Friday at 8PM Eastern Daylight Time, ESPN2 will telecast the Busch Series race from Charlotte live. The program is not followed by another live event, so there is no problem with an over-run of the scheduled off-time of 11PM.
The Busch race will feature Allen Bestwick in the Infield Studio with Brad Daugherty alongside. In the announce booth will be Dr. Jerry Punch, Rusty Wallace, and Andy Petree. Working on pit road will be Dave Burns, Jamie Little, Mike Massaro, and Shannon Spake. Tim Brewer will be in the Tech Center.

Great ending but was I THE ONLY ONE NERVOUS about all the oil and stuff on the track! LOL. Jr sounded honked off but THANKFULLY it went well the last few laps.

We saw all the lead lap cars crossing the line and even a close up of hard racing for a cars behind the leader before cutting to the crew. that is definately progress
During long cautions, it gets tough filling the time without constantly repeating themselves.
That's because they don't have anything to say. Oddly, better broadcasters don't seem to have this problem.
If they're not wrecking, these guys just aren't sure what to talk about.
Too much focus on the 29 / 8 ... No one said why the 9 dropped like a rock after the restart ...
They missed Reutiman going from 6th to 12th too. And they were hyping him big earlier

Oh and this showing video during the end of the race instead of telling us where folks are at is a BAD HABIT..but I hear all sports is doing that junk too "PERSONAL STORIES" during a lull in the sport...sometimes it can kill the buzz of whatever sports one is watching..the thing with the Burtons was from ABC PRIMETIME NASCAR show I think.

Interviews we got interviews after the race. The top five and counting
There were some little things ESPN did wrong throughout the night but overall I was pleased with the job ESPN did.
- No draft tracks all night: A+
- Allen Bestwick in the pit studio: A+
- Pre-race stories coming to fruition (turn 4 being calamity corner, owner's championship battle, risk/reward of Cup drivers racing the Busch Series): A+
- No missed restarts (I think?): A+
- Their last lap coverage was great, showing the 2-47 battle to the line and then cutting back to the more generic wide shot to show the rest of the cars finish.
My only major problem was Rusty Wallace's lack of sensitivity when it comes to the condition of drivers involved in crashes. At California when Keselowski crahed he instantly brought up Dale Sr.'s fatal crash before Brad ever climbed out of the car. Then tonight after the big crash he instantly brought up the risk/reward story. While it was a legitimate point, none of those drivers had climbed out of those cars and we had no idea if any of them were hurt at that point, so he should have held off talking about injuries until the health of those guys was known.
Overall one of ESPN's better efforts this year. Let's hope this carries over to tomorrow night. Unfortunately ESPN's probably not going to learn from tonight's solid effort and continue to shove Suzy and Brent down our throats and bring back draft tracks and other ESPN promos during green flag racing. ABC will probably miss a restart or two, and then if it rains a little bit might even bail out on us again like they did at Kansas.
Attention ESPN, your Busch race coverage is a lot better than your Cup race coverage. Learn something from that and make some changes!
how did mike Wallace finish 15th with 199 laps when the 16th place finisher completed 200 laps? is this a NASCAR.com leaderboard problem?
Overall, tonights broadcast was a solid, ESPN-type broadcast. Rusty is still Rusty, Jerry is still Jerry, and the pit reporters are still what they are. Tonight's big issue was the "delay" the crew happens to on compared to the race. We are watching it in real-time, but the announcers, director, etc seem to be reacting anywhere from 1-5 min late. Whether it's wrecks, passes, or updates on pit-road issues, ESPN always seem to be behind for whatever reason. It makes it very difficult to watch a race when we see things and get no info from the booth or visual assistance from the production crew as to what is actually happening.
They interviewed Reut too which makes sense since his 12th place kept Carl for clinching the championship. David, dude, don't be so hard on yourself, Jimmie spun out and wrecked himself and others
Overall, B-minus.
But, no kidding, Rusty seems more excited about the possibility of a wreck happening than just about any fan I know. For someone who sat in one of those cars, he sure seems anxious to see them crash.

also, i thought ESPN improved on following wrecks live. rusty reacted before we even saw anything and the cameras caught crashes live.
Nice ending coverage there by ESPN and a good effort overall. Those guys (and women) have got to be exhausted after a long day.
Congratulations to Burton. But going up to the comment up top asking why Busch ratings were down, Burton winning is a perfect example. He's not fighting for points, or a ride next year, or most importantly, a championship. There is absolutely nothing on the line for half of the guys in the field, other than satisfying the requests of sponsors and personal achievement in getting another trophy for the collection.
If the race doesn't mean something in terms of a championship to half the field, there's no point in watching, unless you are a hardcore fan. Casual fans aren't going to get on board. This all-star situation is just not what sports is about, if you know what I mean. The only value in the current situation is for fans who can attend in person and see your favorite Cup driver at a reduced ticket price.
Bowyer and Reutimann are running the full Busch season next year, so one of them will be the champion. It takes the drama out of it.
I like the suggestion near the top to have the Busch Series as a totally different type of racing, such as short track racing.
Reutimann was hard on himself and looked so depressed! he is still second in the points.
I mean, it's nice to own up to making a mistake but the poor guy takes it to heart too much. Relax, David...be nice to yourself.
It's ok! Course, better than drivers that ALWAYS point the blame at others.
I agree, as the night wore on, the coverage improved.
I wonder if somebody at ESPN brewed some fresh coffee or ate some dark chocolate!!

I disagree. Rusty loses all credibility when he says stupid things like the lost axle. If the axle had been missing, the wheel & tire would have been missing too. They are bolted to the end of the axle. The car still had all 4 wheels, even as it was pushed into the garage.
And I found myself yelling at the TV about Mr. "Amarillo".

They said the Axle fell off but the wheels were still on the car? As one of the last posters mentioned, then it wasn't the axle.
Rusty said it was, and I saw a huge cylinder thing fall out of the car *but no close up* so what was that that happened??
I bet Rusty was livid and in this case JUSTIFIABLY when he said that should NOT happen..makes you wonder who's getting fired...but I still want to know, if the axle fell off, doesn't that mean the back of the car would have been dragging?

You can change the axel by pulling the cap and sliding it in or out, no need to remove wheel, these are not really Stock Cars people.
