Live Blogging Monday at LMS
Note: If your Fox local station leaves the NASCAR coverage, please go to our comments section and tell us your city.
Things change in a hurry in TV land, so this Monday is going to feature two TV networks scrambling all day long. SPEED is first with a one hour edition of RaceDay at 11AM ET. This will serve as the pre-race show, since NASCAR starts all rain delayed races as close to the top of the hour as possible.
That means when the NASCAR on Fox gang comes on the air at 12PM, they will be able to say hello and then the cars will hit the track. The full Fox crew returns led by Mike Joy in the announce booth with Darrell Waltrip and Larry McReynolds.
The Hollywood Hotel may or may not be back, but my guess is Chris Myers and Jeff Hammond should be on-board as usual. Myers dropped his comedy act on Sunday and led the TV team through some great discussions of NASCAR topics in the news. It was an eye-opener for those fans who argue that he is most effective in his assigned role as the class clown.
LMS has taken a lot of water and that normally means that the grassy area inside the frontstretch dogleg will be very damaging to the COT cars should they spin into it. We may well see careful racing because NASCAR is obligated to run the full 600 mile distance unless weather shortens the event after halfway.
No doubt there are some tired TV crew members on both the SPEED and Fox teams. Once the race is over, SPEED has some decisions to make. Originally scheduled for 8PM but taped in the early afternoon is This Week in NASCAR. Fox pit reporter Steve Byrnes is the host, with drivers Michael Waltrip and Marcos Ambrose as the panelists this week.
Also on tap is the Victory Lane show where host John Roberts interviews the winning driver and crew chief with Jimmy Spencer and Kenny Wallace. That program was scheduled for 11PM on Sunday and is not TBA in terms of air times. Perhaps, SPEED may be forced to put Victory Lane into the TWIN spot this week and just move on.
Fox is a broadcast TV network, not a cable outfit like SPEED. Most probably, the decision to show cartoons as standby programming during the rain delay and not NASCAR programming was driven by that issue. Some wonderful programs like Behind the Headsets and the SPEED broadcast of the All-Star race would have fit the bill, but the Fox local stations are used to cartoons in that timeslot. As previously mentioned, some West Cost viewers got to watch infomercials for two hours.
Monday is a new day and optimism is high that the race will be run. This post will serve to host your comments on the Fox broadcast of the rain-delayed Coca-Cola 600 and the RaceDay pre-race show. To add your TV-related opinion, just click on the comments button below.
TDP is a family-friendly website, please keep that in mind when posting. Thank you once again for taking the time to drop by.

«Oldest ‹Older 601 – 800 of 913 Newer› Newest»id like to see a full race also, but when your favorite driver is leading, ya wanna see it rain all day!
anon 4:31- or Jeff Burton, Gordon, and Johnson.
Just to set things straight again, TV and radio do not play any role in when a race is delayed or ended.
Certainly, Fox has been involved in pushing the Sunday start times back and that has been an issue.
But, in terms of when a race like this is called, the TV and radio guys are not involved.
JD
Jrs best years, pops was on the box, tony jr was doing sets.
Jr had someone he respected making the calls and dared not challenge it like he does with Tony Jr.
Honestly I loved when Steve Hmeil was calling the shots for Jr....
@karen: just to clarify: i'm not blaming it on the jrs. for me, it seems evident some kind of change is called for and it may be in the shop personnel or, as you note, engineers and/or car chief. but something's way off today and i haven't seen a car this bad under dale for a very long time.
@ken-michigan: understandable that folks want to have a mic in dale's face but i'd just as soon they treat it like any other 40th place team and focus on the teams which produced thru this endless "race."
Sounds like they're going to pull the jet dryers off the track.
reutiman and mw MUST be wishing for rain right now!!
These broadcast guys are grasping at straws for a story now. Long weekend.

Don't knock the southern people, if not for us, there would be no NASCAR. Addington is from South Carolina,so am I.
not in the least! i am endlessly amazed by the deep south accent! all i have is this philly/ny mix that has no round sounds at all! just wish i had a better ear for it, is all.
and dw should NEVER sing on air.
Some old posts as I was getting caught up--
@red--LOL! That's hilarious that someone had the nerve to steal change out of the fountain and then get mad that you wouldn't take it. If you're going to do that, at least dry them off. But of course you can still "feel" the wet for a bit.
@dot--you wouldn't want me to be your roomie, I love Digger too
Brian. Like how the crew guys are holding the 'brellas over him.
Yeah, this has been a looooong day.
gymmmie! say it ain't so! no digger-love from you, please!
Southern accents are cool. Like David Ragan's A LOT!
I Do love Krista's hat, maybe they can all wear them at Dover.
Did Krista borrow one of Berggren's hats?
Doesn't look good from this shot.
uh oh...wonder if they are going to call it since calling dryers off the track.
hope so. I want Reut to win :)
Oh man... reminder of how horrid David's Cup season has been since Daytona. :(
I am kind of getting a 5PM feeling right now...anyone else?
interesting debate about reading into the jet dryers, is Joy being optimistic, or following the Myers/FOX line? DW speaking the truth? is it over?
PRN talking about programming conflicts if it goes past 7pmET, just caught the end of that, not sure, also PRN reporting the rain is letting up
JD works for me, I can live with JJ in 13th if Reut wins
I heard a loud cheer as Mike talked it back to chris???
5 pm might be the threshold to bump to SPEED but I feel they will give it up to an 8 pm resume time so maybe 5, 5:30 if it is still raining or looks like it will keep coming before its dried. They've been able to get the track dried very fast today fortunately.
Speaking of JJ (and since we're again waiting), doesn't the new cut make him look like Billy Mays? My brother and I think so.

Agreed. Any idea what ESPN2 is planning to do if the race is not called by the time Bestwick's roundtable starts at 5 p.m.?
It always scares me during situations like this when the hotel takes over, because it always seems like chris is the bearer of bad news (as in the one who FOX lets make the annoucment)
Mike, yes, Berggren gave Krista the hat yesterday. Kinda cool.
How about TWiN? The entire show is still at the track.
I give the fans that came back to the track today a lot of credit. To be rained on at least 5 times, find a place to camp out overnight, and the constant stop and go feel of this race. I would sure be cranky if I was there.
I wish some of the drivers would venture over to the grandstand and sign a few autographs for the diehards that still remain through all of this. I feel like I've been through a lot on the couch today, I can't imagine how these fans must feel!
Isn't it weird how Fox puts a wall between reality and TV viewers?
SPEED just tells it straight and so does Bestwick. You just get the feeling Myers and Hammond are not really being upfront with us.
Especially after yesterday.
reminds me of fontana last year
Speaking of fans at the track, the ones that slept in their cars may be wanting to head home, I would not want to bale until it's called but I'm sure my other half would have dragged me home by now
Dryers pulled off to refuel the jets
I think most probably SPEED will put Victory Lane at 8PM for this week and call it a wash. No pun intended.
Going along with the JD on this one....like we saw Saturday night....another 10 minutes (4:58) some sort of game-changing announcement will be made....either the race is called, or it gets moved to SPEED.
Meanwhile PRN goes off the air until 5:15.
Lisa, it surely does. I was just thinking that.
from pockrass on twitter: "It's raining around the track, and from the urgency in race director's voice, they won't wait all that long"
Is Nascar Now on in 12 minutes or will there be poker reruns?
PRN off the air until 5:15pm EST, so it looks like no 5pm call, JD, though I was just about to predict you were right
PRN is going off the air until 5:15.
Joey so silly :)
Oh, you like Joey?
I want to be optimistic but I have a bad feeling about this...
Yes, I like Joey.
hey, goofy Chris is back. I miss the other one already.
All this POINTS talk drives me crazy.
not a fan of the Chase.
What's next, making chase longer like NBA playoffs. Don't watch those but I hear NBA talk year round it seems.
24 Hours of Charlotte.
Yep.
@red--yup I love Digger...I want to get the plush toys to add to my collection :)
The guys at NN are all in the studio, so they will probably review the activity to this point and deal with the other issues.
We shall see.
@JD. I was at fontana for that one sitting in turn 4. You could see the water comming up from the cracks. How they didn't call that one sooner, I don't know.
JD,
It is completely amazing how different Nascar Chris is from the Chris that works with Joe Buck on football and playoff baseball
The Hollywood Hotel is doing what it should be doing. Dropping reality on the situation. Hammond brought up great points.
The pitroad people are doing a good job talking to everyone. The booth well yeah the booth. Hat or not Krista always looks good.
UPS commerc again! :)
I am pleased that my wife agrees with me that Digger is a dumb idea, designed specifically to generate revenue for Fox, and an embarrassment to racing in general.
jd said (in part):
"We shall see."
well, some of us, anyway. i'll leave it to the planeteers to get me up to speed later tonight.
Just got home, so if I repeat anything, please forgive.
Jr is in a world of trouble. They said they were still using set ups that worked for them early in '08, but for some reason, it's not working now. They were supposedly told to use set ups from the 24 and 48, but it looks to me that IF they are using new set ups, those aren't working either. So it begs the question, is Jr just a mediocre driver?
I would think if they waited this long it's game on. reports are about 20-30mins more of rain, then clear skies till close to midnight
If Junior is mediocre, then he's become mediocre. He used to win--look back to 2004. He won two Busch championships, too.
LOL at MW about the fans being tired...
what they didn't tell you is that miles, the dover monster, holds a full-sized car in his left hand! it's impressive as all get out.
and that track has done quite a bit to improve and now has a pit stall for every driver in a race.
can't wait for friday: am spending all day at the track and will get to see cars from cup and n'wide on the track and close it off with the trucks. can not wait!
Sophia, I can't agree with you more about points racing. Seems the only driver out there who wants to win is Shrubbie. All the rest are just points racing, going hard enough not to screw up and drop out of the Chase. I hate the Chase, the Top 35 welfare system and the Lucky Dog.
Mikey did NOT make one plug unless I missed it. WOW.
He looks good even in the rain :)
Ugh, hate it that the Dover truck race isn't being shown live.
Hey, that was 2/3rds of TWiN! Just go get Chad!
You should see Myers on the Tennis Channel. He handles the top stars of the sport, who are notoriously difficult, with style and class.
He asks great questions and it is clear that they really enjoy and respect him in that role.
I enjoyed him on ESPN during his interview show and despite what folks say, think he is great in the right role.
JD
Did the rain stop? They haven't told us.

He totally made a plug about the guys who run Aaron's going racing with David
Uhh..Why is Mike Massarro on Nascar Now?

excellent observation!
to the point raised: i don't have the "butt in the seat" experience to make that statement. but men who do say he's still one of the best, certainly not mediocre, and that he is just as passionate about what he does as he's ever been.
i can't figure it out but then again, neither can the men and women in the 88 shop so at least i'm no great company!
pool on espn2 no NN
No Nascar Now pool compitition is on
I was wrong, not poker reruns . . . women's billards reruns
Be fun to hear the TV and NASCAR talk during this break.....
and fox guys? leave reut alone, for heaven's sake! i'm certain he'll be thrilled to talk to you if the race gets called. just leave him alone right now, ok?
i would think that they are going to get back to green. the radar looks relatively clear after this shower
2nd thing - i have been out for a bbq....what happened with reut and smoke?
I hope they stick with it for at least another hour or two. If its still raining or looks bleak, pull the plug. With there being plenty of daylight left, and lights at the track theres no excuse to pull this at 5 or 6 pm.
track drying getting started
Anon 4:58, Yes, Jr used to win, but in the past 3 or 4 seasons, he's really performed poorly. I just think his heart isn't in it anymore. Or else, too many distractions. You don't see guys like Jimmie, Jeff or other contenders off playing around like Jr does, with all his commercials, appearances and to be honest, hard drinking and partying. True champions focus on nothing but winning, but Jr's focus is everywhere else but racing.
I do NOT undestand why they haven't called this race. I've checked the radar & the racing window is very, very small, with storms behind it.
Women's billiards? Don't care for that but if they start showing the 2005 WSOP, I might have to hop over there to see if I can see son.
JD, any truth to the rumor of a 7pm restart on FOX, with a possible speed simulcast if local affiliates start dropping like flies?
You don't see guys like Jimmie, Jeff or other contenders off playing around like Jr does, with all his commercials, appearances and to be honest, hard drinking and partying.
No, they just ride on top of golf carts and get injured doing that.
Haus, tony being Tony. Had a fast car, Reuti was holding folks up after getting in the fence, he raced Tony hard then they discussed it under a red flag and a crew guy for reut decided to get involved and make some off the cuff remarks to Tony which he pretty much brushed off. Its Tony in race mode mostly. or as some call "hypocrite" mode
http://www.weather.com/weather/map/interactive/USNC0149?from=36hr_maps&zoom=8&interactiveMapLayer=radar
I'm glad to see NASCAR hanging in there. It's only 5 PM local and the track has lights so there's still plenty of time to try to finish the race.
As I recall the Big E had a real hard time adjusting to the radial tires and had a lot going on outside driving - e.g., DEI. I believe I saw someone note recently that Ironhead had a longer winless streak in the latter part of his career than Dale, Jr.'s has now.
Jeff Hammond is ready to go home.
wow is FOX putting on the pressure... gonna stay tuned for the 5:15 PRN update, should be interesting, if they are going to call it that'd be the time
Fox is definatly trying to build a case to call the race, saying weather is moving in the wrong direction, everyone is tired, please.
So are the hollywood hotel guys trying to prod NASCAR to end it, lol?
thx david
Maybe if Fox convinces NASCAR frogs are going to fall from the sky, the race would be called.
Hendricks shop is only 2 miles from track, not sure how 4 hours more will hurt their getting to the shop tomorrow and setting up for dovor considering today is a holiday and they probably woould not have been working
If that big cell just misses the track, there is an easy 2 plus hour window maybe more to get this in
anon 5:11- ribbit...
Call to refuel the track dryers.
Nascar can probably have more patience with this race at Charlotte rather than say, Las Vegas or Fontana, and with Dover next week since the tractor trailer trucks don't have too far to go.
Bill H.
This doesnt affect the big teams at all. They have totally separate groups, and cars for Dover. That stuff should be either finished up or just about and all it needs is to be put on the truck and sent to Dover. This may affect a PRISM, TBR or TRG quite a bit but with all those teams located in the area, and PRISM running a car out of MWR today, shouldnt affect those teams that bad either.
Guys at the shop were probably off like you said.
Gee, do the FOX guys want the race to end???
Pathetic.
Hey, I am kind of starting to dig women's billiards. Is that wrong?
r the oakley shirts some of the drivers wear under their fire suits nomex or some kind of cool shirt?

*******
Oh, JD. tsk, tsk
Hammond wants to go home.
And I think I whine too much... nothing compared to the crew.
OMG!!!, JD, JD.....:p
I wanna see that new movie Year One
@darbar with all due respect:
the appearance and commercials have scaled way back for dale since he left dei. you'll notice there's only been new go-daddy and nationwide insurance commercials this year from him. in fact, jimmie's done more new commercials than dale (aside from the championship ones that are obligatory.) and dale's recent commercial shoots generally occur on his own property and don't require long hours and travel, as was the case with dei.
as for hard partying and drinking: again, that may be an outdated version of the man. like all of us: he's grown out of his 20's and into his 30's and has scaled it back. even he says as much.
he is taking his position in the sport seriously, using it to leverage his popularity to earn him money for the rest of his life after racing. hence the whisky river project in charlotte, the real estate company and, of course jrm: all intended to give him income when he climbs out for the last time. he has learned the lesson of some of his heroes and what happened to them when they stopped racing.
short version: he's not the stupid kid he was years ago. that started to change with his dad's death and was, i believe, cemented with the sonoma wreck that drove home the point of his personal vulnerability as a racer.
whatever it is that's slapped the team down is not the responsibility of one person or one team relationship. and the team and organization needs to keep working on it.
I hope we get this underway again. The fans at the track have spent way to much time and probably money to call it this early. The "hollywood hotel" wants to go home so they want to call the race. Guess what your paid to be there, while fans pay to be there, why don't we get Chris out there to use his hot air to dry the track quicker?
Fox ought to be embarrassed that their on-air staff is giving the impression they want to go home.
True or not, perception counts, and it doesn't look professional.
Makes me wonder, where do hammond, waltrip, meyers, joy and mcreynolds call home? do they have things they need to do tomorrow and want to get "on the road"?
JD said... Is that wrong?
I'd think there was something wrong with you if you didn't like it. You're a dude, dude.
These FOX guys campaigning for the race to end are killing this NASCAR fans racing buzz....
Larry Mac is local to Charlotte, DW is in KY, dont know about Joy or Hammond
Red to be honest I think Dale needs to kick out his buddies and find a wife/ steady reliable girlfriend. I think he may do most of his partying at home, have you seen the new cribs?
I wonder if the redhead is single? Wonder how a women's billiard's blog would do?
Gerta Hofstatter....hhmm....
The solution to having anchors who are saying they want to go home would be to run filler programming, why not show the final segment of the All-Star race?
jd, if the black widow is playing then i can't blame you for watching, she has a look to her, plus some good outfits...
back to what i asked a few hours ago, how long will nascar wait, it is one of their biggest races of the year.
i can't believe as many people came into the pits
Are they going to televise NN after the race is over? I didn't hear what was going on.
I think they ought to go the entire 400 laps. Isn't that why they installed the lights?
Steve L.
I believe Joy is from NH. I bet Jeff H is from KY or TN. Meyers is probably from CA.
It's not just the Fox guys
kylepettyIn PRN booth. Raining, don't let anyone fool you. I say David wins, the fat lady is close to singing...Coca-Cola 600 one for the books
Awesome Bill!
Officials just said it is lightening up - they are getting ahead of it and turn 2 looks good
i am NOT making this up:
AP reports that red bull has been pulled in germany b/c of traces elements of . . . wait for it! . . .
cocaine (!) found in some cans.
maybe that's mayfield newest explanation: "i drink red bull. alot. all the time. really. i'm drinking one now and i had one or two right before the sample was requested."
wonder if scott speed and brian vickers are the next to be tested!
hey! there's awesome bill: gotta love rain delays!
they really should show something, like the beginning parts of the race today. i remember that during the 03 daytona 500
Jeff H is already talking "He HAD a chance to win".
Weak. really weak.
This race reminds me of the other 600 mile race NASCAR attempted. Back in '69 they tried to run the Yankee 600 at Michigan. Anyone remember that one? I was there, rain delayed the start several hours. Twice the race was red flagged for rain it ended being called for darkness after 330 miles. During one of the delays they had a helicopter hovering up and down the backstretch to help dry the track. On one of his trips as he turned around. He hit a wrecker with the tail rotor and crash landed right in front of where I was parked. They didn't try for 600 miles after that at MIS.
Frank in Sebring,
Jeff Hammond has a farm/lots of land north of Charlotte and that is where he calls home.
Aggravating or not, THANKS to NASCAR and Fox for hanging in there.
Marcos is still smiling, what a guy.
dryers back on the track
Dick Bergren got to interview Bill Elliott, who he remembers as the winner of the Winston Million.
We kid because we care
Well, we made it an hour ago. How do you guys stand watching this live every week? I have been able to see some of the commericals you talk about...glad I normally miss them :-) I have to say TDP really helps...feels like you are hanging out with a bunch of friends which makes it a lot easier.
I think NASCAR is in a tough spot. If they cancel it early, people complain didn't give it chance. Especially since it is at "home" and the track has lights.
On the flip side...this is definitely painful to watch. What more can you say at this point. But, I bet they know if they go back to regular programming with updates, they'll lose a lot of viewers.
Dot...it's Marcos....yeah!
I wonder how many non-fans here locally are angry they're missing the news.
PRN is reporting the jet dryers have been fired up.
OK, JD, I see. Kim's about to fall out of her clothes.
I just got a New Hamphsire Motor Speedway commercial in Richmond territory, was that a misplaced local commercial or did that go national?
anon: had that new hampshire commercial here outside philly. caught my attention b/c i didn't know nascar was the "biggest sporting event in new england."
I think they should keep trying until at least 7pm track time. it looks like there is this one last cell which will then open up the rest of the evening... Even if Fox wants to show other programing I'm ok with it. BUT they NEED to stick it out for another 1.5 hours.
Thunderstorm warning up for Orange Co FL... race still on though.
DW is dying for Ruit to win! How un-professional...
Gotta give Reut a lot of credit for not speaking poorly of Tony when he had the chance. In fact, he said he loved the guy.
@West Coast Diane--The blog and the TDP Comedy Tour helps! When I have a TV again if it weren't for the blog I wouldn't watch racing live...I'd watch it how I watched everything off the DVR on my own time!
I think the Coca Cola 600 is not miles but hours :sigh:
it went national
Anon 5:29,
I got it in Atlanta, so I'm assuming it was a national commercial.
jd found the race that they shortened the distance kansas sept 2007, shortened it to lap 210 due to darkness.
Don't know what happened, only hit send once?
Frank in Sebring,
Red, good points, but something is very, very wrong with that team. How long will this go on before Rick steps in? I think the combo of Jr and his cousin isn't working. Jr needs someone on the pit box to kick his butt---someone who commands Jr's respect.
And I do agree, Jr needs to kick the buddies/hangers on and all the ones living on his property for free, and grow up a little more. He does a lot of his partying on is property. And, he is now involved building the Earnhardt Jr mansion, on the spot of his old house. Saw a video on how he ran the bulldozer when wrecking the original house.
@David and Alex--what went national? whatcha talkin' 'bout
Red . . . .
I've actually been to it a few times, including campers and hillsides and grandstands there are 110,000 people there.
The Patriots stadium only holds about 65-70,000 people so the two New Hampshire 300s really are the largest in New England.
Dick just sets it up and lets him talk. Thats how its done!
Just saw Myers on a golf cart.
Gymmie,
The NHIS commercial 10 minutes ago
Amazing restraint to go this long without showing the JJ color scheme video.
I hope Fox realizes how much a pain it was to TIVO this race. I had to record 3 Judge Judy and two each of Cops, Joe Brown and Divorce Court. It's not going to be fun trying to watch.
BTW, these guys sure do want the race to be called. Maybe Humpy can build an indoor superspeedway. Would that honk off Bruton?
Chad is most certainly going to do tv when he retires. he had a knack for it.
Jr needs to find a wife. I know he's looking but his standards are too high. He has said before after a while, the girlfriends want to be the boss. Isn't that the way most couples operate? Let the man think he rules the roost when in actuality, the women do and the men just don't know it.
Plus having Kelley as a sister to compare a future wife to must be tough. Not saying that's the deal, but wouldn't surprise me if it is.
Officials say only littel rain in turn 4, stopped everywhere else
dar
you can set a manual recording for however many hours instead of having to select the various shows...
David said...
Chad is most certainly going to do tv when he retires. he had a knack for it.
---
Next decade when Sean McManus buys back in he can work the booth for Nascar on CBS
@alex - NHIS is now NHMS, since Bruton bought it from the Bahres.
Isn't that the way most couples operate?
No, and who are you to suggest Junior change his standards anyway?
I always suggest this and people think I work for NASCAR when I do, but they just Showed the underfunded Gillilands's CompUSA.com car on TV.
If you want small teams to be able to get sponsors, it helps to at least visit a new sponsor's site when you see it on a car....
If NASCAR fans got together and started doing this perhaps we could show the power of funding a small team.
bozo, I can't do that any more with this super duper DVR. Only thing I don't like about it.
If NASCAR fans got together and started doing this perhaps we could show the power of funding a small team.
Been tried.
Fans cannot afford the kind of money it takes to run even a small team for a season. Just doesn't work.
anon@5:34: i did not know that! astounding.
darbar: something is wrong with this team, to be certain. but the folks who are actually in the shop with the 88 team are confounded as well. if there were an easy (if somewhat psychological) answer, it would have been found and enacted. he's not my brother or friend: he's my driver. i only know of him what he's chosen to put out there. but i don't think he's lost focus or passion. i think he's frustrated and anxious and pressing too hard right now -- as is everyone associated with this team. a change may be needed but mr h needs to make that decision or take it off the table unequivocally.
that being said, as i stated earlier, i believe today may be the tipping point. the car is/was a piece of junk and that needs to be addressed.
chad looks as if he's been borrowing jimmie's rogaine recently. and the names on the car is cool -- altho' done for fans before. nice touch to have it be military personnel. and i didn't even mind that it was actually a commercial!
Reut looks even more stressed then when he had to qualify on time, and that's saying something
oops, Chad spilled the beans.
with reruns on..do they switch it over to speed? Maybe 6:00 will be the switch time
@Alex--ah...yes I saw that one here on the feed I'm getting from CO. My favorite is the Bristol divorce commercial they had back in 2K1/2K2 somewhere around there. I wish they'd bring it back, it never gets old.
Chad's piece has caused the Lowes Racing website to crash!
So, it looks like Victory Lane will be in the TWIN timeslot. That is a total guess on my part, but probably makes sense.
So Chad was told that they could restart the race up to 9:00 pm.
@Anon 5:42 said ... No. and who are you to suggest Junior change his standards anyway?
I'm nobody. Just making an observation. It calmed his father down when he met a strong woman in Teresa.
It's good they showed the compusa.com markings on the 71. They also did a good job showing extended views of TBR's sponsors as well. That's exactly what they need to do. Show everyone's sponsors so there is a perceived value. Not overboard like tilted kilt and the onion but at least just some good photos.
And the booth has jumped the shark and seems to be pushing hard to call the race even though trucks and jetdryers are deployed. You signed up for the race so get over the delays.
wonder if any of the safety vehichles have crashed drying out the track
Know what Fox needs right about now? Buddy Baker telling old war stories. Be the best programming ever for a rain delay.
Did Fox not know about this 9 p.m. target that Chad just brought up with Dr. Bergren?
Seems like someone in the Hollywood Hotel should have reported that hours ago.
I really think Chad was talking about last night that they said that they had til 9pm to start the race, I'm hoping it doesn't take till then. Hearing there is more rain coming that may be the straw
I hear thunder where I'm at... might have to get off here.
Wow first race I've ever been able to have a holiday picnic, 3 hour road trip, and gone shopping during the course of a race.
I must say this (ouch that shot looks ugly), kudos to nascar, for everything the fans have been through to try to give them a show under the lights, but it looks like it's not in the cards :(
with that rain coming, theyll call the race most likely
We're coming upon another top of the hour....might be a chance for them to call it then.
looks like the vehicles are coming off the track
They've asked to bring the jet driers off the track so they can re-fuel them.
Did they pack up the hotel, feel like we've not seen Jeff and Chris in a while . . .
call it already.
it's done!
fans gotta be exhausted!!
Mike Joy really does love his classic cars
if i'm jr. i'tm telling them to find a sub driver..i'm going home
CALL THE RACE.
PLEASE.
i think jd went to supper or to sleep
if i'm jr. i'tm telling them to find a sub driver..i'm going home
If I'm Rick Hendrick, I'm telling you that for what you're paid, you can sit your butt down and wait.
Why do I get the feeling the reluctance to call the race has to do with who's leading? I can't help but think if a more high-profile driver (granted Reutimann drives for Waltrip) was in the lead, that this would've been called by now.
They prolly are giving meyers and hammond red bull to get them back up to speed
I'm trying to see if I can still see the Hollywood Hotel when they show pit road....it is interesting we're not hearing from them.
Kyle P said on PRN that Mikey could have been the inspiration for the Ricky Bobby character.
JD, do you have any idea whether NASCAR keeps an eye on how many fans are leaving the track in deciding whether to call a race?
Chad said they would go to 9 pm. That means they are serious about trying to get this entire distance in.
I dont think it matters at all who is leading
The radar is getting worse. The storm is getting more unpredictable by the hour. Started blowing east to west, then west to east, now from south to north.
It started looking like the this would be a quick storm, but its just hung around..now lots of storm cells are popping up from the south.
I'm hopeful they can get it going again, but I don't know. I'm glad they are giving it a good go and not falling into FOX's pressure to end this (which is so unprofessional).
I have to give NASCAR credit for really trying. The FOX crew has to be exhausted. There is nothing new to cover, and they are still on the air. They deserve their time off after Dover (Larry Mac has a few more weeks on TNT).
