Live Blogging RaceDay and The Gatorade Duels (SPEED - 1PM)
After some practice coverage, SPEED offers NASCAR RaceDay and then the Gatorade Duels. RaceDay starts at 1PM and runs for one hour until the race coverage starts.
There is a new line-up for RaceDay this season with Kyle Petty stepping in for Jimmy Spencer. John Roberts hosts with Kenny Wallace on the panel. Wendy Venturini and Hermie Sadler are the reporters.
Petty has already changed the program with his personality and outspoken presence. Unlike Spencer, Petty has learned to speak his mind without insulting the personalities involved in the sport. Kenny Wallace is still trying to adjust to Petty's presence on the program.
It will be Krista Voda stepping in and taking the place of Chris Myers in the Hollywood Hotel as SPEED hosts the Gatorade Duels at 2PM. Voda has been a steady presence at SPEED for years now and the host role has proven to be her strength.
Mike Joy, Darrell Waltrip and Larry McReynolds will call the racing action. Joy had a great performance on the Shoot Out and should be pumped-up to relate the many storylines of the teams in the Duels. While there are plenty of teams that will not need to race hard, the stories of those who must race their way into the Daytona 500 should make for a solid telecast.
Fox boasts the best pit road crew in the business with Dick Berggren, Matty Yocum and Steve Byrnes. With Voda in the Hollywood Hotel, these three reporters will have to hustle to cover the stories of the two races.
Don't forget that NASCAR.com offers RaceBuddy free of charge for both of the Duels. This online program offers multiple video and audio sources with social media programs like Twitter and Facebook right on the main page. Click here for the direct link to RaceBuddy on NASCAR.com.
This post will serve to host your comments on both RaceDay and the Gatorade Duels. To add your TV and media-related comments, just click on the comments button below. This is a family-friendly website, please keep that in mind when posting. Thanks for stopping by!

«Oldest ‹Older 201 – 279 of 279Compman, we all love you.
Indeed Karen. Ok Sally we made it-
Second that from me! We are eternally grateful to you. Where do I send those cookies?
I'll take the Fords
Junior haw no teammates to help push him in this race.
This will be intense
26 team is here stating they are limiting their laps over Speedweeks to save engine for 500. They only have 1 engine for the weekend so if he parks early, you know why.
Tony Stewart is in this race & him & Jr have been unofficial teammates forever!
Thanks to you all.
Compman loves cookies. I am too big for my desk chair here in the office.
We will stay on his case to make sure he is stopped from bothering you. Incident form has already been sent.
Well I'm back, tried everything but no RaceBuddy video.
And so it goes...
@Compman- can you get RaceBuddy video working for me? :)
Bevo, now you're getting greedy! I'll be happy to settle for him exterminating the vermin!
WOW! JPM looking good!
Anyone think MMcD will S&P in the 500? Surely, MWR will help with pit crew, etc. if MW doesn't make race.
listening to tj majors spot the 88: he is outstanding at it. calm, informative, patient, reassuring all at the same time.
BEVO
you try Opera? Takes a minute to download but if ur puter clashes w ffox, I've used it.
FF updates can cause weird quirks. II turned off adblocker and working for me..I use XP
Did he say 'Bad Brad'? Perfect nick mane for BK! And he didn't have to give it to himself.
@Sally- You're right :)
My brother is a network/IT guy and I was thinking about asking him to look at the problem here and contacting JD. Glad Compman stepped in.
Karen regardless MM will race. PRISM ran 2 races last year the 500 and the 600. They had funding for the 500 and MWR fielded the car for the 600. Regardless what happens the 55 will run all day because of what the prize money is worth. I am thinking actually PRISM wants to run the 66 full time with the 55 being a start and park. I dont know if Blaney will make it today but should he not that would ensure McDowell runs all day Sunday.
Wow, Hornish has a GREAT car!
Interesting that neith Larry mac or DW noticed that Jr. moves his right hand to his left when he turns, and Kasey doesn't.
@Sophia- Yep - Opera, Chrome and in a moment of weakness even IE. Firewall, router reset and other computer. No luck.
Not that big of a deal just makes me curious about the cause now. Can't stand a mystery :)
Penske running three out of four.
So far so good for Jr.
Tony hiding out in the back. Says its good, but engine seems a bit flat. All engine readings are good except water pressure seems a little down.
Doesn't feel like its laying down now though
Changes in sponsors to different cars is weird. Hard to find drivers.
Just finished my extra stuff for work even tho I'm on vacation - trying to help out a bit. These races are pretty good. Hope BK and MK have good races.
@Bevo: If you use SpyWareBlaster make sure that the Flash blocker is turned off.
@sally are you listening to tj on race buddy? pretty interesting. dale not's saying anything but tj's negotiating the pack extremely well.
How 'bout that 17 car!
Red, I decided last year I can only multi task so much. Not trying RB for these short races. I'm pushing myself just to watch the tV and keep up with the blog here!
LOVE RB seeing that 49 spin during break xoxoxox
Boy, Logans sure didn't cut him a break, did he?
@Labbie- Checked it, not enabled. Thanks though, didn't remember it was a setting on SpywareBlaster
Sally, Im with you.
No need for RB today. Got my scanners.
First experience with Race Buddy (I'm at work) - sound is so low I can't hear a thing - second duel race many laps in still not showing live updates - not impressed - wouldn't pay money for this
Besides, with David here giving us the necessary updates, I'm all set! ; - )
pulling fenders on the 88 right front and left rear. that's why the long pit stop.
dale says "we ought to be able to pull fenders without losing spots" lance:"not when you have to beat it put with a hammer, dude."
after some cursing, dale continues "i drove it for 10 laps like that. . . i don't want to go to the rear of this pack!. . . i just effing hate this sh**. i'm not mad at you or anybody. i just hate going to the back. i wanna be up there where they're racing."
lance says not much to race up there for, dale says "except that trophy." lance: "don't want to doubt you man but there's a lot between you and that trophy right now." dale:"you have a back-up, doncha?" "yea, but if we go to the back-up, you start in the back."
heavy sigh then "i'm gonna ride around for a while, everyone on new tires and all."
to lance: "you want me to get closer? i believe i can catch 'em ."
Jr losing draft it seems, not sure if by design or not. Radio is fairly quiet...
Thank you miss red =)
Give a call to Cope hanging up in that pack right now!
If I were JR I wouldn't want to be so close to the other cars as he's starting on the front row.
Well if Jr saw the first race and yesterday he might think he has JJ-type backup equipment. Jr just wants to win SOMETHING sounds like.
@david no problem! dale wants to race to the front, lance wants him to protect the car.
i believe lance is winning this battle.
I should have added Jr will start on the front row and if he wrecks his car and has to go to a backup he'd have to start in the back for the 500 I believe
Wow, I go away to play with RaceBuddy and all heck breaks loose.
@vicky d: absolutely correct! that's what lance was trying to get him to accept when he wanted dale to bring it in.
I'd just as soon Jr. stays out of major trouble!
Can't leave us along for a minute, JD!
jr wants to know who the transfers are...asked twice now..guess he wants to avoid them or know who is really racing..
I think I'd like it if Junior comes home in one piece, forget the trophy!
It's always interesting....for sure.
Never understood the poor kid that just posts 18 all the time. What a waste of time and effort.
@MtnVwJay - There's a volume adjustment on RB if you hover over top right corner of the video portion
@bozo and notice the 88 pulled out of the way of those guys.
Yes, it's pathetic. But compman is our new hero! Should make life easier for you too, JD.
Why can't Larry Mc learn how to pronounce Brad K's name?
Bevo, he still can't say McMurry correctly!
jr. asked if they wanted to practice a green flag stop with 6 to go... mcrgrew said no we need the tires for later
Elliott Sadler is running 4th? I never knew!
Who said this was going to boring? That was great and I really enjoyed RaceBuddy.
Wow. Bobby Labonte unhappy with that car. Needs alot of change before Sunday. Mears was tight tight tight. Disappointed group on that 90 car. Happy for Mikey though.
Bliss too
WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
what a finish and GREAT CAM WORK AT THE END!!
Glad MW is in. xoxo
If the racing today carries over to Sunday, then we are in for a heck of a 500! Two great finishes today.
JD, i love that Hollywood Hotel preview
Mikey has a chance to spin out again on Sunday at Daytona!
A little hit and miss for SPEED today.
Nothing against Chris Myers, but I think you get a lot more out of Hammond when he is working with Krista.
Racebuddy needs to be in ALL RACES!!!!!!!!!!
FABULOUS camera work and we are not held hostage by bumper cams/in car cams at weird momentos :)
I agree. Krista has both the personality and knowledge of the sport. The role fits her well
Thanks to all of you for putting up with the nonsense today.
I really appreciate the help with the problem as well.
Chris is an announcer: That is not the purpose of being in the Hollywood Hotel. The job there is to be a host and to engage your panel/guests with thought provoking questions as well as lead discussion. Krista can do that. Meyers uses to much dated, useless humor to try and reach even a half point. Hammond was giving Mikey a pat on the back dude. Relax.
Oops on the California commercial. Not ol whats-her-name's debut.
And to think it took 271 posts to get there...
Thanks again for putting up with the issues today while I was off playing with RaceBuddy and talking with some computer folks.
Sorry for the hassle. We will return to moderated content and then live blog Saturday and Sunday covering all the Daytona hype.
This should be one wild weekend!!
JD
Was not a fan at all of the decision to completely blow off the live last lap transfer spot battles and wait to show them on replay. Why not split the screen and follow the lead battle in one box and the transfer spot in the other like they did in 2008 so we could see them BOTH live?

Would you mind if I ask what you get out of doing that?
We are all pretty confused about it.
Thanks,
