Live Blogging Sprint Cup Series In Charlotte (5PM - FOX)
The second half of the motorsports doubleheader is next with the Sprint Cup Series racing in Charlotte. This is the last race for the NASCAR on FOX team.
Chris Myers will start the coverage from the Hollywood Hotel. Darrell Waltrip and Jeff Hammond will be alongside. It is a one-hour version of the pre-race show. This has been one of the parts of the FOX coverage that has struggled. So often, the real stories of the race are not told and the hype, promo and sponsor agendas are put before the NASCAR news.
It should be interesting to see what content FOX chooses to include today. There are NASCAR stories like the Gibbs team feud, the Memorial Day festivities involving the military and the FOX agendas of promoting other sports programming.
Mike Joy will end his TV run with this telecast, but Darrell Waltrip will join SPEED's RaceDay show and Larry McReynolds will move to the infield for the TNT races. Waltrip will fill-in for Kyle Petty over the next six events.
FOX has the strongest team of pit reporters. Steve Byrnes, Krista Voda, Dick Berggren and Matt Yocum have been once again underused this season. Instead of being a big part of the overall telecast, Waltrip and McReynolds have again been featured.
If the FOX director begins this telecast with tight shots of one or two cars, the viewers will head for the exits. 600 miles needs a presentation that makes sense for five hours. That is not random shots of cars while the announcers play catch-up.
No one knows what will unfold in Charlotte between potential weather issues, feuding teammates and COT's with aero issues. The role of TV is to tell the stories as they unfold and let the TV viewers experience the race as if they are at the track.
Good luck to all of the NASCAR on FOX team with their final telecast of the season.

the booth is not to excited. Come on guys, just 30 some to go.
It won't protect you in the event of fire, but really only a firesuit will. The thing is, your talking alot of firesuits then if your on pit road between crew guys, officials, tv people, camera people, still photographers, radio reporters, etc....
@JD - PRN says the Biffle crew member seemed dazed but okay; he was animated and giving a thumbs up as he was being loaded into the ambulance.
Anon -- I know the pit dress code was for long pants, but you're right that blue jeans wouldn't help much in a fire. I had a blouse made of polyester (rather than cotton) on one day when we were working on an engine and when the carburetor coughed gas on me, it melted the fabric. Very interesting and just a little unnerving.
Fox seemed to get all the information about the 16 crew member and report it. I think it was in a timely fashion, and they had a full report, seemingly not based on rumor. I think everyone here agrees they have the best in the business when it comes to pit reporters. Could you imagine Byrnes in the booth or in the studio?
Yeah actually I like Steve Byrnes and I think he'd do a good job in the booth. Certainly he'd be a little less biased than DW.
LOL Kyle told his crew guy thanks for his dedication and that he was sorry.
Old Kyle is a little hot under the collar. Hope FOX follows him intead of zooming into the leader.
How about watching the restart from the blimp for 3 laps. wide shot.
18 crew laughing about that, says it is ESPN worthy, if they win anyways...
Steve is great in the booth for SPEED, Hammond is great with him up there. Krista is super in the Hollywood Hotel, as she was for the All-Star race.
Just sayin...
Changer said thanks for getting him on the highlight reel and he was laughing about it
the blimp shots would be a great choice, but i won't hold my breath.
bite your tongue JD...lol.
Noooo! Not Hammond in the booth! That's as bad as DW. Plus his ego wouldn't fit in there.
Yeah, JD. I just think that it's time to shake up the Fox Cup group. Its gotten very stale. As you said, Byrnes and Hammond work well together and they don't have seem to have an agenda.
Steve might even let Mike Joy call the race.
@Vince - Hammond on SPEED is a totally different animal than Hammond on FOX. He and Myers both seem to play characters on FOX's coverage, which is rather unfortunate.
Geez, just listening to DW and Larry talking about this race being like last weekend makes me want to puke.
Somebody call the darn racing action.
it finally makes sense, we all know DW loves KB because he's a toyota sellout... which explains why the brakes on his mouth don't work...
do you think they are told not to show to many cars at once because that is to many moving parts for us.
43 got massive sideways, they said nothing and cut away.
Anon - you are so right.
Anon 10:23 - LMAO.
Wow, what a surprise - they are showing some of the racing.
be still my heart.
Fox would be smart to steal Ricky Craven from ESPN and put him in the booth with Joy
oops, I spoke too soon. back to 2 cars.
Guess there's no close racing going on anywhere on the track?
C'mon, Jamie.
the wave around rule is a joke created to make stastics look better.....but sssshhhhhh us fans aint smart nuf to now dis
When this is done, jump back to the main page. We want a recap of how you think FOX has done this season for NASCAR fans.
46 ran all night, good to see
Vortex scheme is unbeaten. 4:08 runtime
BYE-BYE FOX!!!!!!!!!
Listening to WT Extra with Robin Miller..just turned on FOX for 4 laps. What's with the LAME WINNER GRAPHIC that's hard to read???????
Bring back the drop down graphic. GOod grief.
Chip Ganassi won again :)
Congrats to Kurt Busch!
So Penske and Ganassi had a draw today. Who'd have thunk it?
Extremely underwhelming effort by Fox
Wow, the race is over before 11 p.m. that's pretty amazing.
Well Jamie almost made it a "double" for Ganassi.
Nice to be here with all of you. Thanks for the site, JD. I enjoyed it
Jeff Burton YELLING at Ky B after race :-D
really?! DW defending Kyle?
pathetic
pretty bad for Burton to get that ticked
The car that deserved the win won the race. The GWC didn't happen due to a "debris caution" to manipulate the finish. Thank you.
Impressive, Burton made this interesting
What a way to end it. Kyle getting the riot act read to him by the Mayor.
as a side note on shurb, where's Spencer when you need him?
so glad to be rid of FOX's "DW and Kyle" Series
DW just goes whichever way the wind is blowing.
Make sure and leave us a comment on the FOX coverage back on the main page before you leave.
This is the final time to comment on the FOX team for 2010.

So does flatulence. >:-)
first FOX angle was late, that 2nd replay told it all.
Burton, good interview spoken like a true racer. You can do whatever you want until you wrong me. Then it's a problem.
Thanks everyone! Moving comments to the wrap-up page.
