It's rainy in Daytona, but the Nationwide Series is scheduled to run shortly after 8PM.
Nicole Briscoe is in the Infield Pit Studio with Dale Jarrett and Brad Daugherty. These three might see some serious on-air time if the weather situation continues.
Supporting the efforts on pit road are Dr. Jerry Punch, Dave Burns, Shannon Spake and Mike Massaro. It will be Allen Bestwick, Jarrett and Andy Petree in the TV booth once things get rolling.
ESPN is looking for a barn burner tonight. Dale Earnhardt Jr. is in the #3 vintage Wrangler car and there are a ton of Sprint Cup Series drivers crossing-over to race.
The network is ready to begin Sprint Cup Series coverage in just a couple of weeks with this entire TV team. This race will be a great dress rehearsal for The Brickyard.

NNS uses tapered spacers - I believe.
Some people just aren't happy unless they just aren't happy.
I just think Jr's never gotten a good grasp of the COT! i still hate the splitter design of that car. I saw 'issues' years ago when I saw the original design.
Front looks like suspension bridge or something.
Not to mention the media pressure/NASCAR blaming him for the bad ratings!? That's harsh imo.
If ANY sport is about ONE GUY (I don't care what the sport is) There are problems with the balance of talent and $spon$sor$ship.
I hope this is a boost Jr needed for rest of CUP year but two different animals, NW & CUP cars

I know this. I was speaking in general. Jeez read what I said. IF you were going to FIX a plate race, you can do it by altering the plate. That is NOT the case that I believe happened tonight. Though, if your spacer had a larger opening, same exact effect as a larger plate. For most intents and purposes the spacer and plate are the same thing as they limit the power.
Jr's car was on par with everyone elses, he won that race. Joey just didn't take the chance to try and win it. Im disappointed in Joey, not calling the fix.

The coverage was better then expected, and we didn't have to listen to Rusty Wallace spout nonsense.

What is? That a fix is possible or that it's being considered for this race? I went to school for this stuff, I had a NASCAR engine builder for Morgan McClure explain what people used to do to the plates before officials put them on the cars themselves. Applying the same logic to a "chosen" car you could give someone a conceivably better car.
that's all I am saying. Not saying it happened tonight because I don't believe it did. Someone said fixes weren't possible and i dispute that single solitary point.
I've got no issue with Jr winning. It's cool, it makes NASCAR look good, it was a promoter's dream, sponsor's dream, etc. Everyone wins. I'm just peeved NASCAR seemingly reneged on their tapered plate size for when Chevy got their new engine in NW and that Joey didn't take the shot and try to win the race even if he would have got drop kicked.
Anyway ESPN can change their mind and put AB in the booth and Nicole on pre-race for cup races?

What may happen is ESPN go to a different TV crew for the NNS races.
Over the last two seasons, ESPN tried to use the same trio for the NNS and Cup races in the TV booth.
It just did not work having those guys call practice, qualifying and then the races for both series.
Hope they break it up and allow each an identity on the air.
The Cup stuff is in stone.

I was at the race & for anybody curious, one of the first phrases from Junior on the radio after the race was:
"We shouldn't have won that race. The 20 had a big run, I thought we were done."
Speaking of scanner listening, after finding out Allen Bestwick would be calling the race, I plugged in ESPN's frequency & followed along throughout the race. Great telecast from what I could hear...AB being able to reference that (I think) Allgaier's spotter had worked with Truex previously was an interesting piece of trivia. Had anyone else been PBP tonight, I probably would've gone with the audio of TNT's practice broadcast or just listened to MRN & the drivers.

JD - Never say never ... Junior's constantly changed the wording of running the # 3 again all week ...
I still feel he should be racing for RCR and not HMS ... This week, he seemed happy when talking about the Nwide car and driving it (even before the end of the race tonight) ... I've never seen him happy or content since he's gone to HMS (even after he won the Bud Shootout in 2008) ...
I have a question: I really liked the Nationwide cars. But I couldn't stop staring at the Dodge... does it really have a concaved/recessed nose or am I just being fooled by really good decals? The other cars seem to have the same nose and decals make them look different, but something about that Dodge made it look very different.
Several of us around here predicted the winner last week just like we did with Jr.'s win after Sr. was killed. The races aren't exactly fixed. Some just have cars with enhanced opportunities to win. Look through NASCAR history and the driver than enhances the NASCAR coffers and/or popularity seem to win a large percentage of them.
