Live Blogging Sprint Cup Series From Dover (ESPN2/ESPN - 12PM ET)

Since the Chase races have moved to ESPN, this is another week where the NASCAR Countdown pre-race show will be on ESPN2 due to NFL programming. Then, the race coverage will remain on ESPN through the end of the event.

Allen Bestwick will host from the Infield Pit Studio with Rusty Wallace and Brad Daugherty alongside. These three will have an interesting hour to fill. The Harvick vs. Hamlin fireworks, the RCR penalties, the Dover race, the 2010 Chase and the race weather all have to be on the agenda. It should be interesting.

Marty Reid has been welcomed to NASCAR with some tough Sprint Cup Series races. These longer events have proven to be a challenge for this veteran motorsports play-by-play announcer. The fast and intense action of Dover with many caution periods and restarts should again be a challenge for Reid.

Dale Jarrett and Andy Petree have been a team on ESPN for several seasons. This year, they are again calling the practice, qualifying and races in both the Nationwide and Sprint Cup Series. We'll see today just how much energy they bring to the table after working both series this weekend.

The regular crew of Jamie Little, Dave Burns, Vince Welch and Dr. Jerry Punch will be on pit road. Punch is by far the best of this bunch. Burns and Welch fly below the radar, but Little still has the habit of pushing things just a little too far.

Dover is one of the toughest tracks to cover for the TV team. Two bridges must be cut out of every single lap by the camera operators and the director. The accidents, often caused by blown tires, happen so fast it's almost pure luck to catch them.

In-car camera views must be quick because passing on this track takes place at the end of the straights and is always tricky. Overhead shots work well to show the two grooves and how tough it is to complete the pass once alongside. In the past, cautions have bred cautions even after a race full of long runs.

This post will serve to host your comments on the ESPN coverage of the Sprint Cup Series race from Dover. To add your TV-related opinion, just click on the comments button below. This is a family-friendly website, please keep that in mind while posting. Thanks for taking the time to stop by.

And now for something completely different let's talk NASCAR promos. There are far too many -- I know what I;m watching -- and they all eat time.

One current one is really good, though. "The 500 degree Fire Suit". Really nice and the Led Zeppelin in the sound bed does not hurt.

The number of posts are down because there is only a handful of us here. Usually there are tons of folks, but the NFL just killed the NASCAR website traffic.

You just wonder how much longer it can go on like this with NASCAR and the TV networks pretending nothing is wrong.

If you want to know how great NASCAR racing is, tune in to hear Chocolate Meyers (head cheerleader) on Sirius tomorrow at 11 am. He will let us know.

I agree some left for the NFL but I think many left simply from disgust and boredom.

This is the only sport I follow & I'm so frustrated with the coverage I could scream! Today, I've done laundry, spent 40 mins on the phone, fed the birds & watched a little of the race. It hurts my heart...

An individual like PammH is who NASCAR has pushed away from the sport.

You are right John only us hardcore fans will watch a race like this. The racing on the track has been terrible since the COT.

Pammm, I've done laundry, raked the patio, flipped the gutters, prayed for rain, and watched about 10 mins of racing while I folded sheets. All with a heavy heart, because I can't come up with a decent excuse to watch the race.

I'm pretty much done until February.

I'm already calling it that the 48 will win this boring race. It would have been fine if it was AJ still leading because is a breath of fresh air.

I'm noticing several posts that seem to imply that the race itself is boring. Please remember that it's all the fault of the broadcast, at least that's always been the consensus on this blog. The races themselves are always awesome.

Commercial break with 10 to go. That sums up just about everything. Wow!!

Really ?

11 laps to go & Commercials ?

Really ?

Proves the commercials are more important to the network.

they should have came back with the winner in victory lane already. Horrible, terrible, nonsense coverage.

Did we seriously just lose 5 of the last 10 laps of the race for a commercial break? Thought we were going to miss the end.

How in the name of everything sacred can ESPN show commercials from 10-5 laps to go. There is the problem. The executives just don't care about the fans.

I am, as well, very uninterested in today's race. My guys aren't doing well; 16, 17 & 00. But the biggest issue is the inability to hear the announcers/pit road crew due to the sound of the engines. Why??? We have tried every setting, etc. It has gotten worse all season. But then again, I don't have to listen to the talking heads! But would like to know what is going on. Not a good day.

About the worst I've seen all year. I've never been more upset about coverage. Horrible.

They don't care abt Nascar period. I can't wait for the sportscenter crew to mock Nascar.

Uhhh...I went to Richmond for both the NW and Cup races and I was engaged in the action on the track, the pit stops, the strategy. Upon returning home I learned that the broadcasts missed a lot. I can draw a conclusion from that.

Donuts right in front of the garage entrance. Talk about In Your Face!

The showed the finish line. The only bright spot all day. After the first 15 minutes of the race, I didn't care who won or anything else about NASCAR.

I've been saying all along that the races are boring, and that ESPN only has crap to work with. But even with that, the coverage stinks. Why ESPN has to have scripted coverage, is beyond me.

If JJ wins another Cup, NASCAR can kiss this sport goodby.

Man the ratings are going to suck for Nascar.

Well, if you guys are heading out make sure to go back to the main page and leave us a wrap up comment on the "Your Turn" post.

They have another 30 minutes of coverage. Will they dump the post-race coverage early?

Burton was the highest finishing non-Johnson in the race.

Ken-Michigan said...

Paul Menard 7th - havent heard him even mentioned.

(maybe i missed it )

That final commercial with ten to go really was the last nail in the coffin. Amazing call with a long post race show looming.

Well, as I leave for the day let me say that the commercials work. During one I went looking around and found ATlanta and New Orleans in overtime. And there I stayed until just a minute ago. Then I went back to the race. Oh. It's over. JJ won. Great. Good. Next!

Clarke -- Out.

Ken - He was in the top 15 for the entire race and in the top 10 for most of the race. He ran ahead of several Chasers all day long.

And he was mentioned once (for about three seconds).
