Live Blogging Trucks in Daytona (SPEED - 7PM)

The familiar feel of the Camping World Truck Series TV package comes back tonight in Daytona. One face is gone, however, and a new one steps in.

Adam Alexander has left the truck TV package to anchor the new SPEED Center show back in Charlotte, NC. It will be Hermie Sadler stepping in to fill his shoes for the entire season. Sadler will also continue his reporter duties on the RaceDay show for the network as well.

Krista Voda kicks off another season as the host of the pre-race show and sometimes a pit road reporter. Voda's style has always meshed well with this series and she has proven her value to NASCAR and SPEED for many years.

Rick Allen will call the race with Phil Parsons. These two have been the core of the TV package in the booth for a long time. Tonight, Darrell Waltrip steps in because younger brother Michael is racing.

Yes, Michael has an in-truck camera and it should be interesting to see how the producer manages the contact between the two Waltrips. These two have been on a self-promotion tour this week and frankly, it's getting to be too much.

Ray Dunlap will be returning to anchor pit road along with Sadler. Watching these two this season should be fun. This is the first opportunity for Sadler to put his personal stamp on something for the entire season. This assignment is quite different than the scripted RaceDay program.

The same producer and director return as well, two guys who strive to produce old school television coverage that focuses on the racing and the drivers instead of fancy TV gizmo's and announcer personalities.

The field is packed with a ton of personalities from Kyle Busch to 18 year-old Johanna Long. No two-by-two drafting in this series. The trucks should put on a good show.

This post will serve to host your comments on the Camping World Truck Series race from Dayton on SPEED. To add your opinion, just click on the comments button below. This is a family-friendly website, please keep that in mind when posting. Thanks for stopping by.

JD,
Will Speed use the Fox graphics all season?

I think it needs to put in perspective. If your window net falls down, what happens? You get black flagged to come down pit road. If you don't have a working radio what happens? You get black flagged and come down pit road. If your spoiler falls down on lap 25 what happens? You get black flagged and come down pit road. Just because it was the lap, doesn't mean you should not have any consequences to 'a racing thing'...

I ssecond that, JD, thanks for your efforts in bringing racebuddy for trucks. Makes a big difference in following the race. One day maybe we'll get it for all the races.

Great interview with Rowdy after game, seems like he might have finally developed maturity

Before I forget, kudos to Speed for one new feature. I liked the inclusion of the number of cautions displayed at the top while under yellow.

Wish tonight's truck group would be running the camera's for the 500. You know it's not going to be as great as tonight.

Sad to see the hatred for Waltrips knows no bounds. Give them their moment for this anniversary date if nothing else.

Good camera work. Hope the use of the blimp is carried over to the next two races.

Sophia, maybe if they hadn't spent the last 10 years exploiting the moment, I might agree.

Anon @ 10:09: Dale Earnhardt was not very happy about Ned's elated call of Dale Jarrett's win, calling it unprofessional. Ned later apologized for it, even though it was not as bad as DW.

Still, I'm happy for Michael Waltrip.

Being that tonight is the anniversary of Dale Earnhardt's Death I want to send my condolences to the Earnhardt family.

Thanks for your blog, JD, and once again, thanks for pushing for TruckBuddy. It was very good. Now, if we just add a lap tracker...

Boy oh Boy....

two words...

Rules Integrity

In golf, if you have more than 14 clubs in your bag, disqualified, you lose.

In basketball, if your foot is on the 3 point line at the buzzer, it doesnt count as a 3 pointer.

NFL...you have to have 2 feet in bounds.

Waltrip wins with half a spoiler ?

Just researched it & you're right Anon. It's been a while since I heard that story.

Wow, what a finish. Not a big Waltrip fan but tonight was nice. #3

@anon 10:26 that's how I've always heard it as well, in the 18 gazillion times I've heard it told, I've NEVER heard anything where Dale was upset with how Mr. Ned called the race. Where did you hear that BS61?

Congratulations to Mikey :) might get VL again a couple of times this weekend and being a Grampa soon :)

P.S. Major KUDOS & Thanks for the guys picking the camera angles from the Truck tonight. TOTALLY made the race enjoyable!

If there was yapping in the booth, it didn't bother me because I was enjoying the magnificent pictures as they flew through the air to our living room. House mate said same & he's no major NASCAR Fan.

(Digression--That out of the way, we both found Krista out of line when she couldn't leave Mikey alone w Macy when he was crying & hugging her. It would've said so much more to just pull back the camera then & scan the crowd and let us have SILENCE for a few seconds.)

Other than that, a terrific broadcast except for all the wrecks. Hope everybody is ok.

And as somebody else mentioned, condolences to the entire Earnhardt family on this anniversary of Dale's passing. We never stop missing our loved ones :(

That's what you get when you BUNCH up the race cars. A few big ones that give people a thrill for a minute then blows the hole race cause there are no more competitive cars left.
They finally achieved getting the Cup cars out of the packs now they want them back again.
NO LUV BUGGIN' at this race track!

I love the trucks and as a fan of both Mikey and Elliott, I couldn't have scripted a better race. Both are put down so much and there they were leading at the end. I also don't have a problem with DW or boogity and I especially don't mind him rooting for his brother at the end. After all, everyone considers the Ned/Dale Jarrett deal to be one of NASCAR's greatest moments and it's repeated regularly. It's not like the relationship is a secret, and the family aspect of NASCAR is one of the things that makes it so special.

I enjoyed RaceBuddy a lot, and Mikey's in-car was much better than what I see on TV during the races because the view changed at appropriate times. I like having some control over what I watch, so switching between Mikey and the mosaic view worked fine. I'd like to see a leaderboard on the screen instead of the chat. It's much easier to follow Facebook, Twitter, or whatever in another window.

To any Waltrip non-haters out there, I was reading Mikey's book in between green flag racing, and am really enjoying it. Actually, some of the things I've learned from the book make me extra happy for Mikey tonight.

I hope you guys realize that Jennifer Jo Cobb was not mad at Kyle Busch at all. She just pulled up next to him under the red flag, nothing else. Remember what announcers say is not always 100 percent factual. They have an agenda as well.

Probably going to be the best race of the weekend. I've not been able wrap my self around that 2 x 2 crap. People just don't seem to grasp how tight the Earnhardt-Waltrip connection was, or don't care. Tainted victories and conspiracies.
As if elbow cams, knee cams, dash cams, Digger cams....etc....etc...weren't enough. Now Fox comes up with Thermal Imaging cams.
This is what what NASCAR has become on television. Gimmicks and contrived controversy.
Sucks to say it, but it is the SOSDD. What the hell happened to NASCAR??

I thought the coverage was good but it could have been much better if DW had been allowed to talk only when he had something new and relevant to say.

I didn't like the race because it was a one groove follow the leader parade. Follow the leader was good when I was in grade school but not today.

Android...Sometimes hard to believe...booth was right...JJC was ticked at Kyle. Heard her over the scanner and per JJC's twitter:

"As 4 Kyle-he blew around me on a caution, swerved real close 2 me and revved his eng. He cut me off n prac the other day & I am just fed up."

Listening to TV audio on scanner. During ads some comments that were interesting.

DW...what's the deal with the ticker. Folks keep twittering me they don't like it.

DW...only folks that will know that are the ones using Truck Buddy. (Sorry didn't catch the issue).

To me Mikey should not have one the race, if he was in a wreck and had a reason for the spoiler to BREAK then it would be different. He was one of the 5 trucks not in a wreck and for the spoiler to break at the bend says to me there was something fishy about it. If you watch the race footage you can clearly see the orange strip on the "bed" of the truck. If his truck would have been legal the race to the finish would have been much closer. I'm not sure Mikey wouldn't have still won, but NASCAR has to start being more consistent with its rulings. Denny broke a rule and lost the race, but its ok if Mikey does it? Now they are in a PR nightmare because if they don't take the win away (they won't) then when someone has their spoiler angle off and win at Talladega they will still have to let them win. They have just opened pandora's box.

Great coverage. Announcing? We dont really need a waltrip in a fox / speed race everytime. Darryl was off many times on his observations. The finish was great too bad half a spoiler was missing to ease up the passing.

Big E passed people should pay respects for that day but the waltrips are just there to capitalize on it.

The classless hating of the Waltrip family here is so sad.
Just watched the race on DVR, and was disappointed SPEED missed the first green pit stop.
The single file racing for the first 2 thirds of the race was mind numbingly boring, but then trucks finally started racing.
And after all these years, Rick doesn't know that these are race trucks, not cars....

I didn't mind Darrell being excited. Having read several things lately about how Michael STILL can't sort out his emotions regarding 2/18/01 (a situation I fully understand), the joy Darrell felt, and Michael's emotions were appropriate and genuine. What bothered me was Krista's Victory Lane interview of Michael. I thought she was a better reporter. Too reminiscent of the old "joke" "Well, Mrs. Lincoln, other than that, how did you like the play?" Michael needed some time to enjoy the moment, process the feelings, etc., before she was in his face asking how it felt to have this win 10 years later. STUPID/unfeeling/unnecessary question. In this particular case, maybe just a quiet camera view for a while, then ASKING Michael if he wanted to talk. If he didn't, do some other interviews and then go back to him.

The coverage today was abysmal.

5:30am 1st person seen waiting to get into garage?

No name, please. But it was an H and there is also a G waiting. No signs of anyone else yet.

As you might imagine, not much to do at a racetrack before dawn....
