Live Blogging Sprint Cup Series From Dover (ESPN - 1PM ET)
It's overcast in Dover and everyone is hoping this is not another fuel mileage race. Dover can be great on TV or just an endless single-file grind. NASCAR needs great right now.
Nicole Briscoe is up first from the Infield Pit Center with Brad Daugherty and Rusty Wallace. Saturday Wallace spoke with Fox Sports reporter Lee Spencer and said he might be forced to end his NNS team due to lack of sponsorship in 2012. It will be interesting to see if the sponsorship woes of the sport is a topic today.
Allen Bestwick, Dale Jarrett and Andy Petree are in the TV booth to call the race. Dr. Jerry Punch, Dave Burns, Vince Welch and Jamie Little are the pit road reporters. Tim Brewer is in the Tech Garage.
Dover is a track where things happen fast. The main challenge for the TV team is to cut around the two bridges that go across the track. There is no infield, so cars coming down the banking hit the wall hard. You may remember debris from a frontstretch crash striking folks on pit road a while back.
It is important to stay ahead of the pack and show more headlights than tailights. Racing into the camera, especially off the turns, makes for great TV pictures at this track.
There are plenty of stories to follow today, including how Denny Hamlin does now that he has declared himself out of the Chase. Favorites picked by the TV pre-race show talent were Carl Edwards and Jimmie Johnson.
This post will serve to host your comments on the ESPN TV coverage of the Sprint Cup Series race from Dover. To add your opinion, just click on the comments button below. Thanks for stopping by.

«Oldest ‹Older 201 – 243 of 243Looking at race buddy I don't see any side by side racing.
Rusty, Rusty, Rusty...
According to Rusty, the lucky dog is really important. I didn't know that.
Did Tony miss the set up or what? 2 laps down, yet they show his pit
Of course the Lucky Dog is important. It is sponsored by Aarons, just like the Non Stop. Product Placement, Product Placement, Product Placement
Rusty might be suspending RWI for a while
It is not all motorsports people here like to watch I have found, but there is a lot of flipping when IndyCars are on at the same time. Were it all motorsports then someone would have mentioned the Petit Le Mans on ABC, but no one has. I just glanced and it is still there. I have no interest in it though
Watched it live yesterday, good race.
The "King" must be having a cash flow problem if he needs to shill for an energy drink.
The energy drink is sponsoring the #43 at Martinsville.
Bestwick is working hard, needs the drivers to work with him now.
Sponship is everywhere no matter what... Heck I was watching some football game out of bordem when racing wasnt on and I saw a sponser make the field all red w there logo... so it is what it is.
if you watch that commercial w The King looks like he has a bottle of beer in his hand when he gets in the car lol.... maybe its the energy drink but it sure looks like a bottle of beer
If RWI shutters, what will Steven do for a ride? Oh right. Roger will put him in the 22. NOT.
Well, since Petty won't even run decals for any beer/liquor company, we know that it's not beer!
John,
That race was live on ESPN3.com yesterday and we talked about it during the NNS race blog.
Lots of action and even a fight in the pits!
Bill, Rusty is trying to get Steve a ride with a Cup organization that fields Nationwide cars. Cautions out, time to go! Should be good.
We need some racing not follow the leader here. Amazed we've had 9 cautions
Lots of action and even a fight in the pits!
I had a breakup problem with ESPN3 and used an alternative source, read your comments about the fight. Missed it but it was a good race, good race track helps. Had this blog open, the road race and watched NNW all at the same time. Hard to keep up with it all.
Gee, now I've gone and done it. I have people talking about a race that is on broadcast TV now but is already over. I, of course, did not know it was already over since though I had the NNS race on yeasterday I did not have the computer on.
All of which brings up the question in my pea brain as to why ABC is showing yesterday's race when they could be showing this one?
Talk about a lack of respect from The House of Mouse toward NASCAR
Kurt/Jimmie battle to the finish? Ought to be good!!
Argh...we missed it!
not to jinx it or anything but . . .
i haven't really been paying close attention: have they mentioned the infamous "self-cleaning track" aspect of dover today?
All of which brings up the question in my pea brain as to why ABC is showing yesterday's race when they could be showing this one?
Every one of their races are delaied this year, a good reason why no one watched their races.
i hate the lucky dog rule applied like it is for the #2. if you are 2 laps down, you should be done.
By raising the volume for the commercials, these guys just make me reach for the mute button that much faster.
misting again at the track, just as the race is heating up
Well, sorry Steven, but you don't have the talent for driving like your relatives.
Too many drivers better than him, and too few rides.
Oh boy! Final laps oughta be good!!
As Marty might say, Jimmie's in a Busch sandwich!
so, i guess we're just ignoring those rain drops on the camera then?
A full screen replay this late in the race? COME ON!
Sure, Red
Jr. did not need to pit
Doesn't matter. Allen on his worst day is still better than Marty on his best.
Did anybody see on twitter where Steve's wallace, a boxer I think, brutally attacked his girlfriend and he had to put the dog down? Girlfriend is ok but needed some stitches.
He was heartsick as the dog was his best friend. Wonder what triggered the dog. Horrible story...but yea, he sure does wreck a lot.
Talked to my 91 yr old mom earlier and she thought the race was boring...we spoked for 35 minutes & all GF racing, boring camera angles & commercials. Yep :)
Bestwick goes for the crew chief vs. driver theme at the close!
Good company boy.
That was dull
well we saw about 14 cross the finish line besides Kurt.
Better than some races for sure..and better than FOX!
SPEED does endings the best.
Thanks John, good race.
Go RAIDERS
Yay! 48 didnt win, and ESPN showed MOST of the cars crossing the line. Good job
Well, at least it was not Weasley, though I expect he will end up being the story along with Smoke going up in smoke.
See Ya'll :)
thanks JD. Until next week!
Thanks JD
Thanks ESPN for the finishing line pix.
Thanks guys, see you in Kansas next week.
I forgot about that. Gone get $.22 off a gallon of gas this Wednesday! Yippie!!
If you are heading out, make sure to leave us a race wrap comment on the new post.
Thanks!
