Live Blogging Bud Shootout on FOX
Unfortunately, it's been a tough week for the NASCAR on FOX team. Chris Myers lost his teenage son in an auto accident in California and has returned to deal with that situation. John Roberts will step-in and host the pre-race show.
Darrell Waltrip will join Roberts and it should be interesting to see how this dynamic works. Waltrip will transition up into the TV booth to join Mike Joy and Larry McReynolds. In the ARCA race late on Saturday afternoon, McReynold's son Brandon ran out of gas coming to the checkered flag and was caught-up in a subsequent accident.
On pit road will be the FOX team of Steve Byrnes, Krista Voda, Matt Yocum and Dick Berggren. All of these four worked shows earlier on SPEED and Byrnes hosted the ninety-minute RaceDay show that aired before the live race coverage.
FOX is going to use this race to show fans that NASCAR has figured out how to break-up the tandem racing. That might not be the case. In fact, the rumor is that the teams have figured out how to tandem race and we may see the same show as last year.
We are starting year six of this blog with a reminder of the key points on FOX. Tight shots that lose the racing, failure to show the cars on the lead lap finish the race and falling into the trap of letting Darrell Waltrip dictate the focus of he coverage. It's a tense start this season after last year ended with some serious anger on the part of the fans.
As always, we start with a clean slate. This is the first show and we give FOX the benefit of the doubt. The same production team behind the scenes is going to be giving us the pictures, but this year there are alternatives. MRN is now streaming online and fans have continually threatened to take a walk if Waltrip dominates.
There have been significant changes behind the scenes at FOX, including the senior management at both FOX Sports and SPEED. This race telecast may be a good example of what NASCAR fans will be seeing from this group for the season. Here we go.

«Oldest ‹Older 201 – 207 of 207Just FYI, we are talking about moving live race blogs to Twitter. Blogspot allows in robo-spam, trolls and there is nothing we can do about it.
None of the other TDP items like daily blogs, news updates or TV schedules will be affected. We will talk more about it this week. Thanks.
I was disappointed that Fox didn't interview the guys that were in that second wreck after they came out of the care center. Pretty good broadcast I guess.
Nothing is wrong with the current package, the drivers are just going to have to learn not to push in the corner, the package didn't cause all the wrecks it was drivers not knowing the limitd
Watched the DVR this morning. I've no comments on stuff I FF'ed through before the green flag.
I still hate pack racing. Too much random chance. I agree with the earlier comment: watch for drivers to hang out at the back making parade laps next week.
JD, my biggest issue with Twitter is the 140-character limit. I also second the comments that it can be hard to follow. However, I recognize that this is your forum to run as you choose.
I totally agree with OSBORNK. I don't post here very often, but as a moderator at another NASCAR forum, I come here every every race to see what others are saying, and to get a pulse on opinions. So maybe I just don't get Twitter, because all I ever see is one way conversations. And if Twitter is so much faster, who do you moderate it to keep the trolls and flamers out?
I guess this is my last comment since I dont twitter....My team in Korea is still working on a TV that automatically mutes whenever a Waltrip speaks. It was everything I fugired was...Waltrip and his HOF this HOF that, Danica adnaseum......tired Digger reruns....Mikey back in his racesuit on the set.....ther acing..ehhh.....Tv.....radio here I come.......TTFN
I am sad that the live blog is going away. Been steadfast in my stance that I will not be making the twitter transition. Just my thoughts on it.
FOX was pretty interesting Saturday night. Not a fan of the side view camera now and as always FOX overused the in-car shots. Basically that was a wash-rinse-repeat performance that I have grown accustomed to. Danica didn't really bother me though. They seemed to make an effort to use her sparingly while still acknowledging she is in Daytona.
Interesting race, my driver Kyle Busch did a heck of a job though. Could not have been more proud of that effort. Jeff Gordon did try to dump him though to run with 5-time. Again, opinion. Thankfully everyone is safe after the fact and we got a good show out of the deal despite FOX's sketchy camera angles and shot selection.
Curious to see how the Duels will go.
Booth seemed to be fine. DW is DW, Joy and Larry could have input a little more but for the mostpart it was solid I felt.
Hammond is interesting from the tech center, probably an under-rated asset still when he isn't bantering with Darrell.
A 2 star broadcast performance during a 4 star race.
