The TNT production on Speed of Cup qualifying was a tremendous breath of fresh air after ESPN's disaster of Nationwide qualifying just hours before.

Simply put, TNT/Speed kept the focus ON THE TRACK. Like the Fox production truck before them, the TNT truck "somehow" accomplished the Herculian task of managing to produce a qualifying show without covering up the cars on the track qualifying with countless full-screen video packages, full-screen interviews, full-screen NASCAR history lessons via pictures, and multiple full-screen displays of the motorsports lineup on the network for the rest of the weekend.

On top of the Speed cameras actually staying focused ON THE TRACK, we got to see everyone's qualifying runs in their entirety with the Tivo style format. A+++ TNT/Speed.

It's quite a shame that ESPN and their "innovative" approach to deciding that on-track action should take a back-seat to fancy graphics and videos won't just leave qualifying and practice sessions to the professionals at Speed Channel. Maybe Santa Claus will bring us that gift this December so we won't have to deal with ESPN's practice/qualifying mess again in 2009.stricklinfan82https://www.blogger.com/profile/01808897974344304657noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2080132098367510832.post-24718928947101854132008-07-04T18:56:00.000-04:002008-07-04T18:56:00.000-04:00what was out of order??Nothing. On Fox Trax & NASCAR.com the drivers had already made their qual. prolly during commercials - rather than not show them at all ala espn they added them in later . I sat and watched it happen a few times 2 commercial break worth before I commented on it. If a car...On the topic of cars being out of order. If a car is not ready to qualify when it is their time then they have 5 minutes to be ready to qualify before NASCAR says no go and doesn't allow them to qualify. In this instance if the 55 wasn't ready then NASCAR allows the next car in line to qualify so people aren't sitting around doing nothing waiting on the car. So yes they were out of order but this is the way qualifying works. It is NOT speed's fault that the cars didn't go in the order on FOXtrax but it is the way qualifying is set up.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2080132098367510832.post-44297550174970415562008-07-04T18:28:00.000-04:002008-07-04T18:28:00.000-04:00I agree Bevo - I got it taping so I can watch it e...I agree Bevo - I got it taping so I can watch it early in morning.
Gonna watch race & trackside (maybe)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2080132098367510832.post-67838202658366346082008-07-04T18:26:00.000-04:002008-07-04T18:26:00.000-04:00I like Speed doing the time-shifting.BTW the first...I like Speed doing the time-shifting.

BTW the first showing of the Prelude follows qualifying. Yeah I ...Another disappointing Go or Go Home show. Yeah I also found it interesting that they bailed on the press conference early to go to Go or Go Home.... and then spent the first several minutes of Go or Go Home having Bob Dillner talk about the Mark Martin announcement. If they wanted to talk about the Martin announcement I'd much rather hear the press conference and not Dillner giving his thoughts about it.

And then at one point John Roberts even said straight up "let's not talk about the pressure of qualifying and have some fun talking to Reed Sorenson about cooking hot dogs". Huh? What's the name of this show again?

Just like I said with NASCAR Now when they ignored the truck series and aired Indycar and Sportscar highlights instead, either rename the show or follow the format that the name implies. Showing non-NASCAR series highlights on a show called "NASCAR Now" is a head-scratcher, as is ignoring the go-or-go-homers not named A.J. Allmendinger and instead focusing on Mark Martin and Reed Sorenson on a show called Go-or-Go-Home.stricklinfan82https://www.blogger.com/profile/01808897974344304657noreply@blogger.com
