Tim Brewer was just explaining wedge and I think he ended by saying "today's race at Kansas". Yikes.
ReplyDeleteYeah...he was supposed to be explaining vision problems with the COT and someone apparently loaded the wrong package...because it was about wedge and Kansas.
ReplyDeleteLittle mistakes like this are so avoidable!
Not sure if Speed interviewed Jacques also, but he said he would go to the back at the beginning of the race in order to show respect for the chase drivers. Smoke had a quick interview by Bestwick and didn't say #$$%($%!. :>)
ReplyDeleteWhen Burton said "get our ship righted"...I heard it in the other room and almost choked on my drink. I thought we had another potty mouth :)
ReplyDeleteIt seems like ABC can't buy a break. Imagine running the wrong Tech Center package on national TV at a critical time. That's a tough one.
ReplyDeleteIf they're going to make that kind of mistake, I'd rather they did it during the prerace, instead of during the race, like the Dover incident.
ReplyDeleteIs it just me or do you all hate seeing the booth crew wearing their suits? Way too formal for me. Lose the suits and ties guys. It makes you look uptight even before the race starts!
ReplyDeleteisn't that what the fox crew does also? its a network broadcast.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if all these "Human Errors" are being done by the same human. Maybe they should be fired? And di ABC even acknowledge they showed the wrong techcenter video?
ReplyDeleteThey have always worn suits, as long as I can remember. Its not a big deal. Doesn't effect the broadcast any. We see them once and its at the begining of the event.
ReplyDeleteVince,
ReplyDeleteJackets and ties are standard network gear. Fox goes more 'serious' than ESPN with their jackets, especially since Mike, Larry, and Darrell usually choose different colors than traditional network-grade navy blue. (There are plenty of black, tan, brown, and other colors -- Darrell's cream colored jackets, worn on warmer days, is a great example.)
Larry once admitted his daughter Brooke picks out his clothing for the race, and she has chosen fancier suits for him.
They look like sponsor's representatives but Fox has the best outfits because they let their crew (and sometimes their clothiers) choose different colours that look nice in warm weather.
Rusty said 'Tell-a-dega'
ReplyDeleteDale Jr. is the in-race reporter. Wasn't there problems that last time Dale Jr. did this?
ReplyDeleteThey need to forget about that blimp view from above. It's too high up to tell us anything.
ReplyDeleteI guess Tony declined to be the "in car reporter" today!
ReplyDeleteMikey is up front! Anyone else having problems loading NASCAR.com Live leader board?
ReplyDeleteI hope they don't use those in-car cameras much today. Seems like they stay on them too long. If used just for short views it would be okay but I'm sitting here saying 'okay, change to the action on the track!'.
ReplyDeleteWow...this is an incredible development. Team drafting by manufacturer.
ReplyDeleteWhat is this? we come back from commercial at the end of pit stops?
ReplyDeleteActually it was at the begining of pit stops. Some cars didnt take tires so they got off fast. They could have just not shown pit stops at all.
ReplyDeleteI don't like this new NASCAR.com live leader board. It does not have a "pop-up" when a caution comes out.
ReplyDeleteDr. Jerry said Jr. gained 8 spots due to "pit strategy", but never explained what that strategy was. Two tires maybe??
ReplyDeleteSo far, so good. A very solid race broadcast by ABC.
ReplyDeleteThe live leaderboard is the same they used yesterday for qualifying and it kept jumping and changing the drivers and I could never keep track who was on top. The page seems so "busy" too.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a freakin' conga line.... Lordy, Lordy... hope we don't have 4 hours of this..... "Let's go racin' boys!"
ReplyDeleteRusty just said "Tail Back" for the end of the field. WTH! I didn't know we were watching football!
ReplyDeletewhat is Ford doing they are at the back again. The few chevy and dodge's are exceptions that happened because of how they pitted under caution.
ReplyDeleteHas ESPN said why robby went to the back?
ReplyDeleteGood time for the sportscenter minute. With everyone single file, no real racing going on
ReplyDeleteRobbys not one of the 12 so we'll prob never know
ReplyDeleteI just love to see when Jr. takes the lead and the grandstands erupt. Missed that b/c of commercial. Thought for sure they'd show it for us afterwards. Disappointing.
ReplyDeleteJust what ABC dreaded. No racing and no reason to race. Kind of looks like a big tire test.
ReplyDeleteWell, "tail back" is a term I've heard drivers and crew chiefs use to describe the back of the field. As in, tail end of the longest line and back of the field. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm wondering if Punch is watching the same thing I am. I'm saying,"what?" to my TV a lot. Time for the mute button for a while.
I want to see cars on the track, in the race that's currently running. Too many people talking, as usual.
No racing gives them an excuse to show old wrecks. At least DW etc would find something to talk about related to the current race
ReplyDeletewhy would ABC dread this? isn't testing easier to cover?
ReplyDeleteWow...ABC STINKS with the wrong video at tech center...I am listening to MRN and they are great....They called Jr's lead 195 mph congo line of about 20 cars, LOL.
ReplyDeleteALso I did not appreciate the HUGE GRAPHIC of three drivers over the green racing of Jr Gordon and Jimmie maybe??WTH?
I agree those blimp 'Google shots' are as useless as the ZOOM ZOOM LENS that I also detest. Back to the other room with the MRN radio.
Just wanted to hear what this place was saying :-)
Jr getting the Redskins score! LOL
"tail back" is the British term for bumber to bumber traffic. I guess it fits.
ReplyDeleteSorry Erik, there is no good time for Sport Center during a race.
ReplyDeleteIf this continues it will be a test of the broadcasting crew's ability to inform without boring us to tears or meandering about the countryside. Then we can watch and listen in the final 25 laps when the amps get turned up and they need to do some real play-by-play.... Could be their untimate test.
ReplyDeletebumber?
ReplyDeleteLisa,
ReplyDeleteObviously Jr. disagrees with you. He wants his football scores during the race!
need to find a way to listen to MRN and my drivers in car at the same time. I live in the Boondocks and do not get MRN on the radio. Then I can mute the TV forever ahh heaven
ReplyDeleteWhy not shorten the race to fifty laps? This isnt racing its a parade. If they arent going to race why watch?
ReplyDeleteIs this the COT set up making this race a parade? Man, that google shot from commercial is pitiful. GOODNESS!?
ReplyDeleteCan the cars DO SIDE BY SIDE?
I am getting depressed about COT for next year if a superspeedway is going to be a long single file race. I like side by side.
The language of NASCAR has evolved over decades. It doesn't have to "fit", it just is.
ReplyDeleteLisa, "tail back" is a Rustyism. Never heard anybody say it but him.
ReplyDeleteThe nose-to-tail racing like this happens every year during the middle of the race....and we always have green-flag pit stops.
ReplyDeleteWe've seen great side-by-side racing at the beginning, and I bet soon after halfway it'll begin again. Patience is a virtue!
Erik-
ReplyDeleteJr. and I never disagree. Don't know what you're talking about.
The term used in NASCAR has always been "Shotgun on the Field" ESPN and Crusty try hard to make this football thus the "Tailback" comparison.
ReplyDeleteVince-
ReplyDeleteI have.
We'll agree to disagree. :)
Why is everyone getting mad about the racing? This happens every year at talladega. Everyone wants to be calm at the beginning.

ReplyDeletenice job highlighting to good comment only.
ReplyDeleteErik, how do you have access to these comment?
ReplyDeleteThere is no Tail-Back in auto racing. Doesnt matter what you heard, its incorrect. "The Tail-end of the lead lap" is about as far as it goes for NASCAR. "Tail-End" is not "Tail-Back".
ReplyDeleteErik-
ReplyDeleteShouldn't you be studying for Nascar Now? :)
Anybody heard Rusty say aero yet? And no Draft Tracker yet!
ReplyDeleteJees, boys..... get off the hand signal issue.... 195mph, bumper to bumper... someone slows to 185... guess what happens?
ReplyDeleteanon-
ReplyDeleteAs with Vince, we'll agree to disagree. I have heard tail back and a few other terms. I won't post those because I don't want to be fined! :)
This page is for Talladega comments. Please do not post other information. If you want to post a link or other content, please email editor@thedalyplanet.tv
ReplyDeleteoh no it's full throttle
ReplyDeleteI don't mind the Full Throttle Segment
ReplyDeleteThe fans are being duped. This single file follow the leader parade isnt racing and is an insult to real race fans. I would suggest the ratings will be the lowest of all-time -- and yet they will find a way to skew the numbers. The hype was beyond what could ever be achieved by this taxi-car parade. If you call this racing, you dont know racing.
ReplyDeleteIt sure is a challenge for the entire TV crew, that's for sure.
ReplyDeleteJerry keeps mispronouncing Jacque's last name.

ReplyDeleteIt sure is a challenge for the entire TV crew, that's for sure.
October 7, 2007 3:42 PM
Can you clarify that? It would seem "follow the leader" may not be the most exciting, but wouldn't it be easier for ABC to cover?
Coverage of this type of racing is just a notch above rain delay coverage. Almost as much action going on there as when jet dryers on on the track.
ReplyDeleteIts still early, this race is far from over. Just wait until the last 50 laps.
ReplyDeleteThey have race where I'm at called "Pig n Ford". You make a lap then stop, grab a pig and make a lap with the pig. Perhaps this snooze-fest called Talladega could use a similar format. Anything at this point to hold my interest would be appreciated. You can bet ABC will become so complacent they will miss the big one.
ReplyDeleteI cant really blame anyone for this racing. its the tension of the chase. But the racing will soon pick up.
ReplyDeleteYou guys must not have been around in 2000. This is nothing compared to the 0 lead changes we had at restricter plate tracks then. Give it time, its early. Turn the TV off if your gonna complain about the racing.
ReplyDeleteAnon 3:44PM - Good question. The goal of this type of telecast is to use the excitement of the event itself to keep the viewers entertained.
ReplyDeleteWhen that natural excitement is lacking, its up to the TV crew to step-in and begin to use their own resources to provide a "bridge" to the exciting part. In this case, it could be the last twenty or thirty laps.
This is the time to pull-out the gizmos and dust off Tim Brewer and try to keep the viewers interested.
Why should we have to wait for racing? Thats my point. Why wait for the last fifty laps? Brian France is killing this sport. Just show the money, thats what this is all about now.
ReplyDeleteI'm getting sick of Jerry Punch saying, "3 wide in the turn". He doesn't even know what turn there in.
ReplyDeletePathetic.
Case and point. 3 wide again!
ReplyDeleteBrian France has nothing to do with how the drivers drive. Give me a break. Just run off your TV and stop complaining.
ReplyDeleteThe headlines will read "Snooze Fest"
ReplyDeleteABC should step up and tell NASCAR they'll start picking up live TV coverage past the halfway point. That would get NASCAR's butt in gear to do what is necessary to put on a better show.

ReplyDeleteThere have actually been numerous lead changes. Don't see what race you guys are watching. There is no need ot go 3 and four wide why they aren't even halfway yet.
ReplyDeleteOH NO!!! It's the dreaded Draft Track!!!
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by a blog administrator.
ReplyDeletedraft lock?
ReplyDeleteGhostbusters was on board the #55 car. lol
ReplyDeleteYeah, draft lock happens...and if we get 5 cars in a draft lock, the color turns red and we have Defcon Alpha.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous 4:01 PM
ReplyDeleteCouldnt agree with you more.
Let's try to keep this focused on the TV coverage of ABC Sports.
ReplyDeleteThanks.
"if the race were to end right now" I wih they would stop saying that it's NOT ending now
ReplyDeleteI think I need to go to the doctors for my draft lock.
ReplyDeletegood job stopped draft track and wet to the #1 blowing up
ReplyDeleteYeah, ABC is inventing new terminology, Draft Lock! I wanna SCREAM!
ReplyDelete!#!#%!&*#%!&#*&!^%!*$%^!$%*
ReplyDeletei HAD TO RUN INTO THE COMPUTER..stupid DRAFT TRACKER DURING GREEN RACING and something happens to Truex.
I hope you are happy Rusty and ESPee U. RUIN green flag racing with your @&$^@&$^&$@ toys.
WTH????????????????
The producer/director or WHOMEVER should be fired for bad choices..And STOP INTERVIEWINF folks when there is action going on on the track.
AAAaargh.
I HATE the DRAFT TRACKER!
Hey guys,
ReplyDeleteHave we seen the Draft Lock before on any race this season with ESPN or ABC?
Interesting... Sorensen's and Vicker's cars look identical. WHo the heck is in the control booth today... interns from Podunk Junior College? DIsappointing from a major broadcast comapny that they seem to have, week-in, week-out, so many technical difficulties.
ReplyDeleteWhere is Brent Musburger today? lol
ReplyDeleteJohn. the "Draft Lock" has not been used before.
ReplyDeleteI don't ever remember draft lock before I think it's new
ReplyDeletesophiaz,
ReplyDeleteYou expect for ABC to know ahead of time Truex was going to blow up so they can have the camera fixed on him? They cut right away from their Draft Tracker, when the incident happened. What more do you want?
SophiaZ123. Im sure ESPN planned it that way.........
ReplyDeleteJD.... I thought my hearing was going... I heard "Draft Lock" aslo... never heard it before.
ReplyDeleteJohn, nope I've never heard them use Draft Lock before. Inventing new terminology on the fly? I wonder who came up with it? Sounds like something Rusty would say.
ReplyDeleteRegarding the earlier question about the Live Leader board...I am having problems getting it loaded as well as keeping it running...
ReplyDeleteP.S. Looks an awful lot like Draft Tracker
ReplyDeleteTony Stewart is now on HotPass...I can turn ESPN off!!!
ReplyDeleteAnon 4:20PM - Since the only thing ESPN on ABC was doing this weekend was this single race, Brent did not attend. My understanding is that he will return next week for Charlotte.
ReplyDeleteSPEED did all the practice and qualifying for the NEXTEL Cup at Talladega, and then they had a Truck Series race live on Saturday.
ESPN and ABC returns to practice and qualifying for both NEXTEL Cup and Busch next week.
The camera shot shows a lot of empty seats in the checker-board colored seats, along with other portions of the track. The promise of racing to come is starting to get old, an an excuse to keep watching this non-race.
ReplyDeletemy point was if they were NOT WASTING filling up our screens with DRAFT TRACKER NONSENSE< we would see things happening LIVE on the track.
ReplyDeleteOr show it split screen.
Today's cam action is pathetic...even my room mate is yelling at the tv and we have MRN on most of the time. :-)
Maybe ABC/ESPN thought we'd quit complaining about the Draft Tracker if they added new terminology with the Draft Lock thing. Who ever knows what the heck a Draft Lock is.
ReplyDeleteSophiaZ. Everyone is saying quote "the race is boring". So ESPN has to spice it up.
ReplyDeletePersonally. The racing is exciting. Look at the lead changes. This is a new package and the drivers are feeling it out for the first race.
Sofia... Not a lot cameras can do on a track this big with long greens and cars running in-line. This is a place where I have less of an issue with their fill-in gadgets, as long as they get it right and don't look like this is the first time they have ever used it.
ReplyDeleteI'd be listening to MRN by now, but unfortunately both my local stations chose to broadcast football instead of the race. Sigh..........
ReplyDeleteYeah, ABC should just use a blimp shot so every car can be seen all at once in case something happens to any car. The chance of seeing an incident unfolding before it happens is slim to none.
ReplyDeleteI think the Draft Lock thing is kind of cool. I mean, I've never heard it explained when cars are actually linked up vs. not.
ReplyDeleteErik,
ReplyDeleteI agree. I am missing that perspective on this coverage.
I was dreading the draft track use at Dega. I am pleased at the restraint that has been shown. I may complain about the booth at times. I will admit that I would be very, very bad calling a race. I get too excited and my voice would go up so many octaves that only the hound dogs would be able to hear me. :)
ReplyDeleteNow you can watch the backstretch stands empty as teh red antion goes home!
ReplyDeleteActually, I'm kind of shocked about the number of empty seats in general. I usually attend this race and I don't think there are usually this many unsold.
ReplyDeleteHey John,
ReplyDeleteGood looking site action you have going today. Hope everyone is enjoying the race. Remember "It Aint Cheatin If You Dont Get Caught". Keep up the good work John.

BumpsNotes
Thanks Joe. Hey, did we see what happened to DJ?
ReplyDeleteWOO HOO!!! My MRN affiliate is not airing football today!!
ReplyDeleteMute goes the TV.
DJ blew a tire how? why? have no clue. never said
ReplyDeleteOK... so shouldn't this Draft Lock thing be picking up more than 2 cars when they are running nose to tail, 5 or so deep?
ReplyDeleteLeave it to Junior to tell it like it is...live on national TV.
ReplyDeleteBIG ONE
ReplyDeleteLOL, gotta love JR nad his sarcasm. " Oh really, I don't know what you were watching"
ReplyDeleteI was thinking the same thing, JD... IF it was boring for him at 195 and he is still astute enough to know we are bored... I might just up and join the Jr. Nation!
ReplyDeleteI think maybe I would have waved off this SC minute right now.
ReplyDeleteNeed to get Junior on INC along side Mikey and Ken... Get out of the way Dave..... Now that would be a blast.
ReplyDeletenow would be a perfect time to let us know who's out who's cars are hurt but noooooo a million commercials and sc minute
ReplyDeleteDave Burns certainly does have an interesting way of interviewing upset athletes.
ReplyDeleteSo, did we every see what happened to DJ? And did we every make sure everyone was OK after that big one?
ReplyDeleteOk, Ok, Ok.... UNCLE.... These pit guys are killing me with inane follow-up questions. Terry L provides an answer and gets a follow-up that sounds like no one was paying attention.....
ReplyDeleteJust interview Bobby L for why happened and KB cause he's one of the 12 guess no one else matters. Still haven't hears about DJ
ReplyDeletewah about the big one....took out so many I was rooting for.
ReplyDeleteSTOP INTERVIEWING DRIVERS when something HAPPENS ON THE TRACK!! Kyle still YAPPING and Shrader crashes....dang.
HORRIBLE PRODUCTION
I like Jr but they kept asking HIM more questions..do they want to get him to break into tears??? and the Kyle thing went on WAY TOO @^&#$^@& long.
AAAARGH
I think the SPEED F1 team does a better job with race info, covering races 1/2 way around the world from their studio in NC!!!!
ReplyDeleteDid I miss the update on the 29 car? It was mentioned that it allegedly was on 7 cylinders, and then, nothing?
ReplyDeleteThings are a little bit off-balance and that is what upsets me a bit about Jerry Punch. He is more of a reporter type and does not "call the action" with the type of enthusiasm that MRN or Mike Joy on Fox does.
ReplyDeleteI don't know if he get overwhelmed or what, but there are a lot of loose ends not tied-up right now.
These follow-up problems ie 29, 44 and others has to lie with the production team, the announcers can't be calling the action and do follow-ups on their own. Somebody should be talking in their ears telling them what happened to the cars and then they can let us know.
ReplyDeleteThere we go.
ReplyDeleteI love the fake "Sprint" billboard they're putting on the screen that's located outside turn 3. No matter what camera angle they use, the billboard is facing that camera.
ReplyDeleteThey did not just go to commercial with 29 laps to go.....
ReplyDeleteoh, and I ONLY thought the race was uneventful. not BORING except for a few minutes.
ReplyDeleteEven Jr brought that to EVERYBODY's attention.
I just brought the boombox back to another room and missed if THEY announced what happened to DJ's car...some mess he had.
oh and soon after the Conga line stop, the race pick up major momentum. :-) I LOVE this track
OH Yeah they did!
ReplyDeleteAny bets on whether we get a commercial break with less than 20 to go? Or 10 to go?? I'm bettin these commercials aren't done yet.
ReplyDeleteKyle Petty hit the wall during commercial
ReplyDeletejust missed another crash that's what happens with commercials with less than 30 to go

Man, this really showed when he and the crew followed the 24 saying there was damage, them 30 seconds later Punch says SPOTTERS had said it was the 24, but it was really the 44. They are at the track right?? The 44 was stopped on track with the blown out fender!!
ABC has to pay the bill for the huge rights fees somehow.
ReplyDeleteThey said on MRN that DJ was hit from behind while slowing to avoid the Big One.
ReplyDeleteRemember with ARCA they went to commercial with EIGHT laps to go John.
ReplyDeleteGeez
Thanks for the DJ update...I had to unplug the radio to come to the back of the house.
ReplyDeleteIt's definitely looking like RP racing...Schrader had a soft tire and is mad at himself as it went down suddenly and he hit the wall...he did not have much to say on MRN ..he was running 17
SophiaZ123 said...
ReplyDeleteRemember with ARCA they went to commercial with EIGHT laps to go John.
Geez
Yes, but that was on delay and came back with still 8 laps to go, no missed action.
Punch is such a good guy, sometimes I just feel bad for him. Imagine if a Steve Byrnes or Allen Bestwick was up top and Punch was in the Infield instead of Kolber.
ReplyDeleteThat would be an interesting combination.
No bet, Vince!
ReplyDeleteWith 50-second laps under green, they can somewhat afford to take a commercial break, and only miss 4 laps at the most. I've always felt the commercial spots should be front-loaded so that the green flag racing during the last 10% of a race could be shown without commercials.
ReplyDeletewell Kyle told us what happened to Dale, see Kyle needs to be in the booth and we would have known sooner
ReplyDeleteSomeone needs to tell Rusty and Andy that they are not soft walls. The SAFER barrier does give but it's anything but soft.
ReplyDeleteI think they had to wake Tim Brewer up to do that segment on the door foam.
ReplyDeleteMike Wallace in the 88 is in 6th and we haven't heard a thing about him.
ReplyDeleteDuh! Oh, yea!
ReplyDeleteThanks for reminding my brain about the ARCA race!!
(sophia blushing in a blond moment)
:-)
Kyle Petty clarified the 44 situation by apologizing for hitting Jarrett when all the smoke from the 8 come out. ESPN/ABC needs a better person to hold things together in the booth, like Joy does - I like the Doc, but he's a better reporter than host.
ReplyDeleteGlad to see they showed KPetty coming out of the infield care center - with a hit like that, we need to see that drivers are okay.

Yes, we have. They noted that Yates put him in that car for this race as he's known as a strong plate racer....
Heck Vince.... Theydon't want to be plugging 60 Minutes on CBS.... We've seen how they are when it comes to sharing :)
ReplyDeleteRats! ANOTHER WRECK..Mikey was doing so well,too...sheesh.
ReplyDeleteSadler wrecked...sigh, I am running out of guys to root for except for some OBVIOUS chasers I like.

I meant I never heard the announcers say he was running in the top 10 or mention how good he was doing. It's all been about the Chasers.
Or JR.
Sophiaz you and me both Mikey should still be aboe to ride around like Reut BUMMER
ReplyDeleteIt was lost of fun to watch Mikey and Junior working together liek the old days. They were having fun.
ReplyDeleteMike Wallace! GOOD SAVE
ReplyDeleteMikey Waltrip good attitude in interview. Gosh, he and Jr take their DNF's better than I DO!!
Yes, indeed, it WAS FUN seeing JR and MIKEY work together.
There is just ONE CAR I DO NOT want to see win darn it. SIGH.
*I ain't naming names but I just got bummed out* ;-)
GREAT FINISH.... great energy in the booth.... A real up side to this finish... They HAD to show the top 10.. there wasn't half a .01 seconds between them all....
ReplyDeleteWell, I am glad JJ did not win. Congrats Jeff and I think TS helped.
ReplyDeleteCourse, it is Earnhardt country...Jeffy better watch for the beer cans. I hope the fans are not as rude this year.
EXCITING FINISH! I take back what I said about the COT..but it do need tweaking.
Great comments everyone, thanks again for stopping-by!
ReplyDeleteGreat ending I'm happy but it's almost 6 want to bet they don't interview anyone else but Jeff and Blaney was 3rd
ReplyDeletePlease get rid of the nextel girl why does she always have to get on camera
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed it everyone.
ReplyDeleteThanks, John.
They have to RUSH OFF THE AIR so soon??? That's too bad
ReplyDeleteGood race today. It was fun posting on here.
ReplyDeletegreat fun the blog kept in entertaining when action on the track was less than exciting
ReplyDeleteFrom what i've read/heard. ABC has been recieveing complaints from some local affilates about NASCAR races going long and interuptting local news. Thats one reason they rushed off the air.
ReplyDeleteAll in all, another good job by ABC.
ReplyDeleteSO many drivers down in the Chase points I think it's going to be trouble for anyone down 200 plus points.
ReplyDeleteI just want ESPN/ABC to know that we will NOT switch over to Sportscenter to try to see more interviews (like we're going to see an interview with Blaney who finished third - ha!). We've been tricked too many times.
ReplyDeleteWhen we've switched over to Sportscenter before to get "in-depth" coverage, it was 20-30 minutes of other highlights before they got to (minimal) NASCAR coverage. And now with NFL and the Yankees on verge of elimination tonight? They're not going to give any focus to this race. Nope, not getting fooled again.
We'll wait for the Speed Report and Victory Lane.
Jeff Gordon is supposed to be cohosting Wind Tunnel tonight, too -perfect timing and a great Speed lineup tonight!
Where is post-race coverage? I thought they said ESPN, but not where I live :-(
ReplyDeleteRankings:
ReplyDeleteRace as a whole: D+
Fairly boring until the end.
Finish: A- (Just because Gordo won :( Else I would have given it an A)
Broadcast guys in the booth: D-
They were lost most of the race and where did they come up with that Draft Lock nonsense?
Pit reporters: F
ABC/ESPN's pit work is just plain poor. They don't keep us abreast of what is going on during the pit stops or when someone has problems or drops out.
What the heck?? Where's the post race interviews??
I'm so sick of Jerry Punch, put him on pit road already.
ReplyDeleteMore great post-race coverage.....
NASCAR do us all a favor, and get rid of ESPN/ABC.
awesome finish... To bad they only interviewed the winner... When I heard them over the scanner tell gordon to hurry to victory lane, I knew it was trouble with it being 5 till.
ReplyDeleteOnce again ESPN on ABC blows it and only gets one driver interview in..
After that finish???
MERCY!
Is ANYONE getting post-race interviews? Was I hearing things when they said to tune to ESPN for post-race coverage??
ReplyDeleteAnon
ReplyDeleteThanks for the Bait and Switch tactics by ESPN...I just turned to all three ESP U stations and see nuttin' about NASCAR.
I shall wait for SPEED report to get the days news, then VL and Wind Tunnel.
Thanks for the reminder about Jeff on WT, though I NEVER miss that show!!!
:-)
p.s. Billy, I SECOND your Mercy!!
I gotta go fix dinner and catch the REAL RACING NEWS on SPEED. Pitiful SPEED is not on basic cables for ALL to see. NASCAR FANS deserve better than these quick endings to HOURS of coverage.
Where is the post race driver comments? Freaking ABC/ESPN...they suck. Whoever is in charge should be taken out back and beaten.
ReplyDeleteI officially became an ESPN hater during prerace earlier this morning: they were showing all the wrecks and exciting finishes through the years, but guess who was the play by play announcer through all of them? That's right: JERRY PUNCH!
ReplyDeleteFunny, I don't remember it that way. Somewhere this morning Bob Jenkins threw his Cherrios at the TV when he heard Jerry Punch reading his old transcripts as if it were the one that called the races back then.
I've read here about ESPN defining it's own reality, and now I understand why.
I'm glad the season is almost over, because I can't stand this coverage any longer. It was a boring race, but FOX would pump up the excitement some how. Punch's sailing by comments were the nail in the coffin. This isn't a boat race Punch. "As they go through the turn" was another one, not knowing what turn number it is. Just a terrible job for a play-by-play announcer.
ReplyDeleteTime to fire off another email to ABC and ESPN about the crap post race coverage. NASCAR is committing suicide with this TV package.
ReplyDeleteESPN NEWS had some post race coverage. Jerry Punch said to tune to SportsCenter on ESPN, which is not until 7 ET. I think some of you misunderstood his comments. He did not say "TUNE TO ESPN NOW FOR MORE POST RACE COVERAGE". He said to tune to sports center.

ReplyDeleteHmmmmm. People complaining about Jerry Punch. Were these the same people praising ESPN when they announced he was play-by-play man for ESPN NASCAR. Pathetic.
ReplyDeleteSo, after days of hype about Talladega, over an hour of pre-race programming, and a 500 mile race, we get one hurried interview in VL and then they rush off to air Access Hollywood. Brilliant.
ReplyDeleteSince we are giving grades out to the network. Lets give grades out to this website.

ReplyDeleteSorry dude, my program guide on Charter cable says Sports center is on NOW (6pm) and again at 7pm.
So I expected like everybody else to see Nascar coverage on the 6pm Sports Center immediately after the race and that was the way Punch said it. Like turn to Sports Center and catch the rest of the post race interviews. Quit trying to bail out ABC/ESPN. They just plain SUCK!
