In Progress At Charlotte: Trucks And Cup Cars On SPEED Friday
It will be the Craftsman Trucks that take to the track at 9AM Eastern Time on SPEED for practice. Rick Allen and Phil Parsons will call the on-track action, with veterans Ray Dunlap and Adam Alexander reporting from the garage area.
Immediately after that action, the NASCAR on Fox crew of Mike Joy, Larry McReynolds and Darrell Waltrip will begin to cover the Cup cars on the track. Matt Yocum and Dick Berggren will cover the garages during the two Cup practice sessions.
At 3:30PM the NCTS gang returns for qualifying. The SPEED crew of Parsons, Allen, Dunlap and Alexander will also return for the live telecast.
At 5PM the Cup cars roll-out for two very different qualifying sessions. First, the Sprint Showdown cars will have a normal session of two laps at speed. Then, the All-Star cars come out for three laps at speed with a four tire change done on pit road. This always makes things interesting as teams use different strategies. The Cup cars bring the NASCAR on Fox crew of Joy, Waltrip and McReynolds back to the air. They will call both qualifying sessions.
This post will serve to host your comments about the on-track action on SPEED during the day on Friday. To add your opinion, just click on the COMMENTS button below and follow the directions. The rules for posting are on the right side of the main page. Thank you for taking the time to stop by.
There will be a new post up for The Set-Up and the NCTS race on SPEED at 6:30PM Friday night.
Nice interview w/Terry Cook. So far during the red flag, filler time is ok.
ReplyDeletetruck practice coverage is solid but i have one complaint and it applies equally to n'wide and cup coverage:
ReplyDeletei respectfully ask that the announcers and booth staff refrain from referring to kyle busch by one of his many self-proclaimed nicknames. using the nickname that someone has given a driver is just fine with me. but using the nickname that the driver has given HIMSELF is unprofessional. minor point, to be certain, but i'm weary of hearing it.
as i said: truck practice coverage is ok altho' the gang seems easily diverted . . .
Happy to find your blog and the depth of your knowledge. Delighted Speed is on all day with Track coverage.
ReplyDeleteAs Fox has only a couple more weeks of Sprint coverage would like your take on how the three networks compare in their coverage.
I feel Fox is best, then TNT and ESPN although technically sound their announcers are the weakest...
What do you think?
Ditto red re: nikname.
ReplyDelete*sigh*

ReplyDeleteI agree, Fox hands down has the better booth, and pit reporters.
Last year on ESPN was painful. TNT's only saving grace was Kyle Petty.
This year I think ESPN might give Fox a bit of a run for its money. DJ and Andy will get their sea legs before the cup coverage. But no one will ever be even in the same league as Mike Joy.
I hope someone gives John Roberts a shot in the booth soon. I think he would be good. If he can handle Jimmy Spencer and Kenny Wallace, imagine how he could be with real talent.
Nice save earlier by Patrick but poor Herman :(
ReplyDeleteDon't know if its happening to anyone else but the reception keeps breaking up. Could be something to do with being in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean I guess....
ReplyDeleteMary - My reception is very glitchy/jumpy too. I get SPEED through Dish Network and I'm in MI.
ReplyDeleteOK, so why is everything running so late today?
ReplyDeleteKenny Wallace crashed during Showdown Qualifying and it took 30 minutes to clean the track, so we are way behind

ReplyDeleteRain delay early this morning, at least 2 red flags between the Trucks and Cup, etc., etc., yada yada yada.
Didn't know about the earlier delays. Hmmm wonder what the DVR actually has, to save space I didn't record the trucks guess I should have known better.
ReplyDeleteThanks rick
ReplyDeleteanon 7:12-I'm in the same siuation as yourself (Dish & MI) & Speed is nearly unwatchable!! :( I will be severely disappointed if it's like this Sat.
ReplyDeleteIt has been nice to see the qualifying as it happens...not car - commercial - 2 cars commerical, etc.
ReplyDeleteNot that I mind but why are there no commercials
ReplyDeleteWOW! Terry Cook really knocked down the wall this morning.
ReplyDeleteDoes this mean no Set-Up before the race? Too bad if it does.
ReplyDeletekaren,
ReplyDeleteMike Joy just said The Set-Up and the Truck race was next, I certainly hope so.
JD
Nascar prob needs some time to transition from qualifying to trucks, Set up might be short but it should be something, I hope
ReplyDeleteJD,
ReplyDeleteI forgot I was about 5-6 minutes behind on my DVR.
I watched this morning and then had to leave this afternoon and now am back for the truck race.
ReplyDeleteOne thing that I was pleased with is the fact that the truck speed booth donated $1000 each to the telethon. Michael started it by saying that he would call when Darrell was answering phones and then when he got DW on the phone he said that he would donate $1000 and then Rick said that he would match it and then finally Phil agreed to do the same. Great hearts. Kudos to the Speed Booth.
John,
I have a question for you. I have noticed that when the cameras are going freestyle that when they zoom in it gets real choppy and splotchy every time that they move. Is that a byproduct of HD or just a high resolution camera made for tv? Just wondering, if that makes sense.
Ever since I started reading your blog, I now look at all live tv productions with a more keen eye. I especially watch the news (Fox News) and notice it there as well. When I am not watching racing, I am glued to Fox News and hooked on it. (I love O'Reilly, Hannity and Colmes, and Greta.)
Thanks for your blog.

ReplyDeleteGlad I'm not alone. I'll be pretty upset if this continues tomorrow.

ReplyDeletezud,
ReplyDeleteI invite you to scroll back through the archives this season.
Amy,
There should be no technical problems when HD cameras move. If you are on a dish, it might be good to check it out.
