In-Progress At Fort Worth: Craftsman Trucks On SPEED
The Craftsman Truck Series has a big race under the lights at Texas Motor Speedway tonight on SPEED.
Krista Voda kicks-off the telecast with The Set-Up at 8:30PM Eastern Time. Following that thirty minute show Rick Allen and Phil Parsons will be along to call the Truck action at 9PM. Michael Waltrip will not be present this weekend. Down on pit road as usual will be Ray Dunlap and Adam Alexander.
The Truck Series has been one of the most dependable NASCAR presentations on TV now for several seasons. Fans know what to expect and it has been a positive viewing experience that focuses on the racing and keeps things simple.

Thanks for the info John!!
ReplyDeleteOne of the worst renditions of the National Anthem I've heard this year.
ReplyDeleteFor all the supposed sophistication of Eddie Gossage and the TMS guys, that certainly was a very bad way to present the National Anthem on national TV.
ReplyDeleteAt least the graphic said "local singing sensation" under her picture.
JD
Is it ok to turn the volume up now? I couldn't believe they said she was a local singing sensation! Pretty good pre-race show and this is a always a great race - usually we are there in person though.
ReplyDeletevicky,
ReplyDeleteI bet she slays then down at the Knights of Columbus Hall.
JD
JD - OUCH! My ears are still hurting! The SPEED TV sound seems funny too but maybe it's just our tv. It's very windy here in Houston too hope it doesn't upset the race.
ReplyDeleteWell, I'm glad it wasn't just me that thought that!!! ;)
ReplyDeleteMy cat even woke up and left the room when she started singing.
Is the race too loud and the announcers to low?
ReplyDeleteYep Squid, the sound is way off tonight. Besides the announcers volume being too low, it just sounds tinny, if you know what I mean.
ReplyDeleteI think she blew up the sound transmitter!
ReplyDeleteYeah and the National Anthem singer (local singing sensation)will say it wasn't her singing that was the problem, it was the audio at the track!
ReplyDeleteSo at this point, it's kinda hard to say how they're doing because it sounds like I'm at the race with the pa just barely being heard sometimes. =)
ReplyDeleteTime to head for the consession stand for a racing steak.
These guys are so spaced out tonight it looks like COT racing.
ReplyDeleteWhat Kyle Busch is attempting definitely has to be a storyline. Early on I'm liking the balance the SPEED team is using between covering that (about once every 10 laps to follow his progress) as well as the other racing action that's going on.
ReplyDeletethere is a constant droning noise on the truck race...I have been tuning in and out because of it...I hear this noise on occassion during the Truck races and tonight it is CONSTANT ...I wondered what the part time noise was and tonight it seems constant...and the "Noise" is competing with the announcers.
ReplyDeleteIs NOBODY at SPEED LISTENING to their broadcast?????????????
Shame..I have to keep it muted or watch something else...it's lap 22..hasn't it been there all night? Like a bunch of bad cameras or something has a droning/buzzing noise that's unrelenting.
Sophia, surely SpeedTV is scrambling to fix this audio problem - surely! But the commercials sound perfect - lucky us!
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like they are broadcasting from the Goodyear blimp engine room.
ReplyDeleteSophia,
ReplyDeleteYou are hearing noises huh? Hmmm...
Is it the crawl thingie making this noise? I keep turning the channel because it's annoying me...bummer..then again as JD said, does resemble a COT race.....I was at the grocery and missed the anthem....good thing I guess.
ReplyDeleteThe crawl is gone and SO IS THE NOISE ON MY TV..anybody notice?
Or is it because they are not talking from the booth
If anyone has a free second, flip on MSNBC, I was there during the last commercial.
ReplyDeleteSomeone is stealing from the Monday edition of Nascar Now - a host and three panelists sitting in high chairs
Better than hearing voices in my head JD..
ReplyDelete:-)
see ticker is gone and as they go to commercial DRONING NOISE gone
Crawl is back and so is the noise....
ReplyDeleteSophia, the droning noise is the engine noise from the trucks, without any bass sounds.
ReplyDeleteIn fact, I don't think there are any bass sounds in the broadcast at all.
Heyu Sound Guys, check your levels!!!
If anyone from Speed is reading this please go find the guy running the ticker tonight.Tell him when green flag racing is going on just put the time interval up and leave it up.He can put the stupid stuff on screen during the yellow flag laps.
ReplyDeletethis audio problem is reminiscent of the problem that speed experienced during speed weeks back in February.
ReplyDeletetell him to put some WD 40 on the ticker as it goes through the machine, too.
ReplyDelete:-)
I wonder if the wind blowing isn't causing them to adjust their sound.
ReplyDeleteAt lap 59 the audio is better. Rick & Phil are doing a great broadcast.
ReplyDeleteJust got to 59 - much better
ReplyDeleteI agree about the Anthem...very strange :(
ReplyDeleteWhat happened with the Anthem? Many are talking how strange it was as opposed to just how bad it was
ReplyDelete....was it one of those deals where the singer 'makes up the melody' and makes one note into 15?
I watched the pre-race show for the first time this year - I was extremely impressed. Straight-forward presentation, cleanly produced features, and an actually informative half hour of pre-race!
ReplyDeleteSophia, it was kind of a cross between a funeral dirge and an opera.
ReplyDeleteLong, slow, squeeky-high pitched, and just bad overall.
alex,
ReplyDeleteVoda and company have been rocking that pre-race show for several seasons. That is one reason why I was trying to whisper that she would be a nice replacement for Mr. Myers in the Hollywood Hotel if he decided to take a "vacation."
JD
@alex--yup! That's why folks give it so much praise!
ReplyDelete@rick--yes it was one of the strangest things I've ever heard in my life! I need to have a chat with Mr. Gossage! Maybe I'll send the question into Race Week :)
rick
ReplyDeletelol, love your explanation!!! Glad I missed it.
Glad SPEED got the audio better. I have ADD or something, tonight and been reading IRL stuff online...they race tomorrow night in Texas
For those of you with Sirius, I will be yakking with Dave Ross and Vicki Johnson (perky blonde from NASCAR Nation) tomorrow morning at 9:40 Eastern Time. That is channel 123 and not the full-time NASCAR channel 128.
ReplyDeleteIf you are terribly bored, stop by.
JD
Two timing the Godfather, huh?
ReplyDeleteYIKES! Poor Gary, I hope he'll be OK and that he hasn't torn anything to need surgery or anything :(
ReplyDeleteI still need to get Sirius! I'd love to Mongo out, and thanks to a comic I finally learned whey they had a dog as their mascot :).
ReplyDeleteWOAH! Scott and there goes Rick :(
BUMMER about Crawford...that guy has some tough luck
ReplyDeleteno camera on Rick???ok...there it is...ouch.

ReplyDeletethey only had about 2 commercial breaks during the green flag stints at the beginning of the race...they have put most of the breaks during cautions so it doesn't bother me that much.
ReplyDeleteWhen Vicky calls, one must answer....
ReplyDeleteWhen you think of the Trucks at Mansfield, it almost makes the case that these big tracks are not the place for this series.
ReplyDeleteImagine these guys are Rockingham?

I too would answer her. I remember her. ;)
Maybe an answer to the lack of excitement at Texas would be to shorten the race.
ReplyDeleteTruck racin' is the best with the most enjoyable coverage.
ReplyDeletethese cautions seem to be longer than normal...the previous caution was almost 10 laps and this one is already 7 laps long.
ReplyDeleterick,
ReplyDeleteI'm just glad she has my number.
JD
Rats!#!&#^!&#^!&#
ReplyDeleteScott in the wall...Kylie behind Grandpa
ReplyDeleteman commercial? is there that much debris on de road way?
ReplyDeleteYAY!!!!!!!!!!! Hornaday won....and KB did NOT.
ReplyDeleteWhew doggies....sorry about Speed, Skinners and others problems, though.
Congratulations Grandpa, Rick, Happy, Dee and the entire #33 Camping World Team!
ReplyDeleteI bet this helps Gary feel better :)
I really do not miss Waltrip a lot on these races. Parsons seems to come alive when he is alone with Allen.
ReplyDeleteI love hearing how these older drivers get so excited still......I am about their age and can call them OLDER drivers...pretty cool.
ReplyDeleteOuch...i can't believe Kyle...calling his truck a piece of cr*p?! UNGRATEFUL pupnk.....my word.
I can tell he is hot and tired....but gosh...he always has a smart aleck comment...that must make his team feel good. :(
Can't wait to hear Hornaday.

I second that!
Woo Johnny finishes third.. and oh yea, wipe those tears away Kyle.
ReplyDeleteOverall it was a pretty good broadcast.
JD
ReplyDeleteYou are right about the booth...I am a big MW fan but he can just blather on too much and in a high pitched shrill sometimes...it's like he needs to be in the booth part of the race...kind of like on baseball radio the guys here alternate innings....Even I know a little of Mikey can go a long way....I enjoy him when he is balanced in the booth and not dominating.
Tonights guys werre great.
No Benson on NASCAR Now this Monday, Ricky Craven instead.
ReplyDeleteNice to see a happy driver and happy winner.
ReplyDelete3rd place Johnny B so gracious compared to the second place winner.
Wendy V. will be talking to both Kyle Busch (about his weekend) and Tony Stewart (about Eldora) on Sunday's RaceDay.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by everyone, have a nice night. Nationwide race tomorrow night!
ReplyDeleteGood job tonight! The best part is that Busch DIDN'T win. Congrats to Ron Hornaday for a terrific job.
ReplyDeleteSpeed's coverage was superb, as well. They actually did a drop down finish showing the top twenty/twenty-five finishing spots. I was utterly shocked at this. Only thing 'wrong' was that while Ron was collecting the flag and doing his burnout, they erred by choosing to interview Busch at the same time. Sorry but Busch isn't that important in my book. Give the race winner their just coverage first, then proceed with interviews by runners up.
Anon
ReplyDeleteI TOTALLY agree about the KB interview while Hornaday was celebrating.
ENOUGH....give time to the winners!
I already griped once about Kyle and did not want to go back and add those comments.. so I am glad you addressed it.
Agree J.D.NO JAWS JUNIOR,hope Speed/Fox are listening........
ReplyDeleteI was at the race tonight so I'm just catching the rerun starting now. As far as the anthem goes it was even worse in person - holy cow what a disaster! I'm pretty tapped into the local music scene and I've never heard of her, hopefully I never will again. My guess is she's a relative of someone in the office at TMS, I imagine there's one person added to the unemployment line today :)
ReplyDeleteI missed the end of the race last night and heard KB's interview this morning. Very disappointed with that as most drivers would be happy with a truck that finishes second. Hope his race today goes worse for him. I liked the field summary Speed TV did a good job once they got the audio decent.
ReplyDeletevickyd
ReplyDeleteexactly my point about Kyle...so many would be thrilled to be second and he says THAT?
It's not like he crashed and could not finish....but I did just read he crashed in practice at Pocono and has to go to a back up car. Tonight he is traveling to Nashville. I know he is young but I think it is ego driving him to travel so far this weekend.
And with his ungrateful attitude that was on TV while a very exciting, GRATEFUL and breathless Hornaday was celebrating his win, it's sad SPEED chose to focus on KB.
Ron's CC even said he had never heard him so excited on the radio after winning a race...he was that happy to win at Texas...but instead we did not get to see much of the winner.
Odd...usually we are griping we ONLY see the winner but after nice camera work at the end of a race, it would've been nicer to see a bit more of RH imo.
Very disappointed with that as most drivers would be happy with a truck that finishes second.
ReplyDeleteHis attitude was on display at the Prelude event, too, when he said if the guys couldn't fix his car well enough to run up front (after he wrecked it twice), then why bother? He wanted to move on to the weekend's racing.
Quite the atttitude, but then, he's just believing the hype the TV guys, especiallty DW, have been spouting for weeks.
Not been a good weekend for the technical stuff on Speed, ESPN and TNT.
ReplyDeleteMaybe they should pay those guys better.
