Expect Menard's Move To Dominate Tuesday's "NASCAR Now"
As the dominoes continue to fall, ESPN gets an unexpected hot news story dumped in its lap as Paul Menard is leaving DEI at the end of the season.
As many know, Paul's father is his long-time sponsor and the Menard's sponsorship will be transferring to the new team. That team is Yates Racing.
Once a proud stand-alone company, the new Yates Racing is simply an extension of Roush Fenway in almost every way. Roush provides the engines, the tech support and with Yates now looking to field three cars for 2009, Roush will actually have eight team cars on the track.
Hopefully, NASCAR Now will line-up a good cross-section of on-air personalities to address all the areas of this complex issue. One big question will be the continuation of DEI with only Martin Truex Jr. and one primary sponsor. Long gone are the glory days for that company
Here are some other media links on that story and on some ESPN personalities:

All I can think of is last year and her not letting Jr. have his share of the pie.
ReplyDeleteYep, and the DEI "savior," Truex, was torpedoed by yet another of the well-known DEI equipment failures Sunday.
ReplyDeleteMaybe Tony Stewart was right when he said DEI without Junior would become a museum.
It makes me really wonder when DEI comes up for sale if then Dale, Jr. will have the last laugh and then purchase it outright or have the majority stake in it like he was trying to do last year. Clearly that team was created for him to own and drive one day and it looks like that might be happening sooner than later.
ReplyDeleteWatching it now. They've moved on to Red Bull, Scott Speed, etc. Not sure if the first segment is considered domination of the show, but maybe so.
ReplyDeleteJr would not have been the savior of DEI. Granted he would be the cash cow to bring in the money but his performance would not have been as good as with Hendrick.
ReplyDeleteThe only difference is Hendrick is milking the cash cow rather than DEI.
Bet Truex is kicking himself for signing another tour with DEI.
ReplyDeleteThat was an outstanding show, could not have been packed with more NASCAR news or information.

Good show. An even flow between stories made it easy to follow.
ReplyDelete*snarky remark following* --
Tony hit it dead-on last year -- " a museum."
*end snarky remark*
The whole DEI - Dale, Jr. story last year was a lesson in how lazy and superficial the media, both TV and print, can be. It was almost 6 months after the story of Dale, Jr.'s wanting an equity interest in DEI broke before any reporter got up and made the effort to drive the 50 or so miles from Charlotte, NC to Statesville, NC to read the Big E's will to see what it really said about the ownership of DEI. An ineptly reported story from start to finish. However, I would not underestimate Teresa or Max Siegel.
ReplyDeleteHowever, I would not underestimate Teresa or Max Siegel.
ReplyDeleteSiegel, perhaos.
But Teresa has shown no ability to run or grow an efficient business, preferring instead to simply continue to milk the Big E cash-cow.

ReplyDeleteI will grant you this--it seemed as if most of the NASCAR reporters simply assumed they knew what was in the will.
Facts, however, add a lot to any story.
I should have mentioned that in N.C. a decedent's will is a public record on file with the clerk of court in the county of the decedent's residence.
ReplyDeleteI wonder whether DEI's lack of success is mostly a result of Teresa's reluctance to invest any more money in DEI. DEI did have success the first couple of years after the Big E's passing.
I actually watched the entire show today...best one in a few weeks.
ReplyDeleteBTW I am watching the SOX / Twins pregame on TBS and as they were giving their game schedule for Wednesday they were already saying make sure you know where TNT is because if any of the games go long, we will start the coverage of the next game on TNT...WOW! ESPN take note...they realize that even though they have exclusive rights to the playoffs they still need to deliver a first class product. They are already preparing the fans for potential conflicts tomorrow.

ReplyDeleteI don't think Hendrick is making as
much as he could off of JR. I
believe he gave him a open contract
Rick said on TV he wishes he knew
why JR. isn't running like he should,I can tell him it's called diet and exercise.By the way I'm a JR.fan and like to see him get a championship.
Tks.JD. Ron Il.
I thought it was interesting that the panel did mention the stock market losses and the state of the economy, resulting sponsorship money, etc. Good show.
