Update: "Three Wide Life" Gets A Call From Sprint
Well, this was supposed to be the opening week of "Ms. Sprint" Monica Palumbo working as the new host of Three Wide Life. Unfortunately, Sprint had some other ideas about her wearing two hats for the last nine race weekends of the season.
Needless to say, Palumbo is not going to step into that role. That is a shame for Palumbo, who seemed to be a good choice with her past TV experience.
Stepping into that role shortly will be Brittney Cason, a Charlotte local and an experienced host and writer. That is Ms. Cason, pictured above.
Three Wide Life goes back into production shortly, so we will keep you updated on when the first new episode hits the air.
Thank you for the earlier comments.
I've never seen the show, but hopefully it gets picked up by a major cable channel, it sounds interesting. I was also in the Olympic park that night in 1996, pretty scary and chaotic.
ReplyDeleteBTW: When I saw the title and picture for this article, I assumed that SPEED had a new lifestyle show that featured guys turning double wide trailers into triple wide. Glad to see it has something to do with racing instead.

Don't give anyone there any new programming concepts, please.
It does sound interesting.
ReplyDeleteLOL Alex!
JD,
ReplyDeleteThis is on my Sun Sports channel at 11:00 tonight.
This is so funny... for weeks I have noticed Palumbo standing behind the winning driver. I'll admit, I first noticed her because she is a knockout (even in a fire suit) - but soon I became fascinated by what she does as Ms. Sprint Cup. Every week, she is there, she stands behind the driver and beams a perfect smile. She also nods with each driver answer like she totally agrees, although I'm pretty sure that often with all the celebrating she can't really hear what the driver is saying.
ReplyDeleteI've become so intrigued by the fact that she has to fly around the country to every single race just to stand there for that interview and some photos, that I've actually been waiting for this blog to have one of those wide-open "post any question you want" posts so I could ask you about her.
Could you tell us what she does as Ms. Sprint Cup? Obviously, she does a lot of smiling and posing for photos --- but does she do anything else for all the flying around the country she must do just for her 15 seconds of airtime?
I guess I'm going to be in the minority about this Miss Sprint Cup person. Whenever I've seen her and her counterpart, all I can think of is "Here we go again. Another babe with a very silly, plastic smile plastered on her face, looking like a deer in headlights". Sorry, but I see no function in her job, standing around and nodding her head like the Taco Bell chihuahua. While I realize the history of the sport has always included some kind of sexy babe, I really thought we could get past the whole sexism thing. Yeah, she's not wearing hot pants and a sash, but her purpose in being there is the same. And perusing other Nascar websites, I can tell you there are a lot of people who feel the same way about the Sprint Chicks. Rather the same way people felt about the Speedway Babes they hired to increase ticket sales at California Speedway.
ReplyDeleteAs for the title of the show, I think it sounds stupid. They couldn't have come up with a title that actually tells you the content of the show? DUH?

ReplyDeleteKaren,
ReplyDeleteThat is the final episode with the previous host. Look for the new show this weekend.
JD
barbie,
ReplyDeleteNot so sure where you are going with those comments. There has always been a Miss Winston during those days, and the NEXTEL/Sprint ladies take the same role of product placement.
Instead of red roses and a sash, the current scenario is Victory Lane and TV exposure for the title sponsor.
One problem with a NASCAR show is that you cannot say the word NASCAR and lots of other titles with the word racing are already being used.
In speaking with me, the Leverage Sports folks wanted to make sure fans knew it was NASCAR but also that this show was not race highlights and drivers.
It should be interesting to follow the progress of the program down the stretch.
JD
Yay! I remeber this show...it was called NASCAR Nation or Infield Hot Pass. Haven't these been tried before? Oh yeah, they all got canceled.
ReplyDeleteJD,
ReplyDeleteGuess I should have gotten a clue since the girl's name was not Palumbo. Was that Emily Maynard who I saw last night?
karen,
ReplyDeleteIt was Emily. Since Sprint made their call, it left the show off-balance and they had to re-air an earlier show.
They are now in production with a new host and should have a new show in a week or so. I will keep you updated.
Just like The Humpy Show, there are almost no independent TV shows that look at NASCAR.
It will be interesting to see how this group makes out.
JD
Three Wide Life is not just another NASCAR show. In fact it's not all NASCAR. It is about all auto racing, whether it be NASCAR, IRL, midgets, etc. The show is fantastic, as it covers the behind the scenes of racing, not just the left turns.
ReplyDeleteThat blonde chick was the best host IMHO
