Friday Night Under The Lights on ESPN2
The rain is gone and the racing is about to begin. Friday night brings the NASCAR on ESPN team to the Lowe's Motor Speedway for the Nationwide Series race.
Allen Bestwick and the NASCAR Countdown crew will start the night at 7:30PM. Bestwick will have his regular crew of Brad Daugherty and Rusty Wallace alongside for this thirty minute pre-race show.
At 8PM it will be Dr. Jerry Punch, Dale Jarrett and Andy Petree who will call the Nationwide Series action. Tim Brewer will be along in the Tech Center and Bestwick and company will remain in the Infield Pit Center. Down on pit road will be Jamie Little, Shannon Spake, Dave Burns and Mike Massaro.
There are lots of stories in the Nationwide Series event and several of them cross-over into the Cup Series. Both Kevin Harvick and Carl Edwards will be in the field on Friday night. There will also be the normal storyline of the Nationwide "regulars" led by Brad Keselowski going up against the Cup drivers racing in the event.
This is a fast and tough track for TV. The only pause is on the backstretch and it only lasts a couple of seconds. Talladega, this is not.
This post will serve to host your comments on the Nationwide Series race on ESPN2. To add your TV-related comments, just click on the COMMENTS button below. The rules for posting are located on the right side of the main page. Thanks for taking the time to stop-by.
JD, I just had to comment about the final practice of the cup cars tonight and JP is almost falling asleep. How will he make it through the NW race????
ReplyDeleteJD, we have known for a couple of days that Hamlin decided not the run the Nationwide race tonight. When the car he was supposed to race qualified today, ESPN showed a Denny intro and Dr P (kind of apologizing for the Hamlin intro)explained that Denny was supposed to be in the car, but now Dave Blaney is driving. How could ESPN not have time to change their pre-programmed stuff to be broadcast during qualifying? Just curious whether several days notice is not enough to change up all their pre-programmed pieces or, if not, maybe they just didn't care???
ReplyDeletevicky,
ReplyDeleteAs I said in my column, this is a key moment for several TV personalities. At 8PM, there will be lots of primetime eyes on this group and they all better get up on the wheel and bring it home.
JD
Thank you, ESPN, for actually showing the Happy Hour practice!
ReplyDeleteIt was great to watch the cars and to hear the guys in the booth talk about what was happening on the track.
Keep it up!
Anon 7:29PM,
ReplyDeleteAll of that should have been taken care of well in advance by the Producer of the Nationwide Series for ESPN.
Great comment.
JD
if not, maybe they just didn't care???
ReplyDeleteThere was plenty of "lead time." It was just sloppy producing.
Ok, but how can JP change during this one race. He'd have to drink 10 cups of coffee first!! I'm getting tired of all these sip takes and ESPN interviewing the cup drivers first (so far) however it's only several minutes in so maybe I'm making a mountain of a molehill. I don't give the NW drivers much of a chance tonight either.
ReplyDeleteI do wonder some times if ESPN really does care about NASCAR at all. I still think that NASCAR should find a way to void that contract and go back to either totally TNT or let them share it with FOX like they did several yearsa go because it actually worked.
ReplyDeleteokay, I'm sorry, but showing some inane shot while they're leaving the air & throwing it to Brad so he can say something absolutely pointless-HAS GOT TO STOP!!! It really brings focus to the fact that Brad has no purpose on this channel, except for diveristy. JMO.
ReplyDeleteOld Brad has been working it hard tonight.
ReplyDelete@ Pammh, I agree with you.
ReplyDeletestill haven't seen a starting lineup for the race
ReplyDeleteDid JP just say Mike Bliss was leading the Nationwide regulars in the point standings? What about Brad?
ReplyDeleteIts silly for DJ to talk about Johnson's "commitment" to his sponsor and that's why he is going the extra mile to run this race. Clearly Johnson is contractually obligated to run this race, so quit pretending its something other than a business deal. Why try and turn these guys into Mother Teresa? Its insulting to anyone with a functioning brain.
ReplyDeleteother than the thirty seconds on the kid in the 12 car all other info pretty useless
ReplyDelete@ Nan, he's just following the script.
ReplyDeleteIn-Race Reporter for a Nationwide race is a chaser! Go figure. I wonder who will get any tv time - maybe Joey & Brad.
ReplyDeletegeez....is there any driver other than a start and parker thats not hungry for a win
ReplyDeleteI just noticed the huge antennas on the pit reporters' headsets. They kinda look like space creatures.
ReplyDeleteI believe a clear indication of where NASCAR pecks as far as SpoutsCenter is concerned was shown one night earlier this week when introduction of the new, in-house hockey expert took up more time than coverage of Cup races get the night after the race - and the replacement was no where near as entertaining as Barry Melrose.
ReplyDeleteWasn't that crash on lap 2? JP is a lap behind.
ReplyDeleteat least stremme got a mention (my wife loves him) good thing for her rusty works for espn
ReplyDeleteIs there a reason ESPN never goes through the lineup like the old days? Instead we get an interview with the in-race reporter with information we already know.
ReplyDeleteAnother thing that annoys me is tonight's pace lap pit reports were all about Cup drivers (Vickers (starts 42nd), Blaney (1st start of season), Bowyer, Kahne (starts 33rd)) What about the Nationwide regulars that are running well? There is a reason the field is getting more start & parks, and it is because of the lack of coverage the Nationwide regulars get. Sponsors go for the people that get on, the Cup drivers. (Sorry for the long post)
Well at least DJ is looking out the window
ReplyDeleteYea!!!DJ looking out the window.
ReplyDeleteI could have sworn Jeff Green didn't make the cut for tonight. What did I miss between quals and 8:00 p.m.?
ReplyDelete@ Anon 8:25, just wait until they keep talking about the car Hamlin was supposed to drive tonight. Poor Blaney.
ReplyDeleteOh Boy...this should be fun.
ReplyDeleteWhere did this rain come from? Even the booth is clueless.
ReplyDeleteScramble mode....
ReplyDelete@ Karen, it was Mark Green who dnq'd.
ReplyDeleteMike M, ask Bryan how he's feels?
ReplyDeleteDRAT RAIN!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteSorry for the typo, no 's.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Dot. I'm easily confused obviously.
ReplyDeleteIt should be Allen Bestwick time shortly...
ReplyDelete@ Karen, you're welcome. I looked it up so you wouldn't have too. :)
ReplyDeleteJP the rain is coming from the clouds. I'm glad they are interviewing Bryan Clauson I like that kid. But the story will be where are the chasers running. We could use a field summary, guys.
ReplyDeleteI'm definitely thankful that rain interrupting a Nationwide race is happening on a Friday night race and not on a college football Saturday afternoon. It looks like nothing but re-airs on ESPN2 the rest of the night so I would hope we're okay on the TV side.... if the race finishes tonight anyway. Concluding this race tomorrow morning/afternoon (which I would assume is the backup plan based on past precedence) will definitely be a disaster on the TV side so let's hope it doesn't come to that.
ReplyDeleteI already had to mute the TV & listen the RCN's broadcast over the web. I've had more info from them in 3 mins than I've had from PU in 37 mins...sad.
ReplyDeletepammmmmh,
ReplyDeleteYou mean they did a starting line-up?
JD
stricklin there are lights at charlotte. they could wait it out all night!
ReplyDeleteQuick, follow the script & talk about Vickers again. Does ESPN know that he wasn't the only car that wrecked in qualifying? John Wes Townley and DJ Kennington both crashed, but they aren't Cup drivers and can't fit on the script.
ReplyDeleteI thought they did the starting lineup on the top of the screen like 3 times.
ReplyDeleteAnyone remember when Humpy Wheeler had Bruton Smith throw the switch on the lights for the first time?
ReplyDeleteThat was a good one...
Broadcast guys, attention broadcast guys, have the full time Nationwide drivers gone into the garage????
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by a blog administrator.
ReplyDeleteAnon 8:41PM,
ReplyDeleteWhat the announcers used to do was go through the field and tell viewers a little bit about how and why each car/team was in the position on the grid.
Sorry, I should have made myself clear.
JD
ahhh gottcha on the starting lineup
ReplyDeleteWOW! We got an update on Jeff Green.
ReplyDeleteJD-they even did a run thru the field, can you imagine?? ;) they mentioned rain about 5 mins before TV.
ReplyDeleteanon@8:39,
ReplyDeleteI definitely hope NASCAR uses your line of thinking there if rain decides to come back before halfway. I sure would like to see this race on live TV and I just don't see that happening tomorrow on a college football Saturday.
Anyone know if there was another Montreal moment with all the start-and-parks heading to the garage instead of pit road once the red came out?
JD, I do remember the first time they ran Cup cars under the lights at Charlotte (1992, Winston Open). Hut was 2 laps away from victory that night... and I still haven't forgiven Michael Waltrip for taking it away, LOL. Just kidding Michael :)
13 laps in and we get points standings. Good grief.
ReplyDeleteNational Weather Service radar shows all clear.Lets Hope.
ReplyDeleteHelp in the Draft? Is draft tracker next?
ReplyDeleteJust caught the end of the ticker, lots of cars already off.
ReplyDeleteSomebody is reading the comments....lol.
ReplyDeleteDerrike Cope, Terry Cook and Johnny Chapman have all parked.
ReplyDeleteAm I totally delirious or are they showing racing in the front, the middle of the pack, etc.?
ReplyDeleteJD, I think you're right. Someone must be reading the comments because some Nationwide regulars were on TV and they mentioned who went to the garage!
ReplyDeleteI know we are on the laptops in the Media Center, but it's nice to sneak into the TV compound office trailer! Got to love freelancers!
ReplyDeleteWell I got home just now & read thru the comments here I'll just start watching from here on - as Hubby said, no need to stress ourselves, they won't mention Brad unless they are forced to.
ReplyDeleteHey Jo, there you are.
ReplyDeleteWell if someone is reading this blog, I hope they also have the audio up on the broadcast. Maybe they will realize how boooring the play by play is. Maybe they will also contrast it with the play by play of Rick Allen in the truck races and "see the light." They could also go back and contrast it with AB's calls from yesteryear.
ReplyDeleteHopefully this is the beginning of the improvements for the 2009 season.
haus,
ReplyDeleteAs I said in my column, this is crunch time and there are lots of eyes on this group tonight.
Did you know hot Domino's pizza can be delivered during the race both to fans in the stands and to the TV compound?
LMS is a blast.
JD
Am I hearing things? They're really going thru the field?
ReplyDeleteHi Dot!
ReplyDeleteWait is this e$pn doing a thru the field?!? Whoa, whas up here now????
We have been given more thorough information about what is going on on the track in the first 50 laps of this race than the last 1,000 laps of ESPN's coverage. ---Even covering a lead change during the through the field. WOW!
ReplyDeleteBTW...I had the opportunity to be at LMS last May for all-star weekend...My wife and I really enjoyed ourselves.
Not only a through the field, but a break for the leader change! Excellent!
ReplyDeleteA through the field from 1-20! What an improvement.
ReplyDeleteKick-butt field recap. If only they could go just a little further.
ReplyDeleteAnd the lucky dog with a graphic! Nice...
ReplyDeleteE$PN gave us a thru the field & mentioned Chase Miller for Lucky Dog! WOW what a pleasant surprise.
ReplyDeleteSo who actually is in the lucky dog car, Jason Keller or Jason Miller, doc??
ReplyDeleteWe've seen this before from ESPN, great NW race broadcasst and the same old crap the next day for Cup.
ReplyDeleteThey've got to make it thru tomorrow before I'll be any kind of impressed.
Right now I guess I am at the point of "beggars can't be choosy" regarding the through the field. I will take a consistent 1-20 as opposed to Cup Driver only coverage during the NW race.
ReplyDeleteI hope they are not using themselves up tonight. We need this kind of coverage tomorrow night. Maybe they're getting the hang of it, finally.
ReplyDeleteSolid coverage so far. No pre-taped junk under green, they're looking for racing on the track instead of following a script, and now an Up to Speed on all drivers (not just points contenders). We even got an immediate interview with the only non-points contender that fell out of the race for a reason other than start-and-park disease.
ReplyDeleteAgain though, I'm not going to let tonight get my hopes up for tomorrow. In my opinion the Nationwide broadcasts have been solid for the most part lately. Unfortunately it has never carried over to the Cup broadcasts the next day. I'm certainly hoping this will finally be the weekend when that changes though.
JD,
ReplyDeleteWhy the emphasis on this race in particular or is it from here till the end of the season? Nothing like making us crazy all year just to step it up the last five races?
They mentioned pit road the pit road penalty to Kenny Wallace, Bires problem & Stremme's strategy. Maybe they finally figured it out?
ReplyDelete@ Karen, Ditto from Dot.
ReplyDeleteThey spent nearly 10 laps for that "thru the field" recap.
ReplyDeleteThat was a quarter of the race.
If they are going to spend that much time, please give us a split screen of the leaders or other battles on the track.
I really can't stand the "he said", " he told me", "I spoke to so & so" that we constantly get from these pit reporters.
Spake told us about the potential tire/ vibration troubles on the Leffler car, and then when he finally HAD the trouble, she was never given the chance to follow up on pit road.
If you're going to "tell a story", FINISH IT !!
Karen,
ReplyDeleteEver hear the expression "the heat is on?"
With guys like Ray Evernham, Ricky Craven and Randy LaJoie hanging around, it would probably be a good idea for some folks to have a good race weekend.
I agree w/strick. NW race has been okay ~shrug~ but they fall short on the Cup side EVERY time. I just don't understand..
ReplyDeleteWho's in the 09? JP slipping back to no information. He'll tell us the obvious #/driver, but not the odd wads.
ReplyDeleteken,
ReplyDeleteI am getting you new calculator batteries for Christmas!
By the way, NASCAR Now wrap-up show has been changed to 11:30PM if you are setting a DVR or VCR for Saturday.
ReplyDeleteWhy is DJ doing play-by-play? Doc, wake up!
ReplyDeleteAnon at 9:26 - wait til tomorrow night! Geesh! It seems like he only is asking questions.
ReplyDeleteDJ must be the window monitor tonight.
ReplyDeletecaught the first few laps while on the phone and just got off the phone ...reading through the comments, I have NO HOPE for the cup race.
ReplyDeleteAfter the butcher/hack job of nothing but the BUMPERCAM EXPRESS that ruined Talladega, I will take ANY improvement tonight with a shrug.
If y'all remember, they improved a bit on the middle series last year but still STUNK up the joint on CUP racing.
Bobby H Jr and others big crash.
BUMMER.
I loathe the focus on the CUP drivers.. It can NOT be helping the series. Who wants to sponsor the little guy when they get NO MENTION, no glory?
Bobby getting out and ok...car still on fire under the hood...bad break for Bobby :(
The rain is back, again.
ReplyDeleteGosh I thought the southeast was still in a substantial drought
ReplyDeleteIt might be awhile to get this restarted.
ReplyDelete@ Anon 9:34, there's only a drought when a race isn't scheduled. Someone once said that if you need rain, have a NASCAR race. I forget who. Anybody?
ReplyDeletenot a lot of rain at all on the radar currently.
ReplyDeleteCan we hear from a NW driver, please?
ReplyDelete@dot - No seems like someone has re instituted the dang script Sheesh
ReplyDeleteDot - they interviewed Joey! But I think he might be the only one left in the race now!
ReplyDeleteSo much for NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE radar.
ReplyDeleteSegments already shown on tv. We need to see new stories - maybe about a nationwide driver???? Good interview with Justin Algaier he even looks like Kurt Busch to me.
ReplyDeleteThey should've run the race in Seattle ...
ReplyDeleteOh wait ... We don't have a track because people don't want cash cows like NASCAR in the Pacific Northwest ...
There are some different drivers in the race tonight in different cars than one might see them in ...
Hey, we have Brad K now. That's 3 now.
ReplyDeleteOH yeah ... That 3-shot after they threw the red flag was priceless ... AB and Rusty were talking ... Brad was sitting there staring off into space as if he was trying to remember what was on his grocery list or wondering WHY he was sitting there ...
ReplyDeleteI think someone is trying to prove our point of Brad Daugherty being useless on the broadcasts ...
vicky d said ...
ReplyDeleteGood interview with Justin Algaier he even looks like Kurt Busch to me.
Didn't notice the Kurt lookalike, but he's very well spoken for such a young guy.
Punch's voice inflection is that of a funeral home director.
ReplyDeleteZero excitement for anything lately.
well...they are digging deep in the vault to try and keep us entertained...
ReplyDeleteits not going well.
INTERVIEW KENNY WALLACE!!!!
Clint has a cool car. I still don't like him.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you, David. Herm's always a fun time.
ReplyDeleteto the person that asked...the 09 is John Wes Townley. He drives for Roush in the truck series and is running a limited Nationwide schedule with his ARCA team
ReplyDeleteI went to eat a piece of cake..have they MENTIONED a full time NW driver?
ReplyDelete$^&$^&@^$&@^@
I come back and they are talking to Clint b and now a video on HIM.
And NW wonders why the series is in trouble...um...treating the drivers like their "INVISIBLE" maybe?
Ok, in the middle of CB sentence is a TW commercial...was that just my tv or national?
I think I am going to go watch my last DVD of the "ODD couple" tv show...a fave episode, Felix goes to court and tells folks never to assume because it makes an, well you know.
I am hoping I missed an interview with Bobby H Jr?? or did they even care?
Why is Punch even involved in the rain delay coverage.
ReplyDeleteLet the fancy pit studio handle it.
David-You're right. ESPN has this series all year long, times like this would be perfect to talk to people like Kenny or other regulars that aren't well known instead of pre-taped stuff and interviews with all the drivers we will see tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteGlad to see them talking to Allgaier...wondering if this will be their new "young gun" crush though?
ReplyDeleteDidn't even mention he has a shot to win the ARCA championship this weekend either...
disappointed about that.
Thank you David. It was me. I kept watching the ticker but these old hag eyes have trouble reading it.
ReplyDeleteSophia they had Brad Keselowski talk about how his car was, and some pre recorded Jr on Keselowski.Odd Couple an old fav.
ReplyDeleteOh,I wanted to add, I was trying to get the leaderboard on N.com to see who was who amd where. It's now working.
ReplyDeleteGee interviewing Allgaier...he just won an ARCA race.
ReplyDeleteYes, INTERVIEW KW!!
And how about Bobby Hamilton Jr? Sorry he isn't a chase guy...sigh
This young man is well spoken for a guy on camera..I think I like Justin. Let's not turn him into TOAST though...let the actions and behavior bring the boy up...not the hype. Boy at least they are giving an interview to an ARCA racer. YAY!!
Brad D would be ok as long as I can erase that vision of him giggling over the Dega big one last year....that kind of made me laugh then made me feel creepy at the same time....
Dot. ESPN hasn't mentioned the guy...I just know they have run a few races here and there from being on their website and watching some CTS and ARCA races.
ReplyDeleteIts good experience for the kid but that team isn't ready to compete in NW just yet.
Wonder if we'll get a guy like Leffler for Kenny on? Figure with Rusty being in the booth that you'd get to hear from Kenny...but maybe big bro is still PO'ed about Kenny saying Rusty wanted to come back to Cup...
Did Brad D just call Rusty old? He really looks like a misfit in the studio. I think he asked about 1 question and that is it. Then he said Rusty was 60 and there was some awkward, uncomfortable laughter.
ReplyDeleteJustin Algaier seems like a nice young man. At least they are interviewing a few more drivers than just the chasers tonight.
ReplyDeleteI think David Ragan Likes Coke Zero about as much as I do. Looked like he would gag there as he took a sip
ReplyDelete@ David, I know about JW Townley from the CTS. I just forget what driver is in what car when they run a few times. It's too bad that they don't interview all the up amd coming NW drivers or even the odd wads so we can get to know them.
ReplyDeleteSomeone needs to explain to Kyle the nuances of the military's new digitized camo ... because he thought Jr's paint scheme from Daytona was just "blocks" ...
ReplyDeleteSteve Wallace talks faster than he drives...forgot what his hat said...
ReplyDeleteAt 10:09 David said...
ReplyDeleteGlad to see them talking to Allgaier...wondering if this will be their new "young gun" crush though?
David, that would be a bromance.
They were giving away Coke Zero sodas at a store I was in but there weren't any takers. Hmmm.
ReplyDeletedid bobby jr crash out earlier...i bet he is gone...
ReplyDeleteJustin Allgaier ran the CTS last year ...
ReplyDeleteIt was funny because several times the ticker looked like it said "Alligator" ...
Rain delay would've been great to get Edwards and Harvick together at same time.
ReplyDeleteIf Humpy was there , HE would've got it to happen !!
@ Anon 10:25, alligator is his nickname. His family is close to Ken Schrader if I remember correctly.
ReplyDeleteAnnon:
ReplyDeleteSomeone needs to explain to Kyle the nuances of the military's new digitized camo ... because he thought Jr's paint scheme from Daytona was just "blocks" ...
I know several people and I somewhat agree with them that it looks tacky on a race car...
it doesn't even look like actual camo...
i doubt Kyle cares what it actually is called lol.
Dot said...
ReplyDelete@ Anon 10:25, alligator is his nickname. His family is close to Ken Schrader if I remember correctly.
Yes. He has run races for Kenny in the past and Kenny is a HUGE supporter of him. Said he would be a star 3 or 4 years ago when he was running limited ARCA races
Bromance! LOL...great term.
ReplyDeleteAs far as I am concerned the media hype bromance made sliced bread toast.
Yes, Bobby Jr crashed out. still would've loved to heard from him.
I didn't see Bobby Jr. being interviewed after he came out of the care center unless he got back in the car. Oh yeah, he's not a chaser.
ReplyDelete@ David, thanks for the validation.
ReplyDeleteFor the love of all things human, SOMEBODY TELL ME why a certain guy in the booth, looks so good and handsome on camera, CAN BE WELL SPOKEN and great to listen to...and then during the race. . .
ReplyDelete...."crickets chirping" around his mic?
I am not naming names...just trying to figure the years biggest puzzle out.
Well, that's a lie..the biggest puzzle is why this "Four Letter Network" is allowed to do to NASCAR what would be deemed illegal in most public places....sigh.
When is SPEED on again with NASCAR shows??
If KyB is behind Bliss, the restart could be fun.
ReplyDeletePLEASE do not let the weed lead at halfway if there is another rain issue. :)
ReplyDeleteBLANEY ALERT! Name mentioned on the tv!! and car was shown. cool beans.
The booth sounds tired.
ReplyDelete@ Sophia, Ditto.
ReplyDeleteThat STINKS for stremme. cripes. poor guy
ReplyDeleteEarth to JP - Bliss is not the leading NW only driver in points - it's BK.
ReplyDeletedot
ReplyDeleteditto what?? :)
Mike W say he didn't hit stremme???? Did I hear correctly.
WOW..LOTS of empty seaats..anybody hear attendence figures?
Halfway at 11PM, this should be fun.
ReplyDeleteWay to go Mike. Pass the buck.
ReplyDelete@ Sophia, weed in the lead at halfway.
Uh oh, David being interviewed and....no how are you feeling question. Maybe they are listening.
Did Shannon just ask another "What happened?" What a dumb question.
ReplyDeleteKARMA KARMA KARMA!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteDEAR DIARY!
ReplyDeleteA FOUR LETTER NETWORK Chickadee interviewed a driver after a crash and did NOT use the word "Feeling".
or FEEWING as Elmer Fudd would say. Poor David.
Ugh. STOP THE FULL THROTTLE stuff when there is a wreck. Who said somebody should be black flagged...could the booth explain??
JP probably meant the best Nationwide only organization. Say what you want but JRM is in alot of ways HMS. Engines, technology, drivers, etc.
ReplyDeletePhoenix Racing is a strictly Nationwide team and their only plus is they lease engines from HMS.
I know what JP meant, but it was confusing.
Sophia "cool beans" I've been saying that for years ,always receive a puzzled look. Cool beans.
ReplyDelete@anon 7:29--remember Sunday they showed Michael McDowell when talking about Herman's run. So apparently they need well more than a few days notice.
ReplyDeleteJD--no I wasn't watching back then when they got lights :(. Now that's a great concept! Actually informing viewers!
Yes I enjoyed them chatting with Mr. Alligator :). I hadn't noticed that he looked like Kurtsie...I'll have to check that out :).
Yes I thought that was odd with Brad D.
*giggle* Anyone with common sense could see what happened....poor Mike :(
uh oh.
ReplyDeleteDid I hear the F bomb???
Might want to listen to that audio before ya roll a replay...oh boy.
ReplyDeleteWhat did that radio say??? Yikes!! Someone was NOT paying attention to the radio audio ...
ReplyDeleteNASCAR Tower to Kyle Busch: "Dont do that again..."
ReplyDeleteWow Stremme's comments were pretty rich ... He might want to look at his history
ReplyDeleteKyle Busch to NASCAR Tower: "Tell that 1 and 32 to stop trying to jump me.."
ReplyDeletethat is double-secret Full Throttle....
ReplyDelete3bud
ReplyDeleteI only started using cool beans the last several years...i did not know it started in the 60's and 70's. When I googled it just now, it even had a Cheech and Chong reference...if you are old enough to remember them. :)
Now back to our show.
Did anybody else hear the F bomb. Or is it my alleged mind?
EDIT: Ok you guys heard it too...SLOPPY producing to replay audio with that language....booth ignored it but sometimes it's best to say nothing, right?
*Crickets chirping*
Pretend it never happened. WOW somebody said trouble...Thanks DJ for paying attention.
Sliced Bread is toast again.
ReplyDeleteWhy did we put the delay in for these races again?
ReplyDeleteBest utilization of the pointer thing I've ever seen (if it has an actual name someone please correct me). Kyle clearly didn't "brake-check" them based on the speed display, and DJ should know the rules regarding where you can and can't restart a race better than most people so I trust what he said. Based on DJ's comments and the ESPN video I'm not so sure what NASCAR is upset with Kyle about.
ReplyDeleteAt least DJ is looking out the window, but the booth sounds very tired. Zzzz....
ReplyDeleteI'm sure this isn't how Blaney wanted TV time :(
ReplyDeleteif nothing is broken on the suspension of the #20 they should be okay and be able to soldier a decent finish. I think Joey having to deal with traffic is a new challenge for him and its shown when he hasn't started at the front of the field that negotiating equal-to-faster traffic has been a challenge.
ReplyDeleteWhy wasn't Kyle Busch black flagged and did his name come up in the booth or did I space it out? heard it on some radios..is Weed the one that dropped the 'bomb'?
ReplyDeleteNASCAR's favoritism shows again...oh, my...that DG car.
stricklin...see my two "radio" postings for my view on the kyle busch thing.
ReplyDeleteclearly the 1 and the 32 ran up on him trying to get a jump...he was just bringing them down slow.
david
ReplyDeletegreat insight into Joey L comment!
sophia, the video shows kyle didn't do anything wrong so there was nothing to black flag him for. no one knows who dropped the bomb but it most certainly wasn't kyle busch.
ReplyDeletethat restart mess was caused by people trying to anticipate the start...kyle was doing nothing out of his right...everyone else got over-anxious.
I don't want to jinx anything so I'm not gonna mention it by name, but am I the only one who's noticed something very obvious has been absent for about 40 or so minutes now? (Hint... think Allstate Girls, Michael Waltrip-Ron Capps, and Lauren Wallace). I might have to wish for rain every week if this is going to be a side-effect :)
ReplyDeleteIs it my imagination or didn't some drivers want a lot of the green grass filled in? Wasn't that an issue at this track before?
ReplyDeleteThen again, I missed DJ's comments on KB....too much chocolate cake.
Why have those two red lines on the wall if the leader can sabotage the start?
ReplyDelete@ Sophia, Weed get penalized? He's one of the chosen ones.
Re: the F bomb, I would guess it was Mike Wallace.
Sophia, I think that was Mike Wallace that dropped the bomb.
ReplyDeleteJJ's NW struggles continue...
ReplyDeleteThat's one way to get to go home.
ReplyDeleteSophia I'll just say I had most of the Cheech and Chong 33 1/3 LP'S.
ReplyDelete"James" just doesn't drive well in other series does he?
ReplyDelete@ 3Bud, another golden oldie on this site, lol :)
ReplyDeleteDot, DJ explained it. Those lines are there to prevent drivers from starting before that point. Ala an Indycar restart. If you restart at the same point, every time, then you run the risk of someone anticipating that point and trying to get to the outside of you or take advantage of it. Thats why Kyle brought them down closer to the line. I don't see what he did wrong because he never slowed down...he maintained his speed.
ReplyDeleteThe telling part that we missed was that little tracker on Bliss...bet that speed would have been all over the board.
@dot--the lines just tells you the earliest point you have to be at before you can take the field to green. Most pretty much take the field to green from there and others a bit further down.
ReplyDelete@ David, yeah, I know. Are those lines a reference point for the spotters to let the drivers know what's going on way ahead of them? I hope I'm making sense.
ReplyDelete@3bud-what's an LP? *giggle* Yes I'm old enough to know what it is...I've even seen 8 tracks :).
ReplyDelete@dot--no "James" does not do well in other series!
Whoa Nelly! Almost had a flier there! Poor Mr. Alligator :(. At least he'll get some rest for his trip tomorrow.
Jeff Green has to be the most unlucky driver in NASCAR history.
ReplyDeleteBig air for Jeff Green!
ReplyDeleteRWI, 2 for 2.
ReplyDeleteSaw that coming. Good job Steven...
ReplyDeleteThe lines are there for the drivers. The spotters cant see them since they are on the towers and can't see the lines.
Well, this should be on SportsCenter tonight.
ReplyDeleteIs Steven ever going to grow up? Seriously?
ReplyDeleteYou would think after enough wrecks he would learn to stop putting himself in these situations. Immature driver that just doesn't seem to "get it."
gotcha 3bud
ReplyDeletewe are probably close in age. My friends had the albums...or I would borrow on occassion. :)
I think thats one of the fastest solo spins I have ever seen on JJ car getting loose. I can see how that was impossible to save....great driving by all to avoid him.
Stricklanfan: That pointer deal is called the "Pointer thingie" isn't it? ;-0
Isn't it sad we did not see THIS CAMERA WORK AT DEGA...we sure as hello won't see it tomorrow, either.
WOW! 31 almost flipped over. Jeff green moving around. Hope he is ok....hard likc.. Poor Justin...I bet he is honked off....
This track always seems to have a lot of wrecks..what is the deal.
Dot like they say "just because there's alittle snow on the roof doesn't mean uh...........
ReplyDeleteAt least Green won't be a weapon anymore tonight. Did he forget where the gas pedal was? Looked like he was coasting.
ReplyDeleteis it just me, or are the spotters audio always behind the video we are watching
ReplyDeleteThe theory is that there is supposed to be a delay for profanity. That is why Full Throttle never made sense to me.
ReplyDeleteWHERE WAS THIS DIRECTOR LAST WEEK!!!????
ReplyDeleteBipolar decision making. Last week I got motion sick from Bumper Cam Express excess.
RUIN one of my fave tracks and good job for NW at Charlotte. Unreal.
SOS tomorrow. But coverage been decent tonight as far as camera work imo.
but I am not stupid enough to hope for the same tomorrow.
been there, done that.
You can't blame Jeff. That car is owned by Curtis Key, the #40 Truck owner. They have made only 2-4 Nationwide starts with no funding, so they make the best with what they have. The car looked bad tonight, but they at least tried to run the distance and didn't park.
ReplyDeleteI thought they might have to do some welding on the fence after that one.
ReplyDeleteWell I guess it's okay to mention by name now since it's over, but unless I missed something that was almost an hour straight without a commercial break. Kind of like last year when the Kansas Cup race got moved to ESPN2. As I said earlier, give me a rain delay every week if the side-effect will be very limited to no commercial interruption!
ReplyDelete@ David 11:17, Boy, do I feel stupid. You'd think I would know that those lines are under the spotters. And to think, I'm not even drinking tonight.
ReplyDeleteAnother pass the buck driver. Boo Jeff Green.
That was a veteran interview by Justin. Wrong place wrong time indeed. Did his job perfectly, caught up in a dumb choice by someone who should know better by now
