Live Blogging Sprint Cup Series from Las Vegas On Fox

There is a new post up for your comments on the Las Vegas race. Thanks.

Get ready for what may be one of the best races of 2009 when all is said and done. If the Nationwide Series race from Saturday is any indication, the Las Vegas track is fast and the Cup action is going to be furious.

Chris Myers hosts the pre-race show from the Hollywood Hotel beginning at 3:30PM ET. He will be joined by Darrell Waltrip, Jeff Hammond and Digger. Amid the stories of this event, Digger will once again have a featured cartoon episode.

There are all kinds of stories throughout the field with the engine problems of Toyota, the struggles of Dale Earnhardt Jr. and joy of Max Papis who made the race on time. This should be a field day for the NASCAR on Fox pit reporters Krista Voda, Dick Berggren, Steve Byrnes and Matt Yocum.

Mike Joy will call the action with Waltrip and Larry McReynolds alongside. The green flag is scheduled for 4:46PM ET.

Pleas join us in the comments section as we talk about the TV coverage of this race. Just click on the comments button. This is a family-friendly website, please refrain from foul language or hateful speech.

Thanks again and happy posting.

I should clarify, the one online.

@anon 5:45--Jr. fan or not, *a lot* of folks are wondering the same. And since the Top 35 many have thought the same. What if a "name" failed to be in the Top 35 what would happen.

@JD--LOL! Haven't watched NRD yet but that's funny! Gotta love Herman!

I agree, since we lost Dale a lot of people have played "Dad" to Jr. Not intentionally but just how they appear around him. Back in 2K2/2K3 when Jr. was driving around with a concussion because he was afraid to let people know due to how Steve Park was treated. There was a shot of Mr. Helton sitting down next to Jr. after the truth came out and Mr. Helton had that fatherly appearance over Jr. One of those "I love you son but I'm disappointed in you at the same time" type dealios.

NASCAR and its teams shouldn't sell out with a company that uses soft porn in its ads. I am going to write the FCC and demand my local Fox affiliate loses their license next time it comes up for renewal. Go Daddy is not serving the public interests.

Anonymous said...

Now lets not all jump on against GoDaddy.com and imply its a bad company, they have supported numerous effects to keep children safe online. And there customer service is good.

@JD--Mad Max is 35th 2 laps down and AJA 36th also 2 laps down according to Trackpass :(

Poor Marky Mark :(

Like I said, it is strange that they keep this stuff going. I wonder if Danica is gritting her teeth as she tells us all she is "enhanced?"

Great shot of Kenseth's hauler leading the track.

Has Nemechek become a start and park?

Dot said...

Is there room for haulers to leave? They pack them in so close together.

@Dot regarding haulers.

I remember at Bristol I think they were parked in so close, that from a blimp shot looked like some puzzle.

red, I've been to a race shop while they were loading. It can take 1.5 to 2 hours to pack everything in. Those haulers are unbelievable --- every square inch inside is used.

jd, nemecheck is the only one back there who we'd consider a start 'n park but as we haven't heard anything, i can't say for sure why he's out -- or even if he IS out.

Daly Planet Editor said...

That looked like the Nationwide Series race.

TexasRaceLady said...

Forgot to add -- packing up the pit box is a job in itself.

Vicky D said...

Red, Nemechek raced over a hundred laps so I wouldn't consider him a start & parker. I guess that only happens in the truck & NW races.

Newracefan said...

Red he's out per Mike Joy, I seem to remember the same thing last week. Just wondering if it's planned or situaional due to limited help and parts and only occurs of certain things happen to the car

Did Go Daddy say WHY they are sticking with the suggestive themes?? So many folks I know (that are not prudes) find them offensive for "family sport"

Course same goes with certain "medicines" but it's all the same. Tasteless is tasteless.

They all SCREAMED -the FCC, parents, when Janet Jackson had her staged "accident" at the Super Bowl years ago but that GD enhancement commercial is about an inch or so away from same incident if you catch my drift.

I am old enough to remember the is it LIVE or is it MEMOREX commercials too ! :)

I just caught the updates about the winter storm. Now I understand why the TV guys are freaking out.

Going to be a fun Monday on the East Coast. I wonder if they guys will make it to the NASCAR Now set?

Anonymous said...

I know that this may be slightly off topic but poor racing makes for bad TV. Could it be that NASCAR's no test policy is at fault. Testing may have worked the bugs out of the engines and fixed the ill handling cars. If that is the case then how much money did NASCAR really save the teams.

All the weather updates should be done on the digital subchannels. Leave the main channel alone.

This is snow for heavens sake. Its not like its a life or death situation. Way overkill.

Anonymous said...

Ryan's having a good race finally :)

Anonymous said...

Weather alert constantly. Lots of pink & blue stuff on its way. Mountain schools already closing.

Not trying to fan the Jr thing but if he holds on to his motor & stays out of the wrecks he should get a good finish, way too many motor issues.

Daly Planet Editor said...

I can hardly wait to see if the HD channels roll out over the air. Subchannels are going to make things very interesting.

Every network could have several camera angles working just like Racebuddy.

Anonymous said...

"All the weather updates should be done on the digital subchannels."

And how are they gona get people to the subchannels? No one watches them unless something on the main channel tells them too. Also, some stations do not have subchannels, it really takes down the HD quality of broadcasts like these.

Sophia said...

JD, I dont think ANY stations are thinking about using them like that. New networks are launching specifically for those subchannels, so stations are just putting networks that have nothing to do with their main broadcast on those channels.

Sophia said...

@JD

GD wants to be MTV of online hosting..ok..that explains the suggestive advertising.

Even if the one commercial IS a little over the TOP. Pun intended.

thanks for the 'splanation.

Anonymous said...

oh, and another thing about subchannels. Only one of them can be in HD. So JDs multi-camera thought would not work out so much. They would look terrible.

Anonymous said...

Yea, Mikey!

Sophia said...

Bummer, MIKEY!!

Anonymous said...

NO!!! I hope mikey isnt too damaged.

Anonymous said...

And yet another thing about sub-channels...They take away from the HD quality of the main channel. So, some stations are opting to dump them all together. So much for that.

Sophia said...

JD, I look forward to the sub-channel discussion.
I just don't see how it would work right now since stations have limited bandwidth for all their channels and HD is taking up most of it. If anything, Sub channels have to be in VERY low quality standard definition.

Roof camera are not what I think red is talking about. Roof and other high up cameras have operators on then. Trackside mounted cameras are robotic for safety reasons. But keep in mind, these cameras still have operators too, they are just in a truck out of harms way.

As for them being wrong, the concern is that many of them have outdated road maps, as well as construction data. For example, a road could have closed a year ago, but the GPS device might send you down it anyway. Thats what you have to watch out for.

speaking of Digger merchandise, FOX executive David Hill was on a business channel the other day saying the demand for Digger stuff is HUGE. They can barely keep up with all the orders.

I wonder if Kyle even knows who Gracie is.

this is 2 weeks in a row johnson dominates the beginning but fades. just like jr last year

NewRaceFan, all of that is done by your local station, it has nothing to do with the National FOX broadcast.

Charlie

thanks for stereo feedback.

anon, yes i have heard that about GPS and also, say a road is cut in half by a nother road, and dead ends somewhere. But if you make a bunch of turns to get BACK to where that road continues, I know of my nephew in a strange city had the car bring him to a dead end street. But over a bank of grass out of site, WAS indeed the same road...so the GPS was wrong.

Had he been WALKING, he might have figured it out but it was dark..and well.

But I wondered how often they had problems in established areas..and the example I gave was what I had heard. But not that many people I talk to use those.

Thanks.

sorry for the digression JD but nobody mentioned recipes tonight. :)

hmmm, good observation there, J. wonder if jimmie "lacks focus" and is "too diverted by other things going on in his life"? just sayin' . . .

Trust me, KyB is not a hometown favorite.

Charlie - none of those drivers have probably ever heard of Burns & Allen show.

Anonymous said...

Dot, he is. Did you not hear the cheers for him? that would NOT happen at any other track.

Just got home and haven't read all the posts on this thread but I thought I would post this if anyone is interested. Last week people wondered what the ratings would be for the race and the Academy Awards. According to USA Today, the Oscars had a rating of 36.4 and the race's rating was 10.3. I know someone said that the Oscars would triple the ratings of Fontana while someone else said no way that would happen. I guess we know the answer now.

JJ didn't fade he got caught on pit road (will admit to lousy stops) but has a great car, last caution was 15-17th now 10th and is livid that they didn't red flag for clean up since this is such a long caution

Whya re you talking about Digger? Watch the race.

red said...

vicky d: nor, apparently, the guys in the hollywood hotel.

Sophia said...

You have to admit, had a car not crashed this would REEK of a phantom debri caution. :)

Should be interesting.

Any bets on IF we see more than one or two cross finish line?

DOT

I have heard Kyle is NOT a hometown fave.

In fairness I heard the same thing on his brother..but it's even worse for Shrub allegedly. ;-0

Well if your gona talk about ratings, forget about the Oscars. Last weeks NASCAR race was the highest rated sports event all week.

Dot said...

I'm with J, go Reut.

Karen said...

I'm wondering too how KyB even knew the phrase Say goodnight, Gracie.

Charlie said...

Vicky D, I can still see George Burns with a cigar in his hand saying those words.

Sophia said...

Ok this is WAY TOO LONG a caution.

When this is cleaned up what will we have 4 laps to go.
SHEESH.

Anonymous said...

this really is a long caution

Sophia said...

OH COME ON!! ANOTHER PASS of the cleaning truck.

I understand JJ's pain :)

Dot-from what I've heard & seen, I believe ya, gal!! Sorry, but will this race NEVER end?? I HATE left coast races w/these starting times...:(

nascar proving how much of a joke they are ticking laps off becasue Kyle is leading

WHERE IS THE REDFLAG

ITS SO OBVIOUS WHO NASCAR AND DW ARE IN THE TANK FOR

bowyer will run out of fuel

Dot said...

Any snow updates on during the YF? Or, are they only on during the race?

Anonymous said...

I know perceptions are different but I have to chuckle when I see on the Weather Channel that places in North Carolina have winter storm warnings for 2 to 4 inches of snow. Where we come from, that's a dusting. But I guess that in the South, even a real dusting is something that freaks them out. I wonder if the race teams will be able to fly their private jets home?

Newracefan said...

This yellow is just BS they should have red flagged it, I feel like Nascar is handing this race to Kyle.
