Live Blogging The Dover Nationwide Series Race On ABC
This is one of the rare ABC broadcasts for the Nationwide Series. The exposure on an over-the-air TV network should be good for the series and perhaps let some new fans see the Dover action.
Allen Bestwick will kick things off at 2PM ET with the NASCAR Countdown pre-race show. Joining Bestwick this week are Dale Jarrett and Brad Daugherty. Rusty Wallace has the weekend off. Joey Logano is on the pole and he should be a topic. Whether or not Bestwick brings-up the Sprint Cup Series news of the crew chief change for Junior and the Mayfield legal challenge will be interesting to see.
Dr. Jerry Punch returns to call the action with Jarrett and Andy Petree in the booth. Vince Welch has the weekend off, so Jamie Little, Shannon Spake and Dave Burns will handle the action on the newly-renovated pit road.
Rain washed out the truck series race on Friday night and left the track pretty green. The Nationwide guys are going to face a track without a lot of rubber down. Dover is treacherous and the concrete surface is a challenge to the newer drivers.
The weather is clear and the pictures should be good. Dover is narrow on the backstretch and it has been a challenge over the years to follow the action in that area. But the biggest challenges at Dover can only be seen on the in-car cameras.
This track has two bridges over the speedway at the entrance and the exit of the backstretch. They are usually described as being between turns two and three. The cameramen use practice to perfect their moves that allow coverage of the racing action but never show the bridges during the race.
Look for this element during the telecast today. When the Director uses an aerial shot or stays with an in-car camera you can see the exact location of both of these bridges. This veteran ESPN crew uses the best triple-split on TV during caution flag pit stops. Also on-target is the wideshot of the finish with all the lead lap cars clearly racing to the line on-camera.
This post will serve to host your comments about the ABC coverage of the Nationwide Series race from Dover. To add your TV-related comment, just click on the comments button below. This is a family-friendly website, please keep that in mind when posting.
Thanks for taking the time to stop by The Daly Planet.
Hey folks, this should be a good race and the weather is holding.
ReplyDeleteDue to tire issues in practice, there will be a competition caution at lap 35 in this race.
ReplyDeleteLet's see when the ABC team mentions this fact.
JD
Nationwide Pre-Race show ...
ReplyDeleteNot available in Seattle & Portland ... Courtesy of Fisher Broadcasting ...
hey gang! well, we're trying the truck race again today so we're headed out right now for dover!
ReplyDeletecatch up with you on the flip side!!
Have fun red!
ReplyDeleteI cannot believe we are having the same issue in WA. I thought they had cleared that up.
JD
"Hannah Montana" on KOMO SD and HD in Seattle. Fortunately I have access to the Detroit HD station. Looks like they'll join the race at 11:30.
ReplyDeleteI"m sooooooo tired of this. It's 11 a.m.! Surely kid's programming could be finished by now. Then again, Hannah Montana is Disney's gravy train...
--KarenB
No dice, JD ...
ReplyDeleteThey do it for the 4 Nationwide races on ABC ... This is the 3rd straight year ...
What they do is ... If the actual racecast starts at 11:30am pacific, they'll move one show to like 4:30pm ...
But, they won't do that to air the pre-race show (NASCAR Countdown) ...
There's 90 minutes of infomercials and an ep of "NASCAR Angels" after the time block for the race ...
It will interesting to see the comparison between the two races today and the crew that broadcast them.
ReplyDeletePrerace is on ABC in LV.
ReplyDeleteThis is a rather unique TV opportunity for sure. The buttoned-up style of ESPN and the laid-back style of SPEED.
ReplyDeleteThe affiliates are required to show a certain amount of children's programing each week during daytime hours.
ReplyDeleteThat does not mean that they can not prempt the children s programming until after the race
snlfan, we have been going at it with this one company for years.
ReplyDeleteAll the other West Coast ABC stations just move the block up an hour, but Fisher runs their local news in a multi-hour block and refuses to lose an hour.
There are tons of other ABC affiliates on the West Coast who have no problem. It all comes down to losing the ad revenue from one hour of weekend morning local news.
Got to love TV!
JD
Why do they always talk about the CUP drivers on the NW prerace? Oh wait, they just talked about Keller and Wimmer for about 5 seconds.
ReplyDeleteThe NW Series needs a sit down with the TV partners demanding equal time for their drivers.
Uh oh, Kevin Conway has the Extenze sponsorship. Here we go again.
ReplyDeleteCommercial for "Wipeout" - proof that the movie "Idiocracy" was indeed a documentary.
ReplyDeleteDot If Jeffery Earnhardt had made the race they would have been all over him.
ReplyDeleteWonder were I might see this "truck" race you speak of? :)
ReplyDeleteI wondered the same thing bevo. ;-)
ReplyDeleteJeez, why do these people always sing your anthem like it's a dirge?
TSN is supposed to be showing the race. There's tennis crap on right now. TSN has learned well from their ABC/ESPN affiliation.
--KarenB
@ bevo, too funny. MXC (the Japanese original) is much better. The trucks are on about 2:30 (PDT).
ReplyDeletebevo,
ReplyDeleteI think I can excuse this particular lack of cross-promotion for Speed Channel. ESPN might not be sure when the Truck race will actually air on Speed. They might be thinking that the powers-that-be at Speed will deem a Behind the Headsets re-air and a Truck qualifying re-air more important than the live coverage of the Truck race... again.
JD - Mark your calendar ... No airing of "NASCAR Countdown" for Seattle (& prolly Portland) on June 27th ... ;-)
ReplyDeleteKOMO-tv's Saturday morning newscasts are a snooze fest ...
I heard through the grapevine that the ABC Wipeout thing was a bunch of wanna-be-actors and they "act" their way through it with personalities assigned to them by the TV producer.
ReplyDeleteI may have to pass on that one.
Which was more over-hyped...Wrecked, Wipeout or Jon and Kate Plus Eight?
JD
Karen, the race is not on TSN2?
ReplyDeleteJD,
ReplyDeleteWouldn't surprise me at all, very little "reality" in reality tv.
bevo, I considered opening a TV blog featuring "reality" shows.
ReplyDeleteIf most viewers knew what went on behind the scenes, it may be a very different story in the ratings.
The genesis of this blog was SPEED starting PINKS and dropping tons of real racing. Seems like long ago.
JD
No JD, for once it's on TSN, which is nice 'cause I don't get TSN2. And what do they do? They broadcast tennis stuff for the pre-race and about 10 minutes into the regular coverage.
ReplyDeleteShaw bought out my local not-for-profit cable company earlier this year. Hopefully, starting next month, they'll re-align the channels so I can get TSN2.
However, that doesn't matter if they pre-empt programming. TSN is an ESPN affiliate, and they have the same problem as ESPN: too much programming, too little broadcast time.
--KarenB
Really? We're still under caution?
ReplyDeleteThey need to address this issue.
"I heard through the grapevine that the ABC Wipeout thing was a bunch of wanna-be-actors and they "act" their way through it with personalities assigned to them by the TV producer."
ReplyDeletelike I heard through the grapevine the final 10 in American Idol were known before the "auditions".
Gotta love tv
Count me out of participating in a "reality" TV blog. Can't stand the stuff, refuse to watch it. It makes my eyes bleed. :-)
ReplyDelete--KarenB
Little 'reality' in reality tv...
ReplyDeleteExactly my thoughts ever since the dumb trend begin.
The only one of those shows I ever watched was the John Force one.
ReplyDeleteA few friends went out to the Texas Motorplex a couple of years ago for the taping of Pinks. They couldn't believe how contrived it was before the tape started rolling.
Bad break for the Biff, got a replay?
ReplyDeleteAlot of cars off and/or out already.
ReplyDeleteAnybody got a start and park list going?
ReplyDeleteSucks for GB.
ReplyDeleteKind of weird statement by AP about Biffle there
ReplyDeleteMRN says Bif had two 2 inch cuts right down the middle of both the right side tires
ReplyDeleteI'm behind but had a thought. what happens if the NW race runs really late (red flags for wrecks or what ever), would they still run the truck race since there are no lights?
ReplyDeleteTire issues... uh oh, could be a problem.
ReplyDeletePlease happen to SDDD...
NFR-I thought the same thing.
ReplyDeleteDo you guys remember if JP or AB told us that there would be a comp caution on lap 35?
ReplyDeleteVery good replays of that wreck
ReplyDeletenrf, they would start it, run it past halfway and then call it for darkness like they used to in the old days.
ReplyDeleteAB mentioned it just before they went to the booth
ReplyDeleteIt sure would have been a nice story to see 4th generation driver Jeffrey Earnhardt make his Nationwide Series debut today. It's just a shame that NASCAR thinks it's healthier for the sport to have 5 start-and-park cars who pulled off the track in fewer than 20 laps taking the place of a driver like that who actually would have tried to finish the race. The sad thing is I have a feeling the starting and parking isn't finished yet.
ReplyDeleteIf NASCAR's not going to stop the start-and-park maybe it's time to break qualifying into 3 parts - the top 30/35, then the other cars that actually plan on racing, and then IF there are any spots left let the start-and-park cars fight amongst themselves to be the "field fillers" and take those final few paychecks.
Please note that (once again) I am not actually watching/listening to the rae and relying on you guys again.
ReplyDelete(knowing me, I'll come in later)
@ JD, the caution @ lap 35 was mentioned. Did they just abruptly go to comml during the pit stop?
ReplyDeleteJeffrey looks and sounds so much like Dale Sr. it still freaks me out.
ReplyDeletehotaru, what's the issue? technical or financial?
ReplyDeleteI like the triple-pit split but what in the world is the point of switching away from the 6-18-20 split to show the 18's pit stop on the full screen, followed by the 20's on the full screen?
ReplyDeleteJust keep that triple-split the whole time and let us see all 3 stops in their entirety, please.
JD- ESPN 'script' issue!
ReplyDeleteLooks to me like Car 0 Mark Green is out along with car 90 Johnny Chapman, car 91 Terry Cook, car 96 Dennis Setzer and car 05 Casey Atwood. Car 77 Peyton Sellers is also out but was in a wreck on the first lap.
ReplyDeletePlus, I tend to not watch the whole race if SDDD is too far ahead.
ReplyDeleteI now it is very early - but they seem to be showing more of the racing. Doubt it will last
ReplyDeleteThey keep jumping from story to story without letting it payoff and us see what happened.
ReplyDeleteThank you Charlie, the usual suspects.
ReplyDeleteNot using the 'script'....
ReplyDeleteMaybe I'll turn on MRN (but if certain 'Yota driver leading... OUT)
28 cars on the lead lap.
ReplyDeleteDo you think SDDD has team orders to let Joey continue to lead? He'd already be first by now.
ReplyDelete"Opened a can" said JP?
ReplyDeleteKind of not his style isn't it?
Punch has some energy right now. But the question is, does he still have it 45 minutes from now?
ReplyDeleteJGR teammates?
ReplyDeleteOUT! (walked out of the quiet of my room)
Darn SDDD!
ESPN needs to dump the losers in the studio booth. They don't add anything to the coverage.
ReplyDeleteWhat's up with the Red Wings logo on the hood?
ReplyDeleteINteresting - I just found a room on paltalk where they are broadcasting espn's coverage of the race via webcam /audio
ReplyDeleteOT I got an email from Dover saying that they are making some changes to ticket packages so the renewal won't come until after this weeks race, I'm thinking it's more because they don't know when or if they will have a spring race, or am I being paranoid?
ReplyDeleteTo reiterate my last statement- I like Joey, but I'd rather not have JGR win in NW.
ReplyDeleteAnd you all know how I feel 'bout SDDD.
Bevo Redwings sponsoring the car
ReplyDeleteBill, illegal streaming of sports TV is one of the biggest problems on the Internet.
ReplyDeleteI don't know who Justin is, but when the lawsuit comes down it is going to be huge.
The technology is easy and cheap. This has been a huge issue for international sports TV shows.
JD
Kyle Petty was supposed to have a big announcement today, anyone know what it was?
ReplyDeleteHe is on RaceDay tomorrow as Jimmy Spencer has the weekend off, we should surely know then.
justin.tv is cool, patently illegal, but very cool. Its more than just sports. I just watched the final of Britain's Got Talent.
ReplyDeleteAnon who won?
ReplyDeleteJustin is how I watched the racing when my local kept interrupting it with every 15 minute snow updates for a storm the was more than 5 hours away
@nrf- Sure all the Pens fans love seeing that :)
ReplyDeleteMaybe Dover will get an IRL race next year?
JD,
ReplyDeleteJust please don't shut down Justin until the Fox portion of F1 races is done :) I want my F1 live.
Bevo, We're Flyer fans around here not Pens fans so we don't care?
ReplyDeleteIRL? Now that's funny
As a major Pens fan, I can only say "Grrr...."
ReplyDelete-D
The results show isn't for another hour or so. Over there, since its a single timezone, they can have the competition, and results on the same day.
ReplyDeleteThe music industry finally got the message and allowed digital downloads at a very low cost in part to combat piracy giving people a legal way to get what they want.
Hopefully, we'll see the same thing with TV broadcasts. There is obviously a huge market for it.
I'm tired of hearing Kyle complain that people are in his way. This is a race, everybody is not going to wave you by because you are a Cup driver.
ReplyDeleteJP is hanging in there and doing a good job so far.
ReplyDeleteOnce again great replays of the incident.
ReplyDeleteCamera work has been very good, seems like we are seeing more racing today.
Kyle apparently was thinking of himself when he suggested that Junior was never the problem...
ReplyDeleteBy the way: "Dale Earnhardt....uh...Junior...Incorporated?"
This is Doc "holding up?"
Missed the begining of the race, but have caught up nos. I hate also hearing the cup drivers complain about the Nationwide drivers being in their way this is a race not move over and stop for them. We watched just the other day Allen Parsons do the East West race in Iowa and they did a terrific job so much more exciting than this group here. How did Biffle get down several laps missed that.
ReplyDeleteAnybody else have problems with these Extenze commercials when kids are watching?
ReplyDeleteLarry Mac: Just had our final production meeting of 2009 for NASCAR on FOX...our biggest goal for tomorrow is to have some fun!
ReplyDeleteJust in from Twitter. I hope he does not do another magic trick.
Still don't like the in-race reporter thing. Doesn't add anything to the broadcast.
ReplyDelete@JD--re: Reality TV blog--I'd still watch but I've heard some of the things that go on but it's nothing that's surprising or shocking. But I'll save my two cents for another post or blog if we go there :)
ReplyDelete@anon 2:54--actually the last 2 seasons of AI has had that actually. Folks who have performed elsewhere and/or had previous recording contracts.
@bevo--yes I loved the one with the Forces! Courtney is so funny on twitter!
@JD--I remember when Kerry was still in Busch and Mike Joy was talking with him. Mike in error called him Dale quickly realized his error and corrected himself.
at least we have not started sailing it into the corners!
ReplyDelete@ VickyD, Biff hit the wall earlier and then got a pit road penalty later.
ReplyDeleteJD - you beat me to the "punch" on sailing into the corners!
ReplyDeleteTells you all you need to know : goal is to have fun. Sad.
ReplyDelete"Something wrong with the Steven Wallace car..."
ReplyDeleteYeah, the driver!
Setting sail....Maybe JP needs to cover Regatta racing.
ReplyDeleteOT Twitter Is that really Michael McDowell Twittering from the car, I don't know weather to be inpressed or afraid
ReplyDeletebevo said...
ReplyDeleteStill don't like the in-race reporter thing. Doesn't add anything to the broadcast.
May 30, 2009 3:42 PM
Agreed.
Anon at 3:44 - you got that right! Just watching him get the 61 car too.
ReplyDeleteIs Dr Black waiting for Steve Wallace after the race?
ReplyDelete@nrf- very few of those people who Tweet are actually doing it ;)
ReplyDeleteHow many laps has it been since Carl Edwards has been mentioned?
ReplyDeleteMcDows- Probably not.
ReplyDeleteIf the account link is from an official site/other reliable source (team member/relative) you're okay.
Dot,
ReplyDeleteThink 5 Hour Energy Drink will result in a positive test?
The truck is doing a good job finding racing on the track.
ReplyDelete-D
Do we know why Kenny Wallace off the track?
ReplyDeleteNevermind KW, Twitter engine blown
ReplyDelete@Dot- No need. He's just being a Wallace :)
ReplyDeleteClint Bowyer is the oldest looking 30 yr old I've ever seen.
ReplyDeleteIf you're interested in drivers who use Twitter (or any other race-related tweets, including every racing series, owners, tracks, and reporters), check out this awesome reference http://twittermotorsports.com/wiki/Main_Page .
ReplyDeleteThey go to the trouble of verifying if it's really the driver. For instance, Ryan Newman has a Twitter account, but he has someone tweet on his behalf. Yes, it's really McDowell's account, but I don't think he's tweeting during the race.
Some driver favourites: Max Papis, BLabonte, Kyle Petty.
--KarenB
JD,
ReplyDeleteNot to get too serious but the alarming thing with all of those "energy" drinks is the rising incidents of heart attacks in younger people.
Well, Colin Braun's is him... his dad posted it on the Roush board I go on.
ReplyDeleteSDDD... no, no, no! Come on David!
Nice update on BK. Now, how about telling us about BK's car, eh?
ReplyDelete-D
Does anyone out there think the production quality is lacking today due to the absence screaming cartoon characters covering up the racecars?
ReplyDeleteSimilarly, does anyone miss having green flag side-by-side racing covered up with video bumpers of Kyle Busch playing the drums or in-race sponsored content like the Bite of the Race or the weekly Home Depot Rookie Profile?
Was that the most confusing update ever on Brad K by Shannon???
ReplyDeleteWow. Shannon's report on Brad added nothing.
ReplyDelete@Bill H & JD--they do that on Justin too that's how I'm able to watch until I get a TV/cable again. You just hook up your TV to the computer (or can do a webcam, that's what Ben did until he got the TV tuner) and set up a channel to broadcast and you're in business! If you want to show F1 or IRL you have to password protect the channel, but people can contact you to get the password. My friend lost his channel again (he lost it once for showing F1 and lost it a few weeks ago for showing IRL pole day. Funny he showed other IRL stuff the weeks before and nothing happened). Then again I watched the 500 on an unprotected Justin channel and the owner hasn't lost his channel over it. But if someone tips off some of these folks and they contact Justin then you lose your channel like that. No time for "oopsie I didn't know won't happen again". So far SPEED/FOX/ESPN/NA$CAR has not had an issue with this. We get a lot of folks outside the US who while they have to watch at a ridiculous hour at least are able to watch via the site. We even have a couple of folks serving our country who tune in when they can :)
ReplyDeleteThere are tons of streaming sites, I'm only familiar with Justin because of folks I've chatted with in there and everyone shares with one another so that we can always have back up if one person's stream goes down (not due to it being pulled but due to internet/cable issues) we have another place that'll welcome us. But I've watched AI on another streaming site and it's been no issue (on Justin you have to password protect the channel to show it otherwise once someone rats you out, the AI folks will contact Justin and you're shut down). I don't know if the difference is that he has his own website and then embeds the video to his site or what.
BTW- I have now turned on MRN. Told ya I'd tune in late.
ReplyDeleteBy the way all, hey. Just got out of bed...Working my odd hours needed to get some sleep after work lol
ReplyDeleteAnd I can barely answer my cell phone! Boy am I behind the times. I alerady know the script for tomorrow - we might not see any other car on the track except Jr or a closeup to his new temp crew chief.
ReplyDeleteGood rundown with only three pit reporters. Nice use of the booth.
ReplyDeleteNewman's out of his misery.
ReplyDeleteJD, i wouldnt figure they would miss a beat with only 3 pit reporters...ive preached from the start of this package that less is more anyways. =) now if we could just get updates that are relevant to the race we'd be set
ReplyDeleteThree things that could make me miserable-
ReplyDeleteSDDD wins NW
SDDD wins CWT
All of the above.
Like that they attempt a rundown but it would help if they talked about what's going on.
ReplyDeleteGeez, money shot?
Why can't SDDD blow a tire?
ReplyDeleteHot - also that Iowa race (and it was 2 or 3 weeks ago but just broadcast on Speed) SDDD won that too and was so proud of himself of beating those youngsters in that series.
ReplyDelete@ragan- not touching that with a ten foot pole :)
ReplyDeleteShannon asked an excellent question of RN. Wow.
ReplyDelete-D
I'm just tired of him winning in NW all the time.
ReplyDeleteRyan works for Smoke doesn't he? :)
ReplyDelete/Goodyear
Again, I ask what is there to gain by switching out of the 29-18-20 triple pit split to show the 20's pit stop on the full-screen?
ReplyDeleteKeeping the triple pit up the full time would have let us see both Kyle and Joey's pit stop in their entirety. Instead we saw the first 4 seconds of Kyle's and no more (and were only spared Clint's full stop because he had pit stall 43 and his stop was done before Joey reached his stall).
Starting with a triple-pit and then switching to a full-screen pit stop midway through is just about as inadequate as Fox's laughable approach to yellow flag stops, in my personal opinion.
Go Kyle.
ReplyDeleteShannon got caught short on that one.
ReplyDeleteNed Jarrett tells a story about doing the pit reporting for MRN and they send it down to him for an unexpected pit stop by one of his assigned drivers.
He was um..standing in the men's room and and just listened to the stop and called it live with one hand holding the microphone.
As the car left he sent it back up to the booth and Barney Hall.
One guy washing his hands looked at him and said "so that's how you do it."
Too funnny.
Stricklin, I think they were expecting someone to pull the fender out on Joey from when Biff knocked it in a couple restarts ago
ReplyDeleteTire testing at Indy starts Monday. Anybody want to predict if they've got a tire that'll last a full fuel run?
ReplyDeleteLOL JD, I think ive heard that story before
ReplyDelete@ hotaru, my wish is that SDDD leads the most laps and then.....disaster strikes.
ReplyDelete@ bevo, you're killing me about your comment to hotaru.
Doesn't that make something like 14 cars out now? Might be a good time to look at the pit stall situation now and how it might impact the end of the race.
ReplyDeletecvt, no way they will. In 2 prior tests we are only up to half a fuel run, no way they turned around in a couple weeks and got a tire to last twice as long I dont think.
ReplyDeleteI think I'm the leader of TDP Shrub-Out Crew.
ReplyDeleteOn the triple-split, I wish they would stay with all three drivers the entirety of the pit stops; but they should loosen up the shot on the cars that get out first so you can see their progress on pit road while the other cars finish their stops. JMHO, of course.
ReplyDelete-D
<--not fond of the idea of double file restarts.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeletehotaru, you're in a league of your own.
ReplyDeleteDavid said...
ReplyDeleteStricklin, I think they were expecting someone to pull the fender out on Joey from when Biff knocked it in a couple restarts ago
That's a fair thought but I'm not sure about that since they did the same thing on the first set of yellow flag stops, before said fender damage existed.
To me it just makes zero sense to take that approach. The triple-pit allows us to see 3 stops in their entirety. Switching out of that shot to blow up the shot of one of those 3 stops on the full screen is completely counterproductive and defeats the whole purpose of the triple-pit to begin with, in my personal opinion.

ReplyDeleteWonder if Rusty is in his son's pit?
ReplyDeleteDang. My Roush dudes are having a poopy day.
ReplyDelete--KarenB
Re: Indy tires. I think I read that they can go about 18 laps.
ReplyDeleteIf the tucks and NW run at ORP, do they all use the same tires as CUP?
Not a good day for the CUP guys. Now only if SDDD......
Im with ya strick.
ReplyDeleteI missed the first round since I was asleep so did not notice that.
Waaaahhh! David! No!
ReplyDeleteI'm done. :(
@ JD, Steve's hoping not.
ReplyDeleteWas the meeting with drivers & Nascar just the cup drivers? I never heard. Cup guys having issues all of a sudden.
ReplyDeleteNo Dot.
ReplyDeleteOPR = short track which means no inner liners
IMS: speedway which calls for a totally different compound
JD can you imagine what his son's NASCAR career has cost RW?
ReplyDeleteYes vicky, it was cup drivers and owners only
ReplyDeleteJD,
ReplyDeleteHe's in something but it might not be his pit :)
@ David, that's what I thought. But why do the 3 series run the same tire? It's apparent that it's not working on the COT.
ReplyDeleteI'm going outside. Be back for the truck race. Have fun.
bevo, did not know you knew him so well. probably dead on target.
ReplyDeleteDot, it has alot to do with cost I think.
ReplyDeleteThats why the big argument from Ray Evernham since this car came out was that until NASCAR allows Goodyear to design a tire specifically for this car, whether that be a different rim size, sidewall height, or treadwidth, we were going to continue to see problems with the COT. Plus if you design a tire just for the COT its going to probably be wayyyyy too hard for the CWTS or NW cars to run on.
I give the goodyear guys some credit for what they have to work with, but at the same time until the COT gets its own tire to fit that car, the struggles will continue
Write another check Rusty! Lots and lots of damage out there today.
ReplyDeleteLet's see if McDowell gets parked. That was certainly Jarrett and Petree soft-selling reality.
ReplyDeleteSAFER once again pays off.
ReplyDeleteOh no poor Scott! What a bad wreck.
ReplyDeleteHey, it's NASCAR stripperama!
ReplyDeleteidk JD, im willing to put that as a racing type deal. Not saying it was a total racing deal, but with 40 laps to go Mike was probably racing hard and got a little loose off 4 and wondered down a little. From the first angle honestly it looked to me that scott ran up into the 47
ReplyDeleteThey have done an excellent job with the camera shots and replays today.
ReplyDeleteInstead of talking safety why not talk about the drivers and who is where and why.
ReplyDeleteTrust me, I am definitely no prude, but there's a time and a place for those GoDaddy.com commercials. I'm not sure during a "family" event like a NASCAR race is appropriate. I wonder how people with kids explain the content to their children. Or do kids even notice things like that any more?
ReplyDelete--KarenB
What a bad shot of those empty seats.
ReplyDeleteIs this the first time Kyle hasn't had an in-car camera in a long time?
ReplyDeleteCome on Jerry, bring it home!
ReplyDeleteI think Brian Keslowski deserves some love for keeping his ride on the lead lap all day...
ReplyDeleteYanno I was a little curious asto the start time for the trucks due to darkness and figured if weather would threaten at all that it'd be a problem but im impressed with the gorgeous weather they are having today. Hope we see it tomorrow too
ReplyDeleteDid the video get weird there for anyone else just before the break when they zoomed in on Busch?
ReplyDeleteWith such a short track and as many cars still out there you would think there would be some good racing but if there is, I don't see it.
ReplyDeleteDavid - and a attaboy to Bobby Jr. too he's had a great race today.
ReplyDeleteYeah, its a shame he doesnt have a full time ride. Really irks me to see McClure driving that 24...they were a top 10 team last year with Bobby Jr in the car
ReplyDeleteSomething must have broken at my ABC affiliate, KSTP in St. Paul, MN. We've been frozen on a picture of Jeff Burton lecturing people about Holiday Inn Express for like 20 minutes.
ReplyDeleteDJ talks about Busch the way an analyst should. Specific examples about his talent without creaming all over him. DW should take note of that.
ReplyDeleteLOL bevo!!!
ReplyDeleteAnon at 3:46 - maybe Burton's getting a mullett!
ReplyDeleteAnon, when a video path loses the incoming signal, it holds the final image it received.
ReplyDeleteYou are seeing that final frame.
Might be time for a phone call.
Been a great broadcast for all of the technical stuff, pit reporters have been good with the exception of SS. But if you took JP out of the booth today I don't know if we would have noticed much. AP and DJ could carry the load alone.
ReplyDeleteWell well well we have a new storyline now don't we kids :)
ReplyDeleteReally rookie move by Joey, hopefully he learned something from it.
ReplyDeleteKyle aint gonna be happy
Anon 4:46, reboot your DVR if you have one.
ReplyDeleteOh no, no interview with KB today. Big congrats to BK.
ReplyDeleteHeard Dan screaming so I came in. My wish came true.
ReplyDeleteBrad won? Cool!
ReplyDeleteCry SDDD, cry!
ReplyDeleteUhhh, call it crybaby but his teammate screwed him in my eyes. They got in the marbles then the 38 finished Kyle off which is why the RF went down.
ReplyDeleteGive Brad credit, they were there all day.
Gonna be some hard feelings between the entire 18 and 20 team though
Think Kyle kind of slew-footed it there to borrow a hockey term
ReplyDeleteProud of Joey, but that last angle might have backed up what Joey was saying. Think Kyle might have been trying to give Joey the bottom as there might have been a problem...
ReplyDeleteI think Joey did good. Kyle has the reputation of having excellent restarts and you have to try to stick with him.
ReplyDeleteHow sweet it is.
ReplyDeleteNice pitch for the Cup race thats going on tomorrow...NOT
ReplyDeleteWow, nice job. Thanks everyone, we will open the CWTS chat at 5:30PM today. Thanks for stopping by.
ReplyDeleteDid they really have to follow SDDD with their cameras?
ReplyDeleteESPN can advertise the Goode Family and Wipeout but can't bother to advertise the Cup race tomorrow at the same track? I really hope they leave their ego at the door when TNT comes.
ReplyDelete@Anon 5:08pm - When was the last time FOX promoted an ESPN broadcast?
ReplyDeleteHell, SPEED won't even mention who is doing the Nationwide races when they cover qualifying.
They ALL need to check up their egos and stop acting like they are the only ones doing race coverage.
A new post is up for your comments on the SPEED coverage of the Camping World Truck Series.
ReplyDeleteThanks,
JD
