Live Blogging RaceDay And The All-Star Race On SPEED

Here we go with eight hours of live NASCAR on SPEED. RaceDay is first at 4PM for three hours. The All-Star races are next at 7PM and then Victory Lane wraps it all up at 11PM ET.

This post will serve to host your comments as we watch SPEED deal with both the weather and a live Sprint Cup Series non-points race.

@Karen I went in under the NA$CAR homepage. But looking at the actual page the Showdown is ready to go but the All Star is grayed out since that won't be until 9. They have to update the information for the vote winner and who makes it in by racing. So once that's done it'll be ready.

Dot said...

Hey Gymmie, here I am.

Too nervous to comment.

Haus14 said...

darbar - it was a joke!

kbaskins said...

I was wondering the same thing, Karen. We Roush fans are few and far between. I feel so lonely. :-)

Good thing this race isn't on Fox. Rain delayed baseball still going on in some markets, and would likely continue for at least 1 hour.

darbar said...

I'm sorry, but it just isn't right for the cautions to count on either segment. It's not fair to the guys in the back

darbar said...

Sorry haus20.

Anonymous said...

Hi Dot! <3

kbaskins said...

I agree wholeheartedly, darbar. NASCAR really oughta line them up differently if rain washes out qualifying. Making caution laps count only penalizes them further.

--KarenB

Haus14 said...

Darbar, I was asking that in reference to the "retaliation" that Joey gave to Vickers. That was a Tony move.

Dot said...

Why do they count the yellow laps in the first segment but not the second? They shouldn't count at all.

Digger sighting.

Anonymous said...

Digger is back....

kbaskins said...

Oh, I didn't realize that the second 20 are green-flag laps only. Thanks, Larry Mac! You're the bestest. Seriously, I just love that dude.

--KarenB

Mike said...

What kills me is (weather-permitting) there'll be an hour of downtime between the 2 races. Instead of wasting all that time, I'd rather they take that time and make this showdown race a little bit longer. The Showdown race should be at least half the distance as the main event is.

And it's not like they have to get off the air for other TV obligations.

Karen said...

Mike,

That makes much more sense than this format.

Daly Planet Editor said...

Digger on SPEED could be a bad omen for the rest of the season.

Dot said...

The one thing I hate about night races is I have to fix dinner. :(

I'll be back.

Vicky D said...

Crazy rules tonight in this race.

Mike said...

Vicki,

That's why I say the Showdown race is sometimes more exciting than the main event. You just don't know what's going to happen.

Haus14 said...

From looking at the radar, they may want to move up the green flag for the all star race as well. Scattered showers headed toward Concord with a big line of storms behind that.

Karen said...

Dot, I prepped mine so I'm running back and forth.

Anonymous said...

Order pizza Dot!!

Mike said...

If there's weather approaching, it'll be interesting to see how they handle intros....usually they have the driver and his crew come out on stage. They may have to amend that some.

kbaskins said...

I wish they'd take note of some of the other drivers further back, instead of concentrating on the leaders. That's a failing of all the broadcasting crews, for all the races. I guess if it was easy, everyone would be doing it. :-)

--KarenB

Vicky D said...

I always think Nascar is funny because they'll say weather is approaching so they throw the green flag 6 minutes or so earlier. It seems to be it wouldn't be a difference.

darbar said...

Would they consider having the race tomorrow if rain hits?

Anonymous said...

Karen - Mike Joy will tell you that it only counts if you finish 1st & 2nd in this race..

3rd and back don't matter

Anonymous said...

SPEED's 'behind the leader' graphic take too much of of the screen. Only shows at the most two times.

Daly Planet Editor said...

Wish there had been some more passing. Nice pictures but this race is always tough to cover.

Mike said...

The Showdown took the checkers at 8:17....now we'll see how much downtime they'll have until the green flag for the main event.

Anonymous said...

That was quite an uneventful finish. Way to go Speed spoiling 4 of the top 5 vote winners.

kbaskins said...

Aren't they supposed to announce the voting winner soon? You think the boys in the booth would give us a heads-up about that.

--KarenB

The Loose Wheel said...

They called Logano and Dinger to the hauler, so one of them won the vote id imagine

The Loose Wheel said...

the winner wont be announced until driver intros.

logano won the fan vote so i heard...

PammH said...

They are interviewing Joey on MRN-he won the fan vote...:(

Karen said...

KarenB,

I think that's the last introduction. Don't think they'll tell us.

red said...

twitter says logano.

Anonymous said...

Logano has won the fan vote??

Vicky D said...

Yeah, Jeff, it's all about the fans! Geesh.

Daly Planet Editor said...

I think it's clear that Hammond loves working with Krista.

red said...

@trish: so says multiple posts on twitter and (i'm told) mrn. take it for what it is.

kbaskins said...

Bummer. I wouldn't call myself a fan, but I really like AJ's personality and commitment. I was hoping he'd get the vote.

--KarenB

Newracefan said...

I was really hoping to see Reut in the All star race, he deserved it. Lagono's a fan favorite. Can you say Home Depot and money

Haus14 said...

MRN does say it is Logano - so much for the "secret" Fox is trying to keep

Anonymous said...

I saw Logano on Jr's Pit Stop as well. Really wanted the Dinger or Reut.

Best to keep my comments to myself on this one.

Daly Planet Editor said...

Here is some interesting news from Bob Pockrass:

"Suspended Jeremy Mayfield watched Sprint Showdown from atop infield hospitality tent."

Fryer says she is stunned he came to the track tonight.

Might be something going on after all before all this is over.

darbar said...

Those Home Depot employees must have been voting like crazy. I voted for Reuti

Newracefan said...

Evidently Jeremy is at the track, so says Twitter

Haus14 said...

JD, does that mean that he has his hard card back?

red said...

jd; agree about hammond and voda. in my opinion, she has earned her way into the booth next season. class act all the way.

but we'll have to reach some consensus on whether she is to be referred to as "krista" or "voda" going forward.
(the social experiment continues! you guys all OK with being my test subjects for a while longer?)

Newracefan said...

Dar I voted for Reut a lot I think I have click finger, first time I ever tried to stuff a ballot box.

Anonymous said...

Wish Vickers could have fixed that tire/front end for a lap or two..

Haus14 said...

sorry newrace fan, I voted often for Logano. I do live in the Chicago area after all. I was hoping Reut or Dinger got in if Logano didn't

Anonymous said...

Mike Joy could stand to lose a few pounds.

Newracefan said...

Red it's KV less letters to type and she is the only one

red said...

haus20 said...
JD, does that mean that he has his hard card back?

haus, can't he get into the hospitality tent via invitation by a team? or somesuch? i didn't think a hard card was required for that level of access.

darbar said...

NRF, I voted a ton of times for Reuit also. Not at all a Logano fan.

Charlie said...

Not to change the subject but I just looked outside and it is snowing. I live in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

darbar said...

Charlie, I feel your pain. We have a heavy frost warning for tonight. And I just planted my entire garden.

red said...

so, if it's accurate that logano and dinger were both called to the hauler, could it be assumed that dinger came in a close second? i'm hoping so.

Anonymous said...

Snowing, OMG!

Pool Party here tomorrow.

Mike said...

They're flying right through these introductions.

Daly Planet Editor said...

Um.....what is snow? :)

Breaking news in progress btw...

Vicky D said...

Charlie & Darbar it was in the 80's and sunny earlier today here in Houston.

Daly Planet Editor said...

Great reporter Dustin Long talked to Jeremy Mayfield. Here is his Twitter message:

"Mayfield denies taking illegal drug ... says not been told by Nasacr what caused positive test ... hints @ legal action."

Wow, that is an awesome tidbit.

kbaskins said...

That's *really* annoying music in the background of the introductions.

--KarenB

Newracefan said...

DMO better than the drums in the past. Didn't they use to introduce the crew by name in the past?

Vicky D said...

Hubby likes the music but I think the drums are too loud.

Charlie said...

If logano is the vote winner it will be interesting to see how the crowd of fans at the track react. Will they be surprised to?

Dmo said...

Newracefan said...
DMO better than the drums in the past. Didn't they use to introduce the crew by name in the past?"

I seem to remember that being the case.
-D

bevo said...

I thought that if you were suspended by NASCAR you couldn't be anywhere inside the track. Remember Knauss in the RV in the parking lot outside the track a few years ago?

Karen said...

Maybe Logano and AJ tied and both will be in.

Karen said...

You mean to tell me Mayfield doesn't even know what he tested positive for?

Anonymous said...

Appears the Mayfield thing is getting more ugly. Now is not the time to be cocky if you want to race in the future

darbar said...

Vicki, it's supposed to be 30 tonight. It's May for God's sake

Mike said...

I also seem to recall Mike Joy would do the introductions...they've changed this all-around. Probably have to with the main event being 100 laps now.

Vicky D said...

Thrill for BK and crew!

red said...

huh. so mayfield's now saying he wasn't told what the illegal drug was? and did that tidbit come from atop the hospitality tent? what happened to a press statement friday and earlier today? why wait until just before the all-star race tonight?

sorry -- sounds like a PR battle being attempted here. if, in fact, he wasn't told at the results when he was offically suspended, has he subsequently asked for the results and been refused? does he really not know even today?

something's just not right here.

(and that "band" isn't adding anything -- the mike balance is all outta whack.)

Charlie-ty for the clarification earlier in the day about 2 groups of cars...and I feel your pain. Frost warnings here in SE MI tonite-sorry about the "s" word.
JD-you can be a cruel man at times..:) Snow is awful white stuff from the sky..
As for this mess they are doing on Speed at the moment-could these people LOOK like they could be more disinterested?? Good grief...

Anonymous said...

wow I must say I like the way speed is handling intros,

I seem to recall a few years back, possibly when FX had the race, that they'd go through and announce every crew member by name/position. While it was nice to give the guys their 15 mins of fame, it took forever!!!

darbar said...

Lots of boos for Shrubbie. Love the fact that they give the crew their props

Dot said...

@ red, I think we should call her KV or Krista.

I didn't miss much during dinner. I'm here to end now.

I thought Jeremy couldn't be anywhere near the track. The plot thickens.

Anonymous said...

Jeremy knows NASCAR isn't going to talk publicly about the drugs he was taking. He is free to lie to the media all he wants to.

red said...

anon@8:44: excellent point. thanks for reminding us of that reality.

and i like last year's drum intros much better as well. wish they'd intro the crews by name: it's one of the only times these guys get recognized by name for fans.

(and the sprint reps REALLY don't belong in the team moment at all!)

Vicky D said...

Nascar will end up on damage control after this Mayfield story.

Newracefan said...

Mike balance and open air event is not an easy task, I still like the band better than the drums.

Other topic How can Jeremy not have been told what he tested postitive for, that's just ridiculous.

Lou said...

the music is too loud

Anonymous said...

Does not NASCAR have a legal department for something other than tv contracts & lawsuit defense? Jeremy should have been told exactly what he tested positive for.

Sounds like a lot of mess ups to go around.
I see another lawsuit in the future against NASCAR.

darbar said...

Go Matty. A fellow Badger !!!!

Nascar will end up on damage control after this Mayfield story.

wait! were they ever OFF damage control? did i miss that moment? rats.

Daly Planet Editor said...

Hey, I do kind of miss the high school kids with the drums. That was always fun to watch.

Newracefan said...

I think the people with the team might be contest winners not Sprint reps but not sure

Much better mix on the music now. Either that, or I'm getting used to it. :-)

darbar said...

Ric Flair??? What does he have to do with Nascar??

Haus14 said...

Does Brad K really have a crew member named Kyle Petty? That was one of the names that popped up during his team intros.

Anonymous said...

@#%#%^& and some other words

Vicky D said...

we're waiting!

Mike said...

Were those boos or whoooos for Logano?

Anonymous said...

Interesting NASCAR chooses to associate themselves with Ric Flair, someone from an industry famous (or infamous) for their rampant drug abuse.

Anonymous said...

Rick Flair intros JoLo - well if thats not both ends of the age spectrum - I don't know what is

The J said...

i highly doubt that many fans voted for logano, most likely a whole bunch from home depot or something lol

If I had a nickel for every email that asked if Brian France also had to get drug tested I would be on my own private island right now.

bevo said...

Well Stewart and Jr's cameras were live for a couple of minutes, very dark though

darbar said...

Didn't think Logano was that popular. I really thought it would Dinger, considering his wife was in a bikini this afternoon

kbaskins said...

So if Mayfield doesn't know what he tested positive for, how does he know it was a prescription drug combined with some OTC drug?

--KarenB

Anonymous said...

JD--you weren't kidding when you said this Jeremy mess was going to get ugly! I can't believe they're not telling him what he tested positive for! AMAZING!

Guess those 300K+ THD employees have been busy voting in JoLo.

I will be VERY interested in seeing the actually "fan" voting.

Seems to me that this was as rigged as rick flares wrestling days :)

Mike said...

Would I be wrong in wondering if whatever it was they found Mayfield had used had something to do with some sort of team's sponsorship, or a NASCAR sponsorship. Didn't Mayfield used to drive the 360 OTC car? Maybe he had some leftovers from that that didn't pass the test.

Haus14 said...

I would be ticked off if I had to sit through an entire race drenched in beer!

Vicky D said...

I never even heard of Ric Flair and don't care for wrestling I think they should have chosen someone else.

bevo said...

@KarenB- There you go using logic again ;)

Anonymous said...

great thunderstorms starting back up here in Tampa.

@bevo: i've refreshed and what i'm getting is the "coming up live from charlotte 9 PM" screen. is that what you're seeing as well?

Anonymous said...

Maybe the people who voted in JoLo were taking the same thing as Mayfield?

Vicky D said...

Jojaye or a personality test!

bevo said...

@Mike- 360OTC left a lot of people high and dry. Doubt anyone with NASCAR would be looking out for them.

Karen, I have a feeling I know exactly what he is going to say.

1 - Here is the legal prescription I was taking for X problem.

2 - Here is the OTC I took for my sinus issues.

3 - Here is my own test from a different professional lab with the results.

4 - Now tell me why I am suspended.

kbaskins said...

@bevo: Sorry. :-)

If it's true that NASCAR didn't tell Mayfield what he tested positive for, then sure, he has a right to be cranky.

But I have to wonder why Mayfield didn't come out last weekend (or sometime this week) and say publicly that NASCAR won't release the results to him? Why wait until he's buttonholed by a report at a race?

Something's not adding up here.
