Hope JJ doesn't run away with this entire thing.

Hopefully Race Buddy will work fine in a couple weeks when TNT takes over I enjoyed it last year.

Tracy D said...

I am really tired of those WRECKED ads.

Vicky D said...

If you click on the car, it's full screen that's when I feel like I'm driving the car, although I have to minimize to post.

Anonymous said...

WOW! RB seems to be epic fail tonight. Very hit and miss for everyone. I have it working fine here and am checking back and forth with Smoke. Don't have the audio on as I have Smoke on Trackpass

@Dot--TY! I think it sticks out because I thought it was so funny!

ANON 9:02 said...

I can not belive I did not retain that nugget from Mark Martin from the 360 show...Again Thank You!!!!

By the way...nice race for the lead...COT Rocks!

Jack from PA said...

C'mon 10 lap shootout... I'm somewhat optimistic but so far it looks just like last year which was an absolute snoozer.

Losing satellite reception isn't helping, either.

darbar said...

How can 3 Hendrick cars run so great and the 88 is so stinky

Daly Planet Editor said...

Guys, did the RaceBuddy cameras get sorted out?

darbar said...

Not for me, JD. I gave up.

Anonymous said...

RaceBuddy doesn't help to watch the race. I can't follow it since I don't have speed. Back to the nascar live leaderboard. At least I'll have an idea of what's happening on to the whole field.

Daly Planet Editor said...

The Turner guys never told me it was going to be in-car views only.

Why would anyone want that at night? Geez, the one time bumper cam would be fun.

Vicky D said...

Maybe Jr's car has the cast off parts instead of brand new stuff that's why he's not up to speed with the other Hendrick cars.

Lou said...

Yes JD, the cams are ok here.

Dot said...

@ darbar, we know it's not the equipment. Team communication is a big thing. Jeff/Steve and Jimmie/Chad. I can't explain Mark/Alan. JR/JR just not getting it done.

bevo said...

Yes cameras got sorted out for me, sound however is still in and out with both FF and IE

Anonymous said...

I gave up. Pix tiny here. Turned its sound and my sound up all the way on Stewart. Just engine sounds.

red said...

@jd: i have all four, both as mosaic and individually.

still trying to dink with the screen size: nothing suggested has worked so far for me.

it does lag behind tv but it will be valuable when they go to commercial.

Anonymous said...

Wow All star buddy is awesome, specially when you have the cables to hook your laptop up to the big screen, been watching the race from #24 with MRN in the background

as a side note MRN was totally confused about the rules, advertising a "competition caution" at lap 25
oops!

Tracy D said...

Darbar, it seems to me the variable for the 88 is the crew chief/driver combo. But I don't see Jr functioning without Tony Jr.

Jack from PA said...

I was hopeful for Junior but he lasted what, 6 laps? Hopefully with Rick at the track now he'll see that a change is desperately needed and now.

Anonymous said...

@Sophia--that's why I never paid for the cable In Car they use to have. I wasn't paying $200 for one view and then have virtually no audio. If the teams weren't chatting there was nothing and short of the leaderboard and scroll updates if you didn't have another TV on or MRN/PRN, you had no idea what was going on.

Dot said...

JD, can you find out what happened to All Star Buddy?

bevo said...

This Buddy seems to be about 30 seconds behind Speed on DirecTV - TNT Buddy was only 2 or 3 seconds behind on TNT last year

Labbie said...

@Red,

If you double-click the video it should go full-screen for you. Then to go back to the window either double-click again or press escape.

darbar said...

Jr's head and heart just isn't in racing anymore. I don't know why. Early last season he was the best Hendrick racer, but now, he's nothing but a field filler.

red said...

@trish: agreed. the sound is engine sound only which is sorta interesting b/c i can listen to the engine as the car runs a lap (entrance, middle, exit, etc.)

so, i've minimized it and only pull it up on commercials.

Jack from PA said...

bevo,

Whenever I ran RaceBuddy last year it continually slowed down more and more if I didn't update it until I had to refresh the entire page and it was sort of sync'd up but not for long.

Lou said...

Racebuddy I agree it would have been nice to see something else besides in car cams. but the picture is clear. audio is clear just that it is track sound only expected driver/crew chief audio also.

Vicky D said...

I'm on Jr's car, but all I hear is car engine noise, not talking. Boy they are all stretched out now.

Anonymous said...

The only sound I hear on Race Buddy is the engine. Is this right?

Jack from PA said...

Man JJ looks great for a 10-lap shootout. Kurt and Jeff will chip away after about 10 or 12 laps but if the final segment is 10 laps what good is that? I hope it gets more exciting... I'm looking at a speed shot of 21 cars running single file.

Ken-Michigan said...

Pit Stop coverage was very lazy attempt.

Absolutely no preparation...and THEY KNEW there would be pit stops at Lap 25.

Daly Planet Editor said...

Dot, running fine for me with four cams and natural sound from the cars. No driver audio on this feed tonight.

Double click on the video and it will go full screen.

bevo said...

@Jack From Pa- I didn't have that problem last year if I recall correctly but I didn't use it that much

Tracy D said...

No mention of the Roush cars. Childress and HEndrick, that's it.

It's not too thrilling right now.

Karen said...

I would have much preferred audio instead of video only. Nothing like TNT.

Anonymous said...

Now I can see! Thanks Dot

Ken-Michigan said...

JD-

Just wondering.... I thought we were really supposed to comment on the TV coverage of the race.

What's all this RaceBuddy stuff ??

Is it simply a fact that the TV coverage has gotten SO BAD....that people would rather watch racebuddy ??

red said...

Labbie said...
"@Red,

If you double-click the video it should go full-screen for you. Then to go back to the window either double-click again or press escape."

yep: tried that -- froze the screen. closed the window, re-opened, waited for full buffering to finish, tried again, froze again.

plus, as bevo notes, this is further behind than race buddy on tnt was last year.

i concede defeat.

bevo said...

Man it looks like Smoke has the whole track to himself

Jack from PA said...

bevo,

I'm kind of new here. Last year I pretty much read JD's comments but over the past couple months I'm commenting more and more so I cannot say I do recall how it performed last year. That's how it worked for me last year on two different internet connections but who knows how it'll work this year?

Anonymous said...

Oops guess I can't see. It was JD that said double-click

bevo said...

@red- Get a faster processor and more RAM :)

Jeff said...

The only good thing I can say about tonight so far, no Chris Meyere!

Daly Planet Editor said...

Ken,

RaceBuddy is the TV coverage of the event. Just delivered down a different pipeline.

Last season TNT used the online RaceBuddy as an active companion to the live TV coverage.

It certainy is an interesting time to watch the various video and audio options come at the NASCAR fan.

Dot said...

@ trish, you're funny. I was wondering what you were talking about. :)

red said...

@bevo; yeah,it ALWAYS comes down to more RAM, doesn't it?!? once the youngest daughter gets her own laptop and all her cr . . . uh, "stuff" leaves my laptop, i suspect i'll be surprised by how much more efficent the laptop runs for me.

red said...

Jack from PA said...

@ Jeff,

I agree whole-heartedly!!!! And I only saw Digger once so far I believe

kbaskins said...

Biffle got a penalty for too fast entering.

--KarenB

Anonymous said...

Why no Chris Meyers? In the past he announced the fan vote and/or the inversion.

Charlie said...

Race buddy did not have the delay that all star buddy does.

bevo said...

@red - Especially if there's P2P stuff on it, that eats up a lot of resources

Kyle said...

Wow, this All-Star Buddy is terrible. 1) its about a trillion years behind 2) it goes out about every 20 minutes or so and displays a general error. Then I have to refresh the page.

So, I have closed it out. It just isn't worth the hassle. Hopefully this isn't what this year's Race Buddy is going to be like. Hopefully they won't make any changes over the Race Buddy. Keep it the same as last year, it was pretty much perfect.

But the All-Star Buddy is terrible.

Sophia said...

lost interest in RB..I wanna see the cars..gonna log off for a bit.

can't keep up with comments tonight!!

:)

Daly Planet Editor said...

Mikey and Chad Knaus are going to be on the Monday TWIN. Be fun to hear what Chad has to say.

bevo said...

Not much info out of the pit reporters tonight

red said...

one good aspect of all star buddy is the ability to listen to the driver feathering the throttle while seeing what he sees. you can hear how he enters and exits the corners by listening to the engine.

it's alot like sim racing.

Ken-Michigan said...

Quick weather update :

rain cell forming SW of Charlotte moving NE. Approaching NC / SC border.

might be worth keeping an eye on.

Jack from PA said...

Very enthusiastic booth tonight... probably glad there's not many sponsored promos like the FOX broadcasts. :)

PammH said...

I've seen the Digger cam a few times tonite-didn't add anything to the broadcast, imo.
Also, I live in the boonies. I can't access anything but dial-up. I just have a PC at home..I'm lucky to keep up w/a couple of places during the races, but the TDP is the one I choose most of the time! :)

Vicky D said...

And Red I can tell when Jr let's up just a tad going into the corners. It's almost like when I rode around Atlanta track except I was in a van.

Anonymous said...

I am SW of Charlotte. 50 miles from track. Been pouring for about 15 minutes.

Sophia said...

lost sound on time warner in Ohio too..and pic freeze

JD

Did you see Jenna fryer tweeted allegedly-- the drugs Jeremy took? stickin with his story of last week..prescription he named and OTC he would NOT name.

*sigh* Started to smell of Pete Rose denial years ago unless I am missing a key element

red said...

@vicky d: notice the lag in picking up the throttle again right before exit of the corners? he seems to lay off the throttle earlier in the entrance of the corner then picks it up a scootch later than i anticipated.

so he's slower in and slower off.

Jack from PA said...

Pretty boring racing if you ask me.

Dot said...

@ trish, I'm laughing at your comment. I'm geographically challenged myself. I still point in the wrong direction and I've lived in LV for 16 yrs.

Is this the pattern? You're out first and lead all the laps?

Newracefan said...

Soph it's backwards Script he won't name and ClaritinD. Interesting this really will get messy

Vicky D said...

Red, guess he's slower than the others so that's why he's in 15th spot!

Anonymous said...

Just saw that about the Rx Mayfield won't name. What drug would you take that's a prescription that you don't want the public to know about.

Could it be blue?

Sophia said...

Newracefan

SEE! I said I could not keep up with you guys.

I NEED CHOCOLATE and none in the house....sigh.

major craving..course MRN IS CARRYING the race, I could go out for a quick snack. lol

Jack from PA said...

I read Mayfield's comments... at least he's staying consistent about the Claritin but I still think he could have gone about this in a better way.

Just looked at the weather... hoping the storms that are forming south of Charlotte stay there.

Charlie said...

Wonder how Speed will use Digger during qualifying in coming weeks now that he has shown up on the Speed channel.
Lots of Digger stuff needs to be sold one way or another.

Newracefan said...

Perhaps an antidepressant, which I can understand, with the year he was having before this mess happened and now it's probably doubled

Dot said...

@ trish, that is considered a recreational drug now. You could be right.

red said...

vicky: i think i'm gonna listen to the 24 or the 14 for a while and see if i can hear a difference in how they handle it. but slow in and slow off = slow all around! wonder if it's still rolling on the right front and that's why he's lifting where he is?

(and listening to the engine sound and comparing it to the image is the only thing that i can see is good about all star buddy. the time lag is killing it for me.)

bevo said...

JD,

The link on the Mayfield story by Dustin Long is pretty illuminating - he can't even give a yes or no answer about hiring a lawyer.

Hate to say but I've had friends who had problems and that was one of the recurring themes, can't get a straight answer to a very simple question.

Dmo said...

trish in nc said... What drug would you take that's a prescription that you don't want the public to know about.

Could it be blue?
Could be an anti-depression med, OR, he could be taking Ritalin for adult ADD. In either case, he might not be comfortable talking about either publicly.
-D

Vicky D said...

The drivers who are around 40 and older (Burton & Martin are two that I heard interviewed) are the ones having more of an issue and sympathize with Mayfield's problem than the younger ones. The youngsters don't realize older folks have to take medication just to get through the day.

darbar said...

What about this race doesn't Jimmie understand? It's not like it's his first dance at this track.

darbar said...

The human chicane strikes again. I'm getting so sick of Hornish taking out drivers.

Jack from PA said...

I hope JJ is just joking around with Chad, otherwise he should pay more attention.

Dot said...

@ darbar, they change it up every year.

bevo said...

@darbar- I'll cut JJ some slack, they change the thing every year :)

Jack from PA said...

Damn thunderstorms!!! My reception went out (again)... you guys are my connection with the race for now. Should come back shortly.

Mike said...

The format is all different, though. Obviously Johnson didn't read up on the format before he got in the car. For a few years it was even segments of 25 laps apiece.

I'm actually wondering how many teams are using this as a test session for next week's 600. Or maybe it's the car....but this hasn't been very exciting.

red said...

@darbar: not jj's first dance here but certainly a drastically different dance partner this year!

sometimes, i think they make the all star race rules so confusing that only nascar understands it all. if i were a crew chief, i'd have charts and arrows and lines signifying anything i could just to keep it all straight.

seems unnecessarily complex to me.

darbar said...

With all the hype, Nascar sounded like they were banking on a great race to help their ratings. With a relatively boring race like this, it's sure not going to help things.

bevo said...

@Mike - Every single one of them, especially since there's no testing this year

Jack from PA said...

@ darbar,

I agree. Whatever hopes they had at generating better TV ratings are shot... unless this 10 lap shootout is all they hyped it up to be... then again, this IS the COT.

darbar said...

Hey, did you all watch NN this morning? Apparently, according to King France, a number of drivers have tested positive this season, but they were able to prove the drugs they were taking aren't actually banned drugs.

Haus14 said...

Speed's scoring is messed up...way behind

bevo said...

How many times have we heard any info from the pit reporters tonight?

Anonymous said...

I have to admit as well - this race has not been exciting and more empty seats than normal. What does this say? Stop changing the rules, the cars?

Bring back Humpy!

Dot said...

How would a driver prove that without a list?

Haus14 said...

Darbar, I saw that. It would be nice to get a number on that statement.

glenc1 said...

for some reason the Captain believes in Hornish, nice guy but I just can't figure out why. Took out Biffle (obviously not intentionally.) Greg was calm.

Re Mayfield...you know, he does have a right to his privacy. It's up to him to resolve the controversy, and if he chooses not to be detailed, it will hurt/help him by his own hand...his choice, in other words. I can't say if it's the right or wrong decision, but it's his to make. But it would be hard to make yourself look good by not saying anything.

red said...

random thought about this year's race rules: it must be darned near impossible to get any rhythm with all these artificial cautions and breaks.

(@vicky: the 14 is letting off at about the same point as the 88 in the entrance but seems to be picking it up a tad quicker in the middle, transitioning into the exit.)

Jack from PA said...

@ trish,

I miss Humpy... and the old car too!!!

darbar said...

With all the complaining out in internet land, if a Hendrick car wins this, it's not going to be good for Nascar. Everyone is complaining about the boring racing and the fact that Hendrick cars win just about every race.

Don't you love the speculation by the guys in the booth? OMG, poor Shrubbie.

Vicky D said...

Red, I'm afraid to change drivers so I'm only listening & watching Jr.

Anonymous said...

I do believe that if your Dr. gave NASCAR your list of prescribed meds, they would not pass this on to the media. However if you take this to court.. all your secrets become public. Right?

Anonymous said...

That's what I'm wondering Dot. If others have tested positive and were able to prove otherwise they were told what they tested positive for. So why is Jeremy claiming they won't tell him? And if they can't know what's on the list how are they otherwise to be able to prove their innocence? I swear all of this is a hot mess!

darbar said...

They sure do have a lot of empty seats.

red said...

hey jd? i can't find it right now but did you say earlier that you're going to do a column on the mayfield situation? maybe a recap of what we were told when by whom would be helpful? as often happens, it's all getting muddy now . . .

Mike said...

I swear the only car DW keeps his eyes on is the #18. Outside of talking about who's leading, that's all he talks about. LOL

Daly Planet Editor said...

So, all this hype and TV coverage is basically going to come down to this little shootout.

Shrubbie caught Jr-itis missing his pit. But at least Shrub has an excuse with almost crashing with the 48.

Interesting that Shrub is talking about working on things for the 600

Mike said...

Just as I figured....Kyle just let the cat out of the bag....they're working on things for the 600 next week.

red said...

hmmm. if the 88 is having a camber "moment," that might explain what we're hearing from his engine. needs to pull off a bit b/c the car isn't biting enough for him.

man, they all look so wiped out tonight. so far, good Q&A from the pit road crew. props to the drivers for speaking with them right now.

Jack from PA said...

You'd think $1 million is a big enough incentive to go all out this week, rather than using it for a test session for the longest race of the year, where you have the most amount of time to fix whatever's wrong with your car.

red said...

@red & VickyD- You're questions about Jr were answered right there :)

Instead of letting Tony Jr make the calls on the car he argues with him about it causing confusion.

Just my two cents...

Vicky D said...

This is crazy that these drivers can get out of their cars!

Dot said...

@ red, yeah, the drivers look all shiny. The humidity must be killer.

Mike said...

Gotta give Krista and Hammond credit! They're still hyping that the drivers aren't going to hold anything back during these last 10 laps.

bevo said...

@Jack- The info is worth more than $1 million. Sad to say but that money isn't that big to those guys in the long run

The J said...

this better be an exciting finish, or i want a refund on the time i spent watching today and on the countless "all star memories" the last few months

Vicky D said...

Pit road should have had an extra pit crew member to buff the shines off the drivers before they are interviewed. And another thing, let's hope they don't have that crazy confetti in victory lane tonight either.

Dot said...

@ the J, ditto.

Ken-Michigan said...

Real yawner of an All Star event.

Could the 10 lap final segment save the night for the fans.

At the end of this year, we're going to hear a lot of complaining about the lack of competition, and that can only be directed towards the C.O.T.

COT is way too sensitive to changes, either you hit the set up or you're way off. That's not very good for the fans.

darbar said...

Bevo, you're right. When these guys are pulling in more than $15 million a year, this little million doesn't mean that much.

Mike said...

Yes....even though they play in the hype before the race, the drivers are trying to learn things for next week's 600....and if they end up winning the $1 million, it's a bonus.

red said...

can i just say: that's another reason why i love nascar! in what other sport do you get interviews with the athletes in the middle of the event?

@trish: sure looked like the 24 got squirrely there. i'd be glad to place blame on the 18 for cauing that but i'm not convinced it was his fault.

that being said: what i dislike about young mr busch is what i perceive to be his total and complete disregard for anyone else on the track and their safety. if he wants to jeopardize his own safety, have at it. but sometimes, he is just reckless and he puts others in situations that they didn't have to be in.
