Live Blogging The Sprint Cup Series Race In Darlington On Fox

ATTENTION NASCAR TV VIEWERS: NASCAR on Fox coverage will begin on SPEED is you have a baseball game in-progress in your area.

The weather is hot, the track is slick and even the veterans had problems in practice and qualifying. It is Saturday night in Darlington, SC.

Chris Myers leads the NASCAR on Fox gang onto the air at 7PM from the Hollywood Hotel. He will be joined by Darrell Waltrip and Jeff Hammond for the pre-race show.

Update: Driver Jeremy Mayfield has been suspended for violating NASCAR's drug policy as a result of a random drug test that was done after the Richmond race. This should be a big topic on the pre-race show, but NASCAR does not disclose if this is a medication that is on the banned list or a recreational drug associated with illegal drug use.

It will be Mike Joy calling the action once the race coverage is underway. Again this week, Joy worked a very long Friday for SPEED that involved many live hours on the air covering practice and qualifying. Now, he faces the task of keeping the excitement level high on a track that has featured very little passing in the COT.

Waltrip and Larry McReynolds are the Fox analysts while Steve Byrnes, Matt Yocum, Krista Voda and Dick Berggren will cover pit road.

Fox has been struggling under the weight of a very heavy sponsorship load. It will be interesting on an action-packed track like Darlington to see how the frequent commercials and sponsor mentions affect the coverage. Digger will also have a presence, from the pre-race cartoon to the frequent commercial inserts.

This track makes great pictures with the Musco lighting and the low-level cameras really conveying the excitement of the sport and the speed of this track. In-cars are effective, but the action happens so quickly that the Director can easily get burned by lingering on the shot.

Tempers have been running a little short recently on the track, so this is really a potential cocktail for trouble between drivers. Scott Speed did not qualify, so his sponsor put him in the Joe Nemechek machine for an undisclosed amount of cash. This week, the Nemechek car will certainly have enough tires to get beyond he first gas run.

This post will serve to host your comments about the Sprint Cup Series race from Darlington on Fox. To add your TV-related opinion, just click on the comments button below. This is a family-friendly website, please keep that in mind when posting.

  1. SPEED and SPEEDtv.com certainly did a lousy job of covering the Mayfield suspension. We got Hermie joking around in the infield while most of the fan boards and Tweeters were breaking the suspension story. It will be interesting to see if Fox covers it tonight.

  2. This will be interesting for all to see how the network(s) play this out. I only wish the best for Mayfield and the team members in getting their situations on track and straightened out, regardless of what the substance was.

  4. The Braves game is done but the Rays are crushing the Red Sox 13-5 but only in the bottom of the sixth. Hopefully the pre-race show will be put on Speed again.

  5. @ Jo from SC--I'm thinking they will cover this like the proverbial blanket--but like anything in TV, stuff happens.

As the Kevin Grubb story reminds us--none of this is any good. Stuman714 has the right sentiments.

    One chance--and one only.

  6. Ok John Roberts just announced that the pre-race will be on SPEED

    ReplyDelete
  7. Anon 6:33PM, is that ironic or what? I hope we hear from Jeremy on Wind Tunnel Sunday night.

He and Shana are not exactly the types who have been known for recreational illegal drug uses.

If this was something on the banned list that he took as a medication for a medical condition, he should get that out as soon as possible.

Best of luck to him on this issue.

  8. Anyone now watching anything other than the Red Sox game anywhere?

Help us keep track of these network switches.

  9. nascar on fox pre-race show will air on speed, I believe it's an early green flag (7:20), so it looks like the boston market will miss seeing the start on FOX, sorry to thsoe without speed... why can't these baseball games start an hour earlier? it's just as stupid as ESPN trying to squeeze college football games into a 3 hour window

    ReplyDelete
  10. my phillies are done, cops now on fox -- looks to be no conflict here in philly/comcast-land.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Albuquerque is clear of baseball and currently has an infomercial on.

    ReplyDelete
  12. SPEED did a H-O-R-R-I-B-L-E job at covering the conference. First of all, they should have known that the press conference was for a cup driver who will be suspended for failing a drug test.

Second of all, I was watching the media-only stream of the press conference and it was halfway through before speed even went to it. And, speed didn't show much of it. They, as always, did a lousy job at covering a press conference.

  14. Still in baseball here in Detroit, so will just keep recording on SPEED and flipping to FOX to see when to jump my recording back over.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Unless you are seeing baseball live, you will get NASCAR on Fox as usual.

The SPEED broadcast is for the folks who are watching the Red Sox play Tampa Bay.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Outside Philly we have Cops on Fox so no problems with BB here

  17. hey jd? sprint cup girl has a mic and looks to be doing a stand-up behind hamlin and his mom. what's up with that? i thought she was just there "for ambiance."

  18. red,

They have a whole Sprint network thing going including. Both Ms. Sprints are very involved in the media.

  19. Doesn't SPEED only have one national feed though? I'm just guessing, but they'll probably have the race on there in all areas due to technical limitations, though only until the baseball ends which shouldn't be too long after 7PM.

    ReplyDelete
  20. SPEED will carry the start of the FOX coverage

    ReplyDelete
  21. There appears to be no baseball game on KSWB FOX 5 San Diego so I should get the FOX pre-race show on 2 channels, SPEED and FOX

    ReplyDelete
  22. sonic,

It will go everywhere, but it is up only to cover the Fox markets that are in baseball.

In the other Fox markets, there will be a simulcast like last week.

    Sorry for the language barrier!

    ReplyDelete
  23. I have two Fox channels, one from Marquette, Mich. in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and the other is from Green Bay, Wisconsin and both have the Sox game on.

    THANK you.

Sorry for those NOT getting speed.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Nice touch, the baseball announcers did a promo for Darlington with the correct graphic at the top of the hour.

    ReplyDelete
  29. duh, I thanked SPEED but missed them saying pre show was coming on...just got a sandwich delivered from Roomie. my bad

    ReplyDelete
  30. Yep, it just sounded you were saying otherwise. Here, I've got hockey recording on one DVR tuner, SPEED on the other, and I'm flipping to FOX every couple minutes to see if the baseball's over so I can switch channels!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Ball game on both my feeds (Seattle and Detroit).

  36. Am I the only one that is getting the race on both FOX and Speed?

    ReplyDelete
  37. wow! they sped over the mayfield suspension faster than i could have believed possible! myers read a one or two sentence statement and then said something to the effect of "but now back to this historic race and race track."

guess it's getting swept under the proverbial rug tonight. not sure how i feel about that right now: want the race to be the focus but sure wish they'd given some time to this story.

first digger plug: time for the mute button. i can always read the closed-captioning if needed.

    ReplyDelete
  38. hey nrf? there's the "strip search" lawsuit commercial again! gonna be a long night, indeed.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Ive got racing coverage on both speed and fox.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Wow, that was a fast mention of the Mayfield thing, I wonder how Manny Ramirez suspension was handled by Fox on the pre show for Baseball. I really think Fax should have explored the Mayfield thing more.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Talking 'bout Mark... awesome to hear he's running full time in 2010

    ReplyDelete
  42. I have a feeling that skimming over the Mayfield news may have something to do with them not being on nationally on FOX yet, hopefully there'll be more talk of it once the rest of the FOX stations join the broadcast.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Here in Indy on DirecTV we still have paint drying with TB vs Boston...........ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZz......oh, excuse me, did you say something?

    ReplyDelete
  44. anon@7:05: i have fox pre-race AND speed pre-race on the individual channels. also, speed just ran a simpsons commercial.

    curiouser and curiouser.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Speaking of Indy, Helio Castroneves got the pole for the 500.

    ReplyDelete
  46. ok, so now i have fox on both fox and speed.

    i am so confused, jd!

    ReplyDelete
  47. Yes, congrats to Helio on coming from the courts to the pole in the course of the last month. I'm not a big Penske fan, though I have admirable respect for the man, but Helio deserves it.

    ReplyDelete
  48. speaking of Helio, some INDY column/blog listed yesterday's speeds as Roscoe 225 and Helio 239mph!!!

Needless to say the latter turned out to be a major TYPO. sheesh.

I don't remember seeing Jeff G's mom before.

    ReplyDelete
  49. red because Speed is using Fox's speed albeit with a 5 second delay

    ReplyDelete
  50. Red Sox game just ended Rays won 14-5

    ReplyDelete
  51. ah, that made me sad seeing Kevin Grubb..they glossed over that, too.
WOW, do they think we can't deal with SERIOUS STUFF during NASCAR?

    Tragic ..condolences to Grubb's family.

    ReplyDelete
  52. red, it's because some markets still have baseball on, so SPEED is simulcasting the FOX coverage. The last baseball game just ended, it should fold into FOX at the next commercial break.

    ReplyDelete
  53. red,

Cable TV and broadcast TV are very different.

Fox is cablecasting the pre-race show nationwide on SPEED.

They are doing this because in many major markets across the country, the local Fox station is still showing live regional baseball.

In some markets, the baseball game they watched (Braves) is over. Those markets are seeing the pre-race on both SPEED and their Fox local station.

    Got it?

    ReplyDelete
  54. anon@7:14 abd sonicad: thanks for the clarification.

boy, did they sanitize the grubb suicide. and since when was he "still active" in nascar? pathetic.

    ReplyDelete
  55. The FOX fluff has gotten really bad this year.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I think they're just glossing over things tonight because this is an abbreviated pre-race show, especially with the Fox side of things.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Still yet to join on FOX in Detroit, in extended commercials to catch up on local breaks I assume...

    ReplyDelete
  58. got the anthem two weeks in a row...

    ReplyDelete
  59. Howdy Pardners!

Skipping the pre-race stuff. Switching between the Ranges-White Sox and the hockey game. I'll tune in when the flag drops.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Fox in Cincy just joined race at beginning of Anthem after commercials.

    ReplyDelete
  61. FOX needs to work on changing the script as things develop. Major problem with them pretending as if big news didnt come down an hour ago.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Tampa just went to race on Fox. Hi all.

    ReplyDelete
  63. I sure do wish they had taken a moment and updated Kyle Petty's 15th annual charity ride.

    ReplyDelete
  64. @david: i completely agree. guess this is a story that just didn't happen -- at least until tomorrow or later in the week sometime.

as i say: not sure how i feel about it b/c i want the race to take priority here. but it does seem pretty silly to have just read that two-sentence blip and then move on as if it were unimportant.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Why give an update on Kyle. Had to get the verizon check list in. duh.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Red its simple. Start the race with a serious tone, mention the news and get feedback from Jeff and DW. Its not hard. Then get back to the pre-race you had planned. You can hold a segment for sometime mid race during a caution if neccesary. This has been a major problem for all the networks lately. The ability to be fluid around a given situation. Even SPEED bobbled that during Raceday

    ReplyDelete
  67. Bevo if you skipped pre race and RaceDay? do you know about Jeremy?

    ReplyDelete
  68. Script revisions going on right now for NN tomorrow. BSPN is going to have fun with this Jeremy story.

    ReplyDelete
  69. jd, with the takeover by boston ventures, kyle petty's presence in nascar was determined. sad. woulda been nice if petty motorsports had found a home for him in that company.

    ReplyDelete
  70. @red, david, JD et al-

To quote Mr David Hill "Tough".
    / a quote I will always remember ;)

    ReplyDelete
  71. I only have the race on 'cause I'm waiting to see a new commercial with my driver.

Not in for the long haul.

    ReplyDelete
  72. red,

Kyle is the lead analyst for TNT and is up next when the Fox guys finish.

    ReplyDelete
  73. @nrf-
Yep, was listening to Sirius as I was running errands around town.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Script tonight:

Stewart wins, Hornish scores a top 5, Shrubby misses pit road under green flag stops which costs him the race.

Oops, did I just leak that out?!

lol...lets see how this plays out

    ReplyDelete
  75. @david: and that's exactly what frustrates me so much. maybe we'll see something later in the broadcast, especially if we get a sries of yellow or (god forbid!) a red flag.

    but i seriously doubt it.
the need to stick with the script is just too strong.

    ReplyDelete
  76. The only good FOX broadcast is a MUTED FOX broadcast (though can here a bit 'cause it's on in another room).

    "red,

yeah, but not quite the same as having a place in the company that bears your family name. not by a long shot. still so sad to me.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Thanks JD, now the rodent is waving a flag

    ReplyDelete
  90. Sophia, I thought Fox did well with the Grubb tribute. It's a sad but awkward situation, and I think it's best to just say, it happened, and we remember him.

As for Mayfield...I don't think there's any more to investigate until/unless Jeremy comes forth, and I hope he does. Hope it turns out to be a stupid mistake with medication (also, remember all the 'supplements' that have stuff in them they sometimes don't have on the label.) But I don't know how much more Fox should be expected to say without more info.

Was it me or was the baseball switch abrupt? I mean, I wasn't staring at the screen, and suddenly SPEED is on regular programming.

    ReplyDelete
  91. I think Annie dilutes the commls of the other sponsors.

Why no Digger cartoon tonight? Is it because of baseball running late?

    ReplyDelete
  92. JD

How dare you ask for Digger! ;-)

Uno memento, por favor, he will be on plenty. meow ouch, hiss.
Now female type digger waving flag at intro.

I am tweeting, watching, blogging and whippped up a small cake in the oven. Somethin's gotta give.

Wow, Mikey spun again? But didn't hit.

With all the commercials I will have no problem whipping up icing later.

    sigh

    ReplyDelete
  93. Very good broadcast so far. I skipped the pre-race show (nothing useful there anyway) and so far from what I've seen, there's been a bunch of looking at battles around the track, not just follow-the-leader. Glad to see that the booth's views have an input in the coverage, seeing how DW pointed out potential trouble back in the field.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Glen1

Thanks I was gonna mention the Grubb tribute.

True with suicide it's MOST extra painful for family, did not expect details but thought they MIGHT have mentioned his age and tragic early death..but yea, I see the awkwardness. :( heartbreaking

    ReplyDelete
  95. TV news is a mess right now. From the fake swine flu to over-stated weather reports, things are out of control.

If they keep this up, they may well be joining newspapers as dinosaurs.

    ReplyDelete
  96. If you ban someone you cannot call them an active driver. Grubb was banned. Shame that it ended like that. I wasn't a fan of the wreckfest of his driving but it's always sad when a life ends like that.

Maybe just maybe. I know its a low chance. They aren't covering Mayfield until Mayfield responds. Like was previously put maybe its just a simple mis on his part.

Just a shame but you create your own reality.

The starting grid scroll was pretty cool even had indicator of who had to go to the back.

Judging by the responses the past few days. There are WAY more trolls then I expected on this blog. Actually kind of impressive.

    Interesting coverage of pit stops!!

well, we've been asking them to stop the four-box pit stops so they went to two.

guess they can only work in multiples of two.
    or something.

"lots of different strategies on pit road . . ." too bad we didn't hear about them, huh?

    ReplyDelete
  98. Alex, they are off to a great start on the event coverage.

Not soooo much for the pre-race.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Jim, they come and go like the weather!

    ReplyDelete
  100. JD

agree about media. Between the constant HAMTHRAX updates and local weather guys showing off triple Doppler for storms HOURS away and more than a sprinkle, insanity.

Oh great, now a neighbor is starting up a chainsaw. sigh.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Isn't Kahne using that new engine tonight?

    ReplyDelete
  102. @jimbacca: agreed about the grubb mention. he wasn't active and he wasn't active b/c of his drug abuse. as tragic as his suicide was, it is the reality. to try and present it otherwise is, at some level, dishonest.

    ReplyDelete
  103. No Burger King square-booty shaking so far tonight.

    ReplyDelete
  104. Big storm in my neck of the woods. Power went out, then when it came back, it kept jerking off and off.

    Hope the power holds up.

So awful about Mayfield and the two crew members on other teams. Poor Kevin Grubb.

  115. Get that Digger crap off the screen Fox....

    ReplyDelete

    Mayfield's statement on drug suspension.

  127. @dot: maybe it's the bottom of the catch fence? but that's usually "woven" into the bottom of the fence, not just out there like that.

    ReplyDelete
  128. From David Newton -

    None can be appealed.

NASCAR spokesman Jim Hunter said alcohol was not involved in Mayfield's positive test. He said for Mayfield to return he will have to follow a program determined by Dr. David Black, NASCAR's substance abuse policy administrator out of Nashville, Tenn.

    ReplyDelete
  129. Let me know if you have Raceview problems, I will yell at the Turner guys if needed.

    ReplyDelete
  130. RE Mayfield comment. The nurse in me says BS; the Nascar fan says good luck and hope your right

    ReplyDelete
  131. Also this -

Just days after the Daytona 500, one of Mayfield's crew members became the first person punished under NASCAR's new drug policy for a failed test. Mayfield fired Paul Chodora after he was suspended by NASCAR.

    ReplyDelete
  132. I'm suprised at my 'loyalty' this week, as I still have FOX on (sound OFF).

    ReplyDelete
  133. Track fences have continuous cables that run down the fence and push the car back onto the track.

They look like the arresting gear on an aircraft carrier. Steel cables that are woven and continuous.

    ReplyDelete
  134. Gilliland S&P is odd. TRG is big in other forms of racing. Didn't think it would lower itself to this.
Prism? Surprised they let Dave run that long tonight. It was thier Nationwide program that really brought S&P to the front of everyone's attention.
Marlin.. Funny that the owner took digs at the 'old drivers' in his interviews after the win for not wanting to run the whole race.
Some its a means to an end. Bite it now to race more later. But MANY its a means to take in cash. Make the provisional in that group by laps run not by events pretended at.

    Coverage has been decent today.

    ReplyDelete
  135. JD, I'm still locked out of raceview. This always happens during speedweeks when they run the free trial, and now I saw the ad last week, that they're allowing free 10 minute trials, so I have a feeling they have overused their bandwidth again.. let me know if you hear anything (or anyone else on here if your using it and it works!)

    ReplyDelete
  136. @nrf-

I agree, the tests these days are very sophisticated especially after the second sample. His only hope is a breakdown in the chain of custody.

  142. Bevo, he has no hope on that front but if the Nascar Doc agrees it's a combo problem, it can be addressed and he can go through some type of "rehab" and come back, they'll never say the test was wrong just think of the precedent that would set.

  143. This is perhaps the best Fox telecast in many races. Nice blend, no problems and nothing being hyped.

  144. "Daly Planet Editor said...
Track fences have continuous cables that run down the fence and push the car back onto the track."

yeah, but this didn't look like that. it was a steel cable running parallel to the top of the wall and moving as the cars raced past.

by "run down," do you mean perpendicular to the top and bottom edges of the fence? as if a seam running from top to bottom? or do you mean running parallel along the entire length of the fence?

usually the bottom edge of the fence is, i thought, a steel cable that looks as if it is woven into the fencing and then anchored. this cable wasn't in any way attached to either the fence or the wall. that's what i found curious.

the nerd in me gets hung up in that sort of trivia.

  145. Dang it for Marcos.

Mikey's on fire. Not a good race for MWR. :(

    ReplyDelete
  146. not to beat a dead horse but consider this :

Mike Joy "TURN 3!!! CAR ON FIRE!!! MICHAEL WALTRIP"

Jerry Punch: "Oh and it looks like a few flames out the back of the 55 car as he slides into turn 3, and the caution comes for 4th time tonight... coming up on ESPN sunday night baseball...."

  147. They use Mass Spectrometer for the drug testing ... So, they know exactly what Jeremy's sample comprised of ...

The test uses specific gravity ... and can tell the difference between Vicodin, Advil & poppy seeds (from a bagel) ...

    ReplyDelete
  148. Wow, I could actually HEAR the flames in the Surround rear speakers. Scary!

    ReplyDelete
  149. We were late getting in from dinner outing but the race coverage is pretty good tonight. They are even mentioning the cars in the garage area.

    ReplyDelete
  150. Interesting the different reaction when the "spectacular" event involves someone they know versus just random fans in the stands.

    ReplyDelete
  151. @ tiamats.., to expand on your comment. They had to increase the numbers on the poppy seed tests to keep them from testing positive.

Guilty or not, just having that cloud over you can't be good. Like being accused of wife beating or child abuse.

  152. bevo, did you hear Joy apologize for that on Friday?

    ReplyDelete
  153. I know the night is young, yet, its nice to actually be able to see the race. not a bunch of camera tricks & cartoons & bumper camms. MRN talking to Mikey - no reason as to what happened.

    ReplyDelete
  154. jd, i still haven't heard what mike joy said on friday. can you recap his position?

    ReplyDelete
  155. JD,

Sorry, I didn't. That's why I was so outraged. I've always respected him ands just couldn't believe his actions during that incident

    ReplyDelete
  156. ohhh-kay. that star trek/bk commercial is as creepy as anything i've seen in a lonnnggggg time.

    ReplyDelete
  157. re: Specific gravity

Never heard of that being a drug test deal. Unless they are suspicious of "DILUTED URINE".

It can tell of adrenal disease, renal (kidney disease) and diabetes inspidus to name a few really quick.

Tells of kidney function and ability to dilute or concentrate urine. I know because mine is OFTEN messed up due to hydration issues (I stay dehyrated but it's a long story)

So that alone would not tell specificities of a 'certain drug'

Re: Mikey SCARY looking fire and sad he had bad luck again. Stinks for him. :(

  159. None of those annoying Ask.com questions yet either(but I know they're coming).

    ReplyDelete
  160. Do you think burger king can make the rodent go away also?

    ReplyDelete
  161. Another caution soon for JJ.

    ReplyDelete
  162. @Lou-

BK is a bit shy of having anything to do with rodents :)

    ReplyDelete
  163. JD I heard Mike Joy talking about the dega crash on Friday explaining what he was trying to explain during the race. I can't write what he said specifically though.

    ReplyDelete
  164. There may be hope for me after all. Marcos is back.

They've been pretty quiet about SDDD.

    ReplyDelete
  165. @Mark - I saw one Ask.com question, it was "Where can I get flowers for Mother's Day?"

    ReplyDelete
  166. @Martin Vincent-I must have missed it(unless you included the commercial).

    ReplyDelete
  167. @ Mark V, really? Good thing they have the answers. Sons and daughters everywhere are so relieved.

    ReplyDelete
  168. Repeat performance by SDDD. I feel so bad. Not.

    ReplyDelete
  169. Anon at 8:28 - JP would say - as the car SAILS into turn 3!

    ReplyDelete
  170. SPEED let Joy recap the accident and show the video. He said at the time there was no debris and Friday referenced it in terms of past accidents.

His point was no wheels, trucks, hoods, etc...

They are still looking for what hit that girl and the others. The windshield is really the only thing that physically broke so that might be the next change we see.

Joy did a good job, but at the time it was still a little weak.

    ReplyDelete
  171. @Dot

    re:SDDD

Don't make me turn this car around! As soon as they start droning on about him, I am coming after YOU first! LOL

i have to say, and not to jinx anything, the camera work and overall broadcast is better than last week.

  175. oops..trunks...did I mention I hate my laptop?

    ReplyDelete
  176. What I had a problem with the other weekend with the Ask.com questions is that they would show Bobby Labonte running 31st a lap down under green instead of showing actual racing. Good to see they're not overdoing it tonight.

    ReplyDelete
  177. Interesting how many of us are still struggling with the fact that this telecast is....good!

    ReplyDelete
  178. Story I heard was that it was another fans elbow (or some other body part) that broke the jaw

    ReplyDelete
  179. I truly appreciated Mike Joy's explanation. He made an error in judgement, but explaining himself went a long way. No one is perfect.

You won't believe this, but I was channel surfing, and over on Discovery, I *swear* there was a woman making Gopher stew. I kid you not. She skinned it & everything....eeeuuuwwww.

    ReplyDelete
  180. So let me understand this...
Head of Fox sports tells everyone to pound sand if they don't like what is presented.
BUT.... Some of the many complaints have been addressed. Does he just want to come off as a jerk for street cred or did the one producer go on vacation again? Maybe one of the trolls can explain that.

    ReplyDelete
  181. Thanks JD. Joy is a first-class guy. He gets a mulligan from me :)

    ReplyDelete
  182. I'm impressed with the telecast tonight.

Soooo much better than Phoenix and Richmond.

    glenn, gopher stew? Oh, sick.

    ReplyDelete
  183. Discovery still has that "Turbo" project running on the Internet.

Hope they decide to make it a motorsports network when the economy gets better.

    ReplyDelete
  184. red,

Mike Joy said he was glad to have a chance to clarify his remarks from the Talladega race. He said (paraphrasing) that at first glance, that nothing from the car went into the stands, that all the tethering did its job; he didn't mean to mislead anyone that nothing at all was flying in the stands, but it was not car parts. Then they talked about the girl with the broken jaw and how Carl had called her. This was her first NASCAR race and her dad wanted her that close to the front so she could get a feel for the noise, the air movement, and said that she was very excited to go to her next race.

    ReplyDelete
  185. I've been finishing a book tonite w/the race on & I've heard about 5 ask.com commls.
Mike Joy Fri said he basically was commenting on the car not going into the stands. He did miss the debris going into the stands at first, from what I remember. Anyway, as mad as I was at him that day of the wreck, the apology made up for alot Fri, imho.

  187. Jim,

The Fox guys read this site, but also most all the other sites that talk about the TV coverage or have issues with the Fox crew.

As you can see tonight from the pit coverage, things can change.

Hope it only gets better for their last few races.

    ReplyDelete
  188. Karen, perfect explanation of what Mike Joy said I couldn't remember all that.

    ReplyDelete
  189. @ JD, There is a still photo of Carl's car upside down in the Scene paper. Lots of parts flying into the fence. The film didn't seem to show a lot of it. The fence did catch those larger parts.

@ nrf, I wondered if the girl's jaw was broken while trying to duck. Don't you think we would have heard about the part by now?

    ReplyDelete
  190. Wow, I guess criticism of Mike Joy is not allowed on this blog.

    ReplyDelete
  191. Glenc

On Beverly Hillbillies tv show, Granny made gopher, grits and gravy for many episodes.

    :)

    @ Bevo

agree on the mulligan for Mike Joy. ONLY time he ever disappointed me so he IS only human.

I forgive all the promos he does on racing. We all know that is not his choice..or anybody else's on shows.

His voice always feels comfortable for me..which is the one thing I hate about the other crew we have rest of the season.:(
