Live Blogging Nationwide Series Race on ESPN
ESPN has split the announcing teams in Indy and tonight is the Nationwide Series race from O'Reilly Raceway Park.
NASCAR Countdown is up at 7:30PM ET. In the past this pre-race show has been hosted by one of the pit reporters. Last season it was Dave Burns. This year, Jack Arute is being joined by Shannon Spake and Mike Massaro on pit road.
It will be Marty Reid calling the race with Rusty Wallace and Randy LaJoie alongside. This trio has been on the air today from ORP several times and they have been having a lot of fun.
The truck series race on Friday night was outstanding, so perhaps this is a night when the Nationwide Series can match the excitement. There are only four Sprint Cup Series drivers in the field, so hopefully the Carl and Kyle show will have some real competition on this short-track bullring.
Pictures at night from ORP are great. The audio works well from the in-car cameras because the drivers are working the throttle and brake all night long. There are no tricky camera locations or fancy gadgets, just good old short-track racing at night.

«Oldest ‹Older 201 – 236 of 236This is great stuff, nice to enjoy NASCAR on ESPN for once.
Rusty can't contain his personal involvement in this 3rd place battle.
This is good stuff ! ! !

Hey red,
Looks like McDowell gave back those three Lucky Dogs.
now THAT'S funny right there!
Hey John,
Great thread tonight. Do most NNS races go past the 200 post mark?
Brad K is being rather aggressive tonight, actually everyone is. I like it.
Flying heads for us.
Bah, the flying heads are still there.
Did I miss the finish line??????
No drop down thing? I sneezed..was that when it happened?
Now we'll see whether Kyle's going to hold it together.
Nice run for Kenny Wallace in 10th. I'm sure we'll hear a little more about it tomorrow morning. :)
Which head finished 5th or 10th. by the time they show up, there wiped off. STOP doing that. what's so wrong with the drop-down board?
Red...you can not go wrong with any event at ORP..it is a jewel of a racetrack.
My 1st Busch race was 83. Many great memories
I'm sad to see this race end. As I said Friday morning, the ORP Truck & Nationwide races are 2 of my favorites of the season.
Excellent race! And ESPN stuck with the interesting battle instead of following Carl out in front in clean air.
Well done, guys! Best race from ESPN this year!

wow! just wow! hard to believe that was an espn broadcast.
ok, gang, i'm out: i'm driving with our youngest daughter to buffalo tomorrow for her orientation for univ @ buffalo. probably won't make the cup race so will catch up when i hit the hotel.
Where's Weed? There's some guy talking that looks just like him?
Funny how SUDDENLY Kyle B is decent coming in second...oh brother.
I can tell he doesnt mean any of this graciousness
(his nose is growing)
Someone has gotten to Kyle, I believe. He's lot more classy tonight for a 2nd place finish than he has in a long while.
Patrick, usually we are complaining about the coverage when they do.
Nice to see this one do it for all the right reasons.
We may have just seen ESPN's Nationwide coverage go in a very good direction for the rest of the season.
Thanks to everyone for the comments, we will be doing this tomorrow for the pre-race shows and then the Cup Series race.
ESPN's pre-race show is going to be very different from the norm, it might be worth recording.
Have a great night all, a new column for comments will be up shortly.
JD
have a safe drive red!
As to the Vile Tush imposter.... you know Joe Gibbs has that new book out now that's supposed to help grown men be better men.
Great race and coverage.
Was it the booth? Was it the kind of track that makes good racing? Was it the truck?
I'm going for all of the above.
The race was great, so was the discussion.
Thanks, JD.

thanks, jd. biggest problem for me is keeping the speed down!
@red
Get a good night's sleep and a safe trip! Catch ya on the flip side.
This was just fantastic all the way around. I even liked Rusty and that is big for me. If cup could only be like this, unfortuantely I am afraid that is wishful thinking.

Just do like Jeremy does and either take it with water or smoke it. [/sarcasm]
Great. Two interviews - two cup guys - I know they finished 1/2 but should have gotten Steve and Brad at least. Went off the air too fast I thought, but great broadcast. Was it Marty leading it?
@Red the next track they go to is the Iowa Speedway and that is about 430 miles away.
My DVR cut Carl off in mid word, guess I forgot to add enough extra time but evidently I didn't miss anyone else.
Oh, about the race, it was a good one.
ok, i really was gonna shut down for tonight but . . .
@sophia: thanks! fortunately, we don't have to leave ugly early and we're under no time pressure on the buffalo side as the orientation doesn't start until monday. have done this drive for 4 years with the older daughter so it's familiar as well.
@patrick: again: it is to laugh! thanks!
@charlie: have always wanted to go to just about ANY track in iowa! seems those folks just know great racing.
night, all!!
I'm with Vicky D. We needed more interviews. Interviews with NNS ONLY drivers, not just the NSCS that finished 1-2 because they run the full season. How about the 88-Keselowski or (god forbid, even the) 62-Wallace. What about our pole winner 99-Bayne
Yes with all the pre race stuff, and we know it's going to happen SUNDAY with IMS/Brickyard HYPE, I TOTALLY enjoy more POST race interviews.
I enjoyed it last night with trucks and enjoyed it a week or so ago with some NW drivers that are normally swept under the carpet for CUP guys.
NASCAR/ESPN needs to CRITICALLY THINK about this and the CAMERA work.
Better camera work, leave time for post race interviews. Then end.
Will never happen. Why? ESPN PU overcrowded schedule, especially when Fball starts. and they don't care what we think about the camera work.
tonight was vastly improved but this happenen last year on the mid Series.
Terrible being so cynical.
MRN needs to be on more radio statons for FREE.
p.s. Open wheelers
FOX has on Form 1 from Hungary in afternoon 3pm? ESDT & IRL at 5pm Versus. Sheesh. Big day of racing.
