Emailers wanted an opportunity to talk about Kyle Petty working on the ARCA Series race on SPEED. Here it is. Steve Byrnes is calling the race with Wendy Venturini and Jim Tretow on pit road.
Thanks to Rutledge Wood for the picture of the SPEED crew. To see the picture full-size, just click on it. To add your TV-related comment on the ARCA race, just click on the comments button below. This is a family-friendly website, please keep that in mind when posting.
Thanks for taking the time to stop by
The Daly Planet.
Gee only one here? This can be scary track with young ARCA drivers...looks gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteWreck already.
Great photo, JD. Rut put out a nice one of the ESPN guys in the booth, too. I LOVE seeing details behind the scenes. :)
Some of these guys are a hoot and a half on Twitter. Max Papis ceiling fix.
ARCA being ARCA.
ReplyDeletereplay. Ouch.
ReplyDeleteNice to hear Kyle back on tv.
Can't member hearing Steve in Booth during race. That guy works a lot. Should be fun if we get some GF laps going.
Check out that snazzy pace car too.
ReplyDeleteJD,
ReplyDeleteDo you have a time for the ARCA re-air? My Comcast guide has everything on all channels listed as TBA.
Frank in Sebring
Frank, as far as I know, there is no re-air.
ReplyDeleteThis broadcast would be GREAT if they had Kenny Schrader in the booth with Byrnes and Petty.
ReplyDeleteTypical ARCA wreckfest.
ReplyDeleteLove the head-on view of the restarts!
ReplyDeleteJD
ReplyDeleteTOTALLY agree about Schrader. His stories are always timeless, as is his sense of humor.
I agree! I *love* when Schrader is in the booth! He's always great! <3
ReplyDeleteWell, well. Schrader is in . . . Argentina . . . with a Roush Fenway Fusion as part of a goodwill trip to see the cars while there's an Argentina Super Touring Championship race there.
ReplyDeleteHope it doesn't go sour like our Governor.
snore....back to qualifying on ESPN.
ReplyDeleteI'm hearing a whistle on the ARCA race? That's weird
ReplyDeleteDid Kyle Petty just say (talking about Alli'O) "this chick is fired up"?
ReplyDeleteGood to see Steve Arpin having a strong top-5 run. I hope Venturini keeps him on board for the rest of the season.
ReplyDeleteOK, that ARCA Nation commercial gets annoying the more they air it.
ReplyDeleteAndy, Kyle just answered you on Twitter. He said "Yes I did".
ReplyDelete-sigh- ARCA. What a joke sometimes.
ReplyDeleteAt least its not Pro Cup though.
JD I know this is about ARCA but thought you would like this. Randy Lajoi just called the start and parkers "cash for clunkers". you won't get that from anyone else. really like that guy in the booth!
ReplyDeleteGO Steve Arpin!!!!
ReplyDeletehey gang! just made it in time: 38 laps left!! will catch up as fast as i can!
ReplyDeleteCracking me up: Kyle just sent me a Tweet from Pocono.
ReplyDelete"did I just say, regarding Alli'O, "this chick is fired up"?...YES I DID, LOL"
He was talking about Alli Owens, one of several female drivers in the ARCA race.
JD
One thing Im enjoying about the ARCA race is that Steve and Kyle are trusting you to actually be able to read the pictures on the screen instead of shouting car numbers and names like some play-by-play folks...
ReplyDeleteThis race is turning into cash for clunkers though.
Yet tomorrow there might be 2 guys that get out of shape and spin or wreck. Amazing how 2 races at the exact same track can tell such different stories.
Parker has to dig now, should be exciting
WOW. OT but WOW. McDowell was DIGGING!
ReplyDeleteDavid,
ReplyDeleteWatch it! I love me some USAR Pro Cup!
Geeze, I saw. Just replied - "a little too fired up", she was penalized for speeding on pit road.
WOW @ Dakoda Armstrong.
ReplyDeleteLofton leads (sigh) I hate it when Eddie Sharp's cars win.
Andy, hadn't seen much of it in the past. When living in NC a few friends trying to make pit crews did some Pro Cup stuff...mostly the running joke was how the series was an ongoing wreckfest and from the one race I saw on SPEED this year it looked like the same yet again.
ReplyDeleteDang. This makes me miss Adam alot. Would have been SOOOO awesome to see him in Cup
Darn it making up choc chip cookie dough and missed firey wreck...glad I did since I saw he got out safe first. Must have missed the replay.
ReplyDeleteLong day of racing and looking forward to IRL tonight 8pm. Which means no computer since taping CTS.
Aw! Showing Adam Petty...bittersweet...Kyle did not KNOW they were gonna show that...I think they should've warned him myself...such torn memories for the man. :-(
Good old Danica is saying the IRL event is still in trouble between showers and weepers on the track.
ReplyDeleteWhat a mess...
What the heck? Why is it that the IRL goes somewhere and has weepers?! Iowa a few weeks back now Kentucky?
ReplyDeleteGuess I better slow my black helicopter down.
COME ON ARPIN!!!! GO #25!!
ReplyDeletei said it last time arca race was broadcast but i'm liking kligerman a whole ton. he is one heck of a racer and i predict we'll see him in a cup ride in a few years.
ReplyDeleteAdd Schrader and maybe Dunlap and let this group replace the Fox team in Sprint Cup.
ReplyDeleteSpaw
Re: Sparta
ReplyDeleteI thought I read the other day Weepers had not been a problem before? Is that true?
Sigh. Bummer. I love IRL under the lights
oh no! kyle utters "he's driving the wheels off this thing right now!" no, kyle, no: no rusty-isms!
ReplyDeleteYou can follow @tracksideonline for the official IRL info tonight on the race.
ReplyDeleteRe: IRL
ReplyDeletePush to Pass? Oh Dear God, here we go again...
Re: ARCA
I agree about Parker. At the very worst, a good NW team will pick him up. Hopefully Penske will run a 2nd car later this year for him.
I really think it's a pleasant surprise for Kyle...I've seen him at moments like that before, and it seems to make him smile more than being sad (although either would be understandable.) But I think they know him well enough to know he'd be okay with it.
ReplyDeleteI saw Adam in his last race (Richmond.) What might have been. A few weeks later at the Glen Busch race my 2 friends & I all bought little Sprint cars because the money went to their charity (which eventually became VJG.) I don't have a ton of diecast but that one is special.
That was cool, though, Kyle telling those stories about when he was a kid.
Could you imagine Kyle on RaceDay instead of Spencer?
ReplyDeleteKyle Petty and Kenny Schrader would be AWESOME on RD!!!

ReplyDeleteCould you imagine Kyle on RaceDay instead of Spencer?
yes -- but that doesn't take a whole lot of imagining, jd! i think kyle's doing terrific work on recent broadcasts.
and to go further off-topic, ya' know who else has been impressing me recently as someone who may have a career in broadcasting after he stops racing? especially after yesterday?
carl edwards.
i'm just sayin' . . .
JD, the "B Team" is again impressing. Doing a shot from inside pit selection. Reid brought up the reality of saying "face it, we know there are start and parkers."
ReplyDeleteEven put the #90 on the spot too by saying pick a stall next to them.
Red, I think Carl Edwards would be a good actor after he stops racing.
ReplyDeleteRutledge Wood crashed the ESPN TV booth at Pocono during practice. Got a great pic, going to post it in a moment. Too funny.
ReplyDeleteCarl speaks well--he miked himself at an autograph signing at the Glen a couple years ago, so even if you didn't have a ticket, you could listen to him broadcast...he was very funny. Some woman asked him to take off his shirt & he says something like 'I will if you will'. He was a good ad-libber.
ReplyDelete@vicky: ya' know, that's a possibility but given how much i am so over the current broadcasting crop? i think i'd like some new faces and voices in the booths.
ReplyDeleteone of the things i like that carl does is he looks into the camera as he speaks. same w/knaus. shows me lots of respect for fans.
this restart is a perfect scenario for kligerman.
ok, 3 laps to go is NOT the time to do anything but follow the action in the booth. pit reports aren't appropriate right now . . .
ReplyDeleteGreat example of what happens when you hit the curb is looking at the left fronts of the 77 and 25. Both have the lettering rubbed off, both left rears have letting still.
ReplyDeleteWow. Bummer for Parker =( Trying that crossover for Arpin but thats just some hard racin' late.
Oh no our guy spun with 2 laps to go.
ReplyDeleteRed, was thinking the same thing you were
ReplyDeleteDavid: I agree the qualifying coverage was entertaining. I like the combo in the booth that ESPN has been using for NW races the last couple weeks. Hope the race works out as well. Like Steve,Kyle and Wendy on ARCA race but man is it hard to watch.
ReplyDeleteI wish they could spread out the racing..too much today.
ReplyDeleteKyle P makes me really miss TNT already..and he Tweets during broadcasts.
LOVED Rut's pic of the ESPN booth saying they had great snacks. The look on the boys faces.:)
I hoped they all crossed the finish line w/o any more mishaps.
ReplyDeletePut the Rutledge pic up, will be live blogging the Nationwide Series at 4PM. See you then.
ReplyDeleteNASCAR LIVE was recorded? HUH?
ReplyDeleteWell, SPEED got caught on that one. Guess NASCAR Live is really NASCAR Recorded Live. Hmmm...
ReplyDeleteNo postrace?
ReplyDeleteBRING ON VERSUS!!!
SPEED was gone like the wind to a recorded NASCAR Live show. Would have been nice to have some post-race other than the winner.
ReplyDeleteNot a good call...
totally strange they went to a RECORDED race in lieu of post race interviews.
ReplyDeleteSeems to be theme of the season. waaaay too much pre-race clutter.
hardly any post race interviews
meant recorded SHOW
ReplyDeleteVery entertaining ARCA coverage. All we really need is the basics. Why can't BSPN see that?
ReplyDeleteKP did a wonderful job. I was worried for him when they showed that Adam piece. You could hear his voice change. I miss Adam. I had a chance to meet him in Las Vegas about 2 months before his accident. Nice kid.
