Live Blogging The Camping World Trucks From Chicagoland (8:30PM ET SPEED)
Krista Voda starts the show as the Camping World Truck Series gets to run under the lights at Chicagoland Speedway.
In this version of The Setup, Voda will look back at the Bristol race and also dig up two old truck races from Chicagoland. Her featured interview is with driver Terry Cook and reporter Ray Dunlap goes wakeboarding with driver TJ Bell.
Once the action gets underway, it will be Rick Allen on the play-by-play. Allen began the day with CWTS qualifying and then called the ARCA/REMAX race. He winds up the evening with the trucks.
Phil Parsons and Michael Waltrip are the analysts for SPEED. Parsons supplies the knowledge, Waltrip supplies the enthusiasm. Fans are divided on Waltrip's presence in the booth, but there is no doubt the overall energy level is higher with Waltrip on the TV team.
Ray Dunlap and Adam Alexander are handling the big pit road. This should be quite a night for them with lots of potential stories to update on and off pit road. There may be quite a bit of "starting and parking," so look for Allen to make a choice whether or not to deal with this issue.
The biggest shame of the truck series is that after the pre-race, Voda is not added to the pit road team. This would give SPEED a third pit road presence and the direct effect of that would be an increased flow of information to the viewers.
Right now, the CWTS is struggling to generate any excitement except for the top few trucks. The old days of groups of trucks fanning out and racing are mostly gone. The haves and the have-nots are easy to see on the track as the top teams usually start to lap trucks early in the race.
While Chicagoland is a nice facility, NASCAR is going to be rethinking why the CWTS is here. This series was born on the bullrings and may well serve the sport better on shorter and more directly competitive tracks. Should the Kyle Busch and Ron Hornaday's of the world pull away and make the show a two truck TV event, things may well change down the road.
SPEED's presentation of this series has no cutaway truck, no infield pit center and only two pit reporters. The focus is on the racing and the emphasis is on the teams. Hopefully, there will be enough competitive trucks tonight to keep everyone entertained.
This post will serve to host your comments about the CWTS on SPEED from the Chicagoland Speedway. To add your TV-related comment, just click on the comment button below. This is a family-friendly website, please keep that in mind when posting. Thanks for taking the time to stop by.
The "Setup" may be the best pre-race show going in NASCAR right now.
ReplyDeleteSimple is better in lots of ways..
ReplyDeleteYes..sir..it..is..:)
ReplyDeleteHere's...to..a..great...Pick..'em..Ups..race...:)
Reminds me of the old NASCAR 2 Day
ReplyDeleteI wish we saw more of this guy. I think he could be good on TV with a little more practice.
ReplyDeleteHe's making an effort which is a great sign. Nationwide and Sprint take notice
ReplyDeletebest aero package the trucks ever had right there in 01 and 02
ReplyDeleteTrucks in big venues are not good, imo. Nice to see Joe R again tho.
ReplyDeleteWow, Ray has some GUNS!!
ReplyDeleteThe American Icon: Rick Crawford!
ReplyDeleteHow nice of SPEED to promote the race Sunday
ReplyDeleteLooks like a very solid turnout tonight too. For a Friday night Truck race anyways.
ReplyDeleteIf only Chicago would get their heads out of their rears and change the ticket policy, they would probably do better with walkups and such
In these days of expanding czars - are you the czar of NASCAR TV?
ReplyDeleteAnthem BROKE my eardrums!! On the good side, can't hear Mikey anymore...;)
ReplyDeletethose personal seat licenses are killers for the 'little guy'. But I bet if you go online you could find people selling truck series tickets. Still misses the 'walk ups' though.
ReplyDeleteThere was something wrong with that girl's mike. She didn't have the range, but that made it worse.
glen, there was alot of talk this past weekend on SIRIUS, as well as during the week, about that very topic. Lots of hope they will adjust that, not like they have much competition in the area since they killed off Chicago Motor Speedway
ReplyDeleteI had a friend who worked Sundays...he loved BGNN (now Camping World east) races, and Watkins Glen only sells 3 day tickets. No 'Saturday only', so he wouldn't go. Always thought that was a shame. It's a great deal if you can go all three days, mind you. But when I used to go to Richmond, there were always a lot of locals for the Busch race. Tickets were $35. Lots of kids, some businesses had group seats. Lots of fun.
ReplyDeleteFunny JD was saying about the bullrings. One of the first truck races I saw on TV was Evergreen speedway. That was cool, I miss that.
Nice to see a lot of the TV screen again.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by a blog administrator.
ReplyDeleteNo joke JD.
ReplyDeleteThank goodness Phoenix does not mandate you purchase all weekend, especially when the West cars run in the fall
Two trucks with reouble already. Not too promising.
ReplyDeleteHey, look! Wide-angle shots!
ReplyDeleteThat should be 'trouble'. Sorry.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by a blog administrator.
ReplyDeleteS&P's were falling toward the back as they hit the start/finish line. A race to the back.
ReplyDeleteShould we assume there isn't any racing anywhere else? Just the top 5 in single file?
ReplyDeleteFour trucks out.
ReplyDeleteThat's the problem we were talking about earlier Sal. The field is thin and on these big tracks they stretch out.
ReplyDeleteLove to see these guys get back to the short tracks and put on a show.
Too bad they couldn't stick Danica in a truck tonight. That would have made some headlines.
ReplyDeleteShort track races with the trucks were awesome. Never did figure out why they changed to so many big tracks.
ReplyDeleteEvening everyone! Enjoying this race personally.
ReplyDeleteOh wait, scratch that, SDDD leading, and by a lot, ick!
Hey! Do you suppose that they have so many commercials as a way to divert fans attention from the fact that the races at most of these cookie cutters are dull? If we only see 2/3 of the race, then we won't realize how dull? Just askin.
ReplyDeleteGetting some NASCAR feedback that the trucks may be returning to their roots.
ReplyDeleteThink of it this way, last series not in a COT.
Even the 1 mile flat tracks put on a good show. See those clips from Chicago Motor Speedway? 3 wide for the lead.
ReplyDeleteThese big tracks aren't bad for the trucks, I just think its that aero thing with the twisted bodies and spacer plate. Realllyyyy HATE that tapered spacer
Now JD - you would have been upset if Danica drove the GoDaddy.com Chevy Silverado. You would tell us about all the emails and negative tweets you get.
ReplyDeleteRichmond, Richmond, Richmond, Richmond, Richmond, Richmond!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteNo brainer move IMO
I really do NOT want to hear Danica and NASCAR in the same sentence any more.
ReplyDeleteComing down pit road.
I think Danica in this race would have been a great deal. She is on Wind Tunnel Sunday night at 9PM.
ReplyDeleteShould be interesting to see if she runs a partial NASCAR sched after closing her IRL deal.
Love James Buescher's paint scheme tonight, very cool looking.
ReplyDeleteI said the same thing about Danica in a truck when they were at TX.
ReplyDeletehot, far less than 20 IRL events on the 2010 calendar.
ReplyDeleteShe might wind up doing a N'wide sched.
Marty Smith said on ESPN that just because Danica was going to stay in IndyCar did not rule out seeing her in some NASCAR events.
ReplyDeleteGreat pit stop coverage, great race off graphics, commercial.
ReplyDeleteLove the trucks on SPEED.
JD, I can't stand her (for obvious reasons others have alluded to in the past)
ReplyDeleteDo you really think she will try Nascar seriously? I don't think she could handle the schedule. Or not having instant success.
ReplyDeleteDanica in a truck makes sense since they run several companion dates on fairly "easy" tracks like Texas and Chicago. I believe they share the Kentucky weekend too.
ReplyDeleteIts a logical leap...
Yep, did you guys see that Versus is being dropped by DirecTV?
ReplyDeleteAdd that to the fact that only five races are on ESPN and she is as good as gone. No exposure.
Only problem...where to go...
I was thinking the same thing about Danica, JD. That'd get everyone in a tizzy, lol.
ReplyDeleteShe & Tommy were funny when they did the Speed awards a few years back.
On the other hand, I could see her getting fired up enough to maybe slap Kyle Bush upside the head if he pissed her off! Kind of a pint sized Jimmy Spencer!
ReplyDeleteI didn't know that about Direct. wow. Blow to...who was it trying to make that a competition to ESPN? Comcast?
ReplyDeleteNothing notable about a new Cialis ad, except that the spokesman looks like he could be Kyle Busch at age 50...
ReplyDelete@ Sal, LOL too funny
ReplyDeleteIts a ploy by VERSUS - they will cave... DirecTV calling their bluff...
ReplyDelete=(
ReplyDeletePoor Brian Scott. Had him to win too
How much longer can Indy cars survive? Other than the 500, if they get no TV they're dead in the water.
ReplyDeleteComcast bought OLN and re-named it. They poured lots of $$ into it but Comcast hand-picked the execs and made them all move to Philly as the HQ.
ReplyDeleteDirecTV said the cost they pay to Versus was not worth the programming the network provided.
That is a whammy....
Think Comcast was either a couple years too late on that purchase or a couple years too early...
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorites hits the wall
ReplyDeleteSal, they are on life support.
ReplyDeleteI've tried watching a couple Indy races this year, and must confess I find it less than compelling. I actually anjoy the F1 races more just because the Speed announcers are such a grin to listen to!
ReplyDeleteIt's sad to see. I remember when I was a kid the whole family would watch the 500, and my parents weren't even vaguely interested in racing except for that race. Never did figure out where I got my love for stock cars!
ReplyDeleteDavid, just like a race team it all comes down to the people. Having a tough time deciding who is in charge in Comcast land right now....
ReplyDeleteRay Dunlap has been having a good season for SPEED. Remember his bowling piece a while back?
Strictly conjecture - do you think NBC might have any interest in picking up the IRL? Outside of the Olympics, there doesn't seem to be much sports programming left on that network...

ReplyDeleteSal, they are on life support.
August 28, 2009 9:46 PM
If they are on "life support" why is Danica staying instead of making the jump to NASCAR in 2010?
I've always enjoyed Ray...even (or especially) when he gets in hot water for speaking the unpleasant truth.
ReplyDelete@JD - So is DirecTV expecting to put the Versus games into Center Ice, or are they fine with losing the majority of hockey fans come October?
ReplyDeleteI just asked Danica on Twitter why she did not jump in a truck tonight. See if she answers...
ReplyDeleteGot to love technology...
Yeah, that is a problem for sure. I think had they been able to chase after the NW Series it might have helped them out but now they are stuck waiting until 2014 to even consider a bid. Hopefully they can get to a cable tier that I can get by then.
ReplyDeleteAndrew, the Versus signal on DirecTV is either gone or going away. I can't remember the effective date off hand.
ReplyDeleteNo clue on the NHL stuff.
Annon,
ReplyDeleteShe is a big fish in a small pond, its a short schedule and pretty much guaranteed money. Same reason Dario took Chip's offer to get back in an IndyCar. Why risk the iffy-ness of getting a sponsor in NASCAR where it takes a minimum of 3 years just to get up to speed when she can race for a championship in the IRL and be the star of the show?
Anon 9:49PM,
ReplyDeleteBecause she has a viable team and sponsor for next season. 17 weekends will let her do other things, she just has to decide what.
Trust me, she is a NASCAR marketing and merchandising dream.
@JD - Yikes. That really sucks for IndyCar.
ReplyDeleteThe difference between tonight's race and the two ESPN races last week are stunning, primarily due to the camera angles. They're using wide shots for most of the racing, in-car cameras on replays, and racing in the large split-screen box.
In the words of Michael Waltrip, Danica will say "what is a daly planet and why are they tweeting me at dinner?"
ReplyDeleteSo when does someone give Jason White a NW shot in a non S&P car?
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone think Danica will be able to cut it in Nascar?
ReplyDeleteSounds like someone is writing her stuff. All PR stuff about her website and new pics of her sponsor.
ReplyDeleteYea, MW was nice enough to message me after that little debacle.
Takes a whole lot to get me bent out of shape.
Sal, depends who picks her up and how willing she is to take advice.
ReplyDeleteIf she gets with a Roush who will bring her up slow and she has a solid mentor, I don't see why she couldn't be a competitive force in the NW series. Cup? I lean towards her being a 20-something-land talent.
ultimately, maybe Tony George really did kill open wheel in the usa. Where's Robin miller when you need him?
ReplyDeleteSo are you and MW "cool" now JD? lol
ReplyDeleteMarcos & Carl are starting 8th.
ReplyDeleteIs that #57 meeting minimum speed?
ReplyDeleteCredit Norm for trying to run all day but man that car is a rolling chicane
@Sal - She hasn't made it in IndyCar yet, and the only open wheel drivers who've had any sort of success in NASCAR recently were the ones who had major success in USAC, Champ Car, or IndyCar (Gordon, Smoke, Montoya, Hornish, and I'm sure I'm forgetting someone).
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by a blog administrator.
ReplyDeleteDavid, both the Nationwide and Cup will soon be COT series.
ReplyDeleteEverything will change...trust me. That is one reason for the changes.
I really hope she spills some beans on Wind Tunnel. Not too sure why Tommy Kendall is hosting, still trying to get that from SPEED. Nice guy, but come on...
MW does not follow anyone in the media, only person friends. He just sends out Tweets and never seems to follow up. Strange way of doing business.
But, he was nice to me so it's all good. "Just TV" as we like to say..
That's why I can't see her making a serious try at Nascar. She may be great for marketing, but she hasn't exactly set the world on fire on the track.
ReplyDeleteWhich Kyle Busch will we wee after the race? will we get the new PC version, the brat, or someone with a little more balance?
ReplyDeleteThis is fun to watch but our favorite producer Keith is really looking hard for some actual racing.

August 28, 2009 9:56 PM
Really? - not sure who is grumpier - you or Dave Despain.
will we SEE, I mean.
ReplyDeleteSal, I have been trying very hard to get the info on who talked to him and got him to convert.
ReplyDeleteGonna be hard for some of those NW only teams to remain viable if NASCAR uses them as the COT guinea pigs like its sounding to "fix" the Cup product
ReplyDeleteAt least Dave is on vacation, I am just on a diet. Driving me nuts!
ReplyDeleteSal, I guess it will depend on where he finishes tonight. :-)
ReplyDeleteSo far it's a typical 'cookie cutter' type race. Close racing for 3 laps after a restart, then cars/trucks strung out single file all over the track.
ReplyDeleteWell, I keep looking over at the Grand Am series to see what they are going to do.
ReplyDeleteOwned by Jim France and snuggling up to the NASCAR guys. Got some NASCAR folks driving in Montreal tomorrow in the sports car race.
Grand Am is a player...
see, I liked Tommy on that test drive show. I thought he was a good host.
ReplyDeleteI think Danica's possibilities are endless. No one *knows* what she could do. Some take to it, some don't. She's slight, but if she works out, who knows. Total flop, total success, but worth a gamble if you're a sponsor? Maybe.
Showing some trucks towards the back and coming down the frontstretch. Good field summary by the pit reporters.
ReplyDeleteNot necessarily. Iv'e heard him be boorish even after a win.
ReplyDeleteJD, someone called "Speedway" the other day and said Chris Angel hypnotized Kyle and thats why he changed.
ReplyDeleteMoody was utterly lost and made jokes out of it. Interesting theory though lol.
I think both Joe and JD are trying to work with him as best as they can.
Oh if only Digger wasn't forced on us...
The mandatory Digger in-program read. Got to love it.
ReplyDeleteFolks emailed me and asked if Gibbs new book converted him...too funny.
ReplyDeleteI suppose we should be grateful that (so far) Digger doesn't follow up with "Boogity"!
ReplyDeleteI enjoy Grand am. JC probably has his opinions on that...and maybe some influence. And they seem to have money.
ReplyDeleteHey, they took those moving lights off the backgrounds. Thanks guys.
ReplyDeleteGlen I am with you on Danica.
ReplyDeleteShe has the fire, but can she balance being a media phenom with trying to be a successful race car driver?
Thats my only concern with her. Andretti has been doing his best with her and she has had a solid season especially considering Penske and Ganassi have run away with the season thus far for the mostpart
For the last couple of days, DirecTV satellite television subscribers have been seeing a crawl if they've watched any Versus network programming telling them that as of Aug. 31, DirecTV will no longer carry Versus.
ReplyDeleteFor college football and NHL fans who get their television through DirecTV, this could be bad news.
Five Pacific 10 Conference games (as yet undetermined) as well as an assortment of Big 12 and Mountain West games, and an NHL package of 54 games could become unavailable to DirecTV subscribers just when those seasons start. The first Pac-10 game on the Versus schedule will be Sept. 26.
According to Versus, it is now seen in 75 million homes. Besides college football and the NHL, Versus is the home of the Tour de France, IRL auto racing and cage fighting.
Robert Mercer, director of public relations for DirecTV, said: "Versus' overall ratings are poor and have not increased nearly enough to justify what we're paying them, let alone the significant increase they're asking for.
"It is a significant rate hike and the deal is discriminatory because Versus is not offering the same package options as other distributors."
Versus is owned by Comcast, a cable carrier that competes with DirecTV. Versus responded in a statement released Friday that said it has added "many marquee properties" and has become "the fastest-growing sports cable network in the country."
According to Nielsen ratings numbers, Versus is averaging 3,000 more viewers at any given time since rebranding itself from the Outdoor Life Network to Versus in 2006-2007. On DirecTV, Versus ranks 61st among 74 English-advertising supported cable networks.
Duane Lindberg, who handles the Pac-10 television contracts, said he had been unaware of the DirecTV-Versus dispute. "It's in our best interests to have Versus be as widely distributed as possible," he said.
@ JD, maybe Joe or JD hit him up side the head with it.
ReplyDeleteSo, 10 S&P's?
ReplyDeleteI think the 57 might have gotten tagged for being too slow, if the #29 is a Keselowski truck then they may have had an issue. Odd to see S&P's so late in a race in this series though.
ReplyDeleteWow, they retired the 16, musta been worse than I thought.
Duane is going to have a very good football season. Nice guy as well.
ReplyDeleteDot, I'm not convinced...
ReplyDelete:p
I think he might remember his p's & q's for a bit, but it's not long lasting. I try and remind myself about the Sam Ard thing.
Wouldn't you think that under green they could do both tires & gas in one stop?
ReplyDeleteAnyone catch DW call in on SIRIUS the other day talking about Kyle and how he used to act?
ReplyDeleteSaid he thought for a time he thought the fans enjoyed hating him until he finally realized they just hated him...
Though he did say he enjoyed being able to get under the skin of guys like Petty and Allison...
Dot, only 5 guys over the wall. not enough people to do so.
ReplyDeleteAnyone know why the 24 team of David Starr has a pit sign with the number 95?
ReplyDeleteThis would be the truck series folks...
ReplyDelete@ David, thank you. I forgot that.
ReplyDeleteStill, it's a stupid rule.
Most comments from DirecTV have been only to let their customers know that the current contract expires 8/31 and they have the right to pull the plug on VERSUS after that date. Other than the on-screen info message, DirecTV has only said they "could" cut VERSUS off if an agreement isn't reached.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of Moody, I am still swinging at the fences to get Sirius streamed online.
ReplyDeleteNASCAR needs some help down the stretch on the weekdays...
Think they said starting Sept. 1st 128 is available as part of the regular XM programming for XM subscribers
ReplyDeleteI'm back... and SDDD is still leading.
ReplyDeleteMy least favorite driver in ARCA (Justin Lofton) won earlier, let's not make the night worse.
I don't know JD. I'm already burned out on the 'race to the chase, the chase', whatever. I don't think I can handle much more coverage of it to the exclusion of everything else.
ReplyDeletegreat job catching carmicheal spinning in action. man he got lucky not to dig that splitter through the grass.
ReplyDeletenice job mikey catching that too.
It's not hard to understand what is behind the scenes in a showdown between a home satellite distributor and a cable network owned by Comcast.
ReplyDeleteI have been trying to find out about Hot Pass for next season, no news yet.
SalB- The number one reason I HATE the chase.
ReplyDeleteOnce it starts, goodbye race watching! It's annoying.
sal, nothing was better than ESPN saying Junior could still make the chase last week. That was awesome.
ReplyDeleteI think he was a magenta on the ticker...
Dave in OKC - maybe David Starr's pit sign guy is an Aggie.
ReplyDeleteJD, at least on NASCAR.com's trackpass scanner, the guys with "legit" chances were in yellow, including Ambrose. Thankfully Jr was not highlighted there.
ReplyDeleteCommon sense sure would go a long way sometimes... The colored ticker should have been kept OFF until Atlanta IMO.
I call it Twelve of One Coverage, because other then those twelve, no one matters.
ReplyDeleteVery hard to enjoy when my driver's 29th or so in points (refering to David Ragan)
Didn't get to mention this during the ARCA race, but good to see Stuart Kirby back at the track! The guy has a bunch of talent, just never had the best situation in relation to the Cup program
ReplyDeletehot, all my drivers retired and two are on TV! That's when you know you are old.
ReplyDeleteWell, we always have Mark Martin!
NASCAR's nightmare scenario - Kyle misses the Chase, and wins seven of the last ten races.
ReplyDeleteIt COULD happen...
I still think that this is a crazy truck series pit road rule.
ReplyDeleteJD, mine uses his past champ's provisional to help BAD teams the last few years. (Terry Labonte)
ReplyDelete@ DaveOKC, good one.
ReplyDeleteDave, it could.
ReplyDeleteWouldn't surprise me in the least if it did.
finally some racing...
ReplyDeleteTerry is a class act. He always treated the ESPN guys so nice.
ReplyDeleteDave, that's what I was hoping the year Stewart didn't make the chase (and I'm not a Stewart fan.) I don't like it. Thought it would show the stupidity. But I really can't stand Kyle, lol.
ReplyDeleteDave...it would serve Nascar right! Show just how stupid it is to lock every driver OUT of the top 10 with 10 races to go. Face it. In 2 weeks, we will all know the top 10 finishers for the title, just not the exact order. that's excitement?
ReplyDeleteIt was so awesome to see him get that win at Darlington in 03. Had that not happened, Bristol '99 would have lived even more bitterly in my memory...
ReplyDeleteRead today the pole quals for Daytona in Feb. are being moved because of football. With the top 35 rule, I still can't figure out why they bother with the twin 125's or whatever the hell they are now. ridiculous.
ReplyDeleteI hope the Montreal race is great, that would be just what the N'wide series needs...
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by a blog administrator.

ReplyDeleteSal, I have been trying very hard to get the info on who talked to him and got him to convert.
JD, didn't you hear, Steve Addington spent about 2 1/2 hours with Kyle the other Monday Night. Kyle just showed up at the shop so the chatted. It's been all over the radio. (way overblown imho)
David, I nearly broke my tv in 99. I'm sure I screamed at it.
ReplyDeleteOh, I hate a motivated Kyle.
What are you taking about? Did you see our reviews of NASCAR Now? How about the ORP race? Allen Bestwick in the rain delay?
ReplyDeleteSpit it out dude...
Yep Glenn, we were talking about Kyle's new PR stuff in all his series.
ReplyDeleteNo clue if it was a JGR deal, since he races for other teams as well...
Annon,
ReplyDeleteI went off on DW for booting Terry the first time which caused everything leading up to that spin then yeah. I was in complete shock the rest of the night. Don't think I slept a wink.
Heard stories that off camera Terry was pretty livid though.
Looking back, he gave Dale that bottom lane to just throw it in there...and guess what? He did.
Might have thrown the remote too...
I can't help but wonder if any of Kyle's sponsors had anything to do with the new persona.
ReplyDeletewell, we are about to see some great racing right now.
ReplyDeleteJD, the real test for Kyle is IF he misses the Chase how he handles that. He can play nice for awhile if they do what I think they will and top 5 the last 2 and make it in...
ReplyDeleteWinning cures alot of wounds but man if they come up short the powder keg might just blow.
Addington may, just mayyyyy be on the hot seat if they come up short.
You tore ESPN a new one after the Bristol races.
ReplyDeleteSomeone really made him aware of the potential of having a live microphone on national TV on a regular basis.
ReplyDeleteI was thinking it was Kathy Hessert from Charlotte, she has a media company that does that.
Eventually, we will find out...
That was a near disaster!
ReplyDeleteAnnon, in case you didnt watch Bristol, they deserved it!!! Also, I do believe WE the blogging public tore ESPN a new one. JD really didn't make anywhere near the commentary the rest of us made.
ReplyDeleteAnon 10:49PM,
ReplyDeleteBoth posts after Bristol were from the fans and entitled "Your Turn."
Those were comments from fans nationwide. We also had Hawaii and Bermuds, just FYI.
If you did not like what the fans said, sorry.
Please feel free to scroll back through the posts and re-read the comments.
I you have any other comments on that topic, you can always email me anytime.
Thanks!
david, I got it there brother...
ReplyDeleteoops, Bermuda. Did I mention I hate my laptop?
ReplyDeleteGood analysis from Mikey on TJ's spin. Gotta get those wheels back to the left because he almost took a right side door shot at 120 mph.
ReplyDeleteGood action late here.
ReplyDeleteThat said, DFR in the Trucks would be welcome.
In between the Aaron's commercials, Mikey is actually a very astute analyst.
ReplyDeleteMW seems to be blending in well tonight, what do you guys think?
ReplyDeleteJD, this is one of his better efforts this year.
ReplyDeletePretty pleased with the camera selection tonight. Good shots of the action when there has been some with solid replay action when needed.
ReplyDeleteNot a fan of the split they use but everyone seems to be going that way with alot of dead space in their split screens
David, that was me (about breaking my TV.) Hit the wrong button. Terry is the coolest..."that's what he always says."
ReplyDeleteDave, *that's* what I've been wondering, about the sponsors.
Debris, we need debris!
yeah, MW has been solid. Letting Allen and Phil actually lead the show as he should. Adding when needed.
ReplyDeleteDid Danica ever answer?
ReplyDelete@ glenc1, there you go. Lots of debris.
ReplyDeleteglen, Chocolate Meyers had brought it back up last week on Tradin' Paint...its amazing that 10 years later that race STILL boils my blood.
ReplyDeleteAnon, you having a rough night there buddy?
ReplyDeleteMikey must be drinking decaf tonight.
ReplyDelete"He's NOT fine"
ReplyDeleteLOL, This is the Mikey that makes me laugh
Dot...lol, I was just thinking, I didn't want *that* kind of debris! Ooops...
ReplyDeleteNice piece on Chocolate on NASCAR Now. Good guy, I am a big guy but he is a really big guy!
ReplyDeleteA shout out to Ricky Carmichael, who has done a nice job of avoiding wrecks just in front of him all night long.
ReplyDeleteMikey is actually a good analyst ...when he limits himself to doing just that. By the end of the race, I find his frenetic, hyped up delivery very wearing. I think I actually prefer the monotone of JP to the 'hard sell' from Mikey. It reminds me of the Fox coverage. As if he thinks if he speaks loud enough and fist enough, it will make EXCITEMENT, whether it's there or not.
ReplyDeleteI think Mikey has been less obnoxious than usual tonight. Not bad.
ReplyDeleteMight be a good guy, just not a fan of him on SIRIUS. I miss the Driver's Seat still. =\
ReplyDeleteCraven, Randy LaJoie, Terry Cook, Johnny Benson, etc. were great to listen to.
I agree totally. No Cup teams there, no hype. Just truck racing and MW has really been good tonight.
ReplyDeleteJD, I saw that. I had read articles about him meeting with fans fairly frequently, but that was the first time I'd seen it on TV. DEI is now just a museum since they moved to Ganassi, kinda sad.
ReplyDeleteglen, Smoke's words come back to haunt DEI.
ReplyDeleteHere we go, Rick Allen will crank it up.
Would we even see this battle on ESPN with three to go?
ReplyDeleteno.
ReplyDeleteTough night for Crafton, was hoping he'd make up some ground tonight
Man, Kyle can get it done. Got to hand it to him.
ReplyDeleteNot to complain but, why didn't they show the start/finish line? At least we saw the trucks and not the pit crew of the 51.
ReplyDeletenice use of the split screen
ReplyDeleteChocolate is at the RCR Museum.
ReplyDeleteit's annoying, isn't it, lol?
ReplyDeleteNight, all.
I thought they gave that place some good pub. Like to see NN do more of that, but they do not have a fulltime Mooresville beat reporter. Weird...
ReplyDeleteThat was it Dot, just no line across the track.
ReplyDeleteSalB, good point of clarification. He was talking about how long he'd known RC & talked about when they were working at Bowman Gray as kids.
ReplyDeleteSee ya Sunday Glen, take it easy.
ReplyDeleteJD its really a shame that they don't. Especially the way ESPN loves to stir pots rumors fly around that town so fast its crazy.
ReplyDeleteI remember being there last year and the town just convinced Tony hated being a Toyota and that HMS/Chevy were gonna stop at nothing to get him....
At least ESPN should have a Marty Smith in the Charlotte area full-time
Dale Sr. selling peanuts...loved it.
ReplyDeleteDavid, the worst mistake ESPN has ever made was choosing not to throw up a studio on main street in Mooresville.
ReplyDeleteThere is so much synergy in that town for them, it would have paid off in spades.
Oh well...
@ JD, Really? No line???
ReplyDeleteThese last laps are why I enjoy races on Speed. I got a dollar that says every race has racing like that. We just don't get to see enough of it.
ReplyDeleteSpeed shows us the leaders as they get started, then they get seperated so Speed finds a battle and shows that, then another, and another, check on the leader, back to where they are side by side, then another, and so on. Then back to the leader for the last lap, even if it is Kyle.
Other than Rick calling the green flag comes out on lap 2, (really yellow) this was a pretty good broadcast. Not the best ever, track to big, but overall a good job.
The main thing, Speed finds action, shows it, which lets us know what's happening.
@ Glenn, ditto.
