Live Blogging The Nationwide Series From Richmond, VA (ESPN2 - 7PM ET)
Here we go with what should be a very exciting race for the Nationwide Series from the Richmond International Raceway.
Allen Bestwick starts things off from the Infield Pit Center for ESPN2. Rusty Wallace and Brad Daugherty will join Bestwick from that location. It seems strange that Wallace would not move upstairs and join the broadcast team. Wallace has been working a lot of the Nationwide Series races as an analyst.
Instead, it will be Dale Jarrett and Andy Petree in the booth with play-by-play from Marty Reid, who returns to the series after a hiatus. Reid should add some spark to this night race that tends to get rather intense for this series.
On pit road will be Shannon Spake, Jamie Little, Dave Burns and Vince Welch. Jeff Gluck of scenedaily.com related earlier that Spake has just announced she is pregnant with twins. ESPN's Ryan McGee suggested that Marty and Ryan are good names for the new additions.
There is a very diverse field for this race. It is the time of the season when there are very different agendas in the Nationwide Series. Some drivers are trying to get recognized for next season at this big race where all the Cup Series owners are watching. Some are trying to keep sponsors while the Cup-whackers are mostly just aiming for the win.
This is a very fast track for the TV Director. The challenge is to blend the track level cameras with the high shots and the in-cars. The action is so fast that the easiest thing to do is stay wide and let them race. Should the ESPN coverage again tilt toward tight shots and in-cars, it could be a long night for TV viewers.
This post will serve to host your comments on the ESPN2 coverage of the Nationwide Series from Richmond. To add your TV-related comments, just click on the comments button below. Time for some real racing!
ReplyDeleteYEAH! Love Richmond!
ReplyDeleteGreat racing and tons of room for drama
Nice to see the fine folks of the Henrico County PD.
ReplyDeleteStill hard to believe! I got home from the DC area the night before. A man on my flight started his journey in Newark.
ReplyDeleteI like what they did in 2K2 that was a great tribute! Love when Coach gives the invocation he always does a great job!
Rusty working with new lips or what?
ReplyDeleteIt's got to be tough for Rusty to see DJ and Andy call this race while he sits in the infield with Brad and AB.
ReplyDelete@ Karen, lol.
ReplyDeleteLet's hope we get to see someone other than the Cup drivers tonight!
ReplyDeleteThe less I hear of Rusty, the better.
ReplyDeleteI hope Marty can get things pointed in the right direction like he did at ORP in Indy.
ReplyDeleteGoing to be hard to watch on TV instead of being there live. Had fun in ATL.
ReplyDeleteAlways better in person Steve!
ReplyDeleteHas Tim Brewer always worn a Mickey Mouse watch? Pretty appropriate considering the state of ESPN's coverage.
ReplyDeleteHehehehe! I keep getting distracted by the fingernails!
ReplyDeleteclassy start to the pre-race.
ReplyDeletewe will always remember . . .
Those uniforms look vaguely familiar....
ReplyDeleteLove the team that painted the car for 9-11 memory.
ReplyDeleteExcellent anthem.
ReplyDeleteBenny Gordon has the 9/11 Memorial car.
ReplyDeleteI never noticed the fingernails under YOU pointed them out, JD...thanks a lot for that...!
ReplyDeleteNice anthem. I'm pretty sure we've seen her before...either here or other track.
Ew, tough attendance night in Richmond. I know some tracks normally have stands closed off for NW races, but looks pretty rough tonight
ReplyDeleteJD, you talking about the MP uniforms? Hehehe
ReplyDeleteglenc1, at least they're clean.
ReplyDeleteglen, you have to pass along the TD fingernail info to others so they can share the curse!
ReplyDeleteKaren, Henrico County PD. Vaguely familiar...
I do miss Randy LaJoie on these shows, he and Marty make it fun.
oops TB fingernails..
ReplyDeleteI love my laptop I love my lap...
I have a friend there tonight...I'll have to ask her how the crowd looked to her. They always close off the backstretch. Last time I was there we were as far as the ends...like 50,000...probably not like that now.
ReplyDeleteJD, did the PA announcer pronounce Henrico correctly? That's not the way I thought it would be.
ReplyDeleteGlen, did the copter cam answer that for ya?
ReplyDeletewhen did they move victory lane at RIR?
ReplyDeleteJeez, that was quick.
ReplyDelete--KarenB
uh oh! what TB fingernail story?
ReplyDeleteCrash already :(
It's "hen" like a chicken. "R-eye" with a long i and then co.
ReplyDeleteHen-rii-co.
Karen, it's Hen RY co. I said it wrong til I actually went there.
ReplyDeleteI missed the copter shot, have to look for it again.
And Kyle is already complaining? Oy.
ReplyDeleteGlen, they are barely into T4 on the FS. BARELY.
ReplyDeleteYou got it right Glen! I lived there for a long time.
ReplyDeleteOkay, is it just me? There seems to be a real lack of 'electricity' tonight.
ReplyDeleteI guess the lack of a response tells me it isn't just me.
ReplyDeleteGymmie, JD called TB's fingernails creepy. Can't get that out of my mind.
ReplyDeleteDJ and AP better catch up to Marty because he is carrying them so far
ReplyDeleteThank you Marty Reid for making this fun. I forgot what it was for a while there!
ReplyDeleteTELL IT MARTY!
ReplyDelete"They don't even have a crew chief on the box"
What happened to the director from last week?
Marty is dragging Andy up into the excited mode, but DJ is not getting it.
ReplyDeleteYay Marty for mentioning the start-and-park cars!
ReplyDelete--KarenB
I finally saw the shot...definitely a small crowd.
ReplyDeleteI used to think it would be so cool to live in those little homes across Laburnum...just walk to the race...no traffic hassle! Once we saw a pile of Krispy Kremes laying in the street; must've fallen out of a pickup or something, what a waste, lol. Just one of those funny images that sticks in my head.
As said before, same director, every week.
ReplyDelete@sally: still trying to catch up on the day, plowing thru emails and various non-racing "stuff." will catch up ASAP.
ReplyDeletedid i just hear "black flagged for not having a crew chief in the pit box"? HOW does nascar let that even happen?!? a car shouldn't even get on the track w/o a cre chief, S&P or not! that's just ridiculous!
In-car cameraas don't work when all you can see are the fans in the stands.
ReplyDeleteMarty has been great with energy and S&P updates.
O lordy...in-race driver interview. Go Away!
red they were black flagged for being too slow, not for NOT having a CC.
ReplyDeleteMarty doing very well, gotta stay off the in cars for right now though I think and did not like the placement of the Keselowski fluffer.
I hate how they have to cut away from live action to do driver interview/tech center. Like we care! We want to see the actual racing!
ReplyDeleteTV crew guy, happy to have your comments.
ReplyDeleteWe all have the right to our opinions as well, OK?
Turns 1-2 a little more full glen
ReplyDeleteYup. Gotta expalin everything every week for 'those just joining us now' crowd. Wonder why they don't feel they have to do it for football or baseball? Maybe fans of 'traditional' sports are smarter and know the rules?
ReplyDeletethanks, david: but, but, but . . . i could swear that they booth said they were blackflagged for having no crew chief on the pit box, served the penalty and the "were on the way to the hauler." isn't that sorta like what you posted at 7:57? did we both hear it wrong?
ReplyDeleteor did i just get mired in the chaos of my evening?!?
REALLY, INTENSELY DISLIKING all these in-car cams. this is an ideal track for the big overhead, sweeping shot, in my (non-professional) opinion.
Wow, what a hit!
ReplyDeleteokay, busy tonite earlier. Now I get into racing! Like that they were going to focus on a mid-pack battle. Yes, I'm not stupid, I understand it was because it was Cuz Carl, but still...
ReplyDeleteMarty was being sarcastic because the 91 was all over the track slow bottlenecking people. Marty knows they are a S&P and I think it really grates his nerves to have these guys out there because he was pretty short on the Chapman update (22nd DNF of the year S&P-ing) as MR said. So they reported the BF on the 91 then threw that out there as salt in the wound.
ReplyDelete91 was in the way and NASCAR sent the message to get off the track I believe.
Blew that pit stop bad....wow.
ReplyDeleteuh oh! a mention of brake heat and melting the bead. i sense a tech center moment . . . b/c fans watching a n'wide race at richmond have never truly understood what all that means (sarcasm intended.)
ReplyDeleteand off for a late dinner: will catch up later, gang!
red, at Watkins Glen, Robby G ran the 04 with PJ Jones. I saw six guys standing in the pits, but there wasn't much equipment. I figured out they were really Menard's guys from 'next door' and there was no crew. Ran a few laps, Cup official pretends to look at the grill, and off he goes to the garage. Just a farce. In Robby's case, it was a one time thing I can sort of forgive since he's struggling himself.
ReplyDeleteBut I think there were other pits that had no crews at all. I don't think it's a rule (although there is one that a driver can't crew himself, they made that one after Shepherd changed his own tires a few years ago.)
Hi everyone. Is it just my 50 inch plasma or is anyone else having a problem with the top crawl being cut in half.
ReplyDelete@ Sally 8:03, umm, yeah sweetie, doncha know we're all just a bunch of rednecks?? we coudln't POSSIBLY remember from wk to wk...;)
ReplyDelete@ red, ditto about the no CC.
ReplyDeleteI'm a little behind. Had to make dinner and clean up.
Is it just me, or has Dale Jarrett been quieter than normal tonight?
ReplyDeleteHoly smokes, WIDE SHOTS!
ReplyDeleteToo many tailpipes on this coverage right now. Late cutting.
ReplyDelete@Pamm...y'all got that raht!
ReplyDeleteYeah JD noticed that too, but Im trying to be positive tonight. Settle for baby steps, wideshots first then faster cuts next week.
ReplyDeletedarbar,
ReplyDeleteIts you. Everything looks fine on my screen.
Gotta be weird for DJ. One race trying to fill in the holes with Punch and then Reid alongside having fun and calling the entire race.
ReplyDeleteSeems like Andy has him figured out though.
Oops! That concentrating on the Cup guys is catching up. Forgot Brad K was in front! Again...Oy.
ReplyDeleteUh oh, the curse has hit Kevin. Lucky to still be on the track, though.
ReplyDeletedar, keep that up and we will demand a TDP drug test!
ReplyDeleteYou know, if we all play the drinking game tomorrow for every time they do a '...if the race ended now' for the crapshoot positions, we would all be unconscious by lap 50!
ReplyDeleteHope they talk a little about Bobby Hamilton Jr tonight. He has had one of those seasons and the limited races he has are auditions for something full time next year.
ReplyDeleteKvapil trying to move on up
Sally, last season the hype on this race was just horrible.
ReplyDeleteEveryone but the Chase drivers was suddenly *poof* gone!
Which is exactly what we will get tomorrow night! I'm already so sick of the whole 'who's in and who's out' crap I could scream! And I really don't care who makes it!
ReplyDeleteVery hard to continually see the cars racing away from the camera tonight. Really changes the TV focus when the cars race toward the viewer.
ReplyDeleteHey! could the hype be some sort of twisted aversion therapy? Trying to make fans get totally tuned off to the whole thing? Hmmm.
ReplyDeleteRunning a "who is fastest on the track of the top 15 or 20" would be pretty useful right now. That or start to go through the field for a reset
ReplyDeleteTY Karen :)
ReplyDelete@red--I was wondering the same thing. I know they "allow" no pit crew for S&Pers but how can one START a race with no CC?
Marty is awesome! Love him Hope he stays! We actually get REAL information when he's on and he sounds like he wants to be there unlike a certain someone else.
@David--thanks for that clarif I thought the BF was for not having a CC
i don't know JD...all of a sudden, I'm seeing more grills and fewer tailpipes...are they listening?
ReplyDeleteMarty is good at pointing out what he wants to see and calling the action. Once the excitement starts to spread, you can see the changes.
ReplyDeleteNo one phoning this one in.
Anyone know if Matt Carter is out of the race or just off track? There have been no intervals or status (out/off) since lap 40.
ReplyDeleteThis group just doesn't have the chemistry or excitement Marty, Rusty and Randy had. Marty has been great giving us lots of info, real play-by-play, and having fun. But he does seem to be dominating the broadcast a bit, and the others are not chirping in. Dale Jarrett is having a hard time getting away from a play-by-play announcer and back into the role of analyst. Andy has been good, but disappeared the last 5 minutes.
ReplyDeleteThat was a nice shot of the Harvick pass. The overhead view worked well there. Better than the on-board. However, JD commented on the tailpipes and they just wanted to make sure you saw the BIG tailpipe stickers on the 11 car.
ReplyDeleteIs there a way to watch or listen to this race on my computer?
ReplyDeleteGood to see a regular up front right now! :)
ReplyDeleteNever mind, Matt Carter's back on track.
ReplyDeleteYes annon.
ReplyDeleteJust-in-case...
I wonder how Shannon Spake is going to be able to hold up on pit row for the November races. I can't imagine being seven months pregnant with twins and standing all day.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to Shannon, though!
--KarenB
Buschseries61, great comment.
ReplyDeleteNice recap going now.
ReplyDeleteGood for Shannon, although I could care less 'bout things like that.
ReplyDeleteNo offense, but you don't spend as many years as I do fighting tabloid trash to see it happen in NASCAR.
Getting ready to have a battle for the lead in the next 20 laps
ReplyDeleteOK, Marty...crank it!
ReplyDeleteLOOOOOOVE that enthusiasm from Marty on the the 99 pass.
ReplyDeleteMartin Vincent,
ReplyDeleteMatt Carter has about 10 laps to go to pass all the S&Ps tonight.
I can't get enough of that commercial.
ReplyDeleteDarnell was wise to let Steven go. Though a caution would've been fun.
ReplyDeleteWait until she drives in the Trucks and N'wide races in Daytona and sells the place out.
ReplyDeleteIt is going to by wild...
I think the only commercial TSN managed to sell for the race is for Slap Chop. Every single commercial break I have to listen that obnoxious Vince dude tell me to love his nuts. I'd welcome the relief of an ED ad.
ReplyDelete--KarenB
be wild...
ReplyDeleteI love m...you know!
You really think Danica will pull that many people? and for how long?
ReplyDeleteROFL Karen, did you see his mugshot when he got busted?
ReplyDeleteSally, if she jumps in Brad K's Nationwide car and a KHI truck, she will be selling more t-shirts than Junior.
ReplyDelete50% of fans female
@JD - Maybe Vince should do this all day, it might keep him busy and out of trouble.
ReplyDeleteYes! Caution flag pushes back the tech center!
ReplyDeleteMarty is gonna get in trouble by NASCAR for questioning the debris. :)
@ JD
ReplyDeleteOh yeah! That hooker really put a beatin' on ol' Vince...
--KarenB
@ KarenB, lol.
ReplyDeleteHow did that guy ever make it to TV?
LOL! @Karen! Yes loving his nuts is better than oh a whole list of stuff. I just added you to Twitter :D
ReplyDelete@JD--yes that mugshot was something else!
I cursed Billy Mays, but man that Slap Chop knucklehead is WORSE!
ReplyDeleteDenny, they gotta figure that stuff out.
Im holding out on my optimism they talk about some of the NW regs at some point...
I loved Marty calling out NASCAR for that fake caution. Andy and Marty are still doing great, DJ is really not.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of commercials...
ReplyDeleteI have to watch that Danica/female patrol officer commercial 20 times a day because it plays constantly on a couple of channels I watch. Have you ever noticed how often she bobs her head? It's noticeable when she's being shot from the front, but if you watch carefully she does it constantly when she's shown from behind too.
I can't figure out if she's a Danica bobble-head or one of those dogs with the bobbing heads people used to put in the rear windows of their cars in the '60s.
--KarenB
Any mention yet of Bobby Hamilton Jr, Mike Wallace or Kenny Wallace?
ReplyDeleteAwwwww, it was a local break and they could not take it back.
ReplyDeleteShould be a fun replay!!
It's Vince again! Fettucini, linguine, martini, bikini!
ReplyDeleteArrrrrrrrrgh! Where's Kevin Conway when you need him?
(Speaking of which, Conway and ExtenZe have signed a multi-year deal.)
--KarenB
Fail. Did the tire fall off the #38? Marty was talking & ESPN cut him off to go to commercial.
ReplyDeleteI just noticed that in the hype they play for the crapshoot they use a LOT of in car camera shots. I guess that's truth in advertising.
ReplyDeleteJD said=
ReplyDeleteSally, if she jumps in Brad K's Nationwide car and a KHI truck, she will be selling more t-shirts than Junior.
50% of fans female
ummm, sorry JD, but the majority of the racing gals I know think she's a word that will get my comment deleted. And not sooooo talented in the race dept either. I can't STAND her!!
What do you figure the odds are that the #38 and #20 take each other out before the end of the race?
ReplyDelete@Pamm...I agree. Just because she's female doesn't mean that any/all female nascar fans will be fans of her. More likely the guys.
ReplyDeletethis is getting intense!
ReplyDeletehave i mentioned i LOVE Richmond?!
Pammm, I know what you mean but she is going to fill the stands with new fans who would never go to the races before. My email was staggering.
ReplyDeleteCould be the next JPM or the new Dario! Who knows?
See how much more effective it is to take the cameras earlier like that and let the cars race toward you?
ReplyDeleteThe next Erin Crocker maybe. Dario never had sponsors lined up like Erin did and Danica would.
ReplyDeleteFor me, Danica is kind of like the IRL version of Paul Menard: mid-pack racer who gets a ride due to guaranteed sponsorship money.
ReplyDeleteGranted, both of them are way better drivers than I am, but neither of them is championship material.
Aaaaaaaaaaand here's Vince again! Every five minutes, whether I need to see him or not.
--KarenB
If Danica is gracious to the media/fans and has a grateful to be "here" attitude, she'll do fine.
ReplyDeleteI like that Soccer music.
Doesn't ESPN have enough to show on the weekends. Now soccer?
ReplyDeleteDang, Brad D. has been hanging around Rusty too long. He just called the drivers "cats".
ReplyDelete--KarenB
Soccer is the reason that the one hour NASCAR Now preview show is on at 9AM tomorrow! Reset those VCR's and DVR's.
ReplyDeleteI just can't get up that early on a saturday, especially as I finish off my 5th "Jamie McMurray" special.
ReplyDeleteBrad Daugherty adds absolutely nothing to these ESPN shows.
ReplyDeleteHe is nothing but noise !!
ok just reading thru comments but can NOT get into NASCAR these days...I guess why bother since the telecasts just bug me.
ReplyDeleteSaw earlier comments about too many in CAR CAMS...sigh
re: Danica. I can't believe women lover her 'just because she's a woman driver.'. Who thinks like that?
she is a decent IRL driver but her saturation level got to this house a year or so ago..and her behavior as not being thoughtful to others (hit a guy in the pits a year or so ago and NEVER asked how he was doing the rest of the race??? NASCAR guys would never do that)
So, I dunno. I want to see IRL get better sponsors and a more popular channel.
I am very sleepy watching this race just now and can't decide if it's camera work, the race or guys talking on tv....
Did they decide a gum wrapped caused that one caution I read about that Marty questioned? :)
Least I had some chocolate cake after dinner...or my mood might be...well, not as laid back.
goodness! not many in the stands..is half the track closed?
ReplyDelete@ Dot-from everything I've read about DP-NO way she is fan friendly. imo, that will sink her in Nascar faster than poop goes thru a chute!!
ReplyDeleteKen,
ReplyDeleteYou mean "enthusiastic" noise!
Pammm, I think that is going to be the issue for sure.
ReplyDeleteJD -
ReplyDeleteImagine traffic duty this wknd, then uniform nostalgia will go away quickly
Brewer's back with his ball bat. At least it actually might apply to racing here instead of Atlanta.
ReplyDeleteman, i can't stand getting nascar basics explained to me via the "tech center" each race! it's just become so insulting. seriously, espn: is there anascar fan watching a n'wide race who doesnt know what's involved in getting a fender off a tire?!?
ReplyDeleteamong my suggestions for changes in 2010: eliminate the tech center.
Walter...absolutely!
ReplyDeleteDid they just waste 20 seconds letting Tim Brewer explain when to use a hammer? Even someone watching for the first time would understand without a visual demo.
ReplyDeleteI agree red. We can lose Tim "Fingernails" Brewer without a tear being shed.
ReplyDelete--KarenB
Dented fenders can do that to a tire? Good grief, how lame do they think fans are?
ReplyDeleteBSPN, use your money wisely. Trade out Tim B for Randy in the booth. Rusty's already there. DJ & AP can fly in on Sun.
in football do they show the shoes each week? In baseball? Shoelaces vs velcro.
ReplyDeleteZZZzzz z z
Why do they continue to come back from commercials to Bestwick and the studio? It TOTALLY ruins the flow of the race. Let the booth handle the race and the pit studio handle the prerace and postrace.
ReplyDeleteIt's to the point where if they come back from commercial and I hear Bestwick I just ignore the TV for about 5 minutes. Talk about TV 101.
this is fun!
ReplyDeletethe camera work sure doesn't show you what size track they are on.
ReplyDeletejd, here's the thing for me about danica patrick. it's not that she's not a good racer -- she is. and it's not that she hasn't brought fans to her sport -- she has. but we have a daughter who is a gigantic race fan and became hooked on irl b/c of danica -- until danica started doing the provocative and racy photo shoots and ads. at that point, our teenage daughter turned her fan attentions to other irl-ers. danica made her uncomfortable and then angry. as our daughter said, danica is making it so much harder to female drivers to be taken seriously as racers.
ReplyDeleteand as i said in your danica to nascar column: if she doesn't learn how to be a nascar fan-friendly racer, she'll sink like a rock in our sport.
WooHoo! Kevin wants it BAD!
ReplyDeleteJD -
ReplyDeletecaught much of race on MRN ...they pumped Trevor Bayne performance and how well Harvick and Edwards were running ...haven't heard HPD officer who did such a great job with anthem since ISC bought out Sawyer family ...he was special ...oops, Denny paid the price on that one, huh
Marty was awesome during that whole battle. JP, take note!
ReplyDeletewell, hamlin did that all by himself. stinks to be him tonight.
ReplyDeleteWow. That'll put Denny in a good mood. At least the heat's off the pit crew. Glad we got to see it live.
ReplyDeleteWalter, I was hoping he would do it again, but I think it was the JGR public relations person who sang it. No clue why.
ReplyDeleteMarty is so much fun and easy to listen to.
I agree, David. He was excited, not somnolent.
ReplyDeleteI guess Marty didn't get the memo from the ESPN brass about toning it down.
--KarenB
Paging Steve Wallace...
ReplyDelete@ David, lol.
ReplyDeleteLittle late race drama coming..
ReplyDeleteWow, slamming the commercials.
ReplyDeletealways good to have tv crew guy on ...RIR is a neat place for wide shots and aerial views are extra special ...some interesting stories down in the running, but haven't heard a thing since I tuned in ESPN ...ooooh, DJ mentioned Rooty's run tonight ...musta missed the stay on the leader memo or Marty's rubbing off
ReplyDeleteCaution
ReplyDelete--KarenB
Two football games in one night?
ReplyDelete@red--agreed! IF they're going to use it at least EDUCATE us. Teach us something more advanced. No more NA$CAR 101!
ReplyDelete@David--I agree! My excited got excited! <3 Marty
Steve Wallace, please answer your page. Your in the top 10 awfully late and haven't done anything JWT-ish...
ReplyDeleteNevermind, phantom debris.
Denny gonna take the wave around.
They are having a tough time finding a rhythm tonight.
ReplyDeleteBlown pit stops, bad in-car timing and very late on cutting cameras.
Weird vibe...
So much for fuel mileage.
ReplyDeleteDid you guys hear that the US Open tennis that smushed NASCAR Now has been so messed up by rain that the men's final is going to be on Monday? Wild...
ReplyDeleteJD. I thought so too. There's good racing going on, but for some reason, it just isn't translating well.
ReplyDelete@ JD, I was going to ask you about that. What a mess.
ReplyDeleteThat wideshot at low level of the backstretch is so powerful when the cars are racing. Like to see it.
ReplyDeleteIn car camera's - why?
ReplyDeletei have a basic race/tv question:
ReplyDeletei feel as if the same information is stated repeatedly thru out the race broadcast. for example, i haven't been watching the entire race but i've heard about edwards coming up from the back of the pack, hamlin's wanting to win one at his home track, etc. at least a half dozen times tonight.
is it the assumption that viewers tune in at random times thru put the broadcast as opposed to watching from flag to flag? and that the booth has to "fill in" viewers who may have missed the earlier explanation?
or is it something else?
is there EVER good in car cam timing?
ReplyDeleteRed,
I turned on Danica same reason your daughter did. I've NOTHING against capitalizing on good looks but Mama Mia, it can be done tastefully...even in these coarse 'anything goes times.'
wow, I tuned in for the end and it's a in car cam-palooza :(
Dodge...it's a sad story. I've been watching the race. I can't look at the screen & type! But I can't see how Dodge can stay in when everyone's leaving. 3 teams in Cup?
ReplyDeleteI wonder if Steve Wallace isn't a victim at tims that we think he's the perp.....
best production call of the night. stay with the battles since the lead is uneventful
ReplyDeleteJD, yes, I saw that the tennis coverage time is in chaos. Didn't even finish the men's quarterfinal. As you've said, just like racing & baseball, can't play in the rain.
ReplyDelete@ glen
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't be surprised to see Penske switch to another manufacturer, if not this offseason then next. Maybe he'll go back to Ford.
--KarenB
Dang! My driver wins and he can't do his backflip.
ReplyDeleteWoooohoooooo!
--KarenB
Funny, they say Carl needs to get out of the car tonight. So what does Carl do? He wins.
ReplyDeleteSaid he is most comfortable in the car so why not stay in it?
Did you see that? They stayed on the S/F line. More of that, please.
ReplyDeleteNow we know why he does backflips: he can't do a burnout to save his life.
ReplyDelete--KarenB
thanks for showing all the cars finish! and also thanks for showing the battles further back in the pack when edwards had run away with the lead.
ReplyDeletei appreciate both decisions.
(but please lose the flying heads and go back to the drop-down finish grid!)
Karen, I had the same thought. But they've have to announce it shortly to be ready for February. Dodge issued a statement saying they're committed. But apparently no one's committed to them.
ReplyDeletedarn, flying hedes agin...caught 4-5 cars then in-car shot ...oh, I know only a half-dozen sponsor decals on that shot ...maybe Carl will do skin-the-cat on crutches
ReplyDeleteCongratulations Cousin Carl
ReplyDeleteoops: snarky young mr busch is back!
ReplyDeleteVince got the short straw. Weed not too gracious. Boo hoo, 3rd.
ReplyDeleteKind of a weird mix tonight, huh?
ReplyDeleteSome good parts and some bad parts. Great finish line coverage and some good camera work. Bad in-cars and rough pit coverage.
Andy outstanding and speaking up, DJ strangely low key.
Tomorrow should be interesting..
Shrub has to move hand to show energy drink label clearly ...boring comments, but at least he got in front of a mike at the end
ReplyDeleteTHAT is her first question???
ReplyDeleteYou expected something more relevant or insightful?
ReplyDeleteKyle was better on MRN, they asked if he learned anything about the track. Says its gonna be a major slowdown in the run, shocked how slow they got tonight so tomorrow should be worse in center of corner.
ReplyDeleteDodge thing: This may or may not be a bad thing. Dodge can't afford to have a ton of teams since they weren't paying RPM too much. A concentrated effort with Penske may actually be the best thing Dodge could do in the short run.
ok, well, i'm outta here tonight!
ReplyDeletewill see what tomorrow brings but we're planning to hit the infamous st sophia grecian festival tomorrow so i may not be back in time for the cup race! will have baclava and dolmades and babaganoush for each of my planeteer buds!
(and a few cup of greek coffee! but no ouzo -- drat!)
MRN winner interview:
ReplyDeleteMRN: what a run
Carl: my crew won it for me tonight
Carl also thanks fans
MRN: what's it like coming down pit road and coming out picking up spots?
Carl: makes my job alot easier
MRN: how's the foot?
Carl: least of my concerns
MRN: What did you learn about the track? Know Roush has struggled in Cup as of late
Carl: shocked how well he qualified, left the first part of the question unanswered.
Didn't hear Jamie's but let me guess: "How's your foot Carl?!"
Even Marty and Andy could not pull this one out. DJ and Andy have been on the air for like seven hours.
ReplyDeleteESPN really needs a second team for the N'wide races, even when they are at the same track.
Dump the Infield Pit Studio and add a broadcast team.
Hey guys, there will be a "Your Turn" column up in a min for your race wraps!
ReplyDeleteTake a minute and leave us a comment or come back later!
Thanks, we get some post race tonight!
JD
David:
ReplyDeleteJamie's opening question was....
"What was it like being in front of the fans and you couldn't do a backflip"
This is a half-decent post-race. I'm surprised they're staying around so long!
ReplyDelete--KarenB
