Is Your ABC Station Carrying The Pre-Race Show?

Note: Please check your TV listings. If your local ABC station is going to preempt the NASCAR Countdown pre-race show scheduled for 7PM to run local news, please take a moment to tell us what the station is and where you live.

We are looking for the call letters, KTLA or WCBC...and the market it serves. Thanks!

    GO BLUE!

  2. Barring overrun of Michigan-Notre Dame, KTVX in Salt Lake City has Countdown on the schedule.

Hope the game doesn't create undue chaos.

  3. The football game is a problem everywhere though. At the least, I'm a Michigan fan, so I won't have to change channels!

Anyway, WXYZ in Detroit has Countdown scheduled. So does WZZM in Grand Rapids. Checked KABC in Los Angeles, they have it scheduled as well.

  4. Looks like Seattle, WA and Fargo, ND (that serves a big area) are the two stations right now running news instead of Countdown.

  5. @ JD, if football runs over, will they move Countdown to BSPNCL or BSPNNews channel?

  6. Dot, there are 3.5 hours before Countdown and 4 hours before before the race. Should not be a problem.

For the Nationwide races, ESPN puts the pre-race show only 3 hours after the football game.

    Never works.

  7. Unrelated note of interest:
Has anyone heard the promos for Richmond this week? They have a very bad error...
Mr. Announcer says the line "the last 400 miles before the Chase" during the promo.
Funny, but for that line to work, Richmond would have to be a 1-mile track.
Correct line should have said "the final 400 LAPS before the Chase."
Please tell me I'm not the only onne who noticed...

    Thanks,
    Tom

  8. KOCO Oklahoma City has Countdown scheduled. Additionally, there is a 30-minute local fottball wrapup show scheduled before that, which would figure to be pre-empted should Mich/ND run long.

    Ditto for KTUL Tulsa.

  9. Tom, I caught that too...

  10. More markets that will be airing Countdown...
    KFSN in Fresno, CA
    KGO in San Francisco
    KERO in Bakersfield
    KNXV in Phoenix
    KMGH in Denver

  11. I was the one who told you on Twitter that the Fargo, ND ABC station is airing the local news rather than the pre-race. I didn't mention the call letters for the station in my tweet. It is WDAY. I did send them an email (and I was civil) expressing my disappointment. Hopefully they make a different decision for the Charlotte race in Oct (which starts at 6pm central, if I read the schedule right).

  12. WJLA (Washington DC) has the Countdown scheduled @ 4pm (following ND v. Michigan).

  13. WKBW (Buffalo)
    WHAM (Rocheter)
    WSYR (Syracuse)

all have Countdown. But it's not unusual for them to not have news on weekends with sporting events. Also, some of them have extra digital channels that carry news.

  14. Sorry-- WJLA @ 7pm (not 4)

  15. More markets with Countdown...
    WFAA - Dallas
    KMBC - Kansas City
    KSTP - Minneapolis

Looks like most of the country should be good to go with Countdown.

  17. WPVI in Philly will have Countdown.

  18. KCRG in Eastern Iowa has Countdown on schedule. It has a digital channel available for news.

  19. Early development on UM-ND...
Already one hour into broadcast, and the game is barely in the second quarter.
I'm suspicious that Countdown may be in jeopardy unless the pace picks up.

  20. Not showing on Wtae Pittsburgh, Pa. The local News instead @ 7:00pm

  21. Colour me confused. My on-screen TV guide and the KOMO Seattle ABC station list NASCAR Countdown at 4:00 PST. I see no mention of local news.

I'll keep you updated in a couple of hours.

Make sure and come back and tell us if they do the news.

    Maybe the phone is ringing...

  24. @ JD

Phone calls or no, why would they even consider pre-empting coverage of the biggest race of the year? When did you first hear that they were changing their minds about the local newscast? How quickly can those on-screen guides be updated?

  25. karen,

Each local station is a little business. They make a lot of money from their local news.

By putting the ND game right up against NASCAR, the Saturday local news is cancelled.

That is a big revenue hit in many markets. We went through this last season.

Wait until the end of the race, stations have left at 10PM for local news and never even referenced that the live race had only laps to go.

Broadcast TV is a very different animal from the control of cable.

  26. My station (KXLY-TV in Spokane) does have NASCAR Countdown scheduled. We shall see.

  27. I didn't know the pre-race show was must see TV.

  28. Danger, Will Robinson!
Only 20 minutes until Countdown is supposed to hit the air, and Michigan and Notre Dame still have 9 minutes left in the fourth...Wolverines up 5.

At this rate, on-time start of Countdown is in trouble.

  29. KETV in Omaha just came on with sports news instead of the remainder of the prerace. We'll see if they cut it off at the half hour.
