Live Blogging The Nationwide Series From Charlotte (7:30PM - ESPN2)
Here we go with a very fast and exciting Nationwide Series race from the Lowe's Motor Speedway. ESPN2 is providing the live coverage.
Allen Bestwick will start the day with the pre-race NASCAR Countdown program. Alongside of him will be Rusty Wallace and Brad Daugherty. Tim Brewer will be in the Tech Garage. On pit road will be Shannon Spake, Jamie Little, Dave Burns and Vince Welch.
The broadcast team will be Marty Reid, Dale Jarrett and Andy Petree. ESPN has been working Jarrett and Petree very hard. They will already have been on the air for many hours by the time that the race rolls around..
This is one of the most challenging races of the season for the ESPN Producer and Director. Action happens to fast that using the in-car cameras live or playing back recorded features is almost impossible.
This post will serve to host your comments about the Nationwide Series race from LMS on ESPN2. To post your comments, just click on the comments button below. This is a family-friendly website, please keep that in mind when posting. Thanks for stopping by.
Edwards' car - is it a mouse, or a rat?
ReplyDeleteThat is Digger on Edward's car
ReplyDeleteOk Marty says it's a mouse! I don't care if it's a rat or a mouse - I hate rodents.
ReplyDeleteI hope they are getting some good money for that!
ReplyDeleteHi everyone, sorry to be late to the party!
"No, that is NOT Digger's cousin on Carl Edwards car! Keep your rodents straight!" 5 minutes ago
ReplyDeleteHow about Digger, Jr.
ESPN showing the fans!!!! Imagine that.
ReplyDeleteDigger II: The Sequel.
ReplyDeleteIs there a good crowd there? I'm still @ work.
ReplyDeleteDot
Dot, go home early. I will write you a note.
ReplyDeleteThanks JD. I'm cuttin' out in a couple of minutes.
ReplyDeleteDot
Man, it looks cold!
ReplyDeleteMore people on Pit Road than there were in the stands at Cali last week.
ReplyDeleteThey said quals last night at LMS were empty as well.
ReplyDeleteI have a feeling two day shows are in our future.
Trace Adkins singing the National Anthem
ReplyDeleteWeather Underground says it's 56 at the track right now, and going down to the mid 40s tonight.
ReplyDeleteFortunately, winds are calm.
I didn't know tonight's race was going to double as a Baptist revival!
ReplyDeleteI've never heard the phrase "track-bangin'" in an invocation before.
ReplyDeleteI love Trace Adkins, but this...this is just not his song.
ReplyDeleteWe will know NASCAR is in dire straits if they trim the fields back to 1980's levels. Two day shows work for me if we can get the tv. Streaming internet of all track activities-with or without all the gadgetry- should be a goal.
ReplyDeletehad tv muted,,, missed the prayer...singer tweaked the anthem in a few odd places but ok
ReplyDeleteThis reminds me I wanted to tell all of you tonight. All this week on Imus in the Morning on Fox Business, his sports guy is Warner Wolf. Warner has been mentioning Jesse McCartney all week and even a couple of times played Jesse's missing the line of the National Anthem from the NW race last week. Also, early one morning I woke up and couldn't sleep and put on the tv and on the Comedy Channel (I think) was Kevin and his Extenz Informercial. I couldn't believe it.
ReplyDeleteVicky, too funny.
ReplyDeleteTrace messed up a little ... but since he's one of the few entertainers that's done a tour over in Iraq & Afghanistan, I'll cut him some slack ...
ReplyDeleteVicky, was ExtenZe sponsoring the Imus broadcast?? Just curious.
ReplyDeleteCan;t believe all the tweets about the prayer? What the heck was said that got folks so fired up?:)
ReplyDeleteAndrew - Trace usually does a better job ... But, he's still one of the best that NASCAR's found in the past few years ...
ReplyDeletePlus, the cold can cause issues for the vocal cords ...
Sophia - Invocation sorta got turned into an "old fashioned revival" ... VERY spirited ...
ReplyDeleteSophia - imagine a NASCAR ad on Spike TV.
ReplyDeleteI saw Sarah's Tweet she was gonna give the command
ReplyDeleteMan, ESPN is just knocking it out of the park so far. Wow.
ReplyDeletetx dave...never watched Spike tv...but I guess I really missed something special...darn.
ReplyDeleteDave in OKC, (hopefully it was a joke about Imus' sponsor) but no Imus is sponsored by different companies but he and Warner talked about the singer missing a whole line from the anthem all week long.
ReplyDeleteAP seems to have recovered from his midseason slump.
ReplyDeleteI prefer a Trace Adkins (baritone) singing the National Anthem. At least that sort of voice doesn't screech the final verse!
ReplyDeleteThanks Vicky (I WAS joking).
ReplyDeleteHey, AB and Marty could be a dynamic duo for ESPN.
ReplyDeleteNow, it is going to be up to the Director. As you guys have seen over the past several N'wide races, he can either make it better or just kill the flow with the camera choices.
Either way....here we go.
Dave - ok - got it.
ReplyDeleteI'm keeping my fingers crossed!
ReplyDeleteBD nailed it on Countdown: "It's not just the Kyle and Carl show tonight!"
ReplyDeleteDarn, Sophia, that you missed that invocation. Doubt it will make YouTube but it should.
ReplyDeleteHey all, good nighT for racin'
ReplyDeleteHi everyone! Hopefully this will be a good race tonight.
ReplyDeleteS&P Predictions:
#02 Andy Ponstein
#07 Danny O'Quinn
#47 Chase Miller
#49 Mark Green?
#90 Johnny Chapman
#92 Dennis Setzer
Are they gonna talk to Digger, Jr. too?
ReplyDeleteDave in OKC - Yeah, it's also the "Joey the Wunderkind" show ... ;-)
ReplyDeleteLove those pink cars lining up side by side.
ReplyDeleteThanks, great info.
ReplyDeleteFurther back...says Marty. Hello Director!!!!
ReplyDeleteSo after 2 days off looks like this place is alive again
ReplyDeleteCameras are still over zoomed and framed too tight.
ReplyDelete5 Braun prepared cars tonight, 10, 32, 38, 43, 87
ReplyDeleteWow - They've managed to mention two-thirds of the field in the first seven laps. I'm happy JP is enjoying family time tonight, but I wish he could take notes.
ReplyDeleteMarty and Andy are full of energy. Dale Jarrett...not so much.
ReplyDeleteWoooo, Marty has old DJ and Andy fired up right now. Hope it holds.
ReplyDeleteLooks like 3 S&P'ers already.
ReplyDeleteGood shots, what can I say.
ReplyDeleteYou could tell DJ was tired last week for sure. Wish they had brough in Randy LaJoie for this one.
ReplyDeleteCRAP! wreck on commercial
ReplyDeleteBad break for Stenhouse there. =/
ReplyDeleteGood coverage so far (*knock on wood*) but DJ sounds a bit tired. Great efforts from Marty and Andy!
ok, i was planning to skip this one and spend time w/family tonight, mourning the phillies loss in game 2 but the comments here just forced me to tune in.
ReplyDeleteand just in time for a wreck caution . . .
Hey, they had the replays and Marty updates the start and parks.
ReplyDeletePretty good night for the gang so far.
Another issue during commercial.
ReplyDeleteWow. For once maybe good use on an onboard? Nice aerial shot there, wish we would have had that during the big one last week at Cali.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad Ricky Stenhouse is ok. That is a dangerous position to hit the wall
ReplyDeleteForgot to mention - lovely use of the aerial shots! We need more of them.
ReplyDeleteCars really wreck hard here. So much speed around this track.
ReplyDeleteEdwards almost stopped on a closed Pit Road. I'd like to hear the radio transmission on this one.
ReplyDeleteANY free radio online tonight? PSK & NPV school junk...no free NASCAR radio?
ReplyDeletewow that 17 is way out of alignment!
A dig at the title sponsor? Nice!
ReplyDeleteSophia. No. They used to a few years ago via n.com but not anymore.
ReplyDeletewhat i dislike about the n'wide series in a nutshell: 10 of the top 15 are cup regulars (11 if you count gilliland.)
ReplyDeleteMan, Ricky's a little guy! Jason Keller might even have a couple inches on him.
ReplyDeletedid jaimie say that stenhouse is going to be doing practice and qualifying for kenseth next week? i'm assuming she means in n'wide, yes?
ReplyDeleteI put a transcript of the invocation at http://faithinthefastlane.blogspot.com/
ReplyDeleteLOL @Andrew! Yes that was awesome!
ReplyDeleteGreat job Trace!
@Sally--I *love* Trace's voice! I wish he had won the Apprentice show :)
Glad Ricky is OK! Scary!
Yes! Jamie asked Ricky if he was ok first. The word 'feel' was not used. I see improvement.
ReplyDeleteAndrew, you mean Leffler.
ReplyDeleteBobby Jr is down there too.
87, Braun: confirmed by pit sign.
Man, they will kick themselves if they don't win tonight
#49 Mark Green has returned to the track to pick up 3 more points.
ReplyDeleteCome on ESPN, stay wide and use more aerial shots! Don't cave!
ReplyDeleteMark Green might be back out.
ReplyDeletewhat a GREAT aerial shot on the restart! excellent!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Brenda!
ReplyDeleteESPN messed up the ticker. Stenhouse and Mark Green are 39th and 40th, not 42nd and 43rd.
ReplyDeleteYes, Brenda, thanks. Sophia will get the gist. Sorry she missed it.
ReplyDeleteEqual size box option not enabled?
ReplyDeletePartial screen tech center? Timely? Relevant to the race?
ReplyDeleteWho the hell is directing this race and where is the garbage we are used to?!
Why does TB need to be full screen? Another disabled option?
ReplyDeleteAnother useless tech center. Sheetmetal + contact with tire = boom!
ReplyDeleteSorry, little late to the party but just got home from work here on the left coast. In rewinding the DVR to watch the invocation and anthem, there was just something wrong with the sheepish smile on Kevin Conway's significant other face as she's standing next to him decked out in his Extenze firesuit.
ReplyDeleteOnce they did the double boxes, it was car cams, tech center, tight shots. What happened.
ReplyDeleteNorCalFan is on a roll already.
ReplyDeleteCharlie said...
ReplyDelete"Once they did the double boxes, it was car cams, tech center, tight shots. What happened."
Vapor Lock.
Brenda
ReplyDeleteThanks for the invocation...wish I would've heard the delivery.
Now I have to figure how soon to wash my hair...I have blankets over me and a cat lying next to me and the house is about 66. Cold and rainy out...but the in car cam stuff has begun...and seems like lots of commercials and they started 9 laps in to the race . .
The ticker is still messed up from 39th - 43rd. Is anyone at ESPN awake or care?
ReplyDeleteI'm here.
ReplyDelete@Charlie
ReplyDeleteMy thoughts exactly
Nice to see the #43 in a Petty scheme again, even if it's not technically being fielded by RPM.
ReplyDeleteWe're leaning towards the more tailights than headlights trend again. Hope it switches back after the break.
Wanted to update on what you are missing. Dave Blaney is cutting through the field. Restarted 33rd and is now up to 16th.
ReplyDeleteuh oh...did I see moisture on a camera just a second ago
ReplyDelete"Vapor Lock" LOL
ReplyDeleteYes, I meant Leffler.
Andrew, historically, it has never gotten better later in the race.
ReplyDeleteSingle car shots...it is like a switch was flipped.
ReplyDeleteNew drinking game: Each time they mention the laps led record. Drink.
ReplyDeletePatrick, is there already a drinking game for 5th in points?
ReplyDeleteWhat happened to the director that was doing the first 13 laps.
ReplyDeleteIf the drinking game were related to parroting statistics we would be comatose by the checkered.
ReplyDeletelosing interest with the micky fricky split screen nonsense...and CC cam already.
ReplyDeleteoff to wash me head..if anybody types in next 5 minutes its my cat, Oscar
Stewart once sent a long message on Twitter that looked likeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaassssssssddd one night.
;-)
Single car shot/2 car battle/bumper csm/double video boxes. Repeat.
ReplyDeleteAnd we started with so much promise tonight...
ReplyDeleteGrenn flag stops in the next 5-10 laps.
I missed most of qualifying ... But ...
ReplyDeleteDid the blondes ever say "what" happened to Kevin Hamlin in practice yesterday??
I had to read his own Facebook to find out what happened & why he ate the wall ...
My guess is the director for the first thirteen laps has been bound, gagged and stuffed in a closet by now and the production truck has been commandeered by artistes bent on an ESPY nomination.
ReplyDeleteNote to Marty, show us more NW regulars instead of cup guys.
ReplyDeleteDon't know if the 'Hotel Planner' commercial is regional, but it makes me think of the SNL Ambiguously G-- Duo. Anyone?
ReplyDeleteok, gang: i'm out. i gave it a shot, had a great 15 or so laps and now we're back to the same old, same old.
ReplyDeletecatch up w/everyone tomorrow!
Meanwhile, Kahne has moved into second...
ReplyDeleteToo bad I couldn't hear anything in the #1 on-board thanks to the stupid radio communications.
ReplyDeleteSee ya Red. Now there doing full screen of pits stops under green.
ReplyDeleteBusch, he just had a massive push. it never got loose or anything. DG just rolled out of it
ReplyDeleteFull screen pit stops are better than pit road speed limit single car rolling. Not much better, but it gets worse.
ReplyDeleteDanny O'Quinn and Mark Green are in the garage, the last of the S&P's for the night.
ReplyDeleteHoly smokes someone found something right as it developed! Marty Reid your the man!
ReplyDeleteWrite another check, Rusty.
ReplyDeleteVery STUPID move!!
ReplyDeleteOuch. oh well, it wouldn't be a NNW race without a Steven wreck. Now its official. Dumb move by Gillillilliilinand
ReplyDeleteDid JWT take over the #1 when we weren't looking?
ReplyDeleteJames Finch is a genius for firing Bliss...
ReplyDeleteAmazing, JWT got some praise!
ReplyDelete@ David - Thanks. The radio communications are so loud.
ReplyDeleteYou would think Gilliland would know better than to make it 4 wide.
I think the #81 flinched when the Rusted Son went by and forced Gilliland to the grass. I could be wrong, but I'm probably not.
ReplyDeleteMarty jumped on that one and TV caught up. That was sweet.
ReplyDeleteDavid said...
ReplyDelete"James Finch is a genius for firing Bliss..."
There's gotta be more to this story...
Kenny Wallace to the point! We'll be hearing about this on RaceDay tomorrow...
ReplyDeleteMandi's gotta be spittin' bricks since this is the 2nd time her hubby's had trouble this week ...
ReplyDeletePatrick, its possible but Gilliland gambled and paid for it. Feel bad for Kevin Hamlin. Rare shot to run all day and it gets ruined by a boneheaded hero move by Gilliland
ReplyDeleteMeanwhile, Brad K has been steadily coming thru the pack...and not a word. He is still 3rd in points, isn't he?
ReplyDeleteOT here. Does that hammer work? I wish they would show it at a better view.
ReplyDelete@ Andrew. I thought of JWT too.
6 - And Mandi is who?
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteBeating, I'm sure there is. But Bliss looked as confused as we were when he gets to run that Finch Cup car from time to time so whatever the story is, I think its on the owner's end instead of the driver's.
ReplyDelete#1 car got in wrecks with Bliss in it, and it gets in wrecks without him in it. The car just wrecks regardless. At least with Bliss in it they won a race and were top 10 in points.
Marty Reid really showcasing his talents. Im tempted to call this booth the new A team
I just thought...(always dangerous), Kez is 3rd in Nationwide series, totally ignored got Cup renegades. Well, unless he holds his line against a claim jumper. Next year he won't even be a aCup rookie, so they will ignore him again! Talk about can't win!
ReplyDeleteBoy, they caved about three segments ago. I hope Marty can get them back on track as far as pictures are concerned.
ReplyDeleteThere was racing all over that track.
David, I'm not saying Gilliland should have gone there, i'm just saying that path might have gotten pinched. which would still reinforce a dumb move by Gilliland.
ReplyDeleteWelcome home from work Left Coasters :)
ReplyDeleteOh noez! We've lost Red :(
Crash!
Holy cow! Wreck city! Cameras staying with the drama. AND excitement and pertinent information from the booth!
ReplyDeleteCan we please have Marty in the Cup booth for the rest of the year? TNT changed halfway!
What the H Leffler?!
ReplyDeleteSaw that coming with the block on Tony. Man, Darnell. That sucks. That move Leffler did, same thing Denny Hamlin was trying to avoid when Brad went down there last week.
Sucks for the guys involved
amazing! two wrecks in a row ACTUALLY caught on camera LIVE. Although, I think its just luck.
ReplyDeleteOw! that was ugly. And ESPN lost some Cup drivers. What will they do now?
ReplyDeleteAre we at Talladega?
ReplyDeletecame back in time for an ARCA looking crash
ReplyDeleteWow! Jack Roush is not having a good night. #6, 16, 17 wrecked.
ReplyDeleteThis is Charlotte's revenge for cutting the 600 short.
ReplyDeleteAnd they caught both ends of that wreck too.
ReplyDeleteMan, Kenseth no luck there.
LOL @ Steve Wallace's remarks
Well, for tonite it's Charledega.
ReplyDeleteSteven not a happy camper :(
ReplyDeleteIs anyone else's DP blog slow tonight or it might just be my computer. Guess Rusty needs to buy another helmet for Steve.
ReplyDeleteNice to see Steve Wallace grow up in his TV presence.
ReplyDeleteAt least he didn't throw it AT anyone. Tough when he's trying to finish 5th.
ReplyDeleteRusty, investigate the electrical short between the driver's seat and the steering wheel.
ReplyDeleteDid ESPN have to show Steve Wallace throw his helmet at the ground? Let a driver calm down and releae his fustration before stalking him with a camera and shoving a microphone in his face.
ReplyDeleteThat's why I was a little late tonight. Google was napping a bit.
ReplyDeleteWell, at least Kyle doesn't have to worry about Joey passing him in the last 10 laps tonight...
ReplyDeleteWow! Marty is going to reset the field when they come back? Really? that would be delightful.
ReplyDeleteNo clue what the G-man was thinking there.
ReplyDeleteSally, no. He's going to list the non-field.
ReplyDelete@David...but remember...Kez is still out there. He's passed Kyle late once or twice for a win.
ReplyDeleteI know SWallace wrecks alot but tonight it just stank for him...he was soo good in the interview I felt like a voyeur they showed him frustrated throwing his helmet.
ReplyDeleteBSPN is back in full force.
Bad camera work while I washed my hair.
sigh
Lather, rinse, repeat . . .
Sally, true. But I was making some humor there since Joey has been notorious for it this year
ReplyDeleteThey better calm down or we'll not have any cars at the end.
ReplyDeleteLeffler was in Q trim for sure.
ReplyDeleteGosh that hammering is loud. Lots of cars out already. Those crews are having to work really hard tonight. Poor Matt and Erik.
ReplyDeleteDarnell: A class act. Someone needs to put him in a car next year!
ReplyDeleteBased on the Jamie comparison I think Jason DOES have a bit on Ricky!
ReplyDeleteBad break for Jason, Matt, and a lot of guys on that one. Kinda surprised that they're still under caution.
Man, when Jaime was interviewing Darnell, it sounded like they were going green again, but I guess the loud engine noise was pitted cars catching the field.
ReplyDelete@David - Maybe he's the Mystery Driver replacing Truex.
ReplyDeleteGO KEZ!!
ReplyDeleteAwwww, they went tight again.
ReplyDeleteIs Debris one of the Wallace kids?
ReplyDeleteNuts. Back to tight angles and in-car cameras. And they cut away from good racing to Cup drivers.
ReplyDeleteAnyone checked the radar? Could they be racing to halfway?
Andrew, it would be nice but its too early for him to jump to Cup. I'd like to see him run a full NW season first before a full Cup schedule.
ReplyDeleteHard to gauge his performance in Cup since the 96 sucks but I hope he gets something somewhere. He deserves something good for being as patient as he has been with Roush over the last 4 years. Won Driver X, gets a truck ride without a sponsor while guys he beat like DOQ got NW deals, Ragan got a Cup deal, yet he runs trucks. This year a partial NW schedule and now nothing next year?
Id hate to see him get overlooked by Roush but Roush's loss will be someone else's gain if they let him go. Remember what happened when Jack missed out on Kyle Busch...
Vicki D - Mandi is Kevin Hamlin's wife
ReplyDeletePatrick - That was completely Gilliland's fault ...
Marty is trying hard to mention every car. The director is not listening.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure Rousch 'missed out' on Kyle as much as passed after dealing with his big brother.
ReplyDeleteMarty and even DJ are both telling the TV truck there is more racing than they are showing.
ReplyDeleteGo Marty!
They need this kind of broadcast tomorrow!!! but no we will get JP woohoo so looking foward to that!!!!!!! ha
ReplyDelete"Marty and even DJ are both telling the TV truck there is more racing than they are showing."
ReplyDeleteHappy to see them growing some.
AB heard you, Andrew!
ReplyDeleteRain approaching the track?!?!?
ReplyDelete@David - Totally agreed. I have to wonder if he and Roush were/are having personality conflicts which are keeping him in the lesser rides. It'd be really nice to see him have a full-time ride somewhere in NW. Cup isn't quite there.
ReplyDeleteWho called rain?
ReplyDeleteMarty sounds pumped.
Yeah, it looks like weather could be a factor sooner or later. These guys are really going at it.
ReplyDeleterain rain go away!!! Stay away till Sunday!!!! please
ReplyDeleteOh, look at that radar. Nifty.
ReplyDeleteGawd, this is horrible suddenly. Who cares who is leading?
ReplyDeleteToo tight. Zoom out! Show battles, not single cars.
ReplyDeleteHm. Marty's really trying to expand past the script but the director won't budge. Nice call of someone in the wall but no shots of it.
ReplyDeleteWe hear Marty talking about someone rubbing fenders and/or walls, but no visual. Thanks Mr. Director [/sarcasm]
ReplyDeleteCan somebody PLEASE get Dave Blaney a sponsor!
ReplyDeleteHey ESPN director, we need wider shots please.
ReplyDeleteSally, Kyle was snatched up by Hendrick before Kurt and Jack had their issues.
ReplyDeleteThis is crazy. I'm getting just as much info staring at the computer and listening to Marty as I am staring at the TV and listening to Marty. C'mon, Mr. Director, give us some good shots.
ReplyDeletePerhaps Mr. Director and Mr. Producer are not as quick on the uptake as they need to be for the task at hand.
ReplyDelete
