Live Blogging The Nationwide Series Race From PIR (ESPN2 - 4PM)

Phoenix plays host to the Nationwide Series this afternoon. Allen Bestwick will begin the day with the NASCAR Countdown pre-race show at 4PM ET. He will be joined by Rusty Wallace and Brad Daugherty. Tim Brewer will be in the Tech Garage.

At 4:30PM the race coverage will begin anchored by Marty Reid. He will be joined by Dale Jarrett and Andy Petree in the broadcast booth. On pit road will be Shannon Spake, Jamie Little, Dave Burns and Vince Welch.

PIR is a unique track. There is a dogleg on the backstretch, a bridge over the tack and a big mountain called Rattlesnake Hill behind Turns 3 and 4. The low angle shots are tremendous here to show the speed of the cars and the drift through the corners.

This track is spectacular from the air and also on wideshots for natural scenery. The entrance to pit road is dangerous and the race off pit road is going to be critical after a caution flag.

In the past, accidents happened so quickly that it was tough for TV to be in the right place at the right time. What helped to keep the coverage in perspective for TV viewers was medium wideshots showing groups of cars racing. The track is too small and quick for many tight shots.

This is the next to last race for this TV combo. Keep a sharp eye on Marty Reid today as he may well be auditioning for a larger role in the NASCAR on ESPN coverage for next season.

This post will serve to host your comments on the Nationwide coverage from PIR. To add your TV-related comments, just click on the comments button below. This is a family-friendly website, please keep that in mind when posting. Thanks for taking the time to stop by today.

  1. Is it just my TSN2 feed or is Allen Bestwick's voice muffled on the originating coverage as well?... Music is 3 times louder than the voices.

  2. hey, ray's here today! and rusty is seriously wound up.

    ReplyDelete
  3. @martin v: same here on comcast

    ReplyDelete
  4. My TSN2HD feed is also showing an SD picture... What is going on?...

    ReplyDelete
  5. Ray being there is news....wonder if Brad is a bit squirmy?

    ReplyDelete
  6. Happy Saturday :)

Wonder if the script will have room for Happy should he be on a race winning run for his attempt at the trifecta

    ReplyDelete
  7. JD, you say that this track is too small for tight shots. BSPN will prove you wrong. :)

    ReplyDelete
  8. an observation: the four guys all appear about equal height at that desk. so you suppose they have brad's seat down as far as possible so he doesn't tower over them even while seated?

    ReplyDelete
  9. 4:06pm - HD picture has come back and the audio is finally fixed.

    ReplyDelete
  10. what i think brewer missed in that tech center explanation is: what is the advantage to the team of having the weight bolted vs welded.
see, a good explanation as far as it went but then just sorta left the rest on the table.

    ReplyDelete
  11. red, totally. Always done on TV, even with your local TV station.

    ReplyDelete
  12. knee high to a giraffe! Ha.
Just got in from very brief errand.
    Hi guys.

    Hey is it raining?

    ReplyDelete
  13. @ red & JD, or are the others sitting on phone books?

    ReplyDelete
  14. jd, i'm amused by that for some reason. gotta wonder just how far down the seat is and how close brad's knees are to the underside of the desk.

(apropos of little: i hosted an appearance w/wilt chamberlain once: sitting down, he was almost as tall as i am standing -- and i'm 5'9"! we had to put lifts under the 4 table legs to make him comfortable. nice guy, tho'.)

    ReplyDelete
  15. @Sophia - The common expression is "knee-high to a grasshopper", although the very first version of this saying was "knee-high to a toad". :)

    ReplyDelete
  16. Dot, that is what they do before the shows with the talent. They set all the lights, the chair heights and camera locations.

Remember, those guys are looking at three robotic cameras in a rather small space. There is a monitor next to the cameras. They run on a track, like a film camera does...

    ReplyDelete
  17. Remember Kyle with Ray D. last night?

See him with Jamie just now?

    ReplyDelete
  18. you know when Ray was giving his long explanation AB pointed at the camera Ray was supposed to be using he turned to look in it so fast.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Is everyone also getting choppy audio on these last segments about Kyle and Carl?

    ReplyDelete
  20. that was a hard lick Alex took in quals glad he's OK :)

    ReplyDelete
  21. MV
yea I'd heard the knee high to grasshopper before..but the giraffe twist cracked me up.

Red, Funny about how tall Wilt C is sitting. I remember they did a show on his house, specially designed for him, decades ago and his toilets were three feet tall IIRC. :)

    ReplyDelete
  22. Martin, my TSN2 is working fine. It must be your cable provider having problems.

    --KarenB

    ReplyDelete
  23. I missed Kyle's interview..was he ticked?...I was taking pictures of cats staring at walls as my house mate practices a projector for work meeting.: Cat toy for them.

    ReplyDelete
  24. @Gymmie - Alex said after the crash that the back-up car had smaller brakes suited to a 1.5-mile track (the car had Bobby Hillin Jr.'s sponsor decals on it, so it was the Texas car). I don't know how well the back-up is going to run depending on what changes they were able to make to it.

    ReplyDelete
  25. @KarenB - I'm with Shaw Direct satellite and my audio is still cutting out at times.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Did Tagliani bring his own money to this deal?

    ReplyDelete
  27. Hey JD, do you know something that we don't about Marty? I sure wish that ESPN would change the tv booth "talent" for next year. The interview with KB was a little on edge. But isn't it amazing that all the cars are terrific before the race starts and if they break or crash, the driver will tell us the car was junk from the start.

    ReplyDelete
  28. @ Martin

I have Shaw Cable. TSN2 is fine. Must be some interference in your area, 'cause Shaw's satellites that feed the cable service are working fine here on the Left Coast.

  29. @JD - Alex, when he ran at Montreal, had the Quebec Dodge Dealers Association backing him, as well as a number of local sponsors. According to a Canadian news report, Randy MacDonald had promised Alex he'd give him a chance to run on an oval, so I'm not so sure he brought sponsorship, other than maybe some money from Dodge, which is on the car this weekend.

  35. Jeez, speed it up anthem dude! And quit adding all the extra crap. You might as well sing it, you're doing the same things wrong as the "local recording artists".

    --KarenB

    ReplyDelete
  36. The flyover is late so they told him to go slow. It would be better if it was faster I think but a good job.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Glad the weather is nice. Hope Marty really rocks this one.

    ReplyDelete
  38. He will as long as the truck cooperates and shows the right pictures

    ReplyDelete
  39. I don't remember this guy tweaking the anthem so much last year...thought he played it straighter. oh well.

    He's good but. . .

    ReplyDelete
  40. @ JD, nevermind Marty. Let's hope the truck rocks the track coverage.

    ReplyDelete
  41. OK, if I am going to watch ESPN with y'all, I need a glass of wine to cut down on comments ...no MRN round here today & most online are HS junk.

    ReplyDelete
  42. When you get an announcer with some guts, he can lead the truck through the live portions.

We saw Marty get frustrated last time....

    ReplyDelete
  43. well, edwards is the recipient of the "in-car reporter kiss of death."
    good luck, carl!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Great, Carl gets the curse. Let's hope he overcomes it.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Nooooooooo! My boy is the in-race reporter. *sigh* I was hoping he'd win today...

    Poop.

  46. S&P report with a few "maybes" in there.

    #91 Terry Cook
    #37 Kevin Hamlin
    #87 Antonio Perez (?)
    #49 Mark Green (?)
    #90 Johnny Chapman
    #07 Danny O'Quinn Jr.
    #61 Jason Bowles (?)
    #92 Dennis Setzer
    #85 Casey Atwood
    #47 Chris Cook

    ReplyDelete
  47. I missed it who is parking before starting.

    I was off on Twitter.

Off for a glass of wine to help me FOCUS.

    ReplyDelete
  48. @ kbaskins, as long as they don't talk to him, he should be OK. Worked for Harvick last week.

    ReplyDelete
  49. well, that's interesting: black flagging before the start b/c of no pit box or crew chief. "can't evenn call him a start and park . . . "

    ReplyDelete
  50. Wow, before the race even starts Marty is telling us the S&P's.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Call that kettle a kettle Marty go get'um

    ReplyDelete
  52. KarenB - There's a guy crouched down out of camera sight that tells the performer to speed it up or stretch it ... And he was telling the Dr to stretch it because the helos were late ...

But, he did a lot better job than the majority of the "performers" this season ... LOL

Ugh to Brad D ... PIR is NOT Grampa's "home track" ... It was Saugus & now Fontana ...

Petree - The JGR cars smoke because they're running LOOSE valve guides (& possibly old seals) ...

    ReplyDelete
  53. So Morgan, who would run the entire race, did not make the field.

Yet, one guy who did was black flagged before the green came out?

    What the heck!

    ReplyDelete
  54. jd, nascar really HAS to address this level of S&P: guy shows up with no crew AND no crew chief. shouldn't have even been allowed to qualify!

    ReplyDelete
  55. @JD--yup that's what makes me mad about the s&pers :(

    there goes Kylie

    ReplyDelete
  56. Marty has got these guys pumped! What a difference from practice.

    ReplyDelete
  57. @ kbaskins, there's hope for your boy after all.

    Calling all the script writers.

    ReplyDelete
  58. We are not very far into this race and I am already dreading the prospect of Jerry Punch being replaced with Marty Reid. It's kinda like replacing a flat tire with that mini-spare: slightly better, but still needs a repair.

    ReplyDelete
  59. what a concept: in re: the drama of the beginning of the race and "but we'll update you after the green flag."

see, that's calling the race and letting the storyline wait for a bit.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Marty we don't need to see the "points as of now" either. Doesn't look like a lot of fans in the stands either.

    ReplyDelete
  61. I don't know where ESPN got a total of 5410 points for Kyle due to the crash, he was shown with 5426 on Live Leaderboard before the restart. I think ESPN is trying to manufacture a storyline, Carl was still 150 points out before the restart, not 133 (or whatever they showed).

    ReplyDelete
  62. MV, you are spot on w/S&Ps so far! outstanding.

    ReplyDelete
  63. DJ stepping on the scanner again. He did it like three times last Sunday. Don't they tell them when they're going to play the audio?

    ReplyDelete
  64. Cool story about Trevor. Living his dream.

    ReplyDelete
  65. @red - I didn't expect Tagliani to join the S&P group, but maybe they're just fixing a few things and will rejoin.

#61 Jason Bowles might run the whole race since he's missing his championship banquet to run this race.

#49 Mark Green might run for his new sponsor Juggle.com, although Mark has parked with sponsor Anderson's Pure Maple Syrup twice.

    ReplyDelete
  66. was the 99 the only car on the track there? is that why we had an incar and old picture from 11 years ago?

    ReplyDelete
  67. @Karen - Teams' past history and a few guesses. I wish I was that good at picking lottery numbers! :)

    ReplyDelete
  68. This comment has been removed by a blog administrator.

    ReplyDelete
  69. With regards to the car black flagged before green - don't they have to take the green flag to get the prize money? Did NASCAR just make this car go home with no prize money?

    ReplyDelete
  70. @ Ann, I hope you're right. What would stop one of us for pretending to start a race just to get $$$

    ReplyDelete
  71. Looks like #49 Mark Green is parking it.

    ReplyDelete
  72. I think they still get the money, they put the car on the track to take the green flag. If didn't get money I'm sure they would find someone with a lawn chair to sit in the pit stall and meet the requirement

    ReplyDelete
  73. Talk about no crowd. No wonder we are not seeing wideshots.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Not hearing Ray since the pre-race...anyone else?

    ReplyDelete
  75. Oh boy, another Extenzzzzzz commercial. Is it my imagination, or do the announcers go out of their way to NOT say the sponsor whenever this car is mentioned? Granted it's not that often, usually a wreck. I wonder if he will get on Trackside next spring and DW will take all the samples like he did when David Starr was on sponsored by a similar product???

    ReplyDelete
  76. Who's keeping track of the Weed spin.

    Oh, here's Tim.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Full screen pit stops coming up.

    ReplyDelete
  78. I see my decision to start late and FF through commercials and Brewer was a good call

    ReplyDelete
  79. How did the official miss the lugs not being on the tire?

    ReplyDelete
  80. poor Steven WOW! I can hear the screaming now

    ReplyDelete
  81. at least it isn't always steven's fault.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Aw man!

You picked a fine time to leave me Loose Wheel!!

    ReplyDelete
  83. I am liking this so far, nice race length and Marty has kept them pumped up pretty good.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Too bad we didn't get to hear an open mic on Russell ... LOL

    ReplyDelete
  85. Hey all, late to the party. The stands look thin.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Steve L - there really hasn't been many wide shots since Nascar doesn't want us to see so few fans in the stands.

    ReplyDelete
  87. JD, is the sun and shade, going in and out, hard on the camera guys?

    ReplyDelete
  88. Man! Marty just made me care about Justin Allgier. How did that happen?

Sorry to all the Allgier fans just trying to make a point about broadcasting.

    ReplyDelete
  89. I've never thought it was always Steve. *Some* of the times he was hit but they don't always seem to catch that part, lol. Marty seems to be leading the troops well today.

    ReplyDelete
  90. how many G's did it take to move that front a foot?

Where's david when we need him?

    ReplyDelete
  91. What happened to Tagliani? I missed it.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Looped his primary in quals and totalled it agains the outside wall. Big hit.

    ReplyDelete
  93. I gotta give credit to ESPN for catching the tail end of that wreck live and having several good replays, considering those guys aren't front runners.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Ray back from his coffee break to give us a Race Rundown.

    ReplyDelete
  95. @ Bill R, you'll be taking that credit back tomorrow.

    ReplyDelete
  96. wow! rusty even started to throw it to ray just then but backed off.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Bowles should've just gone to the banquet ...

    ReplyDelete
  98. Daddy not saying about the lose tire on the 66? Hmm, no one else is either!

    ReplyDelete
  99. Carl's been taken' lessons from Mikey about inserting your sponsors when ever possible. Apropreate or not...

    ReplyDelete
  100. @ tia, he's probably thinking the same thing.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Jamie - WTG to throw the rookie (Bowles) under the bus & create your bogus drama ...

Bowles was an innocent victim ...

Thankfully, Menard took ALL of the blame ...

    ReplyDelete
  102. I really liked Carl's comments, looking at the camera and waving. Nice gesture I think. Looks like lots of cars in the garage area hope they don't run out of room.

    ReplyDelete
  103. i'm thinking when edwards hangs up the firesuit, he has a career in broadcasting ahead of him.

    ReplyDelete
  104. Dot - Ya think??

We need the edited pages entered into the official script ...

    More trouble for Kylie ...

C'mon, someone step up to the plate ... LOL

    ReplyDelete
  105. @ red, I was thinking the same thing. He'd be good at it. Has the look and voice.

    ReplyDelete
  106. Uncle Rupert needs to buy out the Disney part of the contract ...

Disney needs to stick to the Olympics & Ice Skating ...

Yeah, I'm serious about the ice skating ... NBC / Universal has it now ... and they SUCK ...

    ReplyDelete
  107. Dot & Red, I think Carl has a future in tv.

    ReplyDelete
  108. Dot / red - He's already mentioned that he wants to do it ... multiple times ...

You should listen to him when he's on "Loveline" in Feb ... He's pretty funny / interesting ...

    ReplyDelete
  109. Agree about Carl too. He's done enough on Speed and so forth that he probably knows too

    ReplyDelete
  110. only about 50 minutes left in the broadcast window ... think they'll make it? probably not much at all of a post race.

    ReplyDelete
  111. @ Anon 6:07, be prepared to play channel roulette if race is still on.

    ReplyDelete
  112. Please Marty, stop with the "points as of now"!!!

    ReplyDelete
  113. I would say Nascar will try to help out since the race is running long.
I bet you don't see any cautions for a water bottle.

    ReplyDelete
  114. Ray + relevent information Vs. Brad D who is selling shamwow. We report, u decide..

    ReplyDelete
  115. I have fears of that race where David Reuitmann won his first Nationwide race ... ESPN left the broadcast just right after David crossed the finish line.

    ReplyDelete
  116. Jamie - is it an oil or fluid leak?

    ReplyDelete
  117. I realize there is still 50+ to go but let me say that this weekend, ESPN has managed to bring us a race worthy of the truck series coverage.

I say this knowing that the production truck could still mess it up, but so far, so good.

Could Jerry get the flu and ESPN can give the fans a triffecta this weekend here in PHX. Tune in tomorrow to find out ;)

    ReplyDelete
  118. um, TB and car to garage on my screen?!

No green flag going on..same BSPN.

Glad I've been busy and not watching or reading...tv camera work still stinks to high heavens. The end.

    ReplyDelete
  119. Just joined in on this fun.

Anyone have any comments? Kyle Busch? Tight cam shots? Anything?

    ReplyDelete
  120. We'd still like to see the racing on the track, not work on cars in the pits.

    ReplyDelete
  121. Too much emphasis on the cup guys and I realize they are up front but that's one of the reasons they are there. Need more info on the regular NW guys running in the middle.

    ReplyDelete
  122. By the way, ESPN, the magic number of points is not 195, it's 161. I doubt Kyle will skip Homestead, so he'll earn at least 34 points just for starting.

    ReplyDelete
  123. Why are comments posting slowly? Spam attack?

    ReplyDelete
  124. i can't fault them on showing leffler under green flag. edwards way ahead, busch not, cars holding position. plus, as i posted on twitter, a fire in the wheel well makes for pretty good tv.

but brewer just fell apart in that "explanation" of what may have happened.

    ReplyDelete
  125. Marty, just cuz you're talking faster dosen't mean you're going to make the time window...caution...

    ReplyDelete
  126. ok, i have to credit dot w/getting me back on track, i actually sincerely forgot that split screen was an option on the leffler/green flag episode!

i plead too much espn and now concede the point somewhat sheepishly.

    mea culpa.

    ReplyDelete
  127. That looked more like Denny came back down across Brad's nose ... NOT Brad sticking his nose where it didn't belong ...

    ReplyDelete
  128. im actually sorta enjoying this broadcast! Marty is awsome much much much MUCH MUCH can I make these letters bigger???? MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH Better than JP LOL i've been wanting him to replace JP all season long so hope it happens. Love the racing Phoenix is 1 mile of pure ecstasy! WoOoOoOO!!!

    ReplyDelete
  129. This is going to be interesting if they leave right after the race.

    ReplyDelete
  130. I think that's the first time ESPN actually showed us reason for the payback. Somewhat misguided since the 20 was pushed up the track but still. Evidently the media is setting up to catch the post race fist fight. Who says Nascar needs Danica.

    ReplyDelete
  131. WTG Ratliff ... Stir the pot ... Throw Keselowski under the bus & run him over ...

IF you didn't SEE what happened ... Just keep your yap SHUT ...

    ReplyDelete
  132. Chris, relax. We are just moderating comments. The lag is only seconds.

    ReplyDelete
  133. oh shut up Kyle, Brad brings the old skool feel of racing back! Dont forget Kyle you spun a lot in your day and put people in danger! What an idiot!! Nascar needs what we just saw. I can not wait to see next year I think the Brad, Denny battle is going to be awsome... these 2 have a past and looks like its only going to get more intense

    ReplyDelete
  134. six, I've seen the last couple GP skating events, and Paul Wylie is the best commentator they've ever had (he had done GP before). They're obviously doing it on the cheap with no other voice but Andrea Joyce. For Olys (still NBC), we get to hear Scott Hamilton screeching in the ear & Sandra Bezic's biased opinions...ugh. And then I miss Terry, Dick and Peggy. Some things ABC/ESPN did pretty well with. Actually, they did use Dick on NBC for Torino. But their camerawork was better (AESPN). Like ESPN is obsessed with in car cam, they're into close ups & they miss the feet.

    ReplyDelete
  135. @ red, under your circumstances, no worries.

    ReplyDelete
  136. Its an SEC football game that follows the race. ESPN paid big bucks for that. It will be very interesting to see what happens.

    ReplyDelete
  137. Not even a single passing mention of the 161 point number. Nothing but hype and providing a completely false dramatic storyline that if Kyle loses one more spot Carl has a chance at the title next week.

    ReplyDelete
  138. To me BradK drives like the races of Earnhardt Sr. drove. Plenty of spunk that's what we want to see - it's called racing.

    ReplyDelete
  139. Totally ironic that Denny and Kyle are complaining about Brad spinning someone out as if neither of them have ever put a bumper to a competitor before. Frankly, I'm thrilled to see a driver that goes all out to win. I think Kez has gotten into Denny's head lately.

    ReplyDelete
  140. I hope Kyle dosent get to clinch it!!! Go Kenseth hell yeah why why why why??? Shut up cry baby kyle

    ReplyDelete
  141. Amd now kyle is crying that Kenseth won't move over and give him the spot? Hel-LO? Isn't this supposed to be RACING?

    ReplyDelete
  142. @Anon 6:48 - That's what I've been saying, 161 is enough to clinch, but they keep showing that graphic with 195. Kyle could drop back another 10 spots and still clinch it.

    ReplyDelete
  143. It's not just Kyle and Denny that are mad at him. Carl, Kurt Busch, and others are mad at him too

    ReplyDelete
  144. Tight shots of KB. There's more goinbg on!

    ReplyDelete
  145. NASCAR does the same thing with the 195 point hype. Its not just ESPN.

    ReplyDelete
  146. You are not getting longer lag. Your flooding comments are not being published, Chris.

    Relax.

    ReplyDelete
  147. w00t! My driver wins! Too little too late, though.

    --KarenB

    ReplyDelete
  148. Stir the pot Espn with the 20 and 88. Your wanting something to happen.

    ReplyDelete
  149. Why is KB so mad, he's going to get his trophy, just not today.

    ReplyDelete
  150. Why is KYLE so mad??????????

and what did the camera miss with Carl

    ReplyDelete
  151. They kept the camera on Kyle way too long I bet if they gave him a few minutes he would have talked or if it was someone from Speed

    ReplyDelete
  152. @kbaskin

    still can't remember my dream.

It was a good one too.

WHY is ESPN trying to START UP STUFF?

    Same ol BSPN.

    ReplyDelete
  153. One of these days Kyle is going to learn that 'losing' with good grace is at least as important as winning with good grace. Neither of which he seems to grasp.

    ReplyDelete
  154. WHAT is with the ESPN saying HE said HE said Jr high school junk?!

    ReplyDelete
  155. little disappointed this booth is playing this up so much...sigh.

    I miss TNT...& SPEED....

    ReplyDelete
  156. THAT was a direct threat by Dennis Hamlin ...

He said he's gonna wreck Keselowski next week at Homestead

IF NASCAR does NOT do anything ... Then they need to just shut down ...

    Same with Joe Gibbs ...

    ReplyDelete
  157. Love that interview with Denny, hopefully he pays Brad back next week!

    ReplyDelete
  158. Got more of a post race than I thought we would

    ReplyDelete
  159. I can't believe KB won't give an interview. He's going to win the championship will he talk to them next week???

    ReplyDelete
  160. does Nascar need to get involved??? Hell no let this ride out baby! Oh yes as much as I do not like Denny (I work @ UPS) :) i did enjoy what he said!!!! NO ill take care of him! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO now this is what I want and I know all of you want oh yes! Will we see something crazy tomorrow w these 2???????????

    ReplyDelete
  161. Sorry, JD.

I hate Denny and Kyle. This is why I like Jimmie Johnson and Jeff Gordon, among all of the other level-headed drivers. Besides, this is BS compared to the Cup side. You don't need a college education to know that.

Denny had some harsh words for KeseLOWski. But, I'm sure he'll get kicked out if he tries to destroy Brad. But, then again, Ryan Newman didn't get the big heave-ho when he torched Juan Pablo's car at a certain track in 2006.

    ReplyDelete
  162. Sophia, that replay was for you.

  163. I wonder why the point leader does not have to do media after the race as the Cup series point leader does?
This is the part of ESPN that I despise.
Start the drama and add logs every chance they get then keep the drama going. I hate it.
Well here's Hamlin, with his sound bite, I remember it wasn't long ago when drivers said the same about him.
I think there were a lot of other interviews worth seeing than those 2.
Did I mention I despise ESPN!

  164. Didn't have as much fun today with this moderation thing on. It's just not as if we're just sitting around talking.
Hopefully tomorrow we can have full reign.

  165. And ESPN misses the sommersault! Dang.

  166. @ VickyD, they did rerun it. However, they were looking for a fight.

  167. Vicky,

Carl did it behind the car.

But I think BSPN was too dumb to pan their rooftop cameras to the track -- WIDE.

  168. Anon @ 6:45 - Jennifer Kirk's voice is too little girly ... NBC's camera work not the best ... I'm watching because of Ashley Wagner being our friend's granddaughter ...

Dick's been doing "Battle of the Blades" with Sandra Bezic over on CBC ... He's a naughty old man (but not as naughty as Katarina Witt) ... LOL

NBC's had some idiotic backstage "reporters" asking some Jamie/Shannon questions ... last year ... This year, somewhat better ... I like David Pelletier at Cup of Russia ...

NBC's NASCAR coverage was better than their ice skating coverage ...

Disney was better for ice skating than NASCAR ...

Thus ... Disney & NBC need to switch contracts ...

  169. will be interesting if NA$CAR does anything ahead of time.

Love Brett's tweet if Denny does something he'll get put on probation until December 31st....hehehehehehe

Don't understand why Kyle was mad too all he needs is his car to start. What a baby! Apparently he talked to Pockrass though

  170. They don't have a post race ceremony handing Kyle the trophy if he doesn't clinch it with enough to not have to start the next race.

Wasn't enough time to show a championship trophy presentation anyway.

Coverage was over all decent and improved except for the very end when we got Carl driving round and round in the lead. There had to be some racing going on further back, even if it was for 12th.

And the feud hype at the end.

  171. And thanks to whomever for the heads up that figure skating is now on NBC/USA. It's usually around this time of year that I realize that I am missing it.

Figure skating just doesn't get the coverage that it used to. I guess the effects of the whack have worn off.

  172. Well I will miss the drama next week. Saturday will be out with my local New Orleans band and on Sunday we are doing Txgiving dinner at my sisters. & My birthday is the 22nd, too. Might have the race on MUTE in the background since there will be 3 NASCAR types there but who cares. None of us are JJ fans.

I don't mind drama between drivers but don't try to stir it up behaving like jr high school.

    Not happy with BSpn tonight.

    what's new ;-)

  173. Thanks for stopping by folks! Solid race coverage that was much different than the last several races.

    Appreciate your opinions!

  174. I don't think NBC will come back. They already ****ed themselves when they dropped NASCAR for Sunday Night Football.

I'm sure we'd have the same problem of potential overrun.

But for NBC, it's all about the $ making ¢.bbb

  175. six, I'd give anything for Canadian coverage. But ABC would be good. I am watching um...elsewhere. Bootleg TV, so all I've heard is Paul on the NBC finals on TV (we don't get Universal.) I was surprised how good David P was though.

Ashley had a rough outing last time but I think that'll be good for her to have fought through it. Overall, she's showing a lot of consistency.

Ann...no USA. Just NBC & Universal sports.

  176. Your cub reporter for PIR here. Quite honestly the truck experience BLEW the NW experience out of the water hands down. The truck atmosphere is just so much more relaxed in many ways. From traffic flow into the track, to how you are treated at the track, to me even being able to get onto pit road after the race. No such luck on any account today with the NW event. Cup lite indeed.

Tagliani, he was junk today. Back-up car, was black flagged twice I believe and parked after being too slow. The 47 parked lap 1. Surprisingly the 61 which was supposed to start and park the rest of the year actually ran all the way until he wrecked into Menard. The 58 had been running but came in and opened the hood, thus parking.

Wasn't much of a race up front though watching Kyle get through most of the field was pretty cool to watch as was Bowyer. If Clint hadn't spun with Kyle early he may have had a car capable of winning.

Also, Ray Evernham had mentioned on SIRIUS this past Tuesday he was joining the ESPN telecast which was a late add.

Carl after the race was cool, Denny apparently said much worse to MRN than he did ESPN which he went to the extent of saying he has NO respect in the garage area from anyone. Interesting....

Anyways, it was a fun weekend...now to sift through the pictures!

  177. Thanks David, we look forward to seeing them. Appreciate your efforts this weekend.
