Live Blogging The Sprint Cup Series From PIR (2:30PM - ABC)
The storyline is going to be the troubles of Jimmie Johnson at the last race. The focus is going to be on the Chase. The same questions will be posed to the same drivers. The challenge for the NASCAR on ESPN gang will be how to generate some interest on this next-to-last pre-race show.
Allen Bestwick has been the best thing that has happened to ESPN's NASCAR coverage in a very long time. Bestwick has taken the Infield Pit Studio and made it a credible and vital piece of the TV coverage for both the Nationwide and Sprint Cup Series.
Sitting alongside of Bestwick this season, Rusty Wallace has been exactly what ESPN wanted him to be. Opinionated, animated and emotional describe what Wallace brings to every race. Paired with Bestwick, Wallace is having the best TV season of his life.
One person who is having a rough year is Brad Daugherty. Other than a goofy feature built around food, Daugherty is pinned in the infield with little to add. This week, Ray Evernham has been added to the panel and will be providing the crew chief perspective to the conversation that should have been there all season long.
Once Bestwick and company are done, they will be passing the ball to Jerry Punch, Dale Jarrett and Andy Petree. Saturday afternoon, Jarrett and Petree worked on an exciting Nationwide Series race with play-by-play announcer Marty Reid. The duo was enthusiastic and opinionated from start to finish.
Now, they face a long afternoon on a relatively short track that provides lots of racing action throughout the field. Keeping up with the action and providing the excitement on this type of track is not a strength of Punch. It will be interesting to see how much Jarrett and Petree cross over and provide help with the call of the race.
On pit road will be the regular ESPN team. Shannon Spake, Jamie Little, Dave Burns and Vince Welch seem to be
Fans know ESPN has overhyped the Chase for the last three years. By focusing on only the Chase cars, the network has alienated the loyal fans of other teams and driven them away from the coverage. This week, stories like Casey Mears starting in the top ten, Michael Waltrip rolling off in eleventh and Max Papis with a great qualifying spot will never be covered.
As the race unfolds, the pressure comes as the stories of the race leader begin to clash with the stories of the Chase contenders. After the Johnson crash, TV abandoned the race and continually updated the Johnson crew's efforts to rejoin the race. While some media members liked it, none of the fan emails or website comments spoke of it favorably.
Pictures from PIR are great. The scenery and the track layout makes good coverage easy to do. This track has a bridge, a dogleg on the backstretch and a wonderful hill behind Turns 3 and 4. Aerial pictures and high cameras show a wonderful scene and a full house would really add to the visuals.
"Points right now" is a phrase that makes lots of fans crazy. Interrupting the racing action to update Chase points is a TV production decision every single time. Perhaps, out of commercial, under caution or even after pit stops makes a little more sense as a time to offer this information.
In many ways, this telecast will tell the tale of ESPN's entire NASCAR season. Next week in Homestead is very different. As the final race, the production and emphasis will be clearly on the Chase Championship. It will be PIR where the ESPN team should be able to show everything they have learned this season about presenting a race in a form that fans embrace.
This post will host your comments about the coverage of the Sprint Cup Series from PIR on ABC. To add your TV-related opinion, just click on the comments button below. This is a family-friendly website, please keep that in mind when posting. Thanks for taking the time to stop by.
Thanks to Max Papis for the great shot of PIR and Rattlesnake Mountain.
Let's hope for the best.
ReplyDeleteLast points race left out of the top 3 series.
Let's hope ESPN can expand and improve from yesterday.
Chris, because of a flooding and spam problem, we will be moderating comments off and on today.
ReplyDeleteBe patient with us, OK?
That's fine.
ReplyDeleteSpecial places in Hades are made for hackers and spam attackers.
I know better now. Sorry about yesterday, JD.
We sometimes get some kids and angry folks at the end of the season. Happened to us last year.
ReplyDeleteJust gives them a feeling of power they can't get in real life. Kind of sad.
@ Chris, you on Twitter? Alot of us are over there too.
ReplyDeleteI'm not holding out much hope for good race coverage on BSPN. Can JJ clinch it today? 50 yr old Mark Martin, ad nauseum.
I love Mike Rowes' voice, I hope they use him at the banquet.
ReplyDeleteWill we see a race today, or another three hour multi-tasking marethon?
Sorry, Dot, but I don't do Twitter. I think I have a phobia of viruses on social networking or popular sites.
ReplyDeleteMike is going to be the Grand Marshal at Homestead.
ReplyDeleteHe sure fits right in....
You notice that on the tape of Jimmie's wreck on Speed, they used PRN's voiceover, but on ESPN, they didn't even use their own!!!!
ReplyDeleteI can see why. Ford loves Mike Rowe and Homestead, why not put the two together?
ReplyDeleteHis narrations at the beginning of all the ESPN Chase broadcasts are great. Much better than 2 minutes of Digger nonsense.
hmmm Brad looks kind of POed a little uncomfortable maybe?
ReplyDeleteAnd, AB you are the best looking 'critter' on air!
sorry for the OT JD Couldn't resist.
terri, we have been working ESPN over all during the final seventeen races.
ReplyDeleteOn Logano's roll over, Punch said nothing....at all.
I'd love to see Mike Rowe do a roundtable discussion with some of the garage guys like he does at the season's end of Dangerous Catch. Drivers would be fun too but let's give some love to the crew guys
ReplyDeleteWhy not hire Mike Rowe to sing the National Anthem??? Couldn't do any worse than Ft. Worth's "Local Singing Sensation".
ReplyDeleteAgain no mention of the 161 point number in the point scenario discussion. I really hope this doesn't turn into yesterday where hype trumped facts and they intentionally ommitted any talk of the "clinch if he starts next week" aspect of the "points as of now" graphic until one small whisper of it got snuck in with like 8 to go.
ReplyDeleteI wonder what makes the air first today? The 161 point number or the ridiculous "Jeff Gordon could take the points lead at Phoenix if...." graphic that dominated all the ESPN practice & qualifying shows.
@ VickyD, he does opera. So he knows how to sing.
ReplyDeleteFirst 10 minutes is all JJ all the time. sickening.
ReplyDeleteTB and showing last week's repair of JJ's car. Tell us some new stories!! Pulllllleeeassse. I'm begging ya.
ReplyDelete@terri--they play MRN/PRN all the time. Can't play *crickets*
ReplyDelete@ Gymmie, too funny.
ReplyDeleteAnd how many times today are we going to hear how old MM is. But I'm afraid it'll be the JJ show all day!
ReplyDeleteGot to give it to Vince, willing to get down on the ground for an interview, don't see Dave doing that kind of thing.
ReplyDeletenice piece on Marky Mark! Had heard about his struggles the first time around so it was great that Mr. Roush gave him his second chance :)
ReplyDeleteNice job on the Mark Martin piece, interview and discussion. Mark Martin is a class act! If you have a great subject even ESPN/ABC cannot screw it up!
ReplyDeleteGotta love ESPN using 1997 pictures to represent the 1998 season. That's only about the millionth time this year an ESPN NASCAR graphic was outdated or totally wrong. How can this happen over and over again with no one there caring?
ReplyDeleteGymmie my first thought was I hope Vince can get up and if they would put it on camera
ReplyDeleteIt is sad to see the attendance at Phoenix dwindle. It is a great little race track and the 500 kilometer (312 mile) distance is perfect for TV.
ReplyDeleteWould love to see more of the 500 mile races shortened to 500 kilometers. This is a distance that would provide much better racing and fit in a TV window that could help ratings.
See? This is why ESPN should be booted. They know little.
ReplyDeleteJeff Gordon did not know at first JJ wrecked? That is so weird..sure their team mates but he's also the owner.
ReplyDeleteWhen did the blonde ESPN girls go to DARK hair with blond 'streaks...course Bwins works with blonde or brunette.
:)
@ Anon 2:55, I agree. The races should be shortened. NASCAR could do it and use the "going green" as an excuse.
ReplyDeleteAgreed with anon @2:55.
ReplyDeleteMost IndyCar races are about 300 miles, and that would work with NASCAR as well. The only long races NASCAR needs are the Daytona 500 and the Coca-Cola 600, for the sake of tradition.
Avoiding the pre-race stuff. same stuff over and over again.
ReplyDeleteIs being Grand Marshal at Homestead considered a "Dirty Job" for Mike Rowe?
ReplyDeleteCool guy! Can see why Ford likes him and is using his talents at Homestead.
Much better spokesman than Howie Long is for Chevrolet :(
No mention or update on the 88 crew involved in auto accident this morning ???
ReplyDeleteKind of surprising. But then again,.... is it ?
Did I miss ABC interviewing Truex?
ReplyDeletejust tuned in
ReplyDeleteOkay, Jamie's got a new line: "What kind of message are you sending?"
ReplyDeleteGive it up, girl!
When does the Kez vs Diva talk begin? You know they're salivating over that one.
ReplyDeleteGuess TS is out of contention for the championship so he's ignored today (so far).
ReplyDeleteRattlesnake, tastes like chicken. Doesn't all weird food taste like chicken?
ReplyDeletewhy would they talk to Truex? he just won the pole..he's not in the chase, for cryin' out loud! ~sarcasm~ btw, this is just gross w/Brad eating snake..
ReplyDeleteThe rattlesnake eating segment is disgusting and SOOOO desperate..ESPN/ABC is so out of touch and desperate..in so many ways! Brad Daugherty is personable and has adequate Nascar knowledge but this is so out of line...not funny, not cute...stupid..
ReplyDeleteToo weird.....
ReplyDeleteOk this snake deal is VERY UNNCESSARY. Don't want to see dead stuff ..sheesh. WTH? ESPN can't do better than this?
ReplyDeleteRACES should be shorter..I've also thought so for the Green deal. great minds Dot. Course my enviro friends freak out I watch motorsports thus I've thought of shortening the races. STILL talking snake talk
terris
ReplyDelete"What is your message you are sending" is verbose version of "what/how do you feel"
:)
almost say Ray is bringing as much to the table as Larry Mac does.
ReplyDelete38 minutes into the race preview show and the pole sitter finally gets 4 brief seconds of TV time. Yeah eating snakes really should be prioritized over the race. If the people producing the race clearly don't have any interest in what's about to happen for the next 4 hours before the race gets cut off early for AFHV why should the TV audience they should in theory be trying to lure in?
ReplyDeletePretty good show except for the Daugherty feature.
ReplyDeleteNo Casey Mears, Michael Waltrip or Brad K.
Dot, Kez needs a reality check...
ReplyDeletePlease Denny, deliver. =)
Dot, alligator & frog legs tastes like chicken too.
ReplyDeleteWhich would you rather watch:
ReplyDeleteDigger nonsense or eating rattlesnake?
i'm not paying that much attention but am really starting to like Ray E.
ReplyDeleteI always have really..especially since my recently deceased neighbor told me last summer, he'd been at a car show in Indy one year...Ray Evernham came up and started a conversation with him out of the blue..was nice, informative and down to earth.
Cutting out stupidity could make a 1 hour pre-race fluff show a 15 minute fact filled extravaganza....
ReplyDeleteFunny videos show is the finale. $100K winner. Does not bode well for us and post race.
ReplyDeleteI don't look for shorter races regardless of the benefits. Racing is televised for the ad revenue. Shorter races means less time for commercials. Commercials are dominating the races at the current length. Shorter racers means less revenue so there is no chance of it happening.
ReplyDeleteIf gthe viewership continues to drop dramatically, the next TV contract might address the race length but I don't think will happen under the current contract.
Chris, the answer to your question is TNT.
ReplyDelete@ David, oh no. We're at odds again. Still love you. Just ignore my comments about Diva. :)
ReplyDeleteI leave for two days and Dot and Sophia seem to have lost their minds! Shorten the races?! What?!
ReplyDeleteOy!
Anthem and flyover yesterday was amazing, today is going well too.
Also, attendance all weekend was very impressive I felt.
Luke AFB!!
We will never see NASCAR shortening other 500 mile races to 500 kilometers because it makes too much sense.
ReplyDelete"Making sense" is a concept Brian France can't grasp 90% of the time.
Nope, nothing about Max Papis. And I notice they don't even say what kind of aircraft is in the flyover, because THEY DON'T KNOW!
ReplyDelete100% agreed.
ReplyDeleteTNT pwns.
Their only problem is that their running order graphic needs to be more like FOX's -- able to accomodate showing about 7 drivers at a time, and TNT's only shows 1 or 2 at a time.
A GOOD cam shot (for ONCE AT
ReplyDeletefrom BSPN) on the jets and they gyp them OUT EARLY for driver crawling in car??
Thanks for the military respect ESPN. &^%$# idiots.
I won't be using the word GOOD CAM shot rest of the day.
Tyrese needs to stick to acting / modeling ... stay away from singing ...
ReplyDeleteHow about we get Dr Drew Pinsky to sing the National Anthem at Homestead?? He's a fan of NASCAR ... Just as Carl ...
Oh God this is awful already.
ReplyDeleteDo they not know that 73 points is still pretty HARD to overcome???
They take F-16s out of a cam shot!?
ReplyDeleteWTH!? Seemingly I have to go and watch the Thunderbirds to actually see F-16s fly over, nose to tail.
I've never had family in the military, am not a rt winger, but guess I am the only one irked at how BSPN CONTINUES to cut out early on the military fly overs to show drivers kissing/climbing in their cars.
ReplyDeleteOn to next topic.
Wheres my MRN.
p.s. My bad, my great neice on west coast RECENTLY married military guy who is now in Afghanistan...but I've only seen pictures..hear he is sweet young man.
73 points is hard, but it's still possible to beat.
ReplyDeleteWe all know what might happen if Johnson destroys his car again.
Chris in NY
ReplyDeleteglad to see somebody ELSE annoyed with taking jets out of camera shot.
Just when you think cam work can't get 'stupider' it do.
If you want your MRN, Google MRN and Radiotime.com. No more BSPN.
ReplyDeleteOh yeah, Chris. I know that. But there's a reason it's not been done but what, 2 times before?
ReplyDeleteFINALLY they talk to TS!!!
Today's S&P report:
ReplyDelete#66 Dave Blaney
#87 Joe Nemechek
#36 Michael McDowell
#37 Tony Raines
Oh, and ExtenZe is on the #71 car today! :)
@Dot--:)
ReplyDelete@nrf--LOL!
Yes that segment was gross and really need to kill the Brad and food segments!
Poor Tony, cursed today. Hope they don't talk to him later.
ReplyDeletesorry Tony fans that he got the curse this week.
ReplyDeleteDid we miss the start your engines?
ReplyDeleteI dare DJ to shut Tony up LOL ;)
ReplyDeleteMaybe they'll do a 'Full Throttle' on the first lap today! NOT!
ReplyDelete@ Nrf, no. John McCain did it.
ReplyDelete@NRF - Start Your Engines was given at 3:24pm by John McCain.
ReplyDeleteMRN has a bad lag problem. They're 2 laps behind the TV broadcast.
ReplyDeleteWTH?? FULL REPLAY on scrreen...guess GF stopped.
ReplyDeleteNO BUENO.
seeking MRN online, our FM station is now fuzzy :( in the house
Chris
ReplyDeleteThanks for heads up on MRN. lately they've been 1 minute or so BEHIND tv..is annoying..I no gotta DVR
don't want one but still going to MRN...can't afford to drink wine this early in the day :)
Thanks guess I was too busy opening snacks
ReplyDeleteRaines off.
ReplyDeleteJerry Punch has already told us Jimmie Johnson drives the #48 4 times in 10 laps. Isn't it race 35? I have a headache.
ReplyDeleteAh, the voices of MRN on my laptop...almost like a valium...
ReplyDeleteyep, it's the JJ show again..:( radio is talking about some good racing back in the pack. wish they would show it on TV. Blaney & Raines have parked.
ReplyDeleteTony Rains and Blaney already out.
ReplyDeleteMRN is describing the race going on at the back
ReplyDelete#37 is out at lap 7
ReplyDelete#66 pulling off at lap 10
Quick commercial.....ten laps.
ReplyDeleteso basically you are only getting covered if you are between Jimmie Johnson and Mark Martin.
ReplyDeleteWish they would just get up and show the race itself. Even DJ and Andy are trying to push the producer to show other cars....
ReplyDeleteI see the #44 & another car 2 wide, but I am watching Jeff Burton and Ryan Newman by themselves...
ReplyDeleteESPN is reporting the news of the weekend. #39 sponsor, #31 crew chief, #88 crew accident.
Where is the race?!?
WOW! on MRN Barney calling out TV for NOT telling what's going on from 10th car back and THAT's where the REAL RACING IS!
ReplyDeleteWOW.
Barney Hall, will you marry me!!!!!!!!!!
:)
Aj, Michael waltrip and David Reutt. are battling each other. ESPN?
ReplyDeleteNice subtle dig of the TV folks from none other than MRN's Barney Hall...(this is somewhat paraphrased)
ReplyDelete"While the TV people are focusing on the top 10 cars, some of the best racing is going on further back in the pack."
Are you listening, ESPN??
Google WPSK folks..might getta surprise online
ReplyDeletefrom phil: Barney Hall on MRN just called out the TV guys for not calling the racing outside the top 10. Love it. Preach it, Barney!
ReplyDeleteESPN is just going strictly with their script. Nice that he called them out.
ReplyDelete2 #48 / Chad K split screen shots and we have not reached lap 40 yet.
ReplyDeleteTom
ReplyDeleteESPN not listening..they think THEY know best.
They just want to infuriate and insult.
MRN giving us what we want..even tho they have a TON of commercials too..sign of the times.
WE KNOW ESPN WILL NEVER CHANGE.
sorry for the caps..but true...
It's turned into the HMS show today.
ReplyDeleteBobby Labonte having a great run early on.
ReplyDeleteAndy: Everyone's car is smoking - there is no conspiracy.
ReplyDeleteJimmie Johnson's name has been said over 15 times already. I am keeping track today.
Howdy folks! Better late than never :)
ReplyDeleteSo I tune in just in time for JP to tell me that Jimmie can clinch here today by finishing 4th or better in the last two races.
Hmmm...
@sophia: thanks for the wpsk info! my local is carrying football so i'm working the laptop and now listening in. many thanks!
ReplyDeleteSam is still in the top ten and no mentions of his run?
ReplyDeleteI wonder if it will ever occur to anyone at ESPN or Daytona that putting so muc focus on 'the chase' (especially since it has been less than close lately) is really hurting them overall? If you don't make the race you're showing TODAY relevant and important, no one cares by the end of the season.
ReplyDeleteDot - We've (Gymmie & I) called him the "prima donna" ... since his rookie year ... LOL
ReplyDelete#36 out at lap 37
ReplyDelete#87 pulling off at lap 48
The S&P bunch is off the track.
MRN on WPSK isfar behind the live action. They are 2 laps behind.
ReplyDeletered
ReplyDeleteur welcome. I don't even KNOW why i have tv on...not looking at it but I feel like I am sitting outside race track with MRN guys and engine noise. :-)
My buddy is streaming from Direct Tv with the MRN announcers and man what a difference. So much excitement and information.
ReplyDeleteand here's Tim again in the big box.
ReplyDeleteIt's the 'JJ only" show today. How about hose fans that don't give a rip about JJ?
ReplyDeleteESPN no split screen tech? Just looked up to see JJ car and ignoring rest of track.
ReplyDeleteYou peeps gotta find MRN online. Who cares if they are 5 minutes behind tv..they also have brief momemnts of engines and NO TALKING between commercials.
You will enjoy more. Promise.
Oh Dear God, I love JJ but this is just rediculous. SHOW THE F>>> RACE
ReplyDelete@ tia, that's a good one. Diva shorter to type.
ReplyDeleteWas that full-screen replay for Jimmie pushing a little smoke out the tail pipe really necessary?
ReplyDeleteOK, the green flag drops and 15 minutes later it is all I can do to stay awake!
ReplyDeleteI wasn't feeling sleepy before this. I've even got some diet coke in me.
I'm happy to hear Ray Evernham back in the infield studio. Rusty can offer the drivers perspective, Ray can offer the crew cheif perspective, Brad can....umm...uhh...be excited.
ReplyDeletei agree w/sophia: since i'm not watching the tv, it doesn't matter how far behind mrn is running! i'm hearing a great race: are you guys seeing it?
ReplyDeletenever mind. i'm pretty sure i know the answer.
Did they show the pass for the lead. Did this happen during the Tim B. piece?
ReplyDeleteKyle 11 away from pitting.
ReplyDeleteSorry, computer was being retarded folks. Back now.
Ann O
ReplyDeleteCould I have some of your dcoke.
With a double shot of JACK DANIELS. j/kidding..don't drink hard liquor but Mama mia BSPN will drive ya all to it.
This is ridiculous, all what ESPN have have covered is Mark Martin and Jimmie Johnson.
ReplyDeleteWe are watching MM hotpass and they are showing & telling us much more about the "other" non-chase driver.
ReplyDeletePetree just spoke the truth.
ReplyDeleteAll Kyle needs to do on Saturday is start that race to clinch the championship.
At least someone over there actually gets what happened yesterday.
OMG!!! Smoke coming out of the #16 car in the corners! Time for a replay (sarcasm)
ReplyDeleteI've given up. Listening to MRN. Sorry, folks. I thought I could withstand the pressure.
ReplyDeleteI really do love NASCAR, but I'm so glad this season is almost over. ESPN has completely sucked the excitement out of the sport.
ReplyDeleteSplit screen to show JJ totally alone?
ReplyDelete@ Becky, right on sister.
ReplyDelete@terrisanislo: welcome aboard! remote is in spouse's hands & the tv in the other room is dark.
ReplyDeleteand i'm actually enjoying a race for the first time in weeks!
Gack!! This coverage is just like a Hoover ...
ReplyDeleteSplit screen and one is just Jimmie ...
And they continue to wonder WHY ratings / attendance are down ...
I am seeing more Jimmy Johnson on ABC's telecast than I am on the Hotpass Jimmy Johnson channel? FTW! How can that be???
ReplyDeleteAh, clicked off tv and off to kitchen to prep for dinner..laptop on counter...tv can be turned off IF need be...BSPN never catches stuff live anyway..and plenty of time for us radio peeps to turn on tv.
ReplyDeleteYou will be MUCH happier and enjoy the race better with MRN guys.
Trust some of us.
:)
Notice they finally had the leader in the small screen during pit stops....because Jimmie Johnson was the leader.
ReplyDeletePat Tryson = "Lame Duck" crew chief...Really? Really? There's lots of lame going around today but it has nothing to do with Pat Tryson!!
ReplyDeleteIm on MRN too. this is just rough. Being at the track without a scanner or radio call to listen to I felt like I knew what was going on better than this...
ReplyDeleteSomething cool PIR did that TV I dont think showed all weekend was they had active, former, and family of military all stand for pre-race and were all thanked for their service. Neat stuff.
Anyone having problems with pit command? Still have sound but lost the cars/circles
ReplyDelete@becky i cannot encourage you strongly enough to turn off the tv & just listen to mrn. you will get that espn taste out of your mouth & start smiling about a race once again.
ReplyDeleteheck, i can even stand the commercials b/c i KNOW i'll be coming back to great coverage. (plus i just got a weather forecast for VA -- and i'm outside philly!)
they show JG & MM passing KH & before the pass is even complete, they jump to JJ chasing Big Busch? OMG, these camera guys have ADD for sure..
ReplyDelete@ dara, now that's funny.
ReplyDeleteWell, there was the first "if the Chase ended now" graphic. sigh
ReplyDeleteWhat happened to Sammy?? He was in the top 10 and now he's like 20th !?!?!?
ReplyDeleteNice field run down on hotpass/MRN. Good action around the track that we are actually seeing - not just JJ or MM. Maybe the other drivers have to have first name/last name with same letters so ABC will show them.
ReplyDelete@NewRaceFan - I have exactly the opposite. All the cars going 'round and 'round, but no sound. sigh again.
ReplyDeleteyes NRF, same issue here
ReplyDeleteI still think Andy and DJ are trying to do the right thing. But, they are being told what to do in their ear...ya know?
ReplyDeleteHave to emphasize that DirecTV is really paying off after ordering it for the first time this year. While I was at first disappointed that they weren't covering Nascar this year for the $99 a season, I can't believe how great this is compared to ESPN.
ReplyDeleteIn case you just joined us (sorry, had to do it), they are providing MRN audio with two camera angles...one of the selected driver channel and the other of the TV coverage. When ESPN goes to commercial, I still get the driver cam and sometimes a second camera as well.
It's awesome. I can never watch ESPN cover Nascar again without changes and wouldn't anyways with DirecTV.
Also, I don't watch Nationwide races anymore because of this. If DirecTV did that, I'd be in.
I have same issue with Pit Command. No cars, no times, no nothing.
ReplyDeleteIf I hear Punch say "Jimmie Johnson" one more time...........
ReplyDeleteNow that the football game is over the other TV went to Hotpass. The Sprint Vision video feed we see when ABC goes to commercial is far superior to the ABC feed. MRN talks about everyone still in the race. But they don't update us on points as they are running now and MRN doesn't have a bingo game going either. What is wrong with those radio people?
ReplyDeleteI was switching between #48 Hot Pass & ABC (ESPN) and lost track of which was which...
ReplyDeletePit Command fixed JD was that you?
ReplyDeleteShall I say this again? This is race #35 / 36. We should be beyond the basics at this point. I could not believe they had Jerry Punch tell us you can go below the yellow line at Phoenix. They just insulted my knowledge of NASCAR.
ReplyDeleteNow they are covering everything ESPN missed in pit stops 10 laps ago...trainwreck in progress.
pit command working again.
ReplyDeleteWatching the Cardinals game, got the MRN call on and KyBu's radio going too.
I can't sit and watch that ESPN mess anymore
@VickyD - Kasey Kahne and Scott Speed haven't been shown all day, so your double initials theory isn't holding water. :)
ReplyDeleteAnon @ 4:18 - I gave up counting once my tally reached 50.
ReplyDelete@red ... I *am* listening to MRN, but I have the tv on, w/ volume on low, just in case ESPN/ABC catches something I want to see (even though I know that's pretty doubtful). Maybe I *should* just turn the tv off and continue listening to MRN.
ReplyDeleteThey should do their 'up to speed' on cars 6-43. We have seen more than enough of the top 5.
ReplyDeleteWhew, tough to watch right now for anyone but the casual fan.
ReplyDeleteMartin - you are so right! My mistake.
ReplyDeleteWhat is this commercials every ten laps? I would still have no clue where anyone but the top 5 are. Good thing I multitask
ReplyDelete@becky: all i can say is this: never turned on the tv today -- went straight to the laptop for various windows and mrn.
ReplyDeletei'm finding i'm enjoying cup racing again . . .
I don't think I will be able to keep my eyes open much longer.
ReplyDeleteI better be seeing AB at the bottom of the hour.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if Kasey Kahne saw any debris?
ReplyDelete@ becky: you can also find an online site w/tv coverage and keep it up in a window for viewing as needed.
ReplyDeletewhat is this? Come back from commercials and the view is out the front window of the 48. Can't they think of something else?
ReplyDeletedebris?
ReplyDeleteThey did NOT just change the camera when Mark was coming right up on Jimmie in the pits?????? OMG, what a MISS! Pathetic.
ReplyDeleteKyBu's throttle cable sticking
ReplyDeleteThrow it to the Infield Studio and let the booth have time for a trip to Starbucks.
ReplyDeletePoor poor Mikey.
ReplyDeleteAnother wreck we caught too late...
ReplyDeleteKyle: "That was a front row wreck. Front row not going"
ReplyDeleteBTW, did anyone see any debris?
ReplyDelete@Sophia--yup MRN/PRN is always calling out TV. Brett (PRN) does it a lot on Twitter
ReplyDelete@bevo--RFLMAO! he can clinch *today* by finishing 4th or better in the last two races. Have MRN on so missed that diddy. Will have to listen for it when Crazy replays later.
@BADH--too funny Crazy has Marky Mark up on Hotpass this week.
@dara--LOL!
What a wreck! NA$CAR RealTime tweeted that they saw that happening in Turn 3 bet TV had no clue
Was a water bottle from a fan on the grass next to the track....
ReplyDeleteGymmie, I told you what PRN did before the Chase started didn't I? mentioned it here, they had a facebook poll asking if you wanted to hear about the RACE or the Chase? Guess what option won?
ReplyDeleteESPN: "Look at that point margin!"
-sigh- JD I am not optimistic about 2010
We're listening/watching hotpass and didn't hear whether JP announced any S&P's.
ReplyDeleteLove the shirt Mikey
ReplyDeletemy worst nightmare...tired of not knowing what was going on, I turned on my MRN station...and nothing but static! Fortunately I found it online, cause I realized I wasn't going to find anything out through them. That's funny, a Ron Capps shirt on Mikey...
ReplyDeleteNice 'close up the field' caution because nobody was close enough to race.
ReplyDeleteOK...is JG a better driver to save his car when he gets nudged, or is Denny just jealous because Nascar doesn't listen to him?
ReplyDeleteLensly, not on the live race blog. It moves too fast and we try to stick to the race as the topic.
ReplyDeleteJust email me if you want to suggest another topic. Thanks.
they just said 'set sail' on MRN....:)
ReplyDeleteSix--they only care about Sammy if he's wrecking :(
ReplyDelete@David--at least SOMEONE wants to listen to the fans
Sally, Jeff got hit in the door. Denny got hit in the left rear. They are QUITE different situations.
ReplyDeletethats all I am going to say on that because that's a situation that really fires me up.
MRN going through the field
never mind, read it on TWitter WHIFF TV missed the wreck...sorry for Mikey's mess..he actually seemed depressed (naturally) but made me sad...glad all are safe.
ReplyDeleteNow tv back off and listening to MRN :-)
Cold light beer, gave cats a snack of salmon before making up patties, they are all happy and washing their faces with smiles...all is well.
And the soothing dulcet tones of MRN :-D
FYI:PitCommand. Nascar.com tech rep said they had issues with the GPS at the track and were forced to reboot the system.
