Live Blogging Sprint Cup Series From Talladega (12PM - FOX)
Here we go with what may be the highest-rated Sprint Cup Series race of the season. The high banks of Talladega are calling and FOX is the network for the race.
Chris Myers opens the show with Jeff Hammond and Darrell Waltrip alongside. Myers is a mess this season. He plays the fool on FOX while being the sophisticated host on Showtime's Inside NASCAR. The recent rain delay he hosted was just awful.
Talladega is a race that calls for a cool head when things go bad. The speeds are approaching 200mph with the new spoiler package and Myers needs to set the right tone. The element of danger has returned and kidding because you care does not have a place here today.
Darrell Waltrip spilled the beans on Dale Earnhardt Jr. driving the #3 car in the Nationwide Series race in Daytona. Waltrip has a new Twitter account and he had been typing like a man possessed. The Earnhardt and RCR camps were none too happy with "ole DW." Should be interesting if he uses the pre-race show to apologize.
Mike Joy and Larry McReynolds are waiting in the TV booth for Waltrip to call the race. Joy has been decidedly low-key this season. At times, he seems almost uninterested. Whatever the reason, there has been a big change to the way the FOX play-by-play announcer calls a race.
Many fans have suggested that Joy is merely tired of Waltrip and McReynolds talking overtop of him. That may be the case, as both men have left their traditional analysts roles and routinely stop Joy as they offer random comments and emotional outbursts. Waltrip calling for Junior to win at Daytona is still fresh in the minds of many.
The best pit road reporters on TV will be fighting to get on the air once the green flag flies. Waltrip and McReynolds talk more than any other analysts on TV and the FOX pit reporters are often a lonely bunch. Steve Byrnes, Matt Yocum, Dick Berggren and Krista Voda should have a very interesting day.
Look for the battle between wideshots and the excessive use of in-car cameras to be going full steam today. This race can be covered in a variety of ways by the TV Director, so what the FOX guys choose to show today will go a long way in either exciting or frustrating the viewers.
Weather is clear, there have been no TV problems reported and the crowd is huge. This has the potential to be the best and highest-rated Cup race of the season.
This post will serve to host your comments on the TV coverage of the race by FOX. To add your comments, just click on the comments button below. This is a family-friendly website, please keep that in mind when posting. Thanks and let's go racing.
Good Morning Planeteers! Happy (hopefully) double Race Day <3
ReplyDeleteWill be glad when they go back to a straight pre-race and stop all the silly gimmicks and cheap promos :(
Strap in folks, this is going to be interesting.
ReplyDeleteHard to believe, but this is the first race to be run on Sunday since Bristol. First hour long pre-race show not to be dealing with rain since then....so, the pre-race show will probably go back to the norm (Pizzi, etc.)
ReplyDeleteNice opening.....screw who wins the race, let's see who crashes the best!
ReplyDeleteI sincerely hope that SOMEONE puts a sock in Waltrips mouth, but I am swimming upstream...Hope also its a safe race with LOTS of challenges...
ReplyDeleteI think DW is going to be an issue today. Maybe now more than ever.
ReplyDeleteThis recent Fox obsession with nothing but crashes (last week's "Top 10 crashes in Fox's history" and this week's open) makes me sick. I guess that's what happens when you're dealing with a production crew made up of non-NASCAR fans. SICK!
ReplyDeleteThe storyline today is sell the "big one".
ReplyDeleteToo much time spent on these morning shows today on previous wrecks. Why don't they concentrate on the racing instead. And how many times today are we going to see videos of Bobby Allison's and Carl's wrecks at dega? Looks like a really nice day there, it's beautiful here in Houston too.
ReplyDeleteBetween RaceDay on SPEED and now FOX, it's been strange to see them replay the Edwards crash so many times and make it the theme.
ReplyDeletewho is this fox pre-race show and why are they suddenly using pit reporters? A strange beginning
ReplyDeleteCan't think of a NASCAR race I look forward to more. Used to be Daytona but ever since Dale passed there it hasn't been the same. Anyway, I just hope Fox doesn't screw up the coverage too much. Fingers are crossed
ReplyDeleteBut, of course, you get the announcers occasionally say "we hope we don't see the big one". But then turnaround and go crazy when one occurs.
ReplyDeleteThey always go to the pit reporters during the first segment, to tell us who they'll be interviewing during pre-race. They make it sound like it's going to be a feature story, but ends up being just a 30-second interview.
ReplyDeleteMust've run out of drivers to willingly participate in Pizzi.
ReplyDeleteI see the drivers have already tired of being "interviewed" by Pizzi.
ReplyDeleteGod. Maybe they'll kill the segment now.
wish the Dega dudes has whipped pizza's butt!
ReplyDeleteWhy is it too much to ask for Fox to just talk about today's race??????
ReplyDeleteSo far we've gotten old crash videos, Myers, Hammond, DW, Joy, Larry Mac, all 4 Fox pit reporters, storm geek, Miss Sprint Cup, phone commercials, and the fat cable puller that's not funny at all!!!!
How about drivers, owners, crew chiefs, starting lineup, point standings,..... ANYTHING RELATED TO THE RACE FOR GOD'S SAKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Good Morning all
ReplyDeleteWhy exactly did I put on the pre race? What was I thinking?
Pizzi is actually more insulting this week than ever before. Was that supposed to be funny? Yikes it ought to be how low can we go...
ANON...
ReplyDeleteRelax buddy. It's an hour show. Would love to see you produce a show. Harder than you think.
WOW. More Carl.
ReplyDelete... and now Fox's stupid fantasy racing game that's disguised with a Directv logo to make the public think it isn't Fox's own deal. THIS IS AWFUL!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI FINALLY saw something funny with that Pizza fool.
ReplyDeleteThe blond haired women said she had never heard of Hammond or Myers. Lol.
Anon 12:12.. Agreed
ReplyDeleteHow about Myers peddling that cell phone?? Awfull, that's for commercials..
That's once every five minutes. Thank goodness they really can't wreck that bad that often.
ReplyDeleteI ment anon 12:22
ReplyDeleteJohnP-I thought that was only funny thing I've seen from the pizza guy. Blonde evidently doesn't watch the races.
ReplyDeleteSo was that the Chris Myers from the Inside Nascar show?
ReplyDeleteAnother rewstrictor plate track, and I expect Fox to give us LOTS of bumper cam shots to prove the cars are close. Oh joy.
ReplyDeleteHey, when did Jr shave???? Might mess up his mojo.
ReplyDeleteAnd Jr. is popular why?
ReplyDeleteJunior looked a little uncomfortable being asked that question about shaving.
ReplyDeleteHe had a photo shoot during the week. No beard for that.
ReplyDelete"Harder than you think"..... Amazingly though only one of the four major NASCAR trucks (Fox) is making talking about NASCAR look like advanced Calculus. I don't see TNT, ESPN, or Speed's Campipng World group struggling nearly that badly.
ReplyDeleteNo in-house employees turned fake comedians, no cartoons, no skits, no company fantasy game updates, no "storm scout", no product placement, just a preview of the race itself... Calculus indeed (rolls eyes).
A lot of the things during this pre-race show is repeat of things talked about during RaceDay.
ReplyDeleteThis could be the best TV rating of the season for NASCAR.
ReplyDeleteOh dear Lord....co-opetaters??...wish someone would take one of Idaho's finest and jam it in Waltrips gaspipe....PLEEZ!!!!and I didn't see or hear an apology from Waltrip for blowing Earnhardts announcement....What class!!
ReplyDeleteGuess Jr. didn't like Krista asking about the beard. I didn't think that was a brilliant question either the look on his was priceless! What will they talk about on the post-race show if there's not wrecks in the race today? That's all I'm seeing and that Pizzi was awful, luckily I was in the kitchen cleaning up and missed most of it.
ReplyDeleteJD, wonder what will happen if it's not Nascar's best tv rating of the year. Afterall, both Cup and Nationwide fans are there and watching at the same time from what I understand.
ReplyDeleteThis is the last big splash for FOX before they go bye bye.
ReplyDeleteYUCK!!!!
ReplyDeleteI have to admit, Pizzi was really funny today, and I liked the stuff with the 24 & 48 last week too.
ReplyDeleteDale Jr. has totally lost his sense of humor when being interviewed and to me that has made him a tough interview. I blame his lack of success to date at Hendrick and the questions he was asked, that seemed to me to perturb him, the previous two seasons by some of the ESPN announcers. He was a lot more fun to listen to in an interview before ESPN came along.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by a blog administrator.
ReplyDeleteDie Hard Nascar Fans will watch the race regardless, I'm sure fox is going after the fringe viewer by hyping crashes and humor/attempts at humor. Whether we like it or not thats the reality
ReplyDeleteGood point about the ESPN deal. Those guys have never been the same. Jr. knows Krista and what she is about.
ReplyDeleteSucks that this stupid bracket thing has basically cancelled NASCAR Hotpass for these 4 weeks. Always love watching JR's dedicated channel at the plate races. Not today though, we get the "Allmendinger vs. Truex" matchup channel instead :(
ReplyDeleteNASCAR tied to go after the "casual fan" years ago. Found out they did not exist.
ReplyDeleteHoped FOX would change this season and present this sport differently No such luck.
Krist and Jr. have known each other for over 8 years, they are the same age and use to always have fun in an interview. Doesn't happen anymore.
ReplyDelete@batchief --- I agree with you about Dale becoming a tough interview. Yet, during last week's rain delay at Texas, Jerry Punch got one of the best interviews I ever heard from Dale.
ReplyDeleteGuess it depends on who is asking the questions.
I think I will stay here in the computer room and play some solitare until the talking heads in the booth stop yakkin'.... oh waitaminute.... I guess until the race starts!
ReplyDeleteAs Junior was talking, my only reaction was...."Hey Jr., that's Krista!"
ReplyDeleteI think it depends on Jr's mood. He might be still pissed at FOX about DW opening his mouth about the 3 car.
ReplyDeleteAnyone who watch's Nascar to see race cars wreck must also enjoy watching wrecked cars on the highway and the ambulances and helicopters that land around them. That was total non-sence.
ReplyDeleteFranna, that is why we were whomping ESPN over the past three years to get Jerry back on pit road and out of the booth.
ReplyDeleteESPN has a lot of work to do in the garage before the Cup stuff starts.
I agree with your last sentence TRL. I think he is more responsive to the guys then the gals lately.
ReplyDeleteYou can read about DW and Junior at thatsracin.com
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by a blog administrator.
ReplyDelete@TexasRaceLady...I was thinking the same thing. Maybe right before the start of a restrictor plate race isn't the best timing for a 'light-hearted' interview.
ReplyDeleteoh good opening ceremonies.... just won a game of solitare...score was 666 before the time bonus - guess I better go for the prayer!!
ReplyDeletehey gang! just got in, will take a while to catch up with you! be back in a bit!
ReplyDeleteAnthem singer was good...but the name?? How many ways can you spell Brittany?? (that's rhetorical)
ReplyDeleteGood anthem and well timed flyover. Starting things off right.
ReplyDeleteComputer is cranky today - don't know how I'll make it through two races with no Daly Planet blog and no Twitter - wish me luck. Only wish I could turn off C Meyers and D Waltrip a easily as my computer. Safe racing everyone and may be best man win.
ReplyDelete@Ann_O --- you'd be surprised. I taught school for 30yrs and some of the names I had to struggle with would blow your mind.
ReplyDeleteFOX this track is a big one. Please show the race with wide shots. Inside, outside rows move, not single cars. Let us see the rows move and not tight shots of a single car.
ReplyDeleteAnd this is a dream hope but stay away from all the in-car cams. Showing me in-car does not help me see where all the other cars are.
It would of been nice if they had done a "moment of silence" for those lost in yesterdays 40some tornado's. Especially that big one in Mississippi.
ReplyDeleteReporters griping about empty grandstands. Wonder if the traffic problems are making folks late.
ReplyDeleteLet's see if TV shows the stands.
John P---
ReplyDeleteCompletely agree.
Fox is gonna kill us with bumper cams and in-car shots today.
ReplyDeleteOut on the patio with the race on the other laptop, couple of cigars and some iced tea to start the day. Clear blue skies and 75 degrees.
ReplyDeleteWhat's going to be interesting is after this race is over and all the scrambling that'll be taking place to get the Nationwide race started and get it in before darkness sets in.
ReplyDeleteIf they can't fill the stands at 'Dega seating both Cup an Nationwide races today and junior running strong....things are really bad in Nascar.
ReplyDeleteBevo---
ReplyDeleteCigar and a brewsky sounds better!!!!
TV crew in place, pre-race show over...time to make the donuts.
ReplyDeleteCrowd they just showed looked pretty good to me.
ReplyDeleteTrackpass on NASCAR.com has no scanners working. On the email with the Turner guys right now.
ReplyDeleteNo twitter and no trackpass scanner !! WTH
ReplyDeleteI just switched over to SAP on FOX and it is the ambient sound, no booth, no pits, just the natural sound. Not sure if it is a goof on FOX's part or what. Unfortunatly on DTV you can only listen to SAP on the SD channels, not HD.
ReplyDeleteBeer comesa little bit later, got to get some caffeine first :)
ReplyDeletescanners have been screwed up a lot this year, it's really starting to get old
ReplyDeleteOK working just as the green got thrown, will let you know if craps out again
Wow. That shot of the stands showed a pretty sparse upper deck crowd. If this was Monday I could understand.
ReplyDeleteHelp! My station (KAYU-TV) in Spokane) aired two infomercials )6(6 Week Body Makeover and Meaningful Beauty) plus they aired three minutes of commercials. As a result, the anthem and the invocation were not televised. Why is that the case?
ReplyDeletegeez, lap 2 and DW has already used "wad" twice, wish I could get MRN and mute FOX
ReplyDeletenow caught up.
ReplyDeletethought: why exactly are we using an in-car on the 88 to show him drafting and all we can see is the headlight decal?
i have a VERY bad feeling about this.
and DW? please, dear god in heaven, ZIP IT, PINHEAD!
ok, i'm done now.
2 updates:
ReplyDeleteNASCAR.com only turned on the team scanners as the field was coming to the green. Fans are pissed.
The Spokane TV station refused to carry the pre-race show. FOX must carry is only the race. FOX not happy.
DW - "Don't need no dadgum seat" Shut up DW !
ReplyDelete4 wide and they show the leader being pushed. I would rather see the 4 wide but that is just me, I guess.
ReplyDeleteJust noticed Mike Joy always takes the time to identify driver hometowns when they're in Modified country (Syracuse, NY and Middletown, CT).
ReplyDeleteDon't think he stops to say random cities in California or North Carolina,
Oh for the love of God stop the car camera shots already
ReplyDeleteSeeing to many rear-ends of cars
ReplyDeleteJeff- go to:
ReplyDeletehttp://www.thundercountry.com/mediaplayer/?station=WCTH-FM&action=listenlive&channel_title=
The are streaming the MRN broadcast.
This is the other problem with multi car teams. This 'working together' stuff doesn't make for the best competition.
ReplyDeleteBeing that your blog featured a story complete with mug shot of J.C. France back when he had his run in with the law, it seems odd that it is no news now that his case has been dismissed. NOT GUILTY, IT DOES HAPPEN. Maybe an follow up is in order for this faultless accused racer. Just my 2 cents.
ReplyDeleteThought they forgot the caution there
ReplyDeleteThe truck booth is !&#^!&#^!&#^ HORRIBLE with all in car cams. WIDE SHOTS>
ReplyDelete*sigh* listening on radio as Fox BUTCHERS the race. If you must show bumper/incar, use SPLIT screen.
Who's picking the cameras? Stevie WOnder.
the WIDE SHOTS ARE GORGEOUS!!!!!!
In between the in car/bumper cam NONSENS.
in car cams are more helpful for rePLY. Go robby g
J.C. France got off on a technicality. The France family name and $$$$ rule Daytona.
ReplyDeleteDid you guys hear KK say he was blowing up?
ReplyDeleteAnon 1:37...what i read was that the case was dismissed because of a juristictional dispute about exactly where he was when he was stopped...by a cop out of his juristiction. Not exactly 'Not Guilty'.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by a blog administrator.
ReplyDeletecan't believe all the lead changes. MRN saying 10 different lead changes already. Holy Toledo.
ReplyDeleteLove Barney Hall :)
Thanks John!
ReplyDeletehow much longer does this stupid head to head thing last?
Still can't believe he walked. That was sure a mess.
ReplyDeleteThe France name and $$$$ rule Daytona Beach. JC France got off on a technicality.
ReplyDelete@JohnP--agreed :(
ReplyDelete@TRL--I've seen many a name that just make you scratch your head. It's one thing to be creative and not have your child to be one of 8 million Michaels or 8 million Jennifers but think about others having to pronounce it and when they try to get jobs. I've seen a few that are pronounced normally but the spelling makes the names look X rated! In a professional setting some of those names won't go over very well!
I'm tired of this bracket stuff I hope they kill it next year. How much longer do we have to put up with that?
Fox needs to dump this bracket crap and the Pizzi idiot. More failures the fans hate - just like digger.
ReplyDeleteThey missed pit stops on a competition yellow? How does that happen?
ReplyDeleteJeff, through the FOX portion.
ReplyDeleteThe entire focus of the DirecTV head to head deal is to get a new mailing/email list for DirecTV marketing.
JEFF
ReplyDeletealso go hear for MRN online! :)

Did FOX really just miss pit stops while they were in commercial. And on a caution they KNEW was coming out before hand? Very poor planning.
ReplyDeleteKahne leaving RPM with 26 races left in 2010 and the car "blows up" ? Hmmmmm - black helicopters shovering.
ReplyDeleteGee, that did not work out very well for FOX.
ReplyDeleteKasey Kahne announces he's leaving RPM and there are 26 races left. And the car "blows up" early in the race? Hmmmm - black helicopters are hovering.
ReplyDeleteCannot believe FOX knew the caution was coming, went to commercial, and MISSED live pits stops!
ReplyDeleteStop this insanity --- show us the RACE. KISS(Keep It Simple, Stupid)
More wide field shots, but heck, it's Dega - there are more cars in the same amount of space.
ReplyDeleteTransitions between the finish line shot and the next camera have been choppy.
All I'm hearing in the other room is comercials, commercials, commmercilassss.....
@becky: Did FOX really just miss pit stops while they were in commercial.
ReplyDelete"nothing to see here, just move along."
this is just so frustrating today -- and so early in the race. i may just walk away until the last 50 or so laps rather than get aggravated.
MRN is about 30 seconds or so behind the tv..can be annoying with all the action. Since we got DVR can pause about 30 seconds to sync tv & MRN.
ReplyDeleteNo if we could ONLY find different VIDEO feed online via RaceBuddy. i'd be happy :)
Mike Calinoff (spotter extrordinare) messing up?
ReplyDeletejust when you think Fox can't get any worse - they prove me wrong.
ReplyDeleteHow is it they can't figure out competition cautions yet Larry Mac thinks he can read a drivers mind?
Is Matt K telling off his spotter?
Local TV is over riding for Tornado warnings...
Nice to see The Mayor up there racing and getting some TV love.
ReplyDeleteANON @ 1:37 PM
ReplyDeleteJ.C. is that you? You got off on a technicality, you lucky dog. You know you're quilty as sin.
@jojaye: actually, i was impressed with how rational both matt and mike were in that driver/spotter exchange. respect all around, matt gave concrete examples, spoke calmly and was answered in kind.
ReplyDeleteand that was an excellent use of audio by fox.
unfortunately, they let dw get stupid immediately after so it was almost all for naught.
Great thing about using the tv tuner on the laptop? Laptop speakers. Can't hear DW much :)
ReplyDeleteJust to clear things up, is Waltrip's car owned by Prism or MWR?
ReplyDeleteMikey and Dale Jr. are together, what year is this?
ReplyDeletejust chit chatting and not so much Play by Play.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeletealready over "the two car tango" cliche, guys. please find another expression or two.
ReplyDeleteWhy do you all complain on here about Pizzi and Digger and anything else that's fun about racing? Maybe some of you would be happier watching tennis or golf or some other boring sport that leaves the fun out.
ReplyDeleteChris from NY-
ReplyDeletePrism is the listed owner of the #55 for points and whatnot, but it's one of Mikey's cars prepared, I believe, by his crew.
Good thing too, because if it was an MWR care, he would have missed the race due to rain with too few attempts.
@red -thanks for clarify - we got a few words then the over ride kicked in & I could only catch words here or there...Glad it was respectful.
ReplyDeleteMatts usually not rude.
Weather is hitting from the gulf here in Tampa & points just north. it may get ugly
cool seeing MIKEY & JR together!!!
ReplyDeleteAnon @ 1:53,
ReplyDeleteTo us the racing is the fun part
Mikey leading as Fox goes to commercial and getting RUNDOWN by MRN.
ReplyDeleteLOVE MRN!! Tony 26th I think. Jeff Gordon before him,. JPM 36th 40th Max Papis
Geez, DW cheering for Mikey is awful...:(
ReplyDeleteAnnon, MWR helps PRISM alot, the 66 is an MWR car, if you look at the paint scheme it matches one of Ambrose's
ReplyDeleteanon @1:53: not certain you really want an answer to your question but here's my answer:
ReplyDeleteit's not fun, it's demeaning to my sport. it's insulting, immature, childish and insulting. i am an intelligent fan who sees moments of great humor in my sport. the two "creations" you cite are not funny, not interesting, not informative and not representative of my sport.
Bad weather + bad directing = not-so-good day up in NY.
ReplyDeleteanon @ 1:53...perhaps you would be happier watching the Toon channel or the Comedy channel?
ReplyDeleteKenseth is in 43rd place all alone with no draft... and they play audio of him and his spotter? Uh, did I miss what happened to put him back there while I was in here? Just before they started these commercials he looked about to get lapped.
ReplyDeleteYea, chit chatting, not play by play...
and whomever it was that thinks that Digger and Pizzi are the most fun things about racing - he don't know racing! If you don't like racing, just go watch hockey.
Well stated Red
ReplyDeleteI know it was already mentioned but the SAP track only has the sounds of the racetrack. It's awesome!
ReplyDeleteIs it just me or is DW getting even worse today about "stomping" (talking over) even Larry Mac today?
ReplyDeleteoh great NOT! just pop Fake Freddy Krueger up on the whole screen in the middle of cars!!!
ReplyDeleteWho is sitting back and waiting for the end and who is working with who to help make this happen?
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by a blog administrator.
ReplyDeleteLocking on the #31 and #18 didn't let us see the other line catching up.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteBTW fox only caught part of Kyle's audio. He said the 31 car is FAST...FOX selling it as 18 talking about his own car.
ReplyDeletered...unfortunately, the idea is to make everybody pay attention to the ad because most of us have gotten so good at ignoring peripheral stuff at the bottom of the screen.
ReplyDeletehave they done any PXP in this broadcast?
ReplyDeleteanon 2:00 red speaks for alot of us on this blog. we want the racing shown w/wide shots & interviews with the racers. we all have our opinions.
ReplyDeleteWe aren't seeing anything from the guys farther back! How many times have they been off of the lead pack? Plus, the cars are more spread out than usual, which makes it worse. Usually, you can still see a good chunk of the cars at Talladega even with Fox's tight camera shots.
ReplyDeleteYea, let's have some actual play by play, some race strategy and analysis, please. I can do more interesting chit chat with my cocker spaniels than DW!!
ReplyDeleteHey I have Nationwide Race tickets. Went to my seat and some guy was in it with Sprint Cup tickets. They said I could use my Nationwide tix today for cup race. Bet that 2 for 1 deal causes some issues.
ReplyDeleteIs anybody else's sound fading in / out by volume?
ReplyDeleteHappy to have everyone voice their comments on the TV coverage.
ReplyDeleteCool insight on how they used to lay the spoilers all the way back. I bet that was wild.
ReplyDeleteCamera shots are still scared to use the "margins" - that part of the screen that somebody still on an old square analog tv is not going to see - especially to put the leader in there and show more further back.
ReplyDelete@KoHoSo : agreed in re:slasher. have you seen it used in any other sports broadcast, though? that's what startled me. can't recall seeing it on nhl, mlb, nfl, mls. (don't watch nba so can't comment on that.)
ReplyDeleteRed, and others. Fox has the best and smartest team on TV. Hammond is brilliant and so is DW. They are champions. The other announcers are great also. If the commercials insult you then too bad as that is how they pay for this so you can watch.
ReplyDeleteThank you Arnie K.
ReplyDeleteThese two-car breakaways make me sick to think this is Talladega, and that I will be going to Daytona probably to see this makes me want to throw up, but it's interesting which two cars are making the getaway.
ReplyDeleteKyle Busch didn't even give enough of a damn to let Johnson by. If I were Johnson, I would have backed off.
Those guys in the second pack are just far enough back to get caught up in the wreck....
ReplyDeleteBlogger red said...
ReplyDeleteWTF was that? freddie kruger slashing the full screen? i cannot understand why this sort of commercial interruption only happens in nascar! you would NOT have seen that on the nfl of mlb broadcasts -- or even on mls broadcasts!
just insulting!
actually you see that sort of thing all the time.
No mention of the S&P teams. Fox's ticker is showing Nemechek 5 laps down, but not off. Looks like he and Blaney are done for the day. Only other S&P expected is Mike Bliss.
ReplyDeleteJust thinking about that. Who parked already?
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by a blog administrator.
ReplyDeletered...I can't recall seeing that type of thing used in any other sport other than soccer. Even then, it seems that the director is careful to always do it when one team is fully controlling the ball, is no closer to the goal than midfield, and obviously holding on to it to set up for some offense. Of course, that kind of thing is more appropriate for soccer because it has no commercials and does have plenty of those periods of no action.
ReplyDeleteI don't disagree one bit that it is too intrusive and makes most viewers more angry than interested in the product.
This sure would work for side by side commercials today.
ReplyDeleteWhat the hell was the bloody ELMSTREET deal?!?!
ReplyDeleteOk...thought i sent this 5 minutes ago. !@!&#^!&#^!&#
#66 parked at lap 34, #87 at lap 48 and #09 probably will park before too long. Don't know about #26, but think they will run full-distance.
ReplyDelete33 lead changes through 60 laps!! wow. How many has Fox missed?
ReplyDelete@ Anon 2:08
ReplyDeleteLet's see. Apparently Digger, Pizzi, and movie hawking are more important than start-and-parks. Does that make FOX look smart? I'd rather rename this network after that failure Jack FM, and change their slogan to "Showing what we want".
This race has had 32 lead changes in just 60 laps. On pace to have t least 100 lead changes.
ReplyDeleteThat shot from the blimp was great.
ReplyDeleteI finally read through all the comments to catch up. thanks for the info about the scanners, JD. I had turned my computer off twice to reboot since I wasn't getting the scanner audio. Is this Turner's way of getting back at Fox? Well don't do it by messing with the fans. I turn the scanner on first, even before the TV because I can't stand to listen to the pre-race drivel.
ReplyDeleteI agree that trackpass has had a lot of problems this year.
Wow, look at that a wide shot of the field. wrong, back to in-car.
There's a big group running in the back to get away from the craziness -- the 24, 13, 29 are going to come together in 4 or 5 laps
If you want to try Twitter, we are live at twitter.com/thedalyplanet
ReplyDeleteLots of NASCAR teams, reporters and even drivers and families on there.
The cam in the dirt seems to be a good shot that Fox likes.
ReplyDeleteThe aerial shot at Dega is awesome. Hope we see more.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by a blog administrator.
ReplyDeleteSophia,
ReplyDelete5 points races, plus the All-Star. I can't wait either.
jd, any technical reason why aerial shots aren't used more?
ReplyDeleteSo a crash on pit road and we don't get to see it.
ReplyDeleteThey mentioned the damage to the 12, why not show it?
ReplyDeleteNever replayed the pit road incident. How weird was that?
ReplyDeleteThat was a mess. Yocum says "you should see the damage on the right side of Keselowski's car"....they show Keselowski's car...but it was the left side of it.
ReplyDeleteenjoying hearing mike joy back on stride today. sure wish fox could have shown us a replay of the mess on pit road that raised mike's voice.
ReplyDeletemaybe after the commercial?
are there a lot more commercials than usual? Or am i imagining it?
ReplyDeleteLove the aerial shot and wide shot. The dirt cam doesn't do much for me.
"You should see the right front damage on the 12 car!"
ReplyDeleteYes, we'd love to.
BUT FOX DOESN'T HAVE A FREAKIN' SHOT OF IT.
ARGH.
red, as the ESPN guys said in an interview last season, they are trying to use shots that translate well in HD.
ReplyDeleteFor the Directors, that seems to be the endless in-car cams.
It's a trend.
What happened to the replay of whatever happened on pit road between Keselowski and ???
ReplyDeleteKESELOWSKI DOESN'T MATTER? A CRASH ON PIT ROAD DOESN'T MATTER?
ReplyDeleteDamn you FOX. Something really has to happen.
Why didn't they show Ambrose and Keselowski getting into one another? Gives them another chance to blame it on Kes! This is disappointing.
ReplyDeleteI was listening to MRN..missed their comment on pit road wreck.
ReplyDeleteWe ever gonna see it FOX? or did I miss it. WTH???????
Think the problem with the #47 was caused by the run in we finally just saw?
ReplyDeletecopy that, jd, thanks.
ReplyDeleteand here's the replay finally.
Whenever TNT ever rechallenges FOX for NASCAR rights, this race should be held as an example of how horrendous their coverage has become.
ReplyDeletefinally showed the pit road deal with Kez and Ambrose
ReplyDeleteBefore the break:
ReplyDelete"Leader: 78 Regan Smith"
EPIC FAIL.
