Truck Series Comments From Dover (8PM - SPEED)
Well, this certainly is not a live blog as the CWTS race from Dover is playing back at 8PM on SPEED. The race ran live at 5PM ET. Normally, the third featured race at a track would be run at night on Friday, but Dover has no lights. Instead, the race is held for TV viewers until later in the evening.
SPEED's CWTS crew is on hand for this event. Rick Allen, Phil Parsons and Michael Waltrip are in the TV booth. Ray Dunlap and Adam Alexander are on pit road. Krista Voda handles the pre-race show.
Trucks at Dover are fun to watch. This series works well on this track and it's nice for the Dover weekend to have three feature races. The flipside is the obvious. No lights make NASCAR run the CWTS race on Friday afternoon and show it on TV later that night. Times have changed and tape-delaying live professional sports is not really the thing to do.
The SPEED presentation of the trucks on TV is well known. No bells and whistles, just cameras following the action and announcers trying to tell the entire story. This scenario has worked quite well for the network and the fans for years.

I just wish that the race was being televised live, and just wish that the other networks would use the same approach to the broadcasts that Speed chooses to do.
ReplyDeleteI've got a comment- Show the race as it happens. Even if I don't know what happened it takes something away to know it's already over.
ReplyDeleteAnd in today's world it's almost impossible to not find out what happened.

ReplyDeleteWish I could comment on hear during the tape delay and know that I won't find out the winner until the tape delayed end but I am not sure you could control that JD or want to.
ReplyDeleteUnfortuately we already know who won and there's a bad storm here in Houston and we have lost our broadcast quite a bit this evening already. Race is getting ready to start so hopefully we'll be able to watch the whole thing without the fade. Looks like empty stands too.
ReplyDeleteGonna watch the last few laps, because they sounded very excited on the LIVE broadcast on Sirius!! Otherwise, been busy elsewhere tonite...:(-would soooo rather watch live.
ReplyDeleteWas going to watch the Trucks....3-3 Stanley Cup Hockey in the 3rd, looks like I will DVR the Trucks & watch the LIVE Hockey Game!
ReplyDeleteI can't believe that Speed's field summary ticker got messed up they've had plenty of time to get it checked out.
ReplyDeleteI have such an eerie sense of deja vu, here.
ReplyDeleteKyBu running out of gas will just haunt a person....
ReplyDeleteI watched it with 88 laps to go and the main thing that stuck with me was the replays. They would show a replay, then another, ok that is cool but then you would see another replay and another. One time doing their replay routine they did it under green and missed a yellow.
ReplyDeleteCamera works was good. Found myself a few times whooing and ahhhing watching the racing and the slides. Haven't done that in a while.
I will not watch it as it has a Waltrip in the booth....just can't stand those 2 idiots. It's a shame too, i like the truck series.....
ReplyDeleteIn this day of the internet, I just don't watch much tape delayed sporting events.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if anyone has mentioned during truck qualifying Speed was interviewing Todd Bodine and Ricky Carmichael was out on the track and Todd snaps his head to the track and says "hold on to it Ricky, don't spin" but he did. It was like Todd doing the play by play of the whole incident! It was great.
ReplyDeleteI was one of the fortunate ones. Traveling, got to destination, set up DVR (in MH). Sat outside and read, went to dinner. Came back, watched Truck race not knowing who won.
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed the race very much. Frustrated with ticker, but in the scheme of things, I'll live with it. Mikey seems calmer.
Trucks are always more exciting than NW & Cup. Length of race? Truck body vs cars? Wish NW & Cup could be as exciting.
