Live Blogging Camping World Trucks In Texas (8:30PM ET SPEED)


This week the Camping World Truck Series stops at the Texas Motor Speedway for a Friday night race on SPEED.

The cast of characters is familiar, but one regular is missing. Adam Alexander is off starting his six race assignment of handling the play-by-play for TNT over in the Sprint Cup Series.

Krista Voda will host the pre-race show and then move to a pit reporter position to work with Ray Dunlap. Up in the booth to call the race will be Rick Allen, Phil Parsons and Michael Waltrip.

The trucks are very fast at Texas and the high speed brings a very new level of danger. This track has incidents that happen very fast and that is the challenge for SPEED's veteran TV crew.

We have used the work of this team as example to FOX of what straightforward racing on TV should look like. The CWTS TV team kicks it old school and has done so very effectively for several years.

As we have often seen with the trucks this season, there should be a quick separation into the "haves" and "have nots" where speed is concerned. Hopefully, the number of "start and park" teams will be limited.

  6. That kid Schrey-deer was pretty spiffy in first practice yesterday ... Dunno what happened to him for happy hour ... Qualified so-so ... Wonder if he'll hold on for the whole race?? LOL ;-)

  10. personally, I love it when they come from behind you (that happened to me at Dover.) You can feel the grandstands shake before they get there but you know they're coming. And you feel them as they fly over. Very cool. You can't get that on TV.

  11. When I was at the Michigan track in Aug. there would be a fly over like that and it was cool. The crowd would then settle down to hear start your engines and then just feet above the press box the Jets would return, go straight up and scare the heck out of you.

  16. I was okay with the Anthem - I enjoyed the harmony. Is this a good time for some one to explain to me how the actual trucks, nationwide cars, and sprint cars get shown on TV. Do they have to pay a fee? I remember when one of the networks(?) "blurred out" the car's sponsor logo if they did not pay a fee. Is something like that still going on?

    Ridiculous! Spend the money and get us live truck series scoring for practice, quals and races.

  27. The flashing yellow lights? Whoopee!
    Now the fans can tell when there is a yellow? WOW!
    Maybe the new lights are not for the fans but for the announcers and TV people. They never get it right.

  41. Speed sometimes mentions race car sponsors. ESPN started the practice of excluding them and hampered the teams chances of getting sponsors interested since their names are no longer mentioned on TV. Fox followed the practice and racing has suffered as a result.
    If Fox, TNT and ESPN would mention sponsors then you would see race teams bounce back, refrain from Start and parks and become more competitive resulting in tighter/better racing. NASCAR should require it.

  45. FOX started the sponsor exclusion practice back in 2001. The controversy over that forced them to have to show all sponsors in their animated cars. ESPN prior to 2001 never excluded sponsors as far as I can remember. Plus at least in their starting lineups they showed you exactly what scheme every driver had which was nice in special schemes since sometimes you can't tell who is driving what when no one mentions it....

    Looks like a good race, caught it late. What happened to Benson?

  46. 20 trucks, one day 2 left for the finish. PLUS-- No fans there, as it's stupid to have these stand alone races. All of the stand alone races are stupid in today's times. Group em and tighten up the schedule geographically.

  47. Running the trucks with IRL does seem to be a questionable decision by NASCAR, however grouping the Trucks and NW schedules a bit more I think could help across the board. Not a big fan of NW/Cup companion since it leads to too much double dipping. Fortunately these types of events are becoming more rare for the Truck boys.

  53. When is this site going to stop praising the Truck series coverage. The coverage is terrible!!!!!!! Rick Allen has no idea whats happening, and Mikey and Phil scream endlessly and never shut up. There were several instances tonite where it showed they hadnt done their research. A lot of info was incorrect, and a lot of on track incidents were missed by the tv crew. Very poor tv coverage as ive come to expect from the truck series team.

  54. Also the first few rows of the frontstretch, and the turns, were closed off. The track will not sell certain parts of the track for IRL races for safety reasons. There was IRL practice and the signature four-lap qualifying that afternoon so IRL seating restrictions were in place.

    The IRL drivers wanted more caution light indications and the idea of using lights such as what was used last night was based on IRL requests for Texas. We'll likely see them too for the AAA Texas 500 since that race (2:15 PM CST green flag) will likely finish at night.

  55. Just got home from Fort Worth after attending the truck race last night. When we were there it was hard finding out what trucks were laps down we could see the scoring pylon in front of us but lapped down traffic isn't noted. I think watching on tv is better. Poor David Starr crashed out with about 5 or 6 laps to go. Hardly anyone at the track but it took us a long time to get out of the parking area. We forgot to record it but have it set for early tomorrow morning.
