SPEED Has Friday Covered From Pocono

Things are underway at noon ET from Pocono and all the Friday action is on SPEED.

The trio of Steve Byrnes, Jeff Hammond and Larry McReynolds are in for a long day. They call practice at noon, qualifying at 3:30PM and then handle Trackside Friday night at 7PM. Bob Dillner and Wendy Venturini are the reporters for the practice and qualifying. Elliott Sadler joins Trackside as a panelist.

Darrell Waltrip is back again on SPEED. This campaign to raise Waltrip's profile on the network is assisted by the fact that his brother, Michael, is out of the country. The senior Waltrip will step in for the truck series and ARCA coverage.

He will be joining Rick Allen and Phil Parsons who will call the truck series practice at 5:30PM in advance of the Saturday race. Ray Dunlap and Adam Alexander are reporting for the trucks while Wendy Venturini and Jim Tretow will handle ARCA.

Sandwiched in between the action on the track will be two editions of NASCAR Live at 1:30 and 3:00PM. This is a good little show to keep fans up to date on the happenings at the track. John Roberts and Randy Pemberton will be on the SPEED Stage with Bob Dillner and Hermie Sadler reporting from the garage area.

ESPN2 has lots of golf coverage on Friday, so there is no NASCAR Now and no other coverage of the sport. The 7:00PM Saturday night coverage of the Nationwide Series race is the next time ESPN comes back to NASCAR.

We will use this post to host your comments on the topics above and the Friday coverage on SPEED. To add your opinion, just click on the comments button below. This is a family-friendly website, please keep that in mind when posting. Thanks for taking the time to stop by.

  1. I'm assuming that the Saturday 9:30 AM practice on Speed is the same crew as Friday?

  2. Speed usually does a good job at all this, but I won't be watching since qualifying will be on while I'm at work and DW will be on Trackside and I figure either they will avoid the topic of the driver fines or be all apologies. Basically I'm just not in the mood for it this week.

Hope my driver does great this weekend. As Chadderbox said in the post about the fines, THAT's the reason I watch NASCAR - to see MY driver race.

  3. Happy Race Weekend Planeteers :)

Look forward to seeing how the new Pick 'em Ups qualifying goes!

    Busy busy busy day :)

  4. Tom Bowles of SI tweeted that Vince Welch was in a car accident last night and will be replaced by Dave Burns in the booth for Iowa. Vince is ok, just taking the weekend off

  5. Thanks for letting us know where DW will be so we can avoid him. Why they think raising DW's profile will increase viewership is beyond me.

  6. Glad Vince is OK!

Guess I misread something...I thought Pick 'em Ups quals were going to be aired? Sucks that they made all this hype about the new format and we don't get to see it :(

  7. Gymmie,

Truck qualifying is LIVE on Speed at 10 a.m./et Saturday morning, after the first S.C. practice airs joined-in-progress once F1 qualifying is over.

I just saw that on the ticker on Speed during NASCAR Live.

  8. Gymmie, I also thought the truck qualifying would be on Speed. How silly of us!!! I haven't seen any updates for Jack wonder how he's doing today and hope Vince is up and around. Nice article about Marty Reid someone tweeted.

Hope Vince is okay. Was he riding with Brad K?

  10. I'm still annoyed by NASCAR, no Cup, NNS or Trucks for me this week. Off to Riverhead tomorrow for the Whelen modifieds. Versus will televise the event at a later date, so comparison will be an interesting experiment.

  11. No Trackside for me and will be fast forwarding through most of the ARCA as I have no desire to hear DW.

Am looking forward to the truck quals tomorrow. Should be neat.

  13. Sorry to hear about vince, glad that he is OK. Hmmm, that gives me a chance to hear Dave in action since I missed most of it the last time he was on.

  14. VickyD, last update I saw was that Jack had some surgery on his face today, but was resting comfortable although they are keeping his condition listed as serious.

  15. I will check out Trackside tonight. I enjoy Sadler on there. In fact, I enjoy both of the Sadler brothers. :)

  16. I'm really impressed with 3 cup drivers in the top spots of the truck practice times. Sadler, Kahne & Hamlin. Bet the regular truck drivers are really happy to see that!!!

  17. I had to DVR qualifying today and I am catching up on that right now. Yes, I actually watch qualifying. My wife thinks I am insane. But I will admit that I fast forward through parts of it too. Am going to DVR trackside and watch it later tonight and see how DW does.

I am looking forward to some racing this weekend. I am going to DVR the truck and Arca races tomorrow. I will watch the Nationwide race live. Sunday I will DVR Sprint Cup race and start watching it on recording about 3:45.

I am watching Nascar this weekend because of the drivers and despite Brian France. If only we could call Brian France into the Big Red Truck and tell him "boy we don't need you."

The guy on the Direct TV commercial they are airing during qualifying sounds like Ricky Bobby's rival in Taledega Night.

  18. Is this Hendrick - Mark Martin story going to get more interesting before it gets resolved!

  19. So I wonder if DW, Larry Mac and Hammond will be willing to say the things they did about the Chase in their Fox video on Trackside?

All of a sudden, these guys who have been "the chase is wonderful" just said they don't like and LO and behold, Larry Mac has discovered (gasp) a lot of fans don't like the chase!

NASCAR will probably fine them for negative comments.

Makes me almost willing to tune in to Trackside tonight. almost.

  20. Chadderbox, it sure does seem so. After all those years of Martin backing down to Jack Roush, it seems he's taking a stand on getting moved out of his ride at HMS.

  21. Sorry for the error on the schedule, just missed it.

CWTS quals are on SPEED Saturday AM and the homepage is now correct.

  22. Vince Welch is fine, Dave Burns will be calling the NNS race from Iowa as several of our readers noted.
