Live Blogging Sprint Cup Series From Bristol, TN (ABC - 7PM ET)
This is going to be a very interesting night in many different ways. The night race from Bristol is on ABC across the nation, but some key ABC local stations have opted to carry preseason NFL football.
Here is the list and the available options for viewers in those markets via ESPN:
The following markets will have alternate viewing options for ABC’s telecast of the NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Bristol tonight (DT2 = Digital Tier 2):
Detroit (WXYZ) – will show 7:30 – 9 p.m. on its DT2 channel then switch to primary channel at 9 p.m. due to coverage of annual Woodward Dream Cruise
Houston (KTRK) – will show entire race on its DT2 channel due to coverage of Houston Texans preseason game.
Richmond, VA (WRIC) – will show entire race on WUPV-TV (CW station in market) due to coverage of Washington Redskins preseason game.
Weslaco, TX (KRGV) – will show entire race on its DT2 channel due to coverage of Dallas Cowboys preseason game.
Madison, WI (WKOW) – will show entire race on its DT2 channel due to coverage of Green bay Packers preseason game.
LaCrosse, WI (WXOW) – will show entire game on its DT2 channel and in-market on CW station due to coverage of Green Bay Packers preseason game.
Wausau, WI (WAOW) -- will show entire game on its DT2 channel and in-market on CW station due to coverage of Green Bay Packers preseason game.
NOTE: Joplin, MO (KODE) and St. Joseph, MO (KQTV) are both showing Kansas City Chiefs preseason games. Neither station has DT2 channel and due to limited alternate clearance options in the markets, race will not air in either market.
The NASCAR Countdown show will be hosted by Nicole Briscoe for thirty minutes at 7PM ET. Briscoe is filling-in for Allen Bestwick, who is attending to some family issues. Our best to Allen and his family.
Ray Evernham, Brad Daugherty and Rusty Wallace will join Briscoe in the Infield Studio. Actually, both the pit studio and Tim Brewer's Tech Garage are located outside of the track this weekend due to the small size of the BMS infield.
Briscoe has filled this role before with no problems, but Bristol offers an entirely new challenge of directing high-speed traffic and offering recaps and highlights during the race. She is in for a long night.
Marty Reid gets his first turn as the play-by-play announcer for this race. He is joined by Dale Jarrett and Andy Petree in the broadcast booth. These three called the Nationwide Series race on Saturday and learned some valuable lessons about sticking to the action on the track. There is no time for other discussions.
The director faces the biggest challenge of continually cutting cameras all night long as the 15 second laps tick off. BMS bit ESPN Saturday night several times when the director tried to use the in-car cameras live. Other action happened in a split second and it was over before the cameras even found it.
Tonight will hopefully feature the aerial shot, the high cameras on top of the race control tower and the low angle "speed shots" that let the cars zoom right by the camera within inches. Bristol can make great TV if you let it.
This post will serve to host your comments about the night race from Bristol on ABC. To add your TV-related opinion, just click on the comments button below. This is a family-friendly website, please keep that in mind when posting. Thanks for taking the time to stop by The Daly Planet.
Just tuned in to Raceday.
ReplyDeleteLooks like it's dry right now!
Before you ask about the driver intro songs:
ReplyDeleteFrom reporter Dustin Long: No, the driver intros with their songs won't be televised. Cost networks ton for rights to air music so U miss out if not here.
OK JD I broke down and created a google account, good to go for tonight, the football game is CBS here and the LL world series game is over!
ReplyDeleteDo the networks have to pay royalties to air the songs or a flat fee?
ReplyDeleteHow does that work? Does anyone know?
Awesome Jeff, thanks!
ReplyDeleteI never heard of most of the songs anyway.
ReplyDeleteKyle's song should be "Hit Me with your Best Shot!"
ReplyDeleteAt least we have the driver's kids singing the anthem tonight...so it should be good!
ReplyDeletejd, just a moment before the race if i may?
ReplyDeletemarc boland, better known as the blog master of Full Throttle, died 10 days ago. For those who are fans of his blog, his passion for motorsports and his candor, his is a voice that will be missed.

From Jayski - Scheduled Green Flag (approx): 7:43pm/et
ReplyDeleteThanks Red, I enjoyed that blog very much.
ReplyDeleteHermie just got a smile out of Brad K. Boring Brad. Now that's funny if you saw last nights race.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if they thought the heat & crowd is too much for Wendy to be doing the intro walk.
ReplyDeleteI tend to like Kenney Wallace when he is out from behind the desk. He has a mic and he is asking questions instead of screaming at fans.
ReplyDeletethat was a good interview w/Dale Jr.
ReplyDeleteKenny had to work Junior pretty hard to get that feedback.
ReplyDeleteI am getting a kick out of these interviews on Raceday! Very Fun!
ReplyDeletewoooooohooooo its Bristol baby soooo looking foward to this! Everyone enjoy this theres nothing like it on the planet!
ReplyDeleteI have been to the night race twice and the march race once. Its like nothing I have ever experienced at a racetrack. Bring your earplugs!
ReplyDeleteRough ending for RaceDay. Interesting closing segment with folks in different positions.
ReplyDeleteI went to the night race without earplugs and couldn't hear for three days.
ReplyDeleteOn my end ...Raceday just cut off...almost in mid sentence. Weird.
ReplyDeleteHave to use sign language on pit road for the TV crew. Lots of pointing going on...
ReplyDeleteA few quick comments on the various pre-emptions tonight, from the perspective of a manager at a local television station.
ReplyDeleteAs was said in the other thread, the preseason games are a gold mine for not only the teams, but the local stations that air them. While a local station receives an average of only a few local spots (commercials) per hour during a network broadcast (the race) they can sell the entirety of a local NFL team's game during the preseason.
That's a lot of money.
While television stations still do very well in the revenue department, expenditures have never been higher. Remember, every broadcast station in the United States was REQUIRED in the past decade by the federal government to upgrade their broadcast equipment from analog to digital. This transition cost our station tens of millions of dollars. In fact, we ended up LOSING money the year of our changeover.
So lets talk about money and ratings:
In our market - a top 50 market in the southeast - a primetime NASCAR race will typically receive a 3 rating or less, and finish in last place across its time slots. From a financial perspective, it makes sense to pre-empt a NASCAR race, in whole or part, to air a football game. Even if the game rates lower than the race, it will make my station more money.
(As an aside, if the race is on a sub-channel in your market, but you can't receive it because the signal is weak...blame the government. The entire digital transition is a disaster. In some markets, the station with the most powerful signal by wattage is also the hardest to pick up over rabbit ears. True story.)
Ultimately, the NFL is here to stay. NASCAR as well, but it is more of a niche sport. There's a reason why it is on cable and not broadcast. That reason is ratings and money.
I love NASCAR, and wish it nothing but the best. But the economics of the situation is that these station can afford to pre-empt the race, and in some cases, may not be able to afford not to.
It's dangerous without earplugs.
ReplyDeleteso if you are on of the unlucky who can't get Bristol because of the preseason football--go over to Justin TV...we plugged our computer into our tv with the hdmi(i think that's what it's called) and now we can watch...
ReplyDeleteWell, we know the storyline!
ReplyDeleteHi Planeteers,
ReplyDeleteGoing to be keeping an eye on my Steelers on my computer using NFL.com and watch the race on TV, with the sound off. Should be interesting.
DP right, this is the Sprint Cup Series, not Nationwdie.... why is this the opening theme?
ReplyDeleteJD, looks like all the nascar online apps are hosed, can you get some answers from turner folks? bad race to be having tech difficulties!
ReplyDeleteRaceview, trackpass all load a red flag graphic saying:

HAha, way to go DJ!
ReplyDeleteThey are really playing up last night. Can't blame them.
ReplyDeleteMaybe we will see a scuffle in the pits after the race!
I guess the focus is the BK-KB fued, glad the Chase isn't overwhelming everything. And I didn't know it was OK for national TV to air "I'm gonna beat his ass" soundbite. That's gotta keep non-fans tuned in.
ReplyDeleteI never needed earplugs at Bristol...sounded too cool without them. Could have used them at Martinsville though. Sitting under the upper deck stands the sound really echoed.
ReplyDeleteChecking with NASCAR.com right now. There is still 15 min before guys even get in the cars.
ReplyDeleteWill get back to ya.
My parents live in LaCrosse. Some night to have our local affiliate upstage NASCAR over football. Their CW isn't in HD either. I don't know why ABC would let their local affiliates get away with changing the station of one of the biggest races of the year.
ReplyDeleteWhat does everyone think of how Dale Jr ran last night w Eury SR POPS on the box? I know he was lap down at one point but man did he come back for a great finish.... I think Eury SR is the answer to Dale Jr's BIG time slump!!! I still always wonder why they messed that team up in 2005
ReplyDeleteI dont think we will ever see it again in the Cup Series
Sally true that! I will never take ear plugs to a Nascar race! That would be like taking ear plugs to a concert???? LOL
ReplyDeleteI actually got Pit Command to load but went about so convoluted I don't even remember how I got there was getting the red flag stuff before that
ReplyDeleteThis is going to be interesting DJ is punching people in the nose in the motor home lot and Brad K call Kyle an A@@ during driver intros.
Dave 7:12 -
ReplyDeleteABC really doesn't have a say in the matter.
Stations can preempt network programming when the licensee thinks there is some other programming which is of greater national or local importance.
The station would argue the local or nearby football team's game is of more importance than 1 of 36 NASCAR races.
As long as they don't do it often, the network can't win that argument with the affiliate. And, there aren't many stations floating around without affiliation, so it's not like ABC is going to go elsewhere.
The noise wasn't so bad at Bristol until they put the stands completely around the track and raised them. I went to a couple of truck and Busch (at the time) races before they added the seats and the noise wasn't so bad. Maybe it was where I was seated at the night race.
ReplyDeleteOK guys, told the NASCAR.com stuff should be working. You may have to restart!
ReplyDeleteonly network stations that cannot pre-empt programming are network owned stations and they can do it for local news and weather and such.
ReplyDeleteO&O are NY, LA, Chicago, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Toledo, Flint, Fresno, Houston and Raleigh Durham - last one interesting to NASCAR.
This comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeletestill no change with the nascar.com stuff here, did a full system restart, still getting red-flagged :(
ReplyDeleteGuess this is a good time to live in Flint!?
ReplyDeleteESPN/ABC just spent the first 20 minutes talking about drivers wrecking/fighting other drivers. The excitement in the booth was building. It ended with near nirvana at the thought of more wrecks and fistfights tonight. I suppose that's the theme for tonight.
ReplyDeleteWhy did ABC silence BK saying a$$ during driver intros, but didn't silence him saying a$$ in a soundbite from last night earlier in the broadcast?
ReplyDeleteNow that was funny with BK and Shrub.
ReplyDeleteOK. Can someone explain to me why people stand up for Lee Greenwood? I'm sorry, but the only song I stand for is the National Anthem. To do differently seems to cheapen doing it for the antherm. Am I wrong?
ReplyDeleteDid Brad K come out to "Respect" from Aretha? Oh man!
ReplyDeleteCarl made a cute baby. Too bad for the little one that her dad is a jerk. The Nascar kiddies are really adorable. Who's Jeff Byrd????
ReplyDeleteWatching on Justin.tv (Woodward Dream Cruise)
ReplyDeleteYeah, JD, and Shrub should have come out to Baby I Need Your Lovin
ReplyDeleteJeff Byrd is the president of Bristol. Fighting cancer.
ReplyDeleteI know she's pinch hitting but Nicole needs math lessons 500 miles at Bristol would be about 1000 laps! lol
ReplyDeleteGood anthem by the kiddoes! Just got home from our whirlwind dinner for my birthday celebration.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by a blog administrator.
ReplyDeletePlease tell me the lady wasn't looking at her phone for the words to the Pledge of Allegence..
ReplyDelete@VickyD...we can celebrate our birthdays toghether tonight! Happy Birthday!
ReplyDeleteI'll take the kids any day over what we have had to endure in recent weeks.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Sally
ReplyDeleteSally a good friend of mine, may he Rest in Peace, a Vietnam Vet, would stand a place his hand over his heart every time that was played on the jukebox at the local VFW, said that should be our new National Anthem, hard to argue with him.
ReplyDeleteWOuld it have killed the directors to keep the camera on ALL the kids for the Anthem?
We get to sit thru this intro twice? They have nothing better to do? No info?
ReplyDeletesally and darcie: happiest of all birthdays to each of you!
ReplyDeletemy favorite anthem of the year!
ReplyDeleteIs anyone else having trouble with pit command?
Thanks Red! Hope the boys put on a 'good show' for our birthdays!
ReplyDeleteSally, my birthday was Friday the 13th but we never got out to dinner last weekend so hubby took me out, unhappily!
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by a blog administrator.
ReplyDeleteSally & Darcie - Happy Birthday! Hope your drivers have a good race!
ReplyDeleteLooks like a good crowd. I haven't seen any empty seats
ReplyDeleteAre the NASCAR.com things back and working yet? Some thrashing going on at BMS.
ReplyDeleteIs this NASCAR or the WWE because ESPN is promoting fighting!
ReplyDeleteEvery time I read about a track adding 'enhancements' like fan zones and other stuff to attract fans, I look at Bristol. No big citiy near it, no casino, just a little bull ring in the mountains that has (had) great races. Seems to me the best way to get fans to come is to have great racing. All the casinos and fans zones in the world won't change that.
ReplyDeleteYES! I am on Junior's DIRECTV HOTPASS Channel and I hear PRN!
ReplyDeleteAnon, go sign up for Google and get a nick so we know who you are and what comments you are making.
ReplyDeleteNever mind, it just came up. I got an error twice. Someone must have woken up at TNT and flipped the switch
ReplyDeletePRN on Hot Pass? Really? Wow.
ReplyDeleteThey didn't sell out but it looks like they came close. On the news last night, they were talking to some people reselling tickets outside. They were selling them at below face value rather than at a premium like it was done in the past. The seller said he bought them "right" and might make money on them but somebody had lost money.
ReplyDeleteThis is my first race actually AT Bristol. Thru a combination of wheedling and honest graft with friends who have access to skyboxes I got to be here. And I have been to that really neat outdoor bar. I am there now. The view is simply awesome and they have just started engines. So, I suggest ESPN add a "Bristol outdoor bar-view cam". I have not seen the race from here yet, but if there is a better view in NASCAR so far I cannot imagine where it must be.
ReplyDeleteY'all enjoy the race!
Clarke
As of last night, they said there were still 'good seats available' for the race tonight.
ReplyDeletejust gonna say that - Hot Pass is using PRN - interesting?
ReplyDelete@Sally you are right. Fontana made a TON of upgrades to their fan zone, even added escalators to get to the stands, still didn't help with attendance.
ReplyDeleteClarke, take some pics for our Facebook fan page. Search "The Daly Planet" and you can post them directly.
ReplyDeleteJeff, your friend was probably right, but I don't think it will ever happen. And til it does, I only stand for the one. At Richmond people were standing for God Bless America, and I do think it lessens the real anthem.
ReplyDeleteBTW, the flag code (so far as I know) still says only men have to take off their hats. I'm guessing that harkens to the days when women were using hatpins and that would have been quite a task. But I don't really know.
nascar.com stuff still not working :(
ReplyDeletehappy birthday, ladies! Hope all your wishes come true
ReplyDeleteMan, the NASCAR.com guys are going nuts. Love the online world!
ReplyDeleteI did get the trackpass stuff to come up but I had to try a couple of times. I thought I was going to have to open each app separately
ReplyDeleteS&P Predictions:
ReplyDelete#55 McDowell
#64 Bodine
#66 Riggs
#71 Cassill
I'm so disappointed. Shrub passed Brad with no contact. :-(
ReplyDeletegood evening all, just curious is anyone having issues with the pitcommand program on nascar.com? I am trying to load it to follow the race but it keeps giving me errors.
ReplyDeleteOK, scanner working fine?
ReplyDeleteof course we get to see Jr in the back? Are they afraid he's going to get lapped?
ReplyDeleteBranden, most had to restart and delete cookies to make them work.
ReplyDeleteRobby Gordon S&P?
ReplyDeleteKevin Conway is still in the way as usual. It would not suprise me to see Conway spun against the wall at somepoint tonight.
ReplyDeleteyes, I can hear the scanner on pitcommand now. but I opened live leaderboard and the scanner separately first and closed them when pitcommand finally worked.
ReplyDeleteCarl maybe tight but not as tight as some of these camera shots
ReplyDeleteEvening, all.
ReplyDeleteraceview finally working, looks like a 90+ perswon queue for nascar.com online live chat help
ReplyDelete55 McDowell S&P
ReplyDeleteyup that's what I'm understanding he's running the 07 as a S&P and then putting someone else in the 7 guessing based on sponsorship funding :(
ReplyDeleteYou knew the bumper cams would be busy tonight
ReplyDeleteconway is in the 7 and in the way
ReplyDeleteNASCAR just dropped me a line and said the NASCAR.com problems are fixed and users may need to restart to clear out the problem.
ReplyDeleteGymmie - Exactly. Robby can qualify the #07 on time. Kevin Conway foots the bills.
ReplyDeleteI got Trackpass to work. Finally. Clear the cache &cookies & history & anything else. Restart. I used the link on the right side of the main page, not the bar link on top & it worked.
ReplyDeleteGood luck.
Happy Birthday to you both!
Ads?Already? Really?
ReplyDeletethanks, JD. that what a real mess that was
ReplyDeleteOK. Is it just me...the coveerage already has my head spinning. Can't decide what they are trying to keep track of. jumping all over the place without context.
ReplyDeleteVince completely missed McMurray overshooting his box.
ReplyDeleteSally, that segment was horrible. Few wideshots and jumping between battles as if we can somehow see another view of the race. Grrr...
ReplyDeleteok, i'm seriously finished with hearing about everyone and their teammate being "on the bubble" of the chase. can we not just watch the bristol race please without all the chase foo-fah?
ReplyDeleteSorry, it's not my birthday. I think it's Vicky and Sally. I don't birthday until October. But thanks anyway !!!!
ReplyDeleteRed, I just had to mute it. with that and the jumpy cameras it just aggravates me.
ReplyDeleteThe Tv crew is acting like they don't know what to do.
ReplyDeleteGood thing the hypothesized points are blocking the cars on the racetrack.
ReplyDeleteCharlie, that is a great comment and sums it up perfectly for me.
ReplyDeletebuschseries61 - LOL
ReplyDeleteI'm already sick of the chase oints thing. Why is it so hard to let some of the race actually happen before predicting what they think might happen? I just want to SEE THE RACE!!!!!
ReplyDeleteand the baseball popups. yep I needed to have that with whatever in car camera shot that is. what does that prove?
ReplyDeleteOh, there's a useful shot coming back from break...an anonymous bumper cam shot with no way of telling what is going on. WIDE SHOTS PLEASE.
ReplyDeleteMissed about 12 laps during that commercial break
ReplyDeleteHow about a list of who is a lap down or more?
ReplyDeleteWho has S&P already?
ReplyDeleteThe production truck just jumps from battle to battle all over the track. No clue where anyone is...no ticker doesn't help.
ReplyDeleteGreat. Back to commercial without giving us the info to have a clue as to what is going on in the race. Junmping from battle to battle without some set up just doesn't work!
ReplyDeletethis is NOT good coverage by BSPN. And some wonder why we call them that...:(
ReplyDeletesarcasm on
ReplyDeleteMore commercials please. Thats what I tuned in for, not wide shots of the Bristol night race.
sarcasm off
Crawler should have lap down cars either listed, or in a different color...something to help us figure out what is happening. This is NOT good.
ReplyDeleteAre there more commercials on ABC than on ESPN? Sure seems like it.
ReplyDeleteIt is truly impossible to keep up with what is going. At least we didn't come back to a yellow flag yet.
ReplyDeleteTracy -
ReplyDeleteParked so far:
#55 McDowell
#66 Riggs
#07 Gordon
#64 Bodine
i have some sympathy for not being able to keep the ticker current. with 17 second laps, it just changes so freaking fast that we'd be complaining that the thing is jumping so much it's useless.
ReplyDeletei keep a leaderboard loaded for lap times and lap down, etc. other than that, it's just a crap shoot.
Muted the TV cRusty is too much
ReplyDeleteBuschseries, thanks!
ReplyDeleteso does anybody know why direct tv hotpass has prn for audio instead of the tv broadcast?
ReplyDeleteHas the Men in Black captured the BSPN folks? It seems one week they're spot on the next week it's like the MIB has cleared out their memories and they have no clue how to do a broadcast. Next week back to spot on...wash, rinse, repeat
ReplyDeleteJojaye, Rusty is all I I I me me me. Get so tired of that!
ReplyDeleteRusty's observations:
ReplyDelete- It is now dark in Bristol
- His attitude changes
- "I" "I" "I"
- Tempers get worse, handling chages somehow.
For a NASCAR champion, I would really expect something more in depth.
@NASCAR_HOTPASS: Glad to hear you all are enjoying PRN audio. We will have PRN audio for all ABC races for rest of 2010 season.
ReplyDeleteWow.
think they meant PRN ot MRN radio audio
ReplyDelete@chris- HotPass did same thing last year when ABC/ESPN took over
ReplyDelete@ Gymmie Thank you - finally someone figured out what happened to these guys.
ReplyDelete@Vicky - so true - its all about him.
How the hell do they miss the damage to the 14 on such a short track? Who the heck is doing the camera work? This sucks
ReplyDeleteIs Tim Brewer really necessary right now?
ReplyDeleteJust because of those tight shots, they missed everything happening on the track right then.
ReplyDeleteI'm jealous of Tim Brewers nails!!!
ReplyDeleteI need a new manicurist, I need those tips!
Did Tim Brewer just say if you hit a wall your car will be damaged?
ReplyDeleteESPN's digital image signal quality of tonights broadcast is excellent. Seems especially clear, unusually so even. Good work. Good pictures.
ReplyDeleteThey have managed to miss almost all the problems on the track so far. Not a good omen.
ReplyDeleteRusty sings the same song as DW - it's all about ME
ReplyDeletesooo, the set-up for brewer was "the tools needed on oit road" and the segment was how the spoiler is needed for this track and how scraping the wall brings the spoiler close to the wall. . .
ReplyDeletedisconnect.
Did they ever show what happened to Tony Stewert ? (My head is spinning)
ReplyDeleteLVI56: Yep, that was the theme of his segment. Cars hit the wall and the spoiler can get damaged. NASCAR 101
ReplyDeleteLV - I was dazzled by TB's new manicure I didn't listen what he was sayin'!
ReplyDeleteThe guys see someone hit the wall and it is like it is on time delay to the director and then he says go to camera that shows the car, oh, to late.
ReplyDeletehey, ummm no I'm not enjoying the prn coverage on Hotpass!! It's terrible, doesn't follow what they are showing on the broadcast and goes completely silent for long periods of time. My husband is about to have a coronary!!!
ReplyDeleteYeah, Mike they did. About 10 minutes after it happened. They first said Tony was hit by Edwards, but that wasn't the case at all. These guys are totally stupid
ReplyDeleteAll they need to do is pull a camera back, Bristol can be shown in one high wide shot if they would just DO it.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like it might be a good race, if we could see the action
I may have to watch Being Human at 9. This is schizo coverage.
ReplyDeleteOk thanks Darcie I'm feeling light headed (Why don't they pull back the camera's?) This is like a rubic cube
ReplyDeleteMan, this is bad.
ReplyDelete@JD-
ReplyDeleteWhat I don't get is this. Every other televised sport is pretty consistent week to week as far as direction/technical aspects go. Complaints of viewers centers around announcers or maybe the occasional missed replay. You don't all of a sudden use a camera down the third base line for the main play by play camera or a camera on the bench in ice hockey for primary coverage as an example.
Why is this basic concept lost when it comes to NASCAR?
Junior is coming forward for a change! Hope I didn't just jinx him.
ReplyDeleteI was loving the wide shot, then the camera zoomed in and Marty Reid brought up points.
ReplyDeleteIs Brewer ever neccessart?
ReplyDeleteTonight's coverage reminds me of the last time I was there. I think I missed every wreck in the race. It is so fast with action all around the track, you don't know where to look and I was looking at the wrong place every time.
ReplyDeleteWatching this crappy coverage is more painful than what my dental surgery will be on Monday, and that won't be fun at all.
ReplyDeleteI don't know how much more of this I'm going to watch.
ReplyDeleteS&P Updates:
ReplyDelete#13 Mears
#71 Cassill
join 55, 66, 64, 07
wow, that was close with montoya
ReplyDeleteMarty Reid and DJ have good chemistry -IMHO. They seem to be on the same page tonight.
ReplyDeleteI still have a problem with too many talking heads coming at me.
With 15 second lap times, it's beyond reason to expect the TV coverage to be complete in every respect. Looks like a decent race so far. Still have a long way to go. Race on.
ReplyDeleteAs the camera is on the #24, hye tell us , 'There is your leader, JJ in the 48...at the top of your screen.' Pathetic.
ReplyDeleteUsed to be that 2 guys called a race if I remember right.
ReplyDeleteI'm really surprised Bobby Labonte is in a S&P. Isn't that why he left his ride earlier this year?
ReplyDeleteJeff -- LOL, I certainly don't think Brewer adds a thing to the broadcast.
ReplyDeleteDarcie -- oooh, dental surgery - sorry to hear it, I hope it goes well
Same crew did the NNS race last night and it was very different.
ReplyDeleteAll they have to do is zoom out. That's all they have to do.
In the 80's I mean.
ReplyDeleteThis is way to painful to watch all night. NFL game I want to see is gonna be on in a few - I'll be switching back & forth. Any idiot ( self included) could do a much better job with this "race coverage" wide shots guys. Forget points, just follow the dang race on the track as it happens.
ReplyDeleteOnly missed 8 laps for that break
ReplyDeleteIn that last break there were four commercials and we lost 11 laps. Please, not Shrub or JJ
ReplyDelete@JoJaye--I absolutely don't get it. Many of the button pushers have worked for other networks doing NASCAR I'm sure a few of them worked back when BSPN had it in the 80s/90s. But they keep acting like they've never done this before and have no idea how to do it. Then the next week they figure it out and then back to them being clueless :(. I watch to relax not get frustrated :(
ReplyDeleteTracy - I think Bobby will drive anything for the remainder of the season to keep his consecutive start streak alive.
ReplyDeleteWhy, when they come back from break, do they have to do that little Jimmie show. Why not just come back from commercials and show the freakin race !!!!!
ReplyDeleteNice pictures of Kyle's pass on JJ to take the lead on lap 170 something.
ReplyDelete@Gymmie - no kidding. Its hard to believe these are the same ones who did last nights race.
ReplyDeleteThanks Gina. Two extractions under sedation. Thank God for sleeping pills.
ReplyDeleteI think they have taken 2 cameras off track coverage & put them on Kyle B & Brad K. And they other guy & the helicopter have to work overtime.
ReplyDeleteJust got that sinking feeling I had last year at this time. That's not good.
ReplyDeleteHave they mentioned Truex in 5th place? Oh...he's not a 'chaser', so it doesn't matter, right?
ReplyDeleteBobby Labonte had fuel pump problems and went to the garage then they decided to change the Ignition Panel.
ReplyDeleteWow, that was horrible.
ReplyDeleteThey changed the fuel pump first on Bobby Labonte's car.
ReplyDeleteHey hey back just in time for a yellow
ReplyDeleteI am using Nascar.com Live Leaderboard - otherwise I would be sitting here with a blank look on my face as I stare at the tv.
ReplyDeleteReally, I am just stunned. It's literally impossible to tell what is going on.
ReplyDeleteOne guy on Twitter compared it to ESPN making a music video. No clue that it's a live sports event.
I swear if I wasn't on twitter, I wouldn't know half of what was going on in the races. That's a sad commentary, imo.
ReplyDelete
