Happy Thanksgiving For The Fourth Time!

It was 2007 when we set out simply to write a little bit about the new NASCAR TV contract. There were lots of interesting TV players and a ton of money had been spent for a sport on the upswing.

Now, four years later here we are. Plenty of new friends who have made this place very special and helped to grow it beyond my wildest dreams. Good or bad, happy or sad it's very clear NASCAR fans love to talk about the way the sport is presented to them on TV.

The racing season is over and the TV shows are winding down. It's a great time to take stock of how NASCAR has been handed down from one generation to the next.

As we take this day to look around at our lives, families and traditions it should be interesting to see how many conversations come around to topics like Johnson winning five, Hendrick swapping crew chiefs and what the heck is the matter with Junior. It's more than a sport. It's a part of who we are as Americans.

Have a great Thanksgiving holiday. Thanks for taking some time out of your life to stop by and share your NASCAR opinions with us over the last four years.

  6. I am thankful for TDP, an island of sanity, honesty, and civil discussion. If it weren't for TDP, I would think I was the one that was crazy when it came to NASCAR and the media.

  8. The Daly Planet is something I am thankful for today. Rather than sitting in front of the TV alone or with a friend or two, we watch the races as a group of friends.

Over the years, I think our complaints and observation about the TV coverage have changed coverage in minor ways. It might have even changed the racing a little (debris cautions, etc.?)

  9. I too, appreciate all the hard work that has gone into this excellent site. My wife and dog benefit from TDP too,but don't know it. I'd have to take out my Nascar frustrations on them if I couldn't vent on TDP. Happy Thanksgiving!

  17. Thanksgiving always makes me smile. Especially after I see the Turkey in the Macy's parade. Then when I see Santa it is time to go to the attic...

Thanks JD for this site, and to all who gather here. You all made my race expeience much better this past season.

And a special thank you to GinaV24. I DID listen to WMMR, Philly this morning to "Alice's Restaurant"!
Pierre will run it again this afternoon at 1 or 2 ET if anyone else wants to hear it! It had been a very long time since I last heard it!

  18. and i add my "happy thanksgiving" to all planeteers and race fans. TDP has been my way to remain connected with our sport without turning away in disgust. knowing that i'm in a community of folks who love our sport as i do and aren't shy about expressing opinions makes a significant difference to me -- and may have made a minor difference on our sport. as a planeteer, that reality makes me proud.

been a tough 6 months for me personally and while i haven't been commenting, i have been lurking with the best of them. TDP not only connected me with the racing when i just didn't have it in me physically to watch but connected me with others so i wasn't feeling isolated.

JD, i know it's been a rocky year, perhaps tougher than the previous 3 for you here. but you now know how very important what you've created here at TDP is to us and how much we appreciate your committment and energy

but now? family, friends, and football are the order of the day. and it's snowing here outside philly! some days just cannot get better!

    happy thanksgiving, gang!

  19. Happy thanksgiving everybody! And, as I always say at this time of year, make sure to watch out for any helicopters around your house in case they start dropping turkeys. XD

  20. Thank you to all the hard working men and women that work for all of the TV partners. I may not always like your presentation, but at least it's better than not getting to see it at all. I am old enough to remember glimpses of racing on Wide World of Sports and CBS.

Happy Holidays to all of TDP and those we right about.

  24. Thanks JD for the site. Happy Thanksgiving to all. I'm thankful that some family members have improving health and pray that the trend stays that way. I gave up on Indy cars after the Helio win take away. That only left me with NASCAR. Somehow I feel short changed by the cup repeat championships by JJ, but they played on the same tracks as everyone else. I regret that the busch whackers steal the prize money from the guys and gals that need the dollars and seat time, but so far it's kind of a free country. Maybe, I'm thankful that I don't have all the answers! Maybe JD will continue to run this blog and help us to achieve improve race coverage next year. Rambled around, but find reading this blog helps my sanity. Thanks!

  27. The leftovers are in the ice box, the dishes washed and put away, and where do I go to relax but here! Many thanks to all of you for being so sane and enthusiastic when things are going right on the TV screen, and hitting the proverbial nail on the head when they aren't. JD, many many thanks for establishing and monitoring this venue. It's a ton of work, I know, and it's greatly appreciated.

  31. AR, I was thinking about you Thanksgiving morning when Pierre was playing Alice's Restaurant. I'm so glad you were able to hear it online.

    Tradition!

Red, that snow was quite a sight. I was sure glad it was only "pretty".
