Live Blogging Nationwide Series From Homestead (4PM ET - ESPN2)

It's been a very long year for the Nationwide Series. While young drivers have come and gone, it's been a show that primarily featured Sprint Cup Series drivers dominating the races. NASCAR says that is about to change.

Homestead will be the final race for the current NNS cars. All of them head off to ARCA and other series after this event. The new NNS cars will run the full season in 2011 and that is a very positive change.

ESPN2 will start with NASCAR Countdown. Allen Bestwick has a full house with Rusty Wallace, Brad Daugherty and Ray Evernham. Wallace has just announced a new driver and sponsor for his NNS team next season. Evernham made news today by confirming he has no deal in place with ESPN for 2011 and is evaluating his options.

Although the series championship has been clinched by Brad Keselowski, pictured above, there are lots of storyline for the pre-race show to discuss. From Danica Patrick finishing her first season to potential paybacks in this race, there is no shortage of topics on the table.

Marty Reid, Dale Jarrett and Andy Petree call the race. Tim Brewer is in the Tech Garage. On pit road are Dr. Jerry Punch, Jamie Little, Vince Welch and Dave Burns. This is the same team that has been prepping for the big Sprint Cup Series telecast on Sunday. Today's event should show just how much energy was focused on the Nationwide Series this weekend.

Homestead is a wide track with great camera angles. The aerial shot is great, the low angle speed shots work well to relay the speed and it's easy to do good TV. The ESPN director has been working in a format dominated by tight shots and in-car cameras for the entire season. The results have been lower ratings, bad reviews and no fans.

Despite TDP encouraging change in these tough times, ESPN has simply stuck with the same formula. Same announcers, same pictures and same results. Hopefully, Homestead will provide some good racing and encourage the TV team to back out and finally show the fans at home what is going on in the field.

Thanks for taking the time to stop by for this final NNS race of 2011!

This race is a prime example of the demise of the Nationwide Series.

All Cup drivers, all the time.

Ohhhh boy, DANICA FINISHES 19th !

Counting every race Kyle has ever won is part of building him up as 'The Greatest Driver To EVER Race in Nascar'! And he's one of 'Holy Joe's' drivers.

I'm dreading the race tomorrow. Hearing about only 3 cars all race long is going to make it a v-e-r-y long afternoon. Talk about making me glad that the season will be over! I used to dread the last race of the year. No more.

They do know Kyle cannot win the championship tomorrow, right?

I still will never understand why they sit there and just show cars who didn't win crossing the finish line instead of showing the celebration of the winning driver and team.

Bad decision, ESPN.

Yeah, maybe thanking Brad Coleman would actually mean something if Joe Gibbs would actually allow him to race more than 6 races a season.

Not only that, now Brian Scott has a full time ride in the Nationwide Series with Gibbs and Brad Coleman still doesn't get one? What's up with that?

Sally, same issue as last season.

How do you cover a playoff for all the marbles inside a race with 43 cars?

Answer is ignore the race!

Now when they go to Joe Gibbs I immediately mute the sound because I don't want to listen to a sermon. So if he said anything about drivers or sponsors it didn't reach my ears.

Why cant they broadcast a race like this every week??? C+ solid broadcast but could be better great camera shots.... Again why cant they do this every week Marty seemed like he was let loose from the ESPN BS so yeah tomorrow will be interesting! Good interview w Danica the end part was great

I like that Coleman kid, he is very TV friendly.

Sally said...

Nah, they didn't watch the race...too many other football games to watch. They can phone it in when they know that the Cup regulars wil finish up front, and it's safe to claim Kyle as the Greatest Ever...unless he pouts for not winning.

Coleman, DiBenedetto, Gresham, Moffit, - JGR has em all signed up but no rides.

Brian Scott brought money to the team - that is why Gibbs signed him.

How many times in 3 hours did Marty mention owners championship and rookie of the year? My goodness, let it go please go back to drag racing.

Could they give Danica more praise? 19th after several races this year in good equipment. Congrats lets not make a big deal about 19th.

It will be a real dilemma for ESPN if Kyle is leading most of the race tomorrow...they will slobber over him while having to cover the chasers non stop. Tough.

So let me get this straight: ESPN cuts off their NNS series race coverage for they can go to a Cup special SportsCenter. Horrendous.. I'm speechless.

I am definitely not watching any pre race tomorrow. I cannot bear to hear on more interview with Denny or JJ! SHUT UP AND DRIVE!

Jonathan said...

I was impressed w her today shes getting better! she needs to leave IRL and go full time Nascar and do the Truck Series if she wants to even think of steping in Cup

Sally said...

Sorry. I guess this is getting to me n=more than I thought!

That post race interview with Danica was just weird. Most interviews with Danica are weird. She finally finished a race in the top 20....with a Top 5 car. Supposedly made $12 Million last year.

See everyone tomorrow. I hope I can survive it!

Thank goodness we saw Brad get the trophy.

Anyone else watching the Sportscenter edition with the auto-tuned version of "Boys Have it" season?

I think it's hilarious! Very nice job by the ESPN crew...

Mr Editor -
Funny thing earlier today ...I dozed off with DW chattering away and when I woke he sounded excited and his hair had turned red ...oh wait, was that RW ...getting tough to separate DW,MW and RW ...very obvious difference to see driver-reporter interaction vis-a-vis SPEED team-ESPN team ...enough already seeing much less hearing from Behind France ...guess there will be 39 start-and-parks tomorrow?
