Live Blogging Sprint Cup Series From Daytona (12PM - FOX)
The NASCAR on FOX team comes out of the gate in 2011 trying to get different results from exactly the same personalities in front of and behind the cameras. It's going to be a tall task to get the momentum flowing in the right direction where NASCAR fans and TV are concerned.
As you can tell from the picture above, the theme of this one is going to be Dale Earnhardt Jr. trying to win the race on the 10th anniversary of his father's passing. Fans will once again hold up three fingers on lap 3 of the race. Keep an eye on how FOX handles this topic during the event.
Chris Myers is back in the Hollywood Hotel and it should be interesting to see if he continues the same act of being Mr. Confused. In fact, Myers is now in his second season of hosting Inside NASCAR on Showtime. Myers has a long history in TV as an informed and sophisticated on-air professional.
Darrell Waltrip and Jeff Hammond join Myers for the pre-race show. Hammond has been outstanding this season with focused TV comments and an informed presence. Waltrip has been overused by SPEED and the result has been a tired guy who is talking too much. A well-rested Waltrip is going to be needed for this race that promises to have a very different dynamic.
Mike Joy and Larry McReynolds join Waltrip in the booth for the race. This mix has been effective for many years, but Waltrip's non-stop chatter last year at this event set the tone for what was to be a rough season. If the producer allows Joy to take charge and direct traffic, things should be fine.
Steve Byrnes, Krista Voda, Matt Yocum and Dick Berggren are the top of the heap in terms of pit road reporters. A diverse group of professionals with other interests and TV projects, FOX has failed to effectively use their talents for several seasons. Hopefully, a new focus on information will allow them more air time.
There is no RaceBuddy for the FOX races this season. That means during TV commercials fans have nowhere to continue watching the race. NASCAR.com has a live leaderboard but no free scanners. Basically, FOX and the radio are the only two information sources for the event.
FOX has not embraced social media and there is no focused location for tweets or Facebook conversation with fans during the telecast. Darrell Waltrip has an active Twitter account, so it should be interesting to see if he will be interacting with fans from the TV booth during the race.
The network has FLIR technology, new in-car camera angles and a race where two cars can pull away from the pack. It's an interesting combination of elements where making TV is concerned. FOX has a long history of overusing in-car angles, trying to build drama and focusing on the winner instead of all the finishers.
There are four years left in the current TV contract. In reality, FOX may well have only four more cracks at covering the Daytona 500. After last season's pothole issues and the erosion of TV viewers, the pressure is on to deliver a memorable and informative telecast.
We will use this post to host your comments on the TV coverage of the Daytona 500 on FOX. To add your opinion, just click on the comments button below. This is a family-friendly website, please keep that in mind when posting. Thank you for taking the time to stop by The Daly Planet for the fifth season.
A well rested DW talks too much. If Fox wanted to improve the broadcast, they'd keep him, Larry Mac, Myers, and Hammond quiet and let Mike Joy do most of the talking.
ReplyDeleteThanks goodness for good ole broadcast. I have some "rabbit ears" hung out the door and wired into my 54 inch TV. The picture is incredible.
ReplyDeleteSome people do not realize you can do this. I had a younger friend over the other night and she never figured it out. LOL
I wish all the races were on Fox.
Then everyone could watch.
JD, and Planeteers. Let go Daytona racing. Yea!!!!!
racing fool I agree! Well everyone its just about time..... Just about time for the biggest event of the year DAYTONA! YESSSSSS Have fun
ReplyDeleteFrom what I've seen so far this week, I'm not optimistic about the booth for today's race.
ReplyDeleteWould love to see Mike Joy just once tell DW to "stick a sock in it." It would be worth getting fired for.
Beautiful weather, good crowd! Nice start.
ReplyDeleteThis set is just for pre-race. Part of new attempt to get fans in the mix.
ReplyDeleteWas it me or were they booing the chuckleheads on-stage at the start there? lol
ReplyDeleteSome nice energy coming off of Chris Myers. I am liking it.
ReplyDeleteWOW what an opening. Love this they need to do an outdoor pre race every weel. You can feel the energy and excitement. Man I hope it lasts.
ReplyDeleteThat is the alternate version of Chris Myers. No longer playing the fool.
ReplyDeleteWhat a freaking difference.
Sure hope we don't see the Noah's Ark 500 today - everyone running 2x2 like the truck and nationwide races. Boring boring boring racing except for the last couple laps
ReplyDeleteWell, it will absolutely be team play because of the new pavement. The difference is that 43 cars have never tried it.
ReplyDeleteNo kidding JD. I am loving this. I am actually looking forward to the rest of the prerace show. Usually I dread prerace shows because they lack excitement, but this has a fantastic energy level. I am really enjoying this.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to the race. Am trying to use my iPad to listen to the track pass scanners on NASCAR.com. The page loads and can select the officials but don't think anything is being broadcasted. Has anyone been able to use an iPad on. Lol on the TMZ
ReplyDelete4 more years! When Fox first came on in 2001, it was fun and fresh. 10 years later, I feel like I've seen this act too many times.
ReplyDeleteIt they will let Mike Joy call the race AND the person calling the shots in the camera truck does their job right, that's pretty much what I need for a race broadcast.
I don't need a lot of talking from DW or the others. Just show me the race and for heaven's sakes how about a little professionalism -- no cheerleading, no shilling.
The reason that they moved outside for the Pre-race is so Hammond could work on his tan in the Florida sun.
ReplyDeleteThey ran out of spray in the make-up trailer.
I like what there doing with the pre race in w the fans! This tmz thing is different lol if done right like this is its entertaining. Now Pizzi or whatever thats stupid!! Hope we dont see him today. But I like how there not in the hollywood hotel
ReplyDeleteDW as Harvey Levin! That was funny.
ReplyDeleteHistorically I haven't watched pre-race shows. I had the Speed guys on in the background while I worked in the garage this morning. It was pleasant enough, for the amount of attention I gave it.
ReplyDeleteI have avoided the "Hollywood Hotel" like a pit road speeding penalty. I'll let the Planeteer's comments today tell me if I should continue to do so.
hey gang! trying something new this daytona 500: going to the daytona party without my laptop! not sure how i'll feel at the end of the day but i'm going to try & not give in and borrow my host's laptop!
ReplyDeletewill check in on everyone after the race, late tonight.
race hard, be safe and have fun, guys!
When is the last time we had a pre-race show in the Cup Series that was hitting on all cylinders?
ReplyDeleteAs long as there are no Pizzi sighting I'll be happy
ReplyDeleteHard week for Chris Myers. Our hearts all go out to him today.
ReplyDeleteHe's doing a great job, upbeat considering he had to bury his Dad Thursday.
So sad.
This comment has been removed by a blog administrator.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it fun to see just how TV can totally change?
ReplyDeleteThat always amazes me!
Racingfool, I had no idea that Chris Myers' dad had passed. That's terrible.
ReplyDeleteThree songs from Brad P. coming up next on FOX after the break.
ReplyDeleteGood choice of artists.
Drivers are so much more accessible before a huge event than any other sport
ReplyDeleteThis outside show is amazing!
ReplyDeleteThey finally came up with something exciting.
Compare to the endless drawling on and on inside the Hollywood Hotel this stands out.
Drivers arms reach away, fans, great backdrop.
Great idea. I wonder who came up with it?
Gotta get rid of that gopher!
ReplyDeleteGreat song and he even got the name of the town right.
ReplyDeleteIt's Daytona Beach. The track is Daytona.
Good job Brad!!!!!!
Fox Sports has a new president, Erik Shanks who said he wanted to freshen up some of the existing programming.
ReplyDeleteThey certainly have so far.
First 30 minutes and Fox is letting the TV viewers get the feel of the excitement level create at Daytona. Nice Fox! It's about time.
ReplyDeleteAll the gushing praise is nice, but is nobody going to comment how strange the ending was to the Kurt Busch interview? Looked like they dumped out of a tape piece right in the middle of it.
ReplyDeleteReally? I did not see that. Too much coffee already!
ReplyDeleteIf Erik Shanks is the new decision maker. What's up with David Hill?
ReplyDeleteIs he in a hole somewhere looking for Digger? Wow that was a flop as big as "new Coke"
Don'tcha just love the ginormous Chevy bowtie and the Pizza Hut logos? NOT.
ReplyDeleteIt's a good start.
ReplyDeleteNASCAR making a noticeable move more towards the country music fan.
I remember about 10-12 years ago, when they left the country crowd and tried the rock / alternative route.
It's a great day for a race !!
Snow, sleet & freezing rain in my part on Michigan today. It just started with the snow & sleet. Possible wide spread power outages. Hope the power don't go out during the race!
ReplyDeleteI think these prerace shows on Fox are too long. 30 min would have been plenty. I'm not a country fan so the concert is a waste of time for me. Wish they'd interview more drivers instead of the concert. Do a Wendy V. walk down the grid.
Well, lets hope for a great race today and that DW looses his voice 5 min into the broadcast!
Oh, and as racingfool said earlier, if you have a newer TV that can pickup digital signals, I think the over the air broadcast quality is superior to what I'm getting on Directv.
ReplyDeleteBrad was a good choice for pre-race entertainment. I liked all songs.
ReplyDeleteDavid Hill is now in charge of SPEED and is responsible for all the changes going on at that network from Steve Byrnes hosting Race Hub to creating the SPEED Center and updating all motorsports highlights on the weekend.
ReplyDeleteHill brought Patti Wheeler in to run the programming and production departments.
Bill, it not only a great clear picture. It's cheaper too. FREE!
ReplyDeleteI watch everything else I need on streaming. Hulu, Netflick, networks, and more.
I cannot wait for TNT and race buddy.
When will NASCAR GET IT.
Me too Vince. Supposed to hit late this afternoon. Stay safe. Liking the pre-race so far.
ReplyDeleteJD thanks for the blog during races again. Happy 500 Everybody. Last year I was listening to Mardi Gras music & was happy for the choice since the pothole issue.
ReplyDeletePersonally some of the country songs were VERY depressing to me (for reasons I shall not explain) but coulda picked something happier unless they were about Dale Sr & I missed it.
I am so sorry Chris had to bury his father yesterday :-( I had no idea. heartbreak time no matter the reason, no matter the age. Condolences to he & his family.
re: Any applau---er gripes on the camera work. Will wait to add those two pennies :-D
Lots of praise for changes made, but big picture is we had to rely on web streams just to see the Nationwide & Camping World series this weekend. Being far out of market doesn't help, so we'll take advantage of a rare local radio broadcast with the ads muted on the television. Hope the OTA digital signal holds out during a tsnownami..
ReplyDeleteIt was a shame that the parties in the deal could not agree on offering a streaming feed, even for a small fee.
ReplyDeleteJust got to get the message to those who cannot get to a TV.
Great tribute to Dale. I sure miss that guy. #3 forever........
ReplyDeleteSo sad right now.
ReplyDeleteThe "Country Music" is fine with me but it seems odd to have it if they want to attract the 18-34 year old demographic. I don't think many of that age group are attracted to the modern version of "Country Music".
ReplyDeleteAs an on scene reporter today I want to welcome myself and all you to 2011!
ReplyDeleteThree observations and a prediction:
The crowds are today and have been throughout the 4 days I have been here the largest and happiest I have seen in 3 or 4 years. Thatr is nice to see.
The most honored man I have seen has been Ken Schrader. Everywhere he goes he gives the "three" and people applaud and cheer him. When he did well at Volusia Motorsports park Thurday the crowd went nuts cheering him. Has to make him feel good.
The despised Digger Van is the most lonely souvenir trailer in the place and Friday night there was a "Digger only" camp. Bring a Digger or some other stuffed rodent, drop it in the campfire and get a free beverage of your choice. The event was well attended.
And today Jeff Gordon will win. Jeff has been everywhere and I can tell you he is super pumped.
Have fun Planeteers!
I have a feeling that chasing that demo is on the back burner.
ReplyDeleteWow, I'll bet this is really hard for Chris doing this piece.
ReplyDeleteHe's pro and it shows considering what he went through this week.
Why is Fox playing a football theme for a Nascar race?
ReplyDeleteThanks PammH. You stay safe too. It has already started snowing hard here in southwest MI.
ReplyDeleteI like the new Chris Myers. Too bad it took so long for us to see the real guy.
I believe we'll continue to see this energy and the fast pace to the Fox pre-race shows. Outside of this race and Talladega, Fox's pre-race shows this season are only going to be 30 minutes long this year, unlike the hour long they used to be. Hopefully the shorter pre-race shows means they've trimmed the fat from them, so to speak.
ReplyDeleteIs anyone else sick of the JJ worship?
ReplyDeleteChecked out the "free" stuff on Nascar dot com. It ain't free today. (unless you sign up with a credit card)
ReplyDeleteIf you did not hear it earlier, the NFL changed the Super Bowl date to a week later.
ReplyDeleteIn return, NASCAR has moved the Daytona 500 to one week later starting in 2012.
I'm really sick of having TV interview the same drivers over and over and over. I know there are more than 8 or 9 drivers there...with all the coverage they have, couldn't they interview someone new?
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone else wonder if any of those other athletes had ever heard of JJ until they were asked to do that TV bit?
I hope this is not a thread hijack or anything, but after today, I will be forced to discontinue my Directv acct. I am long unemployed, and had to choose between internet and tv.
ReplyDeleteWell, I can't look for jobs on the tv, so it was a no-brainer which one to keep. I also have a pretty snappy internet connection (8mb/sec), and can watch streaming HD video pretty well. I know that I'll be able to watch Cup races OTA until mid May, but I love watching Nationwide races, and a truck race every now and then.
Can anyone tell me what my options are? Maybe a link or two?
Chris is great and can actually pronounce words correctly.
ReplyDeleteAin't that cool?
It pints a better picture.
Sally agree with you, where's Regan Smith, Mark Martin, David Ragan, Kasey Kahne, and others???? They show interviews of the same over and over.
ReplyDeleteBill, I've been doing the air waves and internet stream for a year now.
ReplyDeleteI do not miss a thing.
Except:
Nationwide on ESPN
Cup when ESPN takes over.
As far as other programing, there is very little that is not streamed a day or so late.
Like Idol, TNA Wrestling (yes I like it) and much more.
What is so cool is I have the option to watch when I want to online.
20 minutes to go to Kick off.
Oops I mean Green Flag. LOL
enough of the music, the self indulgent, UN-FUNNY attempts at humor>
ReplyDeleteHonestly, the stretch limo? The "talent" ideas meeting?
50 minutes into the pre race before they get into a decent piece?
Oh wait, another piece with animation! Trash talk piece for crissake.
THIS IS WHATS WRONG WITH NASCAR
I just watched a few minutes of the pre race coverage on both networks. It was all I could take. What, another "tribute" to Jimmie Johnson??? I heard Kenny Wallace's voice earlier and turned the TV off.DW just can't spew out the bs fast enough. He's not bad when he just calls the race, but no, he can't resist flapping his jaws. I hope this site is as interesting as it was during the NNS race. I'm not optimistic that today's race will be as good.
ReplyDeleteanyone remember when Phil & Benny Parsons dad died, and they both worked that weekend, saying he would be really mad if they didn't do their jobs. The show must go on, but still, Chris is being a real trooper.
ReplyDeleteya know...lots of race fans are not country fans. The biggest sslections in the tailgate areas are usually classic or country rock. Big E himself said he mostly listened to that (and yes, I know Kix Brooks was a pal.) A lot of the drivers admit to being rap/hip-hop fans, although I personally can't stand it.
We'll I'm enjoying Fox for a change I like the new Chris Myers, hopefully they don't revert to type once back into the hotel. Have Pit command up and race scanner, incase JJ spotter is not the one talking. Haven't figured out how that's gonna work for us fans. Dalyplanet up and running beside Twitter so I'm all set
ReplyDeleteMRN has already talked to Bayne & Logano, now have Stewart. OTA signal is awful, they should be so lucky we bother to DVR. The D-team running the AM station isn't faring very well, production-wise, but at least that technology is weather-proof.
ReplyDeleteFinally a real Chris Meyers on the pre race. Now if he could just shut DW up for a few minutes it would be perfect. Love the tribute to Dale -
ReplyDeleteHowever, my husband hears the NFL music & hopes for a game. I wish Fox hadn't done that.
Thanks for the live blog again this year JD.I read it daily even tho' I don't comment alot
Annon,
ReplyDeleteThey tried a Classical Orchestra back in the 1960's playing some Bach and Beethoven and it did not go over very well.
They were also serving wine with caviar and no one had any.
JD probably remembers who the entertainment was back during Chariot racing days. I don't, too young. LOL
Pre-race ceremonies coming out of the break.
ReplyDeleteGreat start to a pre race show. fizzled out towards the end. More live interviews less recorded pieces. I give it an A- for not following through with their strong start
ReplyDeleteIt's a tough choice when you try to mix live music into a sports TV show. Frowned upon at ESPN.
ReplyDeleteLoving the NFL on FOX theme and graphics!
ReplyDeleteWhat was the NFL theme music will now be the theme for all of the FOX Sports live events.
ReplyDeleteNew prez likes it.
Anyone use trackpass? I am loading the pitcommand but when I click on radio it will not play the broadcast. If someone has it can you check for me.
ReplyDeleteGreat anthem! She can go to every race and sing them!
ReplyDeleteThe Anthem the way it was meant to be.
ReplyDeleteJD wrote:
ReplyDelete"NASCAR has moved the Daytona 500 to one week later starting in 2012."
Yup, and that has thrown the rental mkt etc here into a frenzy. One guy sed to me "That is like moving the Masters!. Does not he (BZF) know wthe ramifications of his idiot decisions?
To which I said, "Um he never has."
Anthem over. Beer empty. Time to refuel and go racin!
See Y'all later
DirecTV Hot Pass choices today:
ReplyDelete#29
#48
#24
#88
Branden, clear your cache and close other programs that might interfere. No other complaints so far. Will keep you posted.
ReplyDeleteI always wonder about those people in the crowd who have to sit patiently underneath the huge American flag while it's draped over them.
ReplyDeleteTwo words we have not heard on TV today: Brian France.
ReplyDeleteGreat job with the anthem MM. Loved the USAF Thunderbirds flyover. I'm a proud USAF vet. The flyovers still give me goose bumps.
ReplyDeleteWe have a white out here. In the 1-2 inch an hour now. Jeez......
Good point JD. They want Brian and particularly Jamie France to stay away. That has been the arrangement with Jamie forever.
ReplyDelete@Branden - also if you have AdBlock on turn it off for NASCAR.com only. That trick worked here. After you clear your cache & restart browser. Good luck
ReplyDeleteMartine always amazed me how such a tiny girl has such a BIG voice, great job, I spared myself the agony of the prerace for the most part
ReplyDeleteNow that was how the Anthem should be done. Hopefully, nascar will use that as the standard. Love the new Chris Myers. So sad we had to endure his persona of years past. Hope the new Myers sticks around. They have overused DW and I am already tired of his opinions. MC
ReplyDeleteThanks John, did that, at least now I can hear my driver but still nothing for the radio.
ReplyDeleteAnyone else suffering from the DW overdose? Sheesh - he's been all over this weekend!
ReplyDeleteTry JoJaye's advice!
ReplyDeleteWhen will DW go out to pasture and retire?
ReplyDeleteVince - Snow just starting here south of Lansing.
ReplyDelete1/2" of ice possible.
Big day today for #14 Smoke.
I'm stoked !
Vince, Dagen McDowell of Fox Business is down there in Daytona this week and flew with the Thunderbirds. She got so sick she said (and for the entire day too) she was worried she wouldn't be able to do all the interviews she had planned but she did.
ReplyDelete"When will DW go out to pasture and retire?"
ReplyDeleteHe'll have to be put to sleep.
Let's go racin'!
ReplyDeleteIf FOX leaves after the 2014 season, that should end his deal.
ReplyDeleteI think Comcast is going make a big run with NBC and VERSUS.
That network will be renamed soon as well. Probably will have the NBC brand.
JD, I'm hoping that NASCAR media group takes over the whole deal.
ReplyDeleteThat know how to sell spots.
It will all be streaming by then anyway.
Enjoy the 500 Everyone.
Yee haw!!!!!!
Business trip to Italy cancelled at the last minute on Friday. So, in sunny GA on my recliner -- right where I belong!
ReplyDelete"Road Warrior" cars?? Shades of WWF. NASCAR needed less than an hour to show they have learned nothing over the winter. I can't wait to see who is next to get the blame for continued low viewership and race attendance.
ReplyDeleteCertainly self accountability is not NASCAR's best thing.
Every track gets a sponsor. NASCAR was making $$ off that big time.
ReplyDeleteKyle Busch and Mikey? That could be fun.
ReplyDeleteThose were Transformers. Movie tie-in. Think Optimus Prime.
ReplyDeleteThat worked out pretty well.
ReplyDeleteAll the folks holding three fingers up was touching. Good thing Dale's number wasn't 72 or something!
ReplyDeleteGarbage racing. May not make it through all of this one. It's a shame really.
ReplyDeleteAre we overloaded with commercials today? It was like they couldn't wait for a caution to occur so they could go to commercial break.
ReplyDeleteThat caution was just in time. I was thinking "I sure would like to see some commercials".
ReplyDeleteThey could not WAIT to get this first ad break in, could they? Picture cut nearly immediately..
ReplyDeleteNice Lap 3 - even DW was silent -Glad they showed it on tv.
ReplyDeleteWell it didn't take Mikey long to get in Kyles good graces.lol.
This is where you really miss RaceBuddy.
ReplyDeleteThat was a nice Chevy Earnhardt ad.
ReplyDeleteDidn't Kyle have the same thing happen when Mark pushed him in the Bud Shootout?
ReplyDeleteis DW making excuses for Mikey?
ReplyDeleteHappy Race Day Planeteers <3
ReplyDeleteI am having intermittent problems with the OTA signal from the local FOX affiliate. The is no wind outdoors, yet the signal is in and out like we are in a storm. Argh!
ReplyDeleteLoved that Chevy commercial..
ReplyDeleteYeah. Class act by Chevy to do that ad today.
ReplyDeleteFOX has tons of time here with yellow
ReplyDeletedo you think they could do a quick "who moved up who moved back"??
nope
just BLAH BLAH BLAH
Somebody needs to tell Mike Joy that a silver car and blue car doesnt' make them identical. Vickers is in the silver car.
ReplyDeleteMore pit reporters I agree. Been an issue once DW and Larry Mac get yakking.
ReplyDeletehappiness is having trackpass, so at least I can tell what the heck position the cars are in since they don't seem capable of telling us on TV!
ReplyDeletehttp://www.thundercountry.com/mediaplayer/?station=WCTH-FM&action=listenlive&channel_title= if anybody wants MRN online
ReplyDeleteWatching on old SD tv. Am I the only one having trouble with the ticker colors? How many times are we going to be forced to look at MW?
ReplyDeleteMay be time for another new NASCAR rule since the Gibbs people don't want their frequency accessed by other drivers.
ReplyDeleteNASCAR may have to mandate it so they have IFR and VFR in this tandem racing today.
Little E needs to pick out a new partner to do it with if I were him.
Have Truex be a wall flower at this dance.
Nascar.com leaderboard stuck on lap 6. Moved to Fox Sports.
ReplyDeleteI actually would rather they talk about who has gotten separated from their dancing partner than where in the field they are running. The distance can usually be made up if you have the right person pushing.
ReplyDeleteanybody have an internet radio link? Mylaptop was in shop for 10 days & I forgot to back up my old links...were from east coast or philly area I think? call letters will help
ReplyDeleteFrom reporter jeff_gluck:
ReplyDeleteMichael Waltrip talking to David Reutimann about drafting nose-to-bumper, and Reutimann cracks, "That's not a nose joke, is it?"
This comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeletethunder country 100.3 Sophia
ReplyDeletePretty good so far, although I hope these mid race, ESPN style interview segments don't continue all season long. That is what the pre race is for.
ReplyDeleteAny bets on how many laps until Steven Wallace spins in front of the field?
ReplyDeleteI love crack it up. Its the only time DW would finally shut up.
ReplyDeletenot a fan of these crank it up segments
ReplyDeleteIn re to the Gibbs cars not sharing their frequencies: JJ was talking to Chad about switching frequencies and Chad got on him, saying not to do it. JJ protested and Chad said, apparently quoting the rule book, that Nascar said the drivers were to be in contact with their spotters at all time.
ReplyDeleteAnd DW shilling for Jr. is getting sooo old....along with the making excuses for Mikey.
Interesting seeing Tony Stewart working with Paul Menard. Remember that Tony used to drive John Menard's IndyCar.
ReplyDeleteWeird science (to me) here in the stands: People are watching their phones and I Pads while the race is going on in front of us. I'm Ancient I know, but still it seems odd. Jus sayin
ReplyDeleteErik has a point, but I'm with anon 1:53. It's never going to sound like it does if you're there, no matter how hard they try.
ReplyDeleteKind of like Rusty plugging American Ethanol yesterday on ESPN without saying he is a paid spokesman for them!
ReplyDeleteLove it!
@Jeff
ReplyDeleteThank you!
lol Ancient Era, You have found NASCAR's coveted casual fan.
ReplyDeleteKevin Harvick in smoke. blew up? Rats
ReplyDeletenice miss Fox, Harvicks out
ReplyDeleteshoot, hearing on Gordon's radio that they had a blown engine in front of them. He said they hit the 7 but for christmas sake we're in commercial
ReplyDelete@AncientRacer
ReplyDeleteThose fans are the target audience of the Tim Brewer segments on ESPN races.
They won't show the race in one window and commercial in another window when going to a commercial break but they will show you the race and insert a commercial.
ReplyDeleteFox needs to move DW into the hotel with Chris and Jeff. Please.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by a blog administrator.
ReplyDelete@ Sophia, yw, for some reason they didnt do the NW race yesterday, glad they are on today
ReplyDeleteThey did this last year to.
ReplyDeleteIf there is a caution when at commercial they come back and show pits stops before showing what caused the caution.
I would like to know what caused it first.
Times like this I miss RaceBuddy!
ReplyDeleteDale Jr. "needs to know more about what that car in front of him is doing"
ReplyDeleteAlso, spotter didn't know the caution was out when the #46 blew up.
Is Dale Jr.'s spotter today the same guy spotting for Danica yesterday?
What's with all these fuel stops?
ReplyDeleteAncient -- I have never understood that either. Of course, at a big track like this sometimes its harder to see at the track.
ReplyDeleteall of these KH video is tape delayed and FOX will never say it. I saw the video on Hot Pass a few minutes ago.
ReplyDeletethey should mention this
Just an observation. Neither Speed or ESPN showed a points rundown after their races. Funny since this 'new' points is supposed to be easier to understand.
ReplyDeleteTimes like this I miss RaceBuddy!
ReplyDeleteTimes like this I miss RaceBuddy!
Times like this I miss RaceBuddy!
Really!
@Al--
ReplyDeleteThere is practically no tire wear with the combination of the new surface and the tires Goodyear brought.
So, we could actually have a Michigan-style fuel mileage race.
No Darrell - he gets two points, he led a lap. HA HA HA
ReplyDeleteAnon, that it so true. Now some folks know the truth all the time about what is live and what is "time shifted."
ReplyDeleteancient I had race view a couple of years ago. You wind up watching the video and not the race. I have given it up. If I want to watch TV I will stat home
ReplyDeleteHot Pass now has 5 in place of 29 for a four car Hendrick hot pass day.
ReplyDeleteGreat coverage thus far from FOX BUT DW is dragging it down for them.
ReplyDeleteDW needs a very small restrictor plate.
@Al - remember this is the new fuel E whatever. It gets less MPG -NASCAR is still mandating the old smaller fuel cell - so more fuel stops
ReplyDelete...and 2 by 2 was supposed to be safer?
ReplyDeleteThis race just got boring
ReplyDeleteLOVE the Crank it Up! FOX is the best! Nothng better than a small block wound up tite!
ReplyDeleteHow many times is that for Mikey this weekend spinning folks? Whew.
ReplyDeleteToo bad for Brian. Nice to see him up front with an antique setup instead of just starting and parking.
ReplyDeleteHooooo S###! I cant see who got into it, but it did make the I Pad heads here look up!
ReplyDeletewell, that ends my interest in the 500. Glad that I didn't waste the $ to go and see it.
ReplyDeleteAll 3 of the HMS cars in the same pile
I'm guessing that no one should want Mikey to push them
ReplyDeleteMichael does to the field what Darrell does to the broadcast.
ReplyDeletethis racing is not safe and not all that much fun to watch
ReplyDeleteHope Brian Keselowski can get another car
ReplyDeleteI hope Nascrap is happy..Completely stupid.
ReplyDeleteWell, I hope Nascar is happy. Half the field in the garage. Next time, don't repave the track so well.
ReplyDeleteThe first time fan would be saying WTH is this?
And DW not very chatty now that MW's team has caused the whole wreck.
God, what a mess.
I guess Waltrip is trying to wreck all the competition what a clown
ReplyDeleteAnon 2:11 -- I agree with you. Not safer AND boring. what a great combo.
ReplyDeleteReut just said it was his fault. You guys watching?
ReplyDeleteDW sounded dejected when he saw Michael didn't make it through the accident he caused. Nice of a driver to absolve his team owner of any wrong doing. Car ownership has its benefits.
ReplyDeleteLooks like only about 26 cars remaining. Bud Shootout Part 2!
ReplyDeleteNew slogan going up here: "Brian have at it!" (It is sarcasm)
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't blame the track, guys. I blame NASCAR for trying to micromanage what a car and driver does.
Fox is slow on the draw today they have some rust to knock off.
ReplyDeleteJD, yes, I heard the interview with Reut, but what's he gonna say after all? The 15 has been involved in multiple incidents since they started speedweeks, after a while, you just have to believe your eyes, not what someone says to be PC
ReplyDeleteThis isn't like Daytona 500s of recent years. Usually the first 150 laps have been rather tame lately. We're not even 100 miles into this one.
ReplyDelete26 cars left at lap 34! wow, what a letdown if I were a fan at the race.
ReplyDeleteJust a few thoughts
ReplyDeleteI really miss RaceBuddy
Since we got NFL music - why not ditch the rat & get the robot? Its sort of mechanical & will fit in better, right?
This "racing" is not good - real race fans do not like watching wrecks - we want to see racing.
I Really Miss RaceBuddy!
not sure it was mikey's fault..you heard kyle say on the first one that he trailed brake because he saw cars in front and had no where to go and when he did hit the brake it got him out of control.. ruet said he had to back down due to what was in front of him and didn't tell mike on the radio
ReplyDeleteSo, Jeff is saying that basically, drivers should just cruise for most of the race. great.
ReplyDeleteGood interview with Jeff Gordon in the garage.
ReplyDeleteDear Jeff Gordon,
ReplyDeleteThis is a race. Fans pay to see drivers race 3 wide and not ride around until the last 10 laps.

ReplyDeletePlease see my earlier comment regarding rodent fueled campfires on Friday Night
Hey everyone! Great coverage I like it so far! Great all around
ReplyDeleteGO JR
looks like there will be some major changes before July race. This "dance partner" racing does not work with 43 cars on track.
ReplyDeleteObviously the theme song for Dega and daytona has to be 'The Pusher'.
ReplyDeleteSteve Wallace going 200mph behind you, what can go wrong? I'm quoting someone else, can't remember who, LOL.
ReplyDeleteNow look at me. I'm doing it too. I'm at the race but on the Planet. And where is Gordon He still in? I have predicted him to win. I have his and not KYBu's hat on.
