Live Blogging Sprint Cup Series From Phoenix (FOX - 2:30PM ET)
The real season starts this week as the ten month grind begins at the Phoenix International Raceway. FOX starts with a thirty minute pre-race show, then opening ceremonies and race coverage.
Chris Myers, Darrell Waltrip and Jeff Hammond are first up. It should be interesting to see if FOX keeps the new smaller outdoor set used in Daytona. That put the trio out among the fans and gave the pre-race show a very different vibe.
Waltrip joins Mike Joy and Larry McReynolds in the TV booth for the race. Waltrip took away Joy's final lap call last week by talking over top of the TV veteran. We will see if Waltrip learned anything from the criticism he received or if he continues to be the primary voice in the booth.
Steve Byrnes, Matt Yocum, Krista Voda and Dick Berggren are the pit reporters. Unlike Daytona, this group should be busy today with tires, fuel and pit strategy being the big stories. We still have to see how long the tires last on a green track scrubbed by rain overnight.
While Daytona and the lovebug style of racing demanded wideshots and special coverage, PIR will tell the tale of whether the TV director is going to continue this style or return to the classic FOX approach of single car shots and in-car cameras.
The weather looks good and the scenery from PIR is outstanding. With some good racing, PIR has the potential to erase a lot of the bad memories of the lovebug push show seen at Daytona.
This post will serve to host your comments on the FOX coverage of the Sprint Cup Series from PIR. To add your TV-related comments, just click on the comments button below. This is a family-friendly website, please keep that in mind when posting. Thank you for taking the time to stop by The Daly Planet.
Gotta tell ya, hearing the broadcast call of Trevor's win makes me cringe everytime!! It's just a jumble of voices-can't understand anyone. What a shame...:(
ReplyDeleteA couple of comments about last week before we get started today. I love Mike Joy, but I really felt he was unprepared to call the two-by-two kind of racing. Also, I thought that Fox should have planned better for the type of race that they knew we were going to see. They should have been ready to show us, and tell us, who was paired up with whom, how long they had been working together, who was changing partners, was it working for them, who was a great pusher. Fox seemed to prepare for a "regular" Daytona race and just couldn't tell us the story of how the race was developing.
ReplyDeleteIn any case, I hope to see improvement today. Hope.
Quote of the day from Kyle Petty:
ReplyDelete"I don't know, I don't know. Hammond and Darrell's been in the way a long time."
Good Afternoon All,
ReplyDeleteThanks to JD, and all the comments from last week. I am going to watch the pregame show on fox today. I only watched a few prerace shows during the 2010 season. Currently watching raceday on speed.
Enjoy the race.
lou
@Robbiejr.
ReplyDeleteAre you sure that was Kyle? It sounds like Donald Rumsfeld.
My code word this time is "fultemo" and that sounds like a Beethoven Opera. Code words and me are on a roll today
Oh dear. The racing from Phoenix has been dreadful in recent years. Difficult to pass, and producing very few incidents and cautions. The perfect way to follow up a wonderful Daytona 500. Unless the race is really a lot better than what we've seen at Phoenix since the advent of the COT, FOX is going to have very little to screw up no matter what they do.
ReplyDeleteI happened to catch Kenny Wallace telling the fans that giving Shrubs 'total wins' as coming close to R Petty's is legitimate, not sucking up to Nascar and Kyle. He said tha't how Nascar does it now. If that's the case, why don't they give the totals for every driver for every race they've ever won in Nascar's top 3 series? does he really think we are stupid enough to believe that?
ReplyDelete"Difficult to pass, and producing very few incidents and cautions."
ReplyDeleteWell, I enjoy racing for the racing, not for the wrecking...
LOL, if Kyle really said that, it is too funny.
ReplyDeleteI'm still not going to watch the prerace stuff -- subjecting myself to RaceDay and Kenny Wallace's lack of 2 brain cells to rub together is just more than I can stand.
One comment about the Wooden Indian topic that JD wrote about yesterday - I just read an article that Moody wrote about the same thing. I was quite surprised to read that he echoes the commentary we all made about the coverage of the Nationwide regulars.
Slander, I think what Zetona was saying was that, if you're looking for an exciting race with all sorts of passing, etc., you're in for a disappointment.
ReplyDeleteI myself may have to take a snooze during this race myself.
It will be interesting to see how FOX can screw this one up. I'm sure they'll figure it out, though.
@Slander
ReplyDeleteWell, if there's no racing on the track, the excitement generally comes from cautions. Phoenix has had neither since the COT.
I believe Nascar is trying to get new young viewers to watch and be part of Nascar racing. From the attendance and Tv ratings I don’t think they are succeeding. What Nascar is accomplishing is turning away even your hardcore fan.
ReplyDeleteI have been watching Nascar since the 80’s and I will be watching Golf today and recording the race. Nascar is no longer about drivers and cars and pit stops, it is about filling 3 hours of tight camera shots, commercials and promoting what is written in front of them. You will rarely hear about a driver that started 25th and ends up 9th if he or she is not in the script. Nascar has forgotten then each fan has a driver they root for. Go to a race sometime and look at the race fans and what they wear. They don’t all wear the same colors for a certain driver. As the race is going on you don’t see fans taking off their driver’s hat, etc because that driver is not in the lead. Nascar is suppose to be a group sports with 43 different drivers to cheer for, not just the drivers Nascar decides to script for a certain race. I as a fan watch and cheer for a certain driver but if that driver is not in the script you will never hear about him or her.
Enjoy the race today and I hope your driver was picked in the meeting before the race to be talked about.
I feel that they are going to ruin Phoenix with the remodel, so I'm going to enjoy this last race.
ReplyDeleteAnother reason I'll enjoy it is because I'm getting my audio from MRN instead of Fox. I really like Mike Joy, but I'm tired of the way that the network calls the race.
Yep, Kyle really said that, after Kenna suggested the FOX pre-race set might be in the way in the middle of pit road when the race starts. I quoted Kyle word for word.
ReplyDeleteStart time was 2:30. All the broadcasters had time for a pre-race show. What are we waiting for?
ReplyDeleteIt's 76 degrees out, I interrupted my work to come in and watch the race. Guess I should have waited until the last ten laps when all the racing is actually done anyway.
Green flag 3:14 PM ET.
ReplyDeleteWorlds worth of differnce in pic between fox regular and fox hd. I will not pay for hd cable but they have to give over air on cable in hd. They hide it, but I am a clever kitty and I find it.
ReplyDeleteSeems as though fox is trying to force folks to hd. I guess we will know when the crawl sarts today. I have noticed it is darn near unreadable in std cable/broadcast
I'll turn it on at green flag. Gave RaceDay a chance for the season only to be accosted by a Kenny Wallace bellowing lecture. That's it for the rest of the season even though I like Kyle Petty.
ReplyDeleteAlright, I'm going back outside. I'll check back in at 17:00.
ReplyDeleteWe, including me, may not be looking at the latest "silver lining" in the NASCAR Broadcasts Cloud.
ReplyDeleteThe "Silver" or really "gold" change is what FOX has done is taking the Hollywood Hotel announcers down onto the ground where the action is.
The best part is they have shortened the Pre-race boredom so we don't have to listen to bla bla bla and a bunch old comedy routines prior to the race. Like the dumb question skit with the Hotel Bell used in it.
Plus, what happened to Hammond's Cut Away Toy Box?
Is it gone for good?
Good, we get enough useless information each week from Tim Brewer like the brilliant brake segment he astounded us with last night.
We all now understand what a lug nut does and what a seat belt does so thanks for moving the announcers onto the track and moving the cameras focused on race action on the track. That is why we watch!
dumbazz Myers is back this week..:(
ReplyDeleteLove the pre-race set out on pit road; it not only adds atmosphere but I think some vitatlity to the show. The baseball segment with Michael Waltrip was quite pointless and uninteresting honestly. I enjoy Gas N Go and think it could be extended longer to cover more topics. Rev'd Up could become an interesting segment, but it's debut was certainly not spectacular.
ReplyDeleteOn the commercial front, I just want to say that I am now officially 100% tired of Micheal Waltrip's butt.
ReplyDeleteWishing everyone a great race! :)
ReplyDeleteNot happy that this version of Chris Myers is back.
ReplyDeleteIt ruins the pre-race show when he pretends to be an idiot.
Not a good start.
Well we are 2 for 2 on Cup Anthems this year. Hope they keep that going!
ReplyDeleteKoHoSo,
ReplyDeleteMW said on Twitter just the other day that he hoped they would stop running that spot.
"perfect" anthem! Sign her up for the rest of the season.
ReplyDeleteready to go racing, same problems this week with nascar pitcommand still no mrn radio working
ReplyDeleteamazing how different the tone is with Chris Myers, guess David Hill told him to goof it up more. Shame.
ReplyDeleteEmmy did a great job. How hard it is to pick someone like her that you know can sing? Hope the other tracks keep this up.
It can't be our resident troll without obnozious comments making reference to obscenities or intimate body parts...you know, high school locker room talk.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to watch a few minutes, then probably follow on the blog.
ReplyDeleteI made the mistake of having the Tv on the pre-show and I alaready have Waltrip overload. Having Baby Waltrip with a baseball team must be Fox's way of making racing a stick and ball sport in their mind. Old Waltrip and his "the Daytona race was the best ever and don't change anything" while staring in the camera almost made me sick.
ReplyDelete@KoHoSo:
ReplyDeleteHis actual butt, or is that a euphemism for his brother?
If it's the latter, then I can agree with that even more than the former.
Everyone is welcome to comment on the coverage here...but beware....we are brutally honest.
ReplyDelete@KoHoSo & JD
ReplyDeleteIf Mikey said that why did he tape that? I know, $, but he knew his butt would be run ad nauseum. Sooo his objection seems hollow
Out on the roof. Hmm....shades of the old ESPN deal.
ReplyDeleteMRN radio wecoradio.com/home/index.php has streaming but is delayed a good 30 seconds or so.
ReplyDeleteJD and Pamm H.
ReplyDeleteI think the world of Chris.
He was so "on" last week.
He is a smart and great announce person. But---
The Q and A segment is still there and I am corrected on that point.
I do agree in part with your comments about Chris.
He is much better playing the straight man.
The goofy act needs to be anywhere but the opening of a NASCAR race.
They already have plenty of natural talent to play the goof sitting right there for the World to see.
It boils down to Hammond trying to be intelligent and speak without a drawl and Chris being the second Banana. They need to reverse the casting order to be more suited for the "real" person.
Jeff can do the goof without even breaking a sweat and causing his tan spray to run.
How much money did Subway give to Fox today???
ReplyDeleteBeing told some water seeping through in turn 1. Keep an eye on it and see if TV shows it.
ReplyDeleteMyers needs to get his brains back in his head and DW has to cut way back on the caffine. Otherwise I enjoyed it, just hope that now that we've moved on to the next race they'll back off on the Trevor Bayne stuff. He's a really nice kid and I would hate to see him become the next Casey Atwood.
ReplyDeleteThat was a long and dreadful 1/2 hour.
ReplyDeleteInteresting that the Fox opening shows the 3 winning a race when they never broadcast a race that he won.
ReplyDelete"Up on the Roof" Ah, The Drifters.
ReplyDeleteHi all, gonna try and watch this today without my blood pressure going dangerously high...so I'll listen to MRN. DW sounds best muted.
ReplyDeleteUgh. I realize all this stuff costs money, but enough with hawking stuff over and over and over. Jeez.
ReplyDeleteHope they compensate by not going to commercials every 5 laps...but I doubt it.
Otherwise, Daly - per your twitter post, if they are going to be on pit road, why not interview some people on it besides the usual favorites?
Pre-race shows that hammer the same three stock clips/drivers do not add to my youthful enthusiasm for racing.
I would much rather have Mike Joy run through the whole field highlighting various drivers than attempt these poor audio in-car chats with the drivers.
ReplyDeleteNever got an update on ESPN's team radio problems yesterday.
ReplyDelete1st commercial: Lap 9
ReplyDeleteTakers?
So NASCAR caved and there will be a comp caution on lap 40. Tire issues.
ReplyDeleteAncient -- I'll take the under.
ReplyDeleteDoesn't Martinsville have the same style of pitroad?
ReplyDeletehave they played the NFL on FOX theme today? seems to be that racing day song every time i've payed attention to it
ReplyDeleteStill have not changed the lap counter background color. Man, that is tough to see.
ReplyDeleteLap 8 for commercials here, I guess thats under lol
ReplyDeleteYup. Martinsville goes around the turns.
ReplyDeleteNo, we have not heard the NFL music.
ReplyDeleteIf there is water seeping through the track at that location, somebody will scoop it up and bottle it.
ReplyDeleteLast time I was at the track there was no water around for miles. LOL
Kryle in the lead. Time to change Durrl's seat cushion...
ReplyDeleteSo, if they are running single file back to 15th place, why not show us the side be side?
ReplyDeleteMan, I miss that RaceBuddy. Even the free scanners!
ReplyDeleteedwards scraped the wall, no mention on Fox.
ReplyDeleteI thought I was watching SPEED'S Victory Lane on FOX with them being outside for the pre race
ReplyDelete@KudzuCarl
ReplyDelete10. Shoulda taken the over. Joe Peschi will be by to collect.
Is it really necessary to make something like 5 camera cuts in less than about a minute? C'mon. No wonder we'll see people parking shortly.
ReplyDeleteI want to see the racing FIELD, dang it!
Little late to the blog but GREAT anthem by Emmy Rossum (love her in SHO's Shameless) and ballsy command by Apolo Ohno. Likely the highlights of today's telecast given past performances by FOX....
ReplyDeleteFox missed a lead change.
ReplyDeletemuted works best, coming back to an incar camera shot of the Subway car! What the heck is that? A full screen UPS commercial! during green flag racing.
ReplyDeleteGee whiz and that has been 3 in car shots and one single car shot of the subway car.
Way to hold my attention early in the race
Did we really need that UPS graphic? couldn't they just show the 6 car and let them say the 3 things??
ReplyDeleteCould we NOT have the UPS gfx be a full screen?
ReplyDeleteUPS ... "We love to cover your the racing on your screen with a full screen plug." .... nice....
ReplyDeleteWhy must the UPS Logistics of the Race cover the entire screen? There is no reason why racing cannot be shown in the background while this sponsor-plug styled as a display of information is presented.
ReplyDeleteBack in the 90's, a guy used to get wild feeds from the track cameras and stream then. I used to put up a desktop background of that weeks race, then position the video windows to where the cameras were located and follow the action wherever it was.
ReplyDeleteGood times...
How weird was that UPS deal?
ReplyDeleteReally FOX!? A full scree UPS-ad, while the leader scrapes the wall? ridiculous...
ReplyDeleteWell, Jeff gordon is shown as the leader on pit command. that makes me happy but it is obviously NOT correct
ReplyDeleteGina, the transponder fell off his car!
ReplyDeleteNASCAR is getting him a new one. Should be interesting to see if they get the computer scoring right.
Boooooo UPS WTF was that
ReplyDeleteWhy does larry mac not say pull those belt straps tight one more time like he used to?
ReplyDeleteSo I guess Subway & UPS are sponsoring this race?
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by a blog administrator.
ReplyDelete@GinaV24
ReplyDeleteObviously.
I have scrupulously avoided even mentioning the name of the driver of the 24 all week after the luck I brought in bountiful bunches to him in Daytona.
Of course, we all know the truth: KYBu will win! :)
LOL, yeah, it was nice that it fell off at the start finish line! It was nice for a while and the good thing is that NASCAR is apparently going to allow them to go back on the track and keep their position.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by a blog administrator.
ReplyDeleteDarryl just noticed that carl edwards had damage from hitting the wall. Um... Darryl... Edwards came over the radio and said that he hit the wall before they went to commercial!!!!!
ReplyDelete3 Wide? I didn't see it!
ReplyDelete3 wide and we have in car camera shot, OK now it's WTF Fox
ReplyDeletePlease don't feed the trolls. Thank you - the management.
ReplyDeleteAncient -- not your fault!! LOL, I always blame myself for choosing whatever hat, shirt, whatever was obviously the reason for the bad luck although it sure didn't hurt him any from 1993 to 2001!
ReplyDeleteBut I thank you very much for your consideration.
KyBu is doing very well as always.
They talk about someone racing 3 wide, yet we can't see it on the TV? Excuse me?
ReplyDeleteJust my opinion but it would be nice if they stayed with the overhead shot and quit cutting to so many in car shot. I know they sell the in cars but come on.
ReplyDeleteLots of old tires out there, too, looks like a bunch didn't pit.
ReplyDeleteI have the scanner on with trackpass on - no way I'm listening to DW!
ReplyDeleteOoops, there's goes Rubby!
they finally showed the 3 wide racing -- did they say that Johnson was the meat in the sandwich?
Man, 28 laps in and DW has used the term "wad" 3 times already, I'm turning it off and going to garage and turn on the radio, I just cant stomach any of these guys anymore, I bet I watched less than a 1/4 of the NW race yeaterday.
ReplyDeleteTotally missed the graphic for the race off pit road. Wow.
ReplyDeleteBrad, I would like to see the wide shot too. May go out for a run to take advantage of the sunny day before the daylight goes.
ReplyDeleteNot the smoothest pit coverage by the Fox gang. Is everybody at the track just in a funk today??
ReplyDeleteFoxXMO?
ReplyDeleteI'd rather have XMo be wide shots, thanks
Less in car, and close ups. Less ground cams.
W-I-D-E shots please.
Thank you
Ol DW is just keepin COOL??????????????
ReplyDeleteWhat a terrible job of the cameras, have these folks never seen a race in person before?
Their focus on 1 or 2 drivers at a time helps me lose focus and grow bored in a matter of seconds. It's sad considering there looks to be a lot of racing on the track.
ReplyDeleteWhy is their a muzzle on Larry Mac?
ReplyDeletestupid stupid commercials -- can I tell someone somewhere that I change channels as soon as the commercials come on?
ReplyDeletethey must have some new camera operators or something that was a mess
ReplyDeleteGordon's spotter said that Logano sounds like he's on 7 cylinders - did they say that on tv?
ReplyDeletewhat is that MRN online station stream some of you guys use?
ReplyDeleteFOX is showing the race through replays again.
ReplyDeleteI see they finally caught up with the Logano issue.
ReplyDeleteWay behind aren't they?
Jeff is way po'd
ReplyDelete"Whodiddat?"
The fellow needs a win. He will get one.
Ancient -- is your boy oK? how hard did he hit the wall?
ReplyDeleteGeez and that pizza hut fan favorite thing for the 88 car is going to burn my butt every week.
ReplyDeleteIs it just me or is Mike Joy sighing a lot?
ReplyDeleteMan this production looks like a small market local newscast.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.thundercountry.com/mediaplayer/?station=WCTH-FM&action=listenlive&channel_title=
ReplyDeleteThats the most reliable I've found JD
I can't believe it. Jr is the pizza hut most valuable driver!! Hahahahaha!!!!!!
ReplyDeletewell there goes one of their story lines. Feel bad for Bayne but they need to let him mature as a driver and not put too much pressure on him.
ReplyDeleteoh boy, the Daytona 500 curse strikes again.
ReplyDeleteI am worrying about the 56 being so close to my boy -- paybacks are a you know what and I'm betting Truex hasn't forgotten about last year at Sonoma.
Spotter gave him the "outside" late. Bayne was already spinning.
ReplyDeleteQ: Once gain we have been told Jr. is the fan favorite I know Jr. is "the fan favorite" but what I do not know is who are these fans that he is the favorite of?
ReplyDeleteHardcores (us)?
or someone else.
Just askin
Mike Joy needs to hang up his microphone. He just doesn't have it anymore.
ReplyDeletep i t i f u l! that's how you can define this camera work!
ReplyDeleteAncient -- re Gordon needing a win. I sure hope so! I'm tired of having to put on a happy face every week -- I want to have it be a real smile
I find it interesting that FOX has done Nascar racing before. Many years of experience and this is what they believe to be the best way to show this sport.
ReplyDeleteIt is not like this is their first season televising Nascar and it is a learning curve and we should give them some slack.
OK - I don't understand it - I get to hear the race, Tonys scanner gives race info, the TV is set to Fox, yet it doesn't show racing! Graphics check, commercials check, cartoons check - racing not much
ReplyDeleteIs there a blog (maybe in an alternate universe?) where all of the comments are "I love Digger!" and "I wish DW would talk more!" ?? It seems like that is the one they pay attention to... Since they don't seem to be able to hear anything said here....
ReplyDeleteCathy
Ancient -- a favorite of Pizza hut for sure!
ReplyDeleteBrad - I agree. Geez, let the guy have a chance and grow up. He had a special week last week, now reality bites. I think he has a lot of potential and I hope the media doesn't ruin it for him. he seems like a sane kid.
@GinaV24
ReplyDeleteWe are OK, but not like he'd like it now according to my garage source
OK, somebody's wrecking!
ReplyDeleteThat may have been the most confusing 2 laps Mike Joy has ever called. Holy Cow!!
ReplyDeleteDW is making jokes nobody is laughing at. Joy is messing up everyone's name & the camera work is terrible.
ReplyDeleteOK, I'm going to cry now.
ReplyDeleteCarl needs to get back out there and end Kyle's day. That was deliberate.
ReplyDeleteI SAW ACTION happening for a wreck & FOX changes cameras...sigh. back to radio...been busy w other stuff..turned on tv after TB wreck.
ReplyDeleteNot a clue in the truck booth :-(
Wow, their doing backflips to keep from blaming Kryle. Never any bias from the booth-monkeys...
ReplyDeleteJD Thundercountry 100.3 out of FL for MRN
ReplyDeleteDale Jr. is now on the 21's Directv Hotpass Channel.
ReplyDelete2 separate times DW said Edwards made contact with Kyle. Wrong! Kyle is the one who initiated the contact! LOL
ReplyDelete@Anonymous 3:55:
ReplyDeleteTry the Fox sports website. Plenty of Digger-love there...
That was either a spotter miscue or Kyle just hip-checked Carl... I'm thinking his spotter told him to tuck in behind the 39...
ReplyDeleteCarl saw the video, and couldn't see what happened...
ReplyDeleteWow thats an endorsement of Fox camera work
Duckboy making excuses again.
ReplyDeleterace broadcast via replay!
ReplyDeleteThey are saying that maybe the 24 car is at least reasonably OK.
Probably not as good as it was before the started wrecking.
DW -- yeah, something happened to the 18 all right, the driver turned the car hard to the left!!
ReplyDeleteWhy is DW such a Kyle Busch apologist? It makes me sick.
ReplyDeleteKyle has spotter error.
ReplyDeleteCarl has finesse.
DW making excuses for Kyle. Kyle's mad and acting stupid. Just another NASCAR Sunday.
ReplyDeleteOops - just about to push send and DW made another excuse for Kyle regarding turn two.
They Wrecked-um!
ReplyDeleteHoly moly Grey Goose took out Burton and nearly everyone except SaltsburgTrojanfan
ReplyDeleteIs it just me, or are these races getting ridiculous with the wrecking? I find it interesting that DW thinks something must have gone wrong with KuBu's car to broadside Carl like that. No offense, AR. ;)
ReplyDeleteWow. Just wow.
ReplyDeletep.s. Have tv on mute while finishing laundry
ReplyDeleteTHE COLOR STINKS! HORRIBLE to read. the GLOW to drivers names stinks as does laps to Go.
For the love of GOD fix the stinking graphics.
Another wreck. BIG ONE..and IMMEDIATE comercial muted tv.
TB being interviewed on MRN right now.
Fox, i didn't think you could jump the shark more but you managed to do so.
RED FLAG?
they show the replay of the wreck & fly to commercial? wth???
ReplyDeleteWhat is with the Cup series this season!?!? Another wreck.
ReplyDeleteAnd there goes FOX. They just had to rush to commercial. Comical.
"We'll sort it out after this.." <-- Not a good way to cover a race
ReplyDeleteWell some one is gonna get fired! Caught the wreck live not replay. So instead of info we get commercials.
ReplyDeleteI believe Kyle was trying to get Newman and missed but took out Carl. I think that's what Carl thinks too. Kyle may be in for a short afternoon in Vegas!!
ReplyDeleteOK, are we going to frickin lose most of the field again! Two races in a row
ReplyDelete@PammH
ReplyDelete"they show the replay of the wreck & fly to commercial? wth???"
"Impunity" I think may be the word you are looking for.
OK, I saw the involved in the wreck graphic for 1 second -- is the 24 in it or not? I'm not hearing the radio at all!
ReplyDeletePlus, I agree with the rest of you -- catch the wreck then go to commercial.
Clint -- you are so right -- what a mess.
Well, at least Digger got wrecked and we won't have to see him again today.
ReplyDeleteWonder if BZF is thrilled with his new point system now?
ReplyDeleteThe all new digger cam!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDelete@Sophia re:graphics
ReplyDeleteIt is the HD thing. It works on HD. Regular poor person stuff that we look at it does not work
BZF may be thrilled, but as a fan, I am not happy with any of this mess at all.
ReplyDeleteIt's like they all have their heads up where the sun don't shine.
I don't like violence but what NASCAR needs is a brawl. Worked great in 1979.
ReplyDeleteHere is the YouTube link for those of you too young to remember.
The Infamous Fistfight - Daytona 500 1979
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MXbHQtZH8dE
have tv on to see what Fox is saying
ReplyDeleteThis XMO is wayyyyyy lame & Waste of time. Digger back bigger than ever.
Why am I watching? cause my brother is there..like I'm gonna see him on the tv...sigh.
ARCA race :-(
between the graphics & putrid cam work..and so many wiped out. depressing.
In all fairness, I do not recognize many cars this year due to new paint schemes but guys on tv should have list, correct?
Still I like today's voices when I DO have tv volume over espns bunch.
LOVE MRN!!!!! NO aggravation over camera work..they paint better pictures in my mind than FOX/ESPN do w tvs
Does anyone else notice the interviews in the garage look VERY dark? I can't see the driver's faces. I'm watching on a standard def tv so that might have something to do with it but still...
ReplyDeleteDoes anybody know what happened to the cut away cars? JD do you know? After all, you are the man in the know these days.
ReplyDeleteWell there is only ONE way JD will allow me to post the rest of this race (and not censor me)
ReplyDeleteBourbon.
It's early but what the heck. I'don't have throat to yell at tv, no gun for Elvis the tv moment (My housemate's tv is too nice anyway at 52 inches)
But this is just pitiful, pitiful, pitiful as Granny Clampett used to say.
Off to meet Evan Williams in the Kitchen.
I have a question...if a team DOES run out of tires (Chad Knaus saying they're going to be out of tires before halfway!) will they be able to get tires from a teammate or another team?
ReplyDeleteGreat... the one time I pick Horsey-Face in my fantasy lineup, and he gets taken out...
ReplyDeleteJoy is all over the place today.
ReplyDeletewelp, can't wait to see what Cuz Carl has in store for Shrub.
ReplyDeleteSally asked:
ReplyDelete"Wonder if BZF is thrilled with his new point system now?"
Answer: Yes, and he believes the Chase is wildly popular.
Next question?
the 24's radio must be out. All I'm hearing is a clicking noise. I'm told he wasn't in this last wreck - thank goodness. Bad enough that he was in the first one because people are driving like a bunch of morons.
ReplyDeletematt the brat may think he left plenty of room, but he sure was sliding up the track into the 83. Maybe not on purpose like Vickers thought, but still definitely not a lot of room
Maybe they will get rid of the commercial load during this red flag - it's been 5 minutes at least
ReplyDelete@Sally...I don't think BZF really cares. With today's TV coverage and the new points system, I don't think I care any more.
ReplyDeleteI have been a fan since 1959, but my fanaticism has been significantly reduced since the "top-35 rule". That is really what started the decline of the sport.
Where r the updates on the drivers that wrecked? Instead more commercials and pushing next weeks race! DISGUSTING!!!
Did Mike Joy say that Carl Edwards will receive one point for his win??? What win? I even backed it up and listed to it three times.
ReplyDeleteSally,
ReplyDeleteI knew Brian France's dad Bill Jr.
If he was still with us he would be so mad at what is happening in the Sport he would probably threaten to shut it down.
He would most certainly do whatever it took to fix it and whatever he could do would work.
He passed in 2007.
If you noticed it's been going down hill since then.
Amazing man.
You know I really thought that I could never be more confused about what is going on at the track after last years coverage. Boy was I wrong!! The Fox crew used to be the best in the business but in my opinion they are off their game and not anywhere close to what they used to be.
ReplyDeleteDid they pit? What is going on?
ReplyDeleteWayne said,Fox just did a Vegas promo and used the UNFORTUNATE Boogity thing with DW screaming, What make them think we like that sort of thing. They are obviously not paying attention to us viewers.
ReplyDeleteSprint... Digger...pizza hut... Evo 4G...FOX how I hate u!
ReplyDeleteI am about ready to turn off the TV and watch Foxtrax for current race positions.
ReplyDeleteI think Joy meant winning the pole? I hope
ReplyDeleteAnon 4:23 -- yes, he did say that. I didn't understand it either since as far as I know, Edwards didn't win Daytona.
ReplyDeleteSee GinaV24: who dat at d front?
ReplyDeleteOK, now the 24 really does have the lead!
ReplyDeleteIf NASCAR.com would only fix whatever is wrong with his radio, I'd be really happy. I switched to the MRN feed on trackpass since clicking on the 24 radio didn't help me any.
@racing fool...The biggest difference was that the 2 Bills loved racing. BZF loves money. Huge difference.
ReplyDeleteI know, Ancient -- I'm so excited. if this was only the last lap of the race I'd been even happier!
ReplyDeletehad tv on for minute.
ReplyDeleteWHEREs the annoying/confusing NFL music? Don't want to listen to that all year for baseball either..
I love how during the first wreck, that completely ignored whatever damage 24 picked up, now that's he's leading, it's like they completely forgot he was involved in a wreck I'd like a follow-up of how he managed to get lucky in that first wreck and still have a competitive car, from the replay, I thought he'd be going behind the wall.
ReplyDeleteFOx is really dropping the ball today
After the long commercial fest we just endured - more commercials?!?
ReplyDeleteReally
JGordon problem..debris on the grill, got it off w car in front so avoided pit stop
ReplyDeletePer MRN!! :) yay
"Larry Mac - phone call for you from Tim Brewer"
ReplyDelete"Hey Tim. What's that? Remind the viewers that sticker tires mean new tires? Will do..."
MRN says 24 has debris on grill gonna try and get it off under green
ReplyDelete@Joyjaye
ReplyDelete"After the long commercial fest we just endured - more commercials?!?
Really"
Yep. Rupert is broke. Hard times for Rupert
Sorry took me to long to post
ReplyDeleteGordon's radio still not audible via trackpass! I even rebooted. Sometimes I hate nascar.com
ReplyDeleteAnon -- I agree, Fox completely ignored the 24 car when they were working on it after the wreck. Apparently the car hit 'square' against the wall so they were able to just clear the fenders and put new tires on it. how well it will drive for the rest of the race, who knows? But at least he's not behind the wall!
