TV Viewing: Hall Of Fame Induction On SPEED
The NASCAR Hall of Fame is still pretty new in terms of pro sports facilities. The staff is very user-friendly for TV and radio. Tonight on SPEED the network will package the induction ceremony for airing.
The actual function inside the Hall is not a made-for-TV affair. The activity begins at 7PM and will be time-shifted by SPEED. That allows the network to make TV segments out of the speeches and tributes. Basically, SPEED will be taking something not designed to be on TV and crafting a program on the fly.
Bud Moore is a spicy character, Ned Jarrett is a gentlemen, Bobby Allison is a tragic figure, David Pearson defines old school and Lee Petty created a dynasty. It's a tremendously diverse group of individuals going into the Hall of Fame.
Mike Joy is the show host with Krisa Voda handling the reporting duties. The program will feature the inductees, their families and many NASCAR dignitaries.
This show is basically a stage production of the NASCAR Media Group with TV along for the ride. SPEED will air a special edition of Race Hub after the induction at 10:30PM.

slightly off topic, but has everyone seen this year's documentaries? I've seen all but one so far, and thought they were very well done (again.) The way they were done with a theme; just thought it was clever. Hard for the stories *not* to be interesting (especially Moore's), but still, they were well put together.
ReplyDeleteThat is what the NMG is best at because their top exec came from NFL films.
ReplyDeleteDrama, footage and music is what they are all about!
It felt like a person who knew nothing about racing would still enjoy them and find these guys interesting.
ReplyDeleteAllison's was tough to watch, but I was sorta prepared for that.
Glen, I have always hoped that NMG would be able to breakthrough and get those types of shows on other cable networks.
ReplyDeleteJust has not panned out.
History Channel is too busy showing pawn shops...
ReplyDeleteJD,I'd love to have them on DVD - I would collect those stories if they were available.
ReplyDeleteI have a bunch of books about various drivers - including Bobby Allison, but seeing the footage makes it even better.
I don't think I'd ever seen video footage of Clifford Allison before.
ReplyDeleteBud was talking a little fast, but I think I got most of it. Glad he did it his way.
ReplyDeleteGlen,
ReplyDeleteBuf is one of those guys that just looks at you and you think "I might just be doing what this guy wants me to do right now."
That's a tough hombre.
sometimes I think the best heroes are the 'accidental' kind.
ReplyDeletewoo, I changed my name, lol.
ReplyDeletethat really was me, I just got google mail and I think it somehow signed me in.
ReplyDeleteEnjoying the Petty grandsons.
Glen, are you having multiple personalities? Maybe we should just call you Sybil? (joking)
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed Bud Moore and the story of the Allison's always makes me cry.
Tuned in late as Ned was being inducted. Plan to catch the earlier portion on repeat of program.
ReplyDeleteKrista - Wow!!!
Haven't seen all of bio documentaries but plan to.
Side note - due to all bad weather yesterday and tv station going to all weather, even though race was in Iowa, we were unable to see the last half or end of race - glad can catch it later on Speed's replay.
Thanks to Speed for all it makes available to fans.
Marsha - Iowa
Watching Bobby Allison all I can really think of is how when I was small his friend Red Farmer had a car dealership in Mobile, AL. I do not remember what brand. I do remember the TV ads though; best darn TV ads for a car dealer ever becaue I still remember the tag line. Ad would open showing the dealership with the "Red Farmer" sign above the showroom windows, and Red would come on as the voiceover and would, essentially, yell, "Mt. Car Buyer! Mr. Car Buyer!" I will never get that out of my head and that is why it was such a good ad. Must be nearly 50 years ago. :)
ReplyDeleteI hope David isn't too nervous.
ReplyDeleteI saw Bobby a few years ago at a book signing...I didn't know he was going to be there, and I didn't know they were taking questions, but I could kick myself for not thinking of something to ask. It was his birthday so we sang to him. I was at the store next door, and there was a car parked there painted in his colors, and then I remembered he was signing books that day. The guys with the car had driven 8 hours from Vermont or someplace. They let them go first. Just a cool memory.
Glen, I have always hoped that NMG would be able to breakthrough and get those types of shows on other cable networks.
ReplyDeleteJust has not panned out.
*NMG has gotten this type of storytelling on other networks. CMT(Dale), Showtime (Petty Blue) ESPN (30 FOR 30, Wendell Scott) to name a few
I'm glad all these five got in, and elated that one did not. Bud Moore probably did more with what he had than any other owner in NASCAR. And when Ned was driving, I don't remember anyone saying anything bad about him. What a gentleman, kind of like Mark Martin. These guys are role models personified.
ReplyDeleteOur cable was out last night & still today. Will this HOF be repeated this week?
ReplyDeleteWaiting on TW guys to get here & see what happened. Tvs come on but no signal on the box or on the tvs w/o digital cable. STRANGE.
WANTED to see the older guys :( Hope the repeat isn't heavily edited.
Sophia w log in issues again
I missed a lot of the program with lengthy phone calls - just couldn't say to a good friend in distress or an aged cousin "I'll call you back tomorrow, I'm watching the NASCAR Hall of Fame." And, ran too late for this working person. But really enjoyed what I saw, and hope I can catch the re-runs. I agree with all those who said they wished SPEED/NMG would get more programs like this - and the biographies that were aired in the weeks before - on more channels more often.
ReplyDeleteSophia & Marylee, re-air is supposed to be Friday at 4pm...can't say about the editing (since it's not live, it's sort of already edited, but they might chop more...)
ReplyDeleteI never watch award shows or induction ceremonies on tv, so I don't know whether it was interesting or not. I'd rather watch a repeat of the 2005 WSOP than that induction ceremony!
