Live Blogging Camping World Trucks From Texas (SPEED - 8:30PM)

Here we go with a stand-alone truck race from the Texas Motor Speedway. This week, the trucks are racing with the IndyCar Series although Danica is not doing the doubleheader.

It's a smaller field of 35 trucks, so everyone who towed all the way to Dallas made the race. There are no big Sprint Cup Series names, so it could be a very different kind of TV event.

Rick Allen will call the race with Phil Parsons while Michael Waltrip is in Le Mans preparing for this big 24 hour race that can be seen on SPEED Saturday morning. Ray Dunlap and Hermie Sadler are patrolling pit road.

This is a production of SPEED's truck series team, so expect a solid telecast with good pictures and a focus on the racing. This TV team is still trying to figure out how to include social media in the telecast. Sadler and Dunlap updated on Twitter from the pits and Allen sends tweets in the commercials during the race. It's a start.

This post will serve to host your comments about the coverage of the race by SPEED. To add your TV-related opinion, just click on the comments button below. Thanks for taking the time to stop by The Daly Planet.

  1. Looks like no RaceBuddy tonight. Can't find a link on NASCAR.com!

  2. Yea, RaceBuddy is up at NASCAR.com after all.

  3. First weekend of the year that the Trucks and Cup are racing at separate tracks. Will probably have quite a few S&Ps...but I think this will be the first race where the series takes on its identity for the season. And enjoy the trucks tonight....be 4 weeks until we see them again. Wasn't long ago the trucks would race every weekend in June.

  4. Good point about the Twiitering (or whatver you hip peeps call it) from the Speed Crew.
I see that a great application of it meshed into a broadcast will be upcoming on one of the talent Shows. I believe it's called The Voice. They have integrated Social Media into the next Live shows in a very creative way. Maybe TV can take some lessons from it.

  5. The last few times RaceBuddy would not work on Firefox but today I tried it and it is working on FF.

  6. Thanks for that update Charlie! I have been hitting them with a pretty big stick on that stuff.

    Now, iPad is next!

    ReplyDelete
  7. I know hes only 14, but do we really need all the vocal flourishes when he cant even hit the notes?

    ReplyDelete
  8. I know, but at least he missed that god-awful anthem....:(

    ReplyDelete
  9. Francis Scott Key loved that one.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Better than The Hoff! Foghat! ETC....

    ReplyDelete
  11. I knew someone was going to say it Pamm. Sometimes Mike is quite good on the broadcasts, but...it can also go the other way. DW was annoying me on Trackside.

Anyone buying Kyle's 'congratulatory' tap? Hey, it is a 'Kyle free' race too....
I missed the anthem. Well, I didn't hear it, I guess I wasn't missing much...

    ReplyDelete
  12. glen, they blew it on Trackside. Should have kept Larry with Jeff and let DW take a walk.

He never preps and his questions are just worthless! That show used to rock.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Happy Pick 'em Ups Racin' Planeteers <3

Yes Pammmmmm just the Allen Parsons Project tonight :). I'm still in Anthem protest so didn't hear it

    ReplyDelete
  14. Where are the Wallaces and Waltrips? This is so wrong!

    ReplyDelete
  15. Full screen replays have got to go.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Dem cats is in hot rods.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Missed the restart...

    ReplyDelete
  18. DW going on about why he had to ask the family questions was just nonsense. As were the family questions.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Tell ya what, that Steven Wallace kid is moving through the field!

    ReplyDelete
  20. whoa, missed the restart!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Missed restart - unnaceptable

    ReplyDelete
  22. That was not very good, especially for this TV team!

    ReplyDelete
  23. So far to many in-car cam shots during passes. I can see the pass better with a wide shot.

    ReplyDelete
  24. No it wasn't JD :(

    ReplyDelete
  25. This ticker is too fast and unreadable

    ReplyDelete
  26. Surprised by that missed restart. Also, Rick Allen is speaking very fast so far.

    ReplyDelete
  27. It would be nice to see more Fords and "Ram Trucks" in these races.

    ReplyDelete
  28. The gadget-cams have certainly screwed up way too many telecasts in the last ten years and the end is not in sight.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Do people really think Hermit Sadler is good?

    ReplyDelete
  30. What did Rick Allen do before trucks?

    ReplyDelete
  31. I don't have nearly as many issues with the performance of the Sadlers on television as I do many others who mysteriously remain employed in broadcasting.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I think Rick did Nebraska Cornhusker Football

    ReplyDelete
  33. I like Sadler. I admit it's an odd style. He almost shouts & you think he's not gonna get the words out but he does, and he gets it all in right.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Missed Pit Stops???????????????

    ReplyDelete
  35. Were those pit stops tape delayed?

    ReplyDelete
  36. Speed didn't so much do it there, but it cracks me when they miss a restart and they come back from commercial as they're crossing the start/finish line a lap later, and they try to sell that as being the restart....even though you can clearly see the vehicles have become spread apart from that 1 lap of green flag racing.

    ReplyDelete
  37. David Hill's fingerprints are beginning to show on Speed's productions.

    ReplyDelete
  38. This Broadcast Is a disaster!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Hey! TMS is using a fire truck for the pace car:-)

    ReplyDelete
  40. Lot of On Boards

    ReplyDelete
  41. Is it me, or Hermie can't seem to string two thoughts together during his pit reports. It's too choppy for my liking.

    ReplyDelete
  42. This feels like a tape delay broadcast. Missed restarts, pit stops, follow the leader.

    ReplyDelete
  43. So what is going on. They stopped the ticker on top of the screen and all they are doing is following just the 1st place truck for over 4 laps.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Some weird choices tonight! Maybe I jinxed them!

    ReplyDelete
  45. Not their best work.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Somebody tweet Speed quick. I've heard of technical difficulties but this is something special...and not in a good way.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Sure sounds like the commentary team isn't aware that what they're watching isn't getting switched onto the broadcast. Back to hockey!

    ReplyDelete
  48. Some technical difficulties for sure. Hope they get it fixed!

    ReplyDelete
  49. I'm wondering if they are having equipment problems. They can't see replays, they can't show more than Dillon. Rick and Phil don't seem to notice.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Would someone please tell poor Phil that the action he's describing is NOT being replayed on the screen? Talk about being hung out...

    ReplyDelete
  51. Not sure what is going on but the technical and production problems are really over the top tonight.

    ReplyDelete
  52. This is awful. They must have a some technical issues. If they can't fix it soon I'm changing it. No point in watching the Austin Dillon show.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Funny ... there may not be a lot of fans in the stands - but for those trying to watch the race - there are lots of complaints! :)

    ReplyDelete
  54. Forgot trucks were on..every time I turn race on either commercial or just see 1 or 2 trucks on the tv? Or in car cam :(

Did anybody get the latest NASCAR Council deal? Mine asked LOTS of questions about camera angles and I gave my opinion in the box that the lousy camera work has chased me away except for the last 10 laps, maybe of a race on DVR. I watched 4 races live this year.

Sad to read here the SPEED races are getting junked up by D Hill :(

I am listening to Red's pre game & will watch that over racing now (SO WEIRD to say that...)

Actually I mute tv & listen to game on radio...Wish I had terrestial tv for racing. Listening on the laptop is a pain.

I remember when the truck races were THE BEST! p.s. Council also asked about the busy, clustered, difficult to read ticker. Impossible on my SD 33 inch tv...that should not BE.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Why is there a delay in posting?

    ReplyDelete
  56. Guess we'll never know what happened to Ickler and Bodine earlier.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Sorry folks, had to moderate comments tonight. Have someone who has big personal problems with us again.

It's such an incredible waste of time to come here and try to disrupt a group of fans just trying to watch a race.

Still makes little sense to me.

Well, takes all kinds to make a world I guess.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Asked SPEED about the problem. Had a technical glitch in the actual video switcher.

    Fixed it...hopefully!

    ReplyDelete
  59. YAY see this is why Twitter is good. TV didn't know there were issues coming through..we tweet Rick & he let TPTB know & they fixed it :)

    ReplyDelete
  60. JD, between your nuisance here and the mystery caution, I was starting to think I was watching from the Twilight Zone!

    ReplyDelete
  61. Seriously considering closing down chat for the season and just sticking with Twitter and Facebook.

    We will see!

    ReplyDelete
  62. The ticker is faster for this race. A few races ago it took 4 laps to go through a cycle, then they sped the ticker up and it was around 3 laps. Now the ticker is doing a cycle in about 2 laps.

I think it is a bit to fast now.

    ReplyDelete
  63. I am missing Krista Voda tonight. She does a great job for SPEED, especially with the setup.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Well that is twice now the RaceBuddy in-truck 2 has been in a wreck.
Todd Bodine and now Austin Dillon.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Caught that wreck on RaceBuddy before tv. Very neat program!

It would be a disappointment if you did close the live blogs for the season JD.

    ReplyDelete
  66. JD, at least personally for me that would effectively eliminate me. I left Facebook for a number of reasons, mainly spam oops and an internet stalker.

I also find Twitter as worthless in social media. Shutting this down you don't help me comment at all as I will have nowhere to comment.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Finally get our 3rd caution replay, to some degree.

    ReplyDelete
  68. It's just a pretty amazing statement about someone's life that they get meaning from abusing others and hateful speech.

    Really creepy stalker stuff. Yech.

    ReplyDelete
  69. However JD, popularity does come at a price. I understand how you feel believe me.

    ReplyDelete
  70. The leader board with RaceBuddy will be a nice addition for Sundays race.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Well, even though you cannot spell to save your life, it's just annoying.

I'm an adult and your posts are just teen spam. The problem is I have a lot of other things going on as well.

    Going to have to prioritize.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Agree Charlie, it would be a great addition.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Adam, I get over ten thousand pageviews a day on the weekends and it's a hassle.

Moving to a Wordpress theme would create a membership and allow for banning, but it's just fun for me and not a business so I have not made up my mind.

I have a fulltime career, a media consulting company and TDP. Keeps me hopping!

    ReplyDelete
  74. I have to commend Ryan Sieg for that restart. He pulled that off like a veteran racer. Give this kid adequate equipment, he might be a threat to win races.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Wow, I'm loving RaceBuddy tonight! No commercials, no replays, very little multi-tasking necessary.

    ReplyDelete
  76. This is great without the Cuppers.

Tim Andrews and Clay Greenfield deserve a shoutout. Andrews is running very well after a tough week. Greenfield is putting in a good effort despite no sponsorship. Could have taken the easy route and parked for a check.

    ReplyDelete
  77. One glitch and a missed restart, but all in all a pretty solid telecast.

    ReplyDelete
  78. I think Speed is putting on a good show. They tell you where drivers are and why. Good camera work.

    ReplyDelete
  79. If that would've been Marty Reid, he would've been calling Sauter the winner to the checkered flag.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Rough first 50 laps for SPEED. But the commercials, camera shots, replays and commentary mixed perfectly for the remained of the broadcast.

    ReplyDelete
  81. This would have been a good race for a new viewer to see.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Well that was an interesting finish! Great effort Hermie in that interview. You could read what Johnny was thinking!

    Congratulations to Grampa!

    ReplyDelete
  83. Good night folks! Sorry about the hassles. Just a little real world peeking in.

    ReplyDelete
  84. We were at the track on Saturday night and to tell you the truth, the anthem was awful! Enjoyed the truck race til our David Starr crashed out. Not as many fans in the stands as we've seen at previous racesm, however the red necks were out after the race! Had trouble getting into Houston with wrecks but we're home for the weekend. We were sitting at the start/finish line and knew Sauter would be black flagged so he shouldn't be surprised.

    ReplyDelete
  85. I'm sorry we were at the truck race on Friday night.
