Live Blogging Camping World Trucks From Atlanta (SPEED - 7:30PM ET)

It's a night time tripleheader this holiday weekend from the Atlanta Motor Speedway. Tonight it's the Camping World Trucks kicking off the racing action. Ricky Carmichael is on the pole.

SPEED has it's own production team for these races and the vibe is old school. Atlanta's high speeds should leave only a handful of trucks actually running for the win, so it's going to be a challenge to keep it interesting from start to finish.

The trucks are in a tough spot these days with sponsorship and the start and park contingent for high speed races like this has been large. Keep an eye on who leaves the track in the early going and how SPEED decides to relate those facts on the air.

Krista Voda hosts the pre-race show. Rick Allen, Micheal Waltrip and Phil Parsons will call the race. Hermie Sadler and Ray Dunlap will report from pit road.

This post will serve to host your comments on the SPEED coverage of the Camping World Truck Series race from Atlanta. To add your TV-related comments, just click on the comments button below. Thanks for stopping by.

  1. Not watching because i refuse to support NASCAR, a money hungry dictatorship.

I'm listening to a high school football game instead.

  2. Hehe....that's funny. It's all about the Benjamins for sure these days!

    ReplyDelete
  3. Yay for Ricky C finally getting his first pole. Three Cup drivers though, I don't know if he'll be getting his first win. Of course tomorrow won't be much better.

  4. Happy Pick 'em Ups Racin' Night Planeteers <3

Very proud of Ricky getting a pole! Hope he has some good luck tonight :) <3

  5. Congrats to the GOAT for the pole, this should be fun if MW stays under control, getting tired of his act this late in the year.

    ReplyDelete
  6. S&P's should be at a low tonight. I'm guessing there will only be 3.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Is race buddy going to be available for this truck race?

    ReplyDelete
  8. hi folks, just realized there might be a truck race on tonight - sorry JD, I know you have the schedule up but sometimes I forget what day it is!

I hope that Mikey has a rev limiter on his tongue tonight.

  9. Gina > you are a gas, good evening to you

  10. Lots of folks wondering which MW will show up tonight.

Already got some grief for the blouse Krista is wearing.

Yes, TruckBuddy should be up and running at NASCAR.com tonight.

Thanks for the S&P info, great news.

Lots of *&^%$ going on at SPEED right now, going to be fun weekend.

    JD

  11. Gina, judging from quals, he's going to be hitting the chip all night.

  12. It is interesting, I'm not watching the pre-race, but how much coverage on the fact that Ron Hornaday has been asked to look for a new ride for 2012? It seems like something so high-profile isn't, when Todd Bodine's was.

I also want to say something based on glenc's comments last week about putting the series out of its misery. Where do you put the rejuvenation of Johnny Sauter's career, Joey Coulter, Timothy Peters, Nelson Piquet Jr, Ricky Carmichael, etc. Unless you want to let more people into races in the Nationwide Series, I don't think it will happen.

  13. Kyle Busch, Johnny Sauter in-truck cams tonight.

  14. A little off topic, but

  15. Very likely announcement for a Truck Race, yes.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Kyle Busch was one of the trucks on race buddy last week but you could not hear him talk. Wonder if we will hear him tonight.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Real nice National Anthem, done well guys!

    ReplyDelete
  18. It would be great to have races at The Rock again! With so many tracks closing down, Nascar has to come back to some of 'the ones that brung 'em'. Karma.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Anthem was amazing. Now I wish we had more male choirs doing this. :)

    ReplyDelete
  20. Time to make the donuts! Be nice to see Ricky C. get a win in primetime on national TV. The series could use the pub too!

    ReplyDelete
  21. It would be nice to see a first time winner period, Ricky C, Cole Whitt, James Buescher, Nelson Piquet Jr., Miguel Paludo, Parker Kligerman all stand good shots here.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Yeah Cole Whitt & Klingerman!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Lots of *&^%$ going on at SPEED right now, going to be fun weekend.

Care to expand on that comment John?

    ReplyDelete
  24. James and Sally, LOL, I just can't help it. there are times when I think the guys in the booth should keep a roll of duct tape in there and use it when necessary.

Of course IMO that applies to DW AND Rusty, too!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Hey JD

Did you hear that Jimmie snubbed the White House.

    ReplyDelete
  26. John, lots of hot tempers over moving RaceHub out of primetime from 7PM to 6PM and ending the West Coast airing. No clue where that order came from...

No response from SPEED about why the new "reporter" on Trackside with no NASCAR experience being added in the middle of the season.

Rutledge Wood is hosting Trackside with Kyle Petty and Jeff Hammond. Let me say that again, Rut is hosting.

Like I said, LOTs of ^&&***!

    ReplyDelete
  27. And the cheaters already 1st and 2nd, at least Newman is slower tonight.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Notice they only show the wide shots on the turns where there are no people

    ReplyDelete
  29. All that snubbed the White House stuff is made up. I watched Mike Mulhern work that last night online.

Every year the sports goes for a photo op before the Chase. This year the date did not work for a couple of the guys invited.

No problem from NASCAR. No problem from the White House. The drivers involved are saying "Where did this issue come from?"

The answer is Mike Mulhern made it up. Has nothing to do with politics, hardcore Republican DW went last year for the photo op!

    How weird is that?

    ReplyDelete
  30. I really don't understand the fascination with Rutledge. I don't see that he adds much to the broadcast. Not a bad guy, just...not necessary.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Jimmie is going to the white house, SBTF.

Kevin Harvick, Tony Stewart, Greg Biffle and Carl Edwards are the 4 not going.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Has there ever been a Truck race at Rockingham?

    ReplyDelete
  33. WHY?????

Like the previous weeks, 1 by 1, truck drivers fall out of the running and leave the cheaters out of trouble.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Dern, needed a caution but not Cole Whitt!

    ReplyDelete
  35. ...........

now Peters. I swear, something is going on.

    ReplyDelete
  36. What a lousy pit stop for the 4

    ReplyDelete
  37. Rut is hosting TS? Wow, well that doesn't encourage me to watch the show.

No offense but shouldn't the people in the white house be doing somehting other than posing with athletes?

I too would like to see a winner from one of the regulars - ie not a sprint cup driver slumming.

    ReplyDelete
  38. So let’s just dream a minute as to what brought on these changes at Speed.
There's a new boss there and she's supposed to know the sport at least one would think so.
The new manager has a high powered meeting with the middle managers and says something like , people we need ideas, we NEED to liven Speeed up we Need, we need.
So now we have a bunch of middle managers running around gathering numbers. It’s in the numbers, they speak for themselves, demographics.
And they dutifully have another power meeting with graphs, pie charts and Job Justifyers pointing and posturing and making themselves look intelligent and important.
So now here we are, the numbers say this and that Bla, Bla Bla.
    Managers canceled RPM2Night.
    Managers justifying their jobs.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Gina, the new SPEED types have been messing with it.

Remember they dumped Larry Mac this season, then Byrnsey went in studio so they had to rotate hosts.

    Basically, it's a mess.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Thank you Editor for posting the real source of the issue on the white house visit.

Mulhern worked people up in a fever real quick. People can be so gullible. Unfortunately other press steams are picking up the non story. Reading the comments after the articles do not help our sport look any better.

    ReplyDelete
  41. More full screen replays! ARGH! PLEASE show the live racing in a smaller pic in pic? Please?

    ReplyDelete
  42. 17? Looks like a 7 to me

    ReplyDelete
  43. What's up with the ticker on top of the screen. Unless I'm watching on my 42 inch screen it's impossible to read. TNT and ESPN have very visible scrolls so why does SPEED continue to use this tiny, barely visible running order. I've seen this complaint before but SPEED continues to ignore it. Oh well what else would you expect from a network that gives us Michael Waltrip.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Another NASCAR decision catering to Kyle. M&M's money again?

    ReplyDelete
  45. It looks like there are few folks in the seats. These guys in the booth are dummies, no wonder Speed is putting on another new girl.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Anon, it's the FOX graphics package that we complained about sooooo much.

Those colors on the top ticker are awful, but the SPEED guys can't change them.

    Bummer.

    ReplyDelete
  47. JD, IMO they first started messing with it when they gave DW carte blanche to take over every show. I like DW when he isn't in hyper mode.

Rut and Kenny the Klown are useless to me so I choose not to watch.

Steve and Krista are the only hosts for trackside that I enjoy. they are fun without being stupid.

Oh well, I'm the wrong demographic for Speed anyway so they don't care about what I want to watch as is evident by the programming choices they've made.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Cup 1-2-3, unless all three wreck, its over.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Oh Gotcha

I saw the snub on Vince's twitter account.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Nothing against KW, but I can't see him hanging on much longer. Kind of like Jimmy Spencer in that last year, he is out of place.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I hate Cup drivers racing in anything lower than Cup, but the battle between the 2 and the 18 has been really exciting to watch. Its going to end with one of them in the wall im sure. I hope its both so a regular can win.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Here we go, getting dizzy with this dummy camera work

    ReplyDelete
  53. Josh Richards = Future Truck Star. If he was in the #18 every week, I'd be very happy.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Bruton must have slipped Rick a few bucks before tonights broadcast

    ReplyDelete
  55. real debris hits the track and they wait on throwing the caution.

    ReplyDelete
  56. For the first time in a long, long time,I'm not really watching the Truck race. I'm going back and forth between SPEED and ESPN.

Mikey and Hannah Storm both hitting the chip so often, it drove me straight to the snack shelf in the pantry.

I am seriously over the limit; but, don't worry, I'm not driving tonight!

    Sugar cookie anyone? :)

    ReplyDelete
  57. Weird for me that MW can run so hot and then so cold. I muted it for a bit, sorry. Can't take it.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I just went to the kitchen during a restart and it didn't bother me.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Roland, i agree it was an exciting battle to watch. However as you also said, they shouldn't be in this series on a regular basis, so I am hoping that they will manage to bump each other into having wrecked trucks so one of the regulars win.

    ReplyDelete
  60. :| I feel like the outlier who can ignore the camera angles and pain in the necks in the booth. It's not NASCAR to mute the TV.

    ReplyDelete
  61. I must be immune to the talking heads. I mentioned before listening to Jackie Stewart call out Cale Yarborough with both hands holding the left side of the steering wheel at Daytona.
But the best was the Indianapolis 500 having to listen to Bobby Unser and Sam Posey argue for three and a half hours.
    I just tune them out.
We’re going to have a good finish with mixed up fuel stops.
    Good race tonight.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Nice the way SPEED has kept us looking at the best racing, not just the leader.

Stewart also called out Neil Bonnett one year at Pocono when Neil was in the 21 car.The Wood Brothers had a nice chat with Mr. Stewart the following week to straighten him out.

  65. Man, I wish we had RaceBuddy for the NNS and Cup races.

    ReplyDelete
  66. The question is - Do college students like Race Buddy.

    ReplyDelete
  67. my 22 yr old daughter at UNC Charlotte does

    ReplyDelete
  68. Have to agree with you JD on KW.Both he and Spencer should have been put out to pasture many years ago. I think poor Kenny means well but he's just so overbearing. Spencer would like to be funny but he's just boring.

    ReplyDelete
  69. OK, i don't usually like fuel mileage races, but I DO like having a truck series regular win it!

    ReplyDelete
  70. Hey! They stayed on the finish line!

    ReplyDelete
  71. At least a Truck regular won! Even if it was a KHI truck

    ReplyDelete
  72. Well, we saw it and it worked out on TV.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Weird angle to show the finish line.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Growing up, my favorite driver was Ron Hornaday. That would be Ron Hornaday SR!

    ReplyDelete
  75. Charlie, we are trying to get the networks to show the winner crossing the line and then go back and follow the other lead lap cars as they battle for the finish.

On a big track like this, that would have been perfect. They still don't quite get the fact that when the leader crosses the line, the race is not over.

    ReplyDelete
  76. A Ron Sr. mention! That sums up our TDP demographic!

    ReplyDelete
  77. Stayed on SPEED for the last 30 laps. Great to see Hornaday win!

Wishing everyone a safe and fun holiday weekend!

    As always, thanks JD.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Ryan McGee from ESPN just said it's trucks coming back to the Rock. Nice.

    ReplyDelete
  79. I get to walk out tonight with vindication. :)

Congrats to Ron, who might be a free agent in 2012.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Yea, love to know what the heck KHI is going to do next year.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Personally, let Ron and Nelson keep their rides, and give the #2 to David Mayhew permanently.

If Kevin and Delana need extra funding, go look to Childress, who will probably have Coulter and Ty Dillon.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Thanks for stopping by everyone! See you tomorrow night for NNS. TV schedule on front page.

    Have a great night!
