Live Blogging Sprint Cup Series From Chicagoland (ESPN - 1PM ET)
The switch in race dates for Chicagoland Speedway chased away the hot temps, but brought the cold and rain of mid-September. It has been raining at the track since the early morning and right now all activity is on hold.
If weather permits, NASCAR goes through the motions of the opening ceremonies without pushing the cars out of the garage and onto the grid. Once the flyover is done, NASCAR officially puts the race on hold if the track is still wet.
The big Chicagoland Speedway takes 90 minutes to dry if the sun is out and around 2 hours if the weather continues to be overcast and cold. Right now, reporters from the track are saying it will be a long weather hold.
ESPN has Nicole Briscoe anchoring from the Infield Pit Studio. The network pretty much used most of the edited features during the last rain delay in Atlanta. Briscoe has Rusty Wallace and Brad Daugherty alongside. It will be interesting to see if Wallace addresses the rumor that his current 5 Hour Energy sponsor is leaving for the Cup Series with Clint Bowyer and MWR.
Allen Bestwick is always optimistic and he has Dale Jarrett and Andy Petree alongside in the TV booth. During Saturday's Nationwide Series race, neither Petree or Jarrett lifted a finger to help announcer Marty Reid. Jarrett was dry as toast and Petree spoke in general terms, clearly focused on the Cup race.
It should be interesting to see if Jarrett and Petree rise to the occasion of this first Chase race and help Bestwick make it a memorable telecast. This is the first time for Bestwick in this position and it is very clear he wants to make his mark.
ESPN is clear on the schedule today until 8PM, when live Major League Baseball is scheduled. The NASCAR TV contract requires live TV coverage from the green to checkered flag, but not during rain delays. ESPN could be free to leave and then return if the action is delayed until the track lights go on.
We will continue to update the weather delays on this post and in the comments section. We invite your opinions on the TV coverage today, just click the comments button below. Thanks for taking the time to stop by.
Time to bring Mikey Waltrip into the Infield Pit Studio to discuss his new team. Maybe R. Wallace can do the Q & A ?
ReplyDeleteDid you catch the Indy race last night? I watched it on tape this morning, and the announcing crew was repeatedly openly critical of the race director. There were also so tired and punch drunk that they spent a lot of time giggling at each other.
ReplyDeleteI live about an hour and a half from the track, and it is still a light rain falling, and just looking at radar, it isn't looking good. Hope they can get the track dry soon!
ReplyDeleteWhy does the media keep on saying that Kyle Busch is going into the chase leading but he and Kevin Harvick have the same points? I feel soooooo sorry for the 13th place and below placed teams I wonder if we'll ever see them today (if it stops raining) maybe when one of the chase drivers is passing them.
ReplyDeletePLEASE PLEASE talk about something besides the Menard spin from last week! We are SO TIRED of hearing it over and over on every Nascar show on radio & tv!
ReplyDeleteIndycar coverage was pretty bad, but the race was terrible, so they had to entertain themselves. :)
ReplyDeleteNo way this race happens today. Glad I work from home so it's no problem seeing it during the week.
ReplyDeleteSprint marketing people cringing.
ReplyDeleteChris Berman just read a promo card for Nascar Sprint Cup from Chicagoland while the on-screen display said "SportCenter presented by Verizon"
Why start a pre-race show at the same time of the NFL early kickoffs? You already lost the non die-hard audience.
ReplyDeleteNASCAR VP of Operations Steve O'Donnell just said two hours to dry the track when the rain stops and it is still falling.
ReplyDeleteThat puts the earliest start time close to 3PM ET.
Vicky D: Busch is seeded first because he was higher in points.
ReplyDeleteThe media just can't let go of the Richmond spin deal. For some reason, they seem to think people care.
ReplyDeletei've not listened to any nascar tv this week hardly (except 5 minutes of trackside)
ReplyDeleteAfter the radio chatter just played there is no way that Menard caution was not ON purpose imo...pretty obvious from the talking. suprised NASCAR Powers that Be didn't see it that way.
Rain not looking good for today or this race.
They just gotta keep talking about the Menard spin. Too bad they aren't good enough at their jobs to find better news stories to cover in the 43 car garage. Every other show has talked it to death this week so of course they have to also! SHUT UP about it media!!!
ReplyDeleteThey played that audio chatter on SPEED all week. Now ESPN is saying they should get an Emmy for producing that.
ReplyDeleteToo bad it came from the NASCAR Media Group.
Has a track ever been dried in the timeframe NASCAR says it could?
ReplyDeleteUnrelated side note, but Chris Meyers is doing play-by-play for the redskins game on FOX
ReplyDeletewouldn't it be great to find out that someone recorded channel 2! I take it channel 2 can only be heard by the teams not the fans..
ReplyDeleteWatching the Green Bay Packers then golf for the FedEx cup.
ReplyDeleteHope it stops raining there soon. Plan "A" is to record the race but maybe it will be on later, under the lights and I will be able to watch it live.
Kenseth would rather watch the NFL than ESPN's pre-race show?
ReplyDeleteYou know its the Chase when they break out the Chad Knaus interviews. He gets more coverage during the chase than drivers outside of the chase.
ReplyDeleteChris Myers is doing the PXP on the Redskins game? Seriously?
ReplyDeleteWish someone would tell JJ it looks silly for him to have a girl walking beside him holding his umbrella. Ls
ReplyDeleteYes, sir. That is Chris Myers of the Hollywood hotel on the play-by-play at Fedex Field.
ReplyDeleteHey, Charlie, your Packers aren't looking too good against my Panthers. 10-0 after the turnover, and then 3 and out.
ReplyDeleteI've got the Rolex race on DVR for later.
Wow, what a promotion for Myers. He is truly FOX's golden boy.
ReplyDeleteTold rain continuing, earliest start time now 4PM.
ReplyDeleteI don't think espn or others have covered the menard spin enough. NASCAR seems to say unless you admit it you will not pay a price. Cheating in any sport should be penalized. The radio chatter is plenty proof. Why would a car stay on the track 80 laps down with what they say is a low tire?
ReplyDeleteThe fact that most reporters did not even take the time to listen to the radio until Friday says lot about them. Ls
Like others, I am also tired of hearing that about Paul Menard's spin and the reporters asking Brad K what it's like to be in the chase. Can't they think of any NEW questions?
ReplyDeleteI recall NASCAR penalizing junior for an intentional spin at bristol
ReplyDeleteJr not a good liar....he admitted it. Ls
ReplyDeleteYeah it appears Myers has worked he way into a permanent booth spot. Two weeks in a row.
ReplyDeleteLoved the tv stuff from motegi last night. I like it when the guys in the booth are having fun and, let us in on the joke.
Bottom line is if there was no pitstop after the spin, it might be different.
ReplyDeleteBut nothing gauranteed that Harvick would have the lead out of the pits.
So....the rest is moot.
"I recall NASCAR penalizing junior for an intentional spin at bristol"
ReplyDeleteHe admitted it.
Kyle Petty was pretty funny on RaceDay. Said he spun for the king all the time!
ReplyDeleteWhen I've seen Chris Meyers on the sidelines of football, I've always thought he was excellent - which is why I could never understand his stupid behavior on Nascar events. Don't have that game on my cable today so can't see how it looks.
ReplyDelete"Told rain continuing, earliest start time now 4PM."
ReplyDeleteTurning off the pre-race. Can't stand the idea of two more hours of Rusty and Brad show.
Without the pit stop though harvick had no chance this at least gave him a chance. Ls
ReplyDeleteJay, that is the point. FOX makes him act on the NASCAR races. It's just embarrassing.
ReplyDeleteNow with him doing other events on FOX fans know it's been total BS all these years in the Hollywood Hotel.
Agree, but giving a guy a chance is not going to get you a penalty.
ReplyDeleteJD....could agree with you on that but if done on purpose still should be a penalty. But anyway hope it stops raining and this race gets going. Ls
ReplyDeleteWeatherman just told me no chance for today. Problem is they are going to wait as late as possible.
ReplyDeleteTrack has lights and no curfew.
BOO on the rain. Ls

===================================
Just great. I can listen online if it gets postponed 'til tomorrow, but I can't follow RaceBuddy ... at least not if I don't wanna get yelled at at work.
NWS says 60% Monday morning, tapering off after lunch.
ReplyDeleteR.Wallace ran me out of watching the prerace so following what is happening here. Watching ALMS then then maybe some football
ReplyDeleteIt's clear in New Hampshire today.
ReplyDeleteHA! Good one, Al.
ReplyDeleteI had been outside doing yard work until the race was ready to start since avoiding all pre-race shows is part of my race routine - ugh, now i find a rain delay and there are rusty and brad babbling away.
ReplyDeletethanks for the update on the possible start time of 4 p.m., I'll go get some more outside work done or watch the Bears/Saints game.
So much for Brian France's brilliant idea to start the 10 race BS in Chicago.
If they keep going, they're going to turn JJ fans into JJ haters.
ReplyDeleteI was all ready to shave down some cocker spaniels while watching the race! figures it rains.
ReplyDeleteThey even race in the rain in New Hampshire.
ReplyDeleteOh wait ... that was a bad idea.
Rusty is rocking a Donald Trumpesque comb-over today.
ReplyDeleteNot a good look for TV.
Al, you should tweet that!
ReplyDeleteI'm with Becky, I might have a chance to listen to the race from work tomorrow but no way I can stream RB. The bandwidth police would be very angry.
Here comes Carl again. Ls
ReplyDeleteJet dryers have just been recalled. No racing until at least 5PM. Take a break folks, it's going to be a long one.
ReplyDeleteWill keep things updated right here.
JD
Just got home from church turned on the TV and saw an ad for Race Buddy. Is it free? It is not TNT time, so anybody know.
ReplyDeleteWhile I wait of course I'll go look
bad carl, don't show the radar
ReplyDeleteOMG I just read JD's comment 5pm. Dang. That is2 1/2 hours away. Golly.
ReplyDeleteI bet an Oprah rerun has better ratings than ESPN's pre-race and rain delay filler show.
ReplyDeleteAncient, yes, racebuddy is free. JD had a blog on how ESPN and turner finally got off the dime and worked out a deal.
ReplyDeleteCarl in the booth has me watching a marathon of 'Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives' on the Food Channel. Not good 'cuz that show makes me sooo hungry. But I can't handle Rusty & Brad. Throw Carl in the mix and they've got no chance to keep me watching.
ReplyDeleteHere we go Again.. Can they not find something else to talk about besides just keep re-hashing the same thing over&over..... POOR Journalism!!!!!
ReplyDeleteGina V/24
ReplyDeleteTHANKS!
Seems my vation put me way behind the curve on racing and lots of stuff (outside racing too) But most changes in stuff while I was on vacation in Canada seem to have been for the better!
Maybe I ought to go away more often ... ya never know .. could work ... :)
How dare Carl accuse ESPN of creative editing of clips to push an agenda!
ReplyDeleteGood thing I have the NFL to fill in during the rain delay.
ReplyDeleteStill here, just considering lunch. I'm a growing boy!
ReplyDeleteEdwards threw ESPN under the bus for thier editing techniques.
ReplyDeleteLunch? Aren't you on the East Coast? It's time to start prepping Sunday dinner.
ReplyDeleteWe are a little more relaxed here in FL. Late lunch on Sundays. Possibly Dunkin Donuts involved.
ReplyDeleteAncient, I'm glad that you were away on vacation. we were worried about you on here when you stopped being here to root for Kylie!
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping that my boy, Jeff, can break Johnson's stranglehold on the sprint cup trophy, but if not, I'll be cheering for your favorite to do it.
Someone needs to do it this year before I die of total disinterest.
JD, Dunkin Donuts for lunch! I thought people in Florida were healthy eaters.
ReplyDeleteI already had a sandwich for lunch, I had worked up an appetite mowing the grass.
Just for coffee, the food is a mess with calories!
ReplyDeleteLook at Clint with no RCR sponsor logos.
ReplyDeleteWhew, OK, JD. you had me worried there.
ReplyDeleteI feel bad for Clint in a lot of ways. I thought he'd done a good job for RCR. The lack of sponsorship in NASCAR has reached a crisis stage IMO.
But ask BZF if there's a problem and he'll just give everyone the same old song and dance -- all is well, all is well.
Somebody wrote that they " hope
ReplyDeleteAlan makes this a memorable race.
Uhhuh. If he stops talking and
trying to be cute...It will help.
And Jabber Jabber slowly upping the ante on non stop chatter. With
items that a casual race face wont
understand.
And still no DESIGNATED TIMES
for the announcers to just
SHUT THE THE HELL UP AMEN there
is no hope for us the tv fans.
Is the problem the lack of sponsors, or the lack of sponsors at the price the owners are asking?
ReplyDeleteNASCAR, the teams, drivers, track owners, and tv partners need to realize the sport isn't as popular as before, therefore doesn't command the dollars as before.
Anon, a company cannot spend sports marketing dollars without being in the black.
ReplyDeleteThose companies in the red are withholding sponsor money. Dupont left Jeff and that was writing on the wall.
If Lowes leaves Jimmy, we know it is going to be a long road back to the healthier times.
JD, @Nascar_WXMAN is suggesting Green flag around 7-8pm EDT given current conditions/forecasts. Any word if coverage will be swapped around the ESPN networks to avoid MLB?
ReplyDeleteThe Cup TV contract mandates live carriage from green to checker.
ReplyDeleteESPN or ESPN2 will be the destination, none of the other ESPN nets are in play for Chase races.
Gina V/24 & JD
ReplyDeleteGina PART:
You know I ALWAYS root for Jeff if Kyle can't do it.
But here is my prediction on the Chase: Harvick. It has been a gut feeling of mine all season -- I do not know why except Karma. It is 2011 he, after all, is in the 3 and this year they painted the 29 Black.
Jeff will get P2 at the End. Weasley P3 and Kylie P4.
I know you will remember this so I am risking my immortal sould saying it, but this is my prediction.
JD PART
If you go to Dunkin then go at 40 minutes pastthe Hour. I have never missed on the fresh stuff at 40 minutes past.
:)
@Vicky D - Just reading older comments and wanted to point out that Kyle Busch is seeded first because of NASCAR's tiebreaker rule that is used any other time. With equal points and equal number of wins, the next tiebreaker is 2nd-place finishes. If that's also a tie, most 3rd-place finishes and so on until the tie is broken.
ReplyDeleteGina
ReplyDeleteThanks for the Clint / BZF post.
I might have written that but JD seems to nick me when I make BZF comments.
I will say this season I am well Pleased Mike Helton has been far more front and center. It gives me hope.
Ans to Martin Vincent
You are in Canada I believe. I thoughly enjoyed the racing I saw up there this summer. My favorite was the Riverside 250 in Nova Scotia where Marcos came and ran (placed 9th as I recall ... could be wrong; I often am).
Hey Martin Truex, lets talk about your brother that ran the Nationwide race yesterday. Tell us what its like to see your little brother race?
ReplyDeleteReally? Really?
Lets ask him this question. Why is your team owner a loser? Why cant his teams win races on Sunday? Why did you sign up for a Toyota team that is down on power and no hope in sight?
Why is Gibbs still running his own engines today at the rest of the season? What happened to deal with TRD?
They made such a big deal that they cant keep up and their reliability isn't good so what happened? Gibbs clearly has an advantage in power and torque.
Lets talk about race stuff, not some pip squeek wanna be Nationwide driver!
Tex, it's a lot of soft-sell today for sure.
ReplyDeleteeasy solution for ESPN, just bump the NHRA drag racing for NASCAR this evening on ESPN2.
ReplyDeleteThink Chase races are going to stick with ESPN. But, stranger things have happened.
ReplyDeleteAncient, I do appreciate that you root for my favorite, if your boy isn't in contention.
ReplyDeleteI hope that you are wrong about Jeff finishing any where but first, but of course that's just me) although having Weasley finish where you have him or lower works for me.
Yes, it is interesting that Helton has been out in public more.
JD - totally agree about the soft soap. I still cannot believe that Kurt backed off of his 5X chump and I'm inside his head comment. Shoot, I mean, there was a way to do boys have at it without repercussions. It was easier for him to deny it and attack reporters instead.
Hey gang! Not watching too much right now, but I love listening to Nicole rag on the Doofus Brothers (Rusty and Brad).
ReplyDeleteOh well. I see ESPN has jumped to baseball.
Did ESPN ever say they were going to baseball tonight? I musta missed itn, no program alert either...
ReplyDeleteAny idea when the window is for a race to halfway today/tonite?
ReplyDeleteNFL Redzone is pretty cool.
ReplyDeleteRight now (4PM) NASCAR is maintaining the party line. Going to wait until tonight to call it.
ReplyDeleteProbably around 7PM ET. Will keep you all updated if things change.
@JD, why do you say that? all incidations, including @nascar_wXMAN suggest this is the back end of the storm = 2-3 hours to dry, we could be racing by 7pm? they have lights?
ReplyDeleteOK, they've lost their minds. Time to do what TBS used to do in rain delays: The Andy Griffith Show!!
ReplyDelete@AncientRacer - I didn't realize Marcos had come to race in Nova Scotia, the only Cup driver appearance I've seen advertised was when the Busch brothers came to Delaware Speedway.
ReplyDeleteProbably the old "backyard" saying, but life is busy and I haven't taken in any of the local short-track racing in a long time. I've only gone to the Nationwide race in Montreal this year.
Gotta keep those concession stand sales going.
ReplyDeleteChrisK, you are probably right about the concessions. People waiting around eat and drink more! kaching!
ReplyDeleteAncientRacer, remind me who is Weasley again.
ReplyDeleteThe missing point of all the goofy interviews is the Jack Roush conversation about Jimmy Leeward.
ReplyDeleteJack worked on the Galloping Ghost, you can see the photos on Leewards Facebook page.
But of course we need to hear about the 79 500, and more lies about how Menard didnt spin last week.
ESPN believes they play to a 3rd grade level reading viewer, when in fact an educated race fan knows when the propaganda starts and ends in NASCAR.
Just flipped to ESPN to see whats happening. Talking to Ward Burtons brother, and behind him it looks sunny and blue sky. Hmmm. Maybe a night race?
ReplyDeleteAnon, been looking for Roush in this deal. Wonder if it was his choice to stay away, not like him.
ReplyDeleteI have the feeling that Nicole was wishing she had Ricky Craven and Kenny Schrader in the infield studio with her.
Rusty and Brad are just awful.
MEMO TO: Mike Helton, President NASCAR
ReplyDeleteFROM: Ancient Racer
SUBJ: ANCIENT RACER'S CHASE INCLEMENT WEATHER RULE
(this will be an addendum to all existing Rules to be A DUTY of the President)
NASCAR RULE BOOK, PG XX , Paragraph XXXX.xx, Subsection YYwQ.32.18(24) is amended to read:
"It shall be the Duty and Obligation of the President to Insure that Each and Every Contest sanctioned, organized and/or officiated by NASCAR during the CHASE to be run to its FULL SCHEDULED LENGTH. If, it appear in the best judgement of the President, that ANY contest so defined may not be accomplished at or near its scheduled date or time it SHALL be the DUTY of the PRESIDENT to reschedule said race to the next available day and time."
... And that is just how it must be, Mike.
Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call.
As Always In the Best Interest Of Our Sport, And With Warm Personal Regards, I Remain,
ANCIENT RACER
:)
ESPN has moved to SportsCenter at 5PM while track drying is underway.
ReplyDeleteWill update at 6PM.
And the winner is?
ReplyDeleteSunday Night Football...
Michael Vick's return to Atlanta tonight will crush any attempt by NASCAR to run this race tonight. And Helton knows it...
ReplyDeleteIts a loss, get out while you can -- leaving Gordon to win on Monday....
Karen, Knaus is Voldemort, Johnson is Weasley.
ReplyDeleteYep, the NFL takes the day by default.
ReplyDeleteAnon -- I like the way you think!
A Gordon win any day of the week is OK by me.
BTW, I am watching the Patriots/San Diego game on CBS - no sports center for me.
Hey, JD - I'll recommend TooJays!
ReplyDeleteStop kidding yourself, the NFL will crush NASCAR every weekend. Are there really people dumb enough to think NASCAR can compete with the NFL?
ReplyDeleteAnon @ 5:31:
ReplyDeleteYes, in fact it's more or less a given that some of said people are/have been on the International Speedway Corporation payroll.
Oh, well, no racing today. Made a really good pizza, though. Really. Chicago Deep Dish (do not like it that way -- nor NYC -- I like Jersy Pizza. Bit different ina good way)
ReplyDeleteSo, it is up to Mike.
If you have seen my Rule you will know.
FSU lost in football last night and though when Norman Braman owned the Iggles and I used to get to go I don't care much now.
So no sports for Ancient Racer tonite!
My TV:
Ice Road Truckers (rerun)
Ice Road Truckers (new)
Real Housewives of New Jersey (new)
and then, ah ...
Breaking Bad.
See Yawl later!
PS: I resisted as long as I can, but now, JD, I really need some Dunkin'. 40 minutes past the hour after next I shall be there.
:)
From Jayskis: "UPDATE: As of 5:30 pm/et,track drying continues. NASCAR currently estimates that the track could be dry and the race ready to start by 7:00 or 7:30pm/et if it doesn't rain again."
ReplyDeletegrrrr~~!!!! Just got back from the track im at my uncles whos close to the speedway, waiting it out most likley will be tomorrow! Oh well hope everyone is doing well
ReplyDeleteSorry Jonathan, I know that's a pain to wait and get rained on. Can you go back tomorrow?
ReplyDelete6PM update coming from ESPN.
ReplyDeleteI expect the race to be aired tomorrow on ESPN2 due to ESPN's Monday NFL programming lineup.
ReplyDeleteESPN is showing baseball on at 8 pm tonight
ReplyDeleteWhat happened to the 6pm update??
ReplyDeletehad it at about 6:18 ... still trying to dry the track, think they have a window to get the race in tonight
ReplyDeleteAncient -- jersey pizza or tomato pie?
ReplyDeleteI'm making a low fat version of shrimp alfredo.
Did they say if the race will be on ESPN on ESPN2? I know JD says the contract says ESPN, but I never know if ESPN actually knows what that means.
LOL - veriword is curad -- NASCAR needs a bandaid for the bleeding off of its fans due to weather.
Gina
ReplyDeleteAh, in the correct tongue, my fav is Tomato Pie ...
PS: Can I eat at ur house tonite? Sounds big yummy
:)
NASCAR now saying shortly after 7:30PM ET the track may be ready to race.
ReplyDeleteCrews on pit road drying pit areas. No rain at present.
Keep you updated.
hey jd, what it will actually be ready for is that one line of rain inching closer.
ReplyDeleteAnother line of storms heading towards the track. They may get the race started, but there will be another delay shortly there after.
ReplyDeleteWell Im back after a long day away from the race. Surprised they have hung in here this long. Skipped all the rain delay coverage. Followed along on the twitter. Got to watch the entire Braves game, heartbreaking loss there. Did some psychology homework, watched a special on the Bermuda Triangle (Im in to sci-fi stuff) and made some stellar pasta.
ReplyDeleteId rather they call it and come back tomorow than go all night. I had some stuff to watch later tonight.
Its funny though because from May to August when college was out I could watch a Monday race no problem. First day back was August 15 and were working on our 3rd rainout. Lets not forget the Pocono rain delay either. Thats 4 out of the last 7 races affected by rain. It happens, its life. But the decision to move this race to September was stupid. Crowd is going to be light no matter when you run it. Now you got a summer night race thats a cold rainy fall race in the daytime. The allure of having a Chase race is not enough to boost attendence. Not a very smart move. Its a shame the fans wont support this track. It puts on better racing than Kansas.
Still waiting on an ESPN update. They just kinda ditched us.
Hearing the track is dry, instead were seeing an awkward Espn sportscenter segment where the touch screen isnt working and the analyst is freaked out by it and clearly pissed. No update on the race. If a fan has stayed here on Eepn since they left us at 5 I give you props. But theres a whole fan base out there thats completely in the dark about this race right now. Awful job by the worldwide leader at keeping the fans up to date. BTW if they do go green here in a bit it will more than likely be on the deuce.
ReplyDeleteI've been following here since 2 but I bothered to keep my mouth shut since I had nothing to contribute.
ReplyDeleteWho knows if I'll get my race tonight, however, I have two season premieres, a trip to the airport and a season finale to watch tomorrow that will occupy my time.
NASCAR now in a meeting. No start earlier than 8PM if at all.
ReplyDeleteTV network info pending. Stay tuned.
Good job, Ancient. Tomato pie is the best (all done with the correct accent of course).
ReplyDeleteSure, I love cooking for friends. The one thing I can't find around here is a spicy pasta I used to buy when I lived in Atlanta. It really adds a bit of zing to the dish.
ESPN has battled with rain in half their Cup races this season. (Pocono, Watkins Glen, Atlanta, Chicago) Has to be frustrating.
ReplyDeleteWhat about SPEED airing the race?
ReplyDeleteThe oklahoma state vs Tulsa college football game didn't get underway until past midnight local time, and ended around 3:30 am. There still is plenty of time to get the race in.
ReplyDeleteEspn SPORTScenter never mentions racing (I've been watching). Racing is a sport also; nascar, drag racing sportsman racing, go-cart racing, etc. Maybe they should change the name of SPORTScenter to BALLcenter.
ReplyDeleteThis is a very expensive production for ESPN, you better believe it will be live on either ESPN or ESPN2.
ReplyDeleteNot to worry.
Excellent radar link: http://www.my-cast.com/std/imagery.jsp?DO:IMG:1=
ReplyDeleteCopy and paste that into your browser. No way we race tonight
Nope. Tomorrows another day.
ReplyDeleteIF they get this race started and it's a Chase Race not run the full distance look for alot of controversy over that.
ReplyDeleteRacebuddy is showing rain and nothing on ESPN!
ReplyDeleteI'll keep checking back, I can tell you that i will not listening to ESPN's talking heads talk about baseball. Not my sport.
ReplyDeleteA decision should be made by 8 pm eastern time. If the track isn't or can ge dried by 8:30 go tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteDoes tomorrow's weather look bad too ?
Video on RaceBuddy shows rooster tails of spray behind the vehicles on the track. They'll have to start all over again with drying.
ReplyDeleteNASCAR just lost the track to rain. Expect postponement shortly.
ReplyDeletestraight to baseball ... wow
ReplyDeleteI guess they will try again around 11 or 12 tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteKasey Kahne tweeted starts 11 AM tomorrow
ReplyDeletewell so much for all the lst race of the chase hype.
ReplyDeleteHopefully the weather will be better tomorrow and since they will bring the skeleton crew for coverage, it will probably be better (unless they shoot the race one car at a time or show us only 12) - any bets?
noon eastern timezone
ReplyDeletethanks for keeping the blog open all day, JD. I'll try and check in tomorrow from work.
ReplyDeleteThere ya go. Noon ET Monday on ESPN.
ReplyDeleteWhew, that was a long day. Glad I got pizza!
Weather in Loudon, NH today, 53 about sunny. I'm just saying....
ReplyDeleteThanks for keeping us updated during this long day !!
ReplyDeleteWhen Weasley cannot win ...
ReplyDeleteAnd Voldemort has had too much airtime ...
(oh, I could continue, but ... why ...
#18's got in the bag....)
We will get this over with later!
Thanks, JD!
According to ESPN race is delayed until tomorrow. Darn!
ReplyDeleteJD-Thanks for all you do.
ReplyDeleteBummer, Keep us posted if you hear if they are going to re-air the race. Hopefully it will be a time when we can all see it. Not at a time when most people are AT WORK like they usually do!
ReplyDeleteRace airs at Noon eastern tomorrow on TSN (130 in Newfoundland and Labrador)
ReplyDeleteThanks all! See you tomorrow at noon!
ReplyDeleteBased on what I heard of the INDYCAR race on NBC Sports Network last night, I wonder if the "main booth" was stuck in an IMS Productions studio in Indiana leaving just an NBC Sports Network pit reporter alone. If that's the case they were clearly sleepy (since it's midnight in the studio) and if they had been trackside they would not be sleepy.
ReplyDeleteShould be an interesting race tomorrow. Turn on the Watch ESPN at the shop (learned it was on, did that for Little League baseball with my native country's teams), and let's go racing!
10 a.m. Mountain time! I'll be here...
