Live Blogging Sprint Cup Series Practice From Texas (SPEED)

Steve Byrnes, Jeff Hammond and Larry McReynolds are set to host the final practices for the Cup Series from Texas.

This is a fast track with the potential for trouble all around the circuit. SPEED has perfected the practice coverage and uses Wendy Venturini and Bob Dillner to report from the garage area. These two have consistently kept viewers up to date with the stories unfolding during these sessions.

The weather is great, the pictures are good and the action even during practice is interesting to watch. This post will host your comments about the practice and Happy Hour coverage on SPEED.

  1. morning, jd! just tuned in: wonder if it'll be just us this morning? liked larry mac's info in re: r gordon's oil issue. dillner's illustration of the oil on the back of the 7 car was good, visual tv as well. nice combo.

  2. i am going to be challenged finding the 42 tomorrow, not b/c the number isn't prominent but b/c i'll be looking for that target on it. interesting paint scheme for "dream in color" car!

  3. Red,
JPM got some ribbing about the color of his car last night on trackside, I don't think he cares for the paint scheme much either LOL

  4. Ouch, Andretti's lost two engines? I get the feeling he's not going to be in for more than a few laps tomorrow.

  5. time shifting this moring so posts won't be too timely

  6. Nice shoutout to the people affected by the Fort Hood shootings and the military!

Wonder if that will be in ESPN's script?

  7. ri88girl: thanks for the info: i never watch pre-race and weekday shows so i rely on planeteers to keep me up to speed on stuff like that.

in re: andretti's engines: this is when i wish the 44th car could hang around and run some practice laps just in case . . .

  8. @red - If it were a S&P driver, I'd agree, but Andretti's been running every race this year and only has two DNFs, both to crashes. (And the last one was that dangerous incident at the end of the Martinsville race.) His equipment is probably just giving up the ghost at this point.

  10. Hope Jeff Burton is really feeling ok. find it odd he is sitting out NW race.

  11. ri88, he just smacked the wall hard at full speed. I wonder how sore he REALLY is....

  12. @andrew; agree in re: andretti: not an S&P to be certain. just wish it were possible for the 44th car from qualifying to hang around in case any team had to fall out. i know it doesn't happen often & it's not feasible financially but i hate that some teams get bumped by obvious S&Pers.

such is the nature of the sport.

  13. I've figured out the rash of dark hair on SPEED. I don't think anyone dyed anything including JR, the pic that Wendy took at the bowling thing shows his hair its normal color, and Byrens looks fine this weekend. I think someone in the SPEED hair department thought a new gel, or mousse would be the bomb, and it was. Gel makes hair look 'wet' and so darker. Just my guess.

  14. Did you see poor Larry Mac's shirt? The guys were harrassing him on the air about it.

Nice coverage, but the SPEED wardrobe and makeup group is just not happening.

  16. Interesting Hermie doing that interview.

Its a Gamestop thing JD...just another theme scheme to promo...

  17. Andretti...they do have a slight working relationship with ECR engines, so they might get a favor if needed...

They can't S&P though due to the gap on 35th not that it'll matter at seasons end lol

  18. David, that was my point. They said nothing about that product, the team or sponsors.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Yeahhhh, I think thats on the wrestling folk to mention it though as they are the ones promo-ing.

I find it curious how early the NW race is today though. No time even for a nap...

  20. Did I mention the truck race at Phoenix has $7 tickets?

  21. JJ working the wheel much more than usual. Chad needs to rub on that thing

  22. still giving Larry guff about his shirt. Hasn't he heard of a travel iron? Thought that would be standard issue for detail oriented guy like him.

    ReplyDelete
  23. ri88, shouldn't the shirt be Speed's responsibility, I would think he shows up they give him the shirt. It actually looks like it's not quite the right size either

  24. SPEED has managed some fifteen hours of coverage so far this weekend with out mentioning Danica more than maybe once. Thanks speed we love u

  26. Any bets we won't see any live wall hits on BSPN? In the past when there has been a calamity corner, they never seem to have a camera trained on that part of the track.

Is Burton practicing his car? I woke up late.

  27. Dot, yeah, I pretty sure Jeff is in the car for practice.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Just answered my own question, Jeff is running 31st.

  29. Kenn, he was not following anyone, just sending messages.

Now I really appreciate him expanding his perspective and following us on Twitter.

He may be a key to getting SPEED and ESPN more interactive for next season. We know TNT is all over it.

  30. Like that retro scheme on AJ's car.

Those RPM chassis with Roush-Yates power will be mighty impressive next year

  34. Notice we have NEVER seen a fan video on NASCAR Now after they askes for submissions?

    ReplyDelete
  35. Had I submitted a fan video to NASCAR Now it would have been rejected. Wouldn't have been very complimentary-like several you tube videos that were taken down by request.
