Live Blogging Nationwide Series From Richmond (ESPN2 - 7PM ET)
Here we go with what could be one of the best Nationwide Series of the season. A wide variety of drivers are set to go at it under the lights at the Richmond International Raceway.
Allen Bestwick will host the pre-race show with Ray Evernham, Rusty Wallace and Brad Daugherty. Marty Reid will call the race with Dale Jarrett and Andy Petree alongside. Dr. Jerry Punch, Vince Welch, Dave Burns and Jamie Little are the pit reporters. Tim Brewer is in the Tech Garage.
Richmond is classic short track racing. The packs of cars battle and run side-by-side constantly. It's up to the director to keep the best action in the camera frame while the producer uses the announcers to tell the entire story of the race.
This track can have red flag periods due to the track being blocked. Cautions usually breed cautions and the TV crew will be chasing the hectic action on pit road both under green and caution.
This post will serve to host your comments on the Nationwide Series action from Richmond on ESPN2. To add your TV-related opinion, just click on the comments button below. This is a family-friendly website, please keep that in mind when posting. Thanks for stopping by!
Het all, this should be a blast tonight!
ReplyDelete"Het" *giggles*
ReplyDeleteHappy Race Night Planeteers! Love night racin'! Hope to see some good racin'!
I hope the kittehs, bunnehs & little baby seals will love going fast :)
Um, JD, you know this the NW series tonight?
ReplyDeleteNW pre-race show just started and Rusty is still yelling at me. I guess the booth guys will be showing Bowyer all night so they can talk about what he's learning at the track to help him tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteYou're paying more attention then I am Matt! Didn't notice he put Cup there :p
ReplyDeleteIt was so sad to see todays tv schedule. It would have been cool to see and hear Ray today, but it's just not worth hearing the rest of them.
ReplyDeletePhooyeee, I forgot it's 7. Didn't have the DVR set.
Well I guess I have to pay attention to them now
Opps, I forgot Alan would have been good also.
ReplyDeleteYea, sorry. Tired and changing it now. Loooooong day!

ReplyDelete:( Vicky Someone needs to remind him he has a microphone which would make a lot of folks happy if he didn't :(
ReplyDeleteYup that's what I'm afraid of I like Bowyer but don't want him to be 99% of the broadcast nor if Kylie is leading a zillion laps & pretty much has the win short of "mystery" cautions at the end they'll go on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on about breaking the record/tie and whatever blah blah blah they spit out.
Hey, I only got the title wrong! LOL!
ReplyDeleteAre there any full time NW drdivers in this race tonight? Haven't seen any interviews yet.
ReplyDeleteWhy didn't they let Ray talk about the new car?
ReplyDeleteI am having trouble posting. But JD I didn't even notice the column name hey there's my homeboy! My Word verification is axles!

What's that?
ESPN has no idea.
They've got a few more minutes, they will interview someone who only races in the Nationwide series.
Thanks for the reminder. Word veri off.
ReplyDeletePink is FAST!!!! Go Kyle!!! and kittens & bunnies & little baby seals!!!
ReplyDeleteKyle is pulling it off so far, I have to give him credit. He is having fun with it.
ReplyDeleteGee, I just might root for Kyle to win since he's in the pink bunny, kitty and baby seal car!
ReplyDeleteBut he can do it with a pass and a close finish at the very end instead of stinkin' up the show and leading all the laps!
Hey, they interviewed "Little Gator".
ReplyDeleteOpps, I switched to Sirius.
S&P prediction tonight: 49, 56, 89 and 73.
ReplyDeleteCarl's mom! This is ESPN!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful voice, in key and not doing his own THING! That's how to do it.
ReplyDeleteright guy won the contest apparently. Saw an article where he said he'd always wanted to sing it at a big sporting event. Good for him.
ReplyDeleteAnthem was well done . . . finally.
ReplyDeleteGood job on the anthem!!
ReplyDeleteAnd was that the little girl "artist" from the commercial with Kyle?
Yes, she hit the media center with him earlier.
ReplyDeleteFree Trackpass over at Nascar.com for this race.
ReplyDeleteStill so much about the cup guys - however there's Jason Leffler and Ryan Truex.
ReplyDeleteThanks ink!

ReplyDeleteJD--*giggles* MomCam!
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed the anthem! RIR did great in their selection :)
Hey, she's in my target zone! Of course, she's married!
ReplyDeleteHey, Randy Pemberton pulled through his huge back surgery on Thursday. Hurting, but doing OK says Steve Byrnes.
ReplyDeleteWell JD, I didn't think you would be the first with a "mom" comment. At least she got bumped to the outside of the wife.
ReplyDeleteUGH!, Pops Eury SR.
Who is Pops Eury Jr.?
(typo's drive me crazy)
Steve Wallace as the in-race reporter? Please forgive me for wishing that he's quickly an out-of-race reporter.
ReplyDeleteSteve Wallace as in-car reporter. How would he know how to run well at Richmond (or anywhere else)?
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone really care what the crew chief has to say and does AP really listen to what cc is discussing?
ReplyDeleteummm...Steve is 8th in the points, and the top 10 includes 5 Cup guys ahead of him. Just saying.
ReplyDeleteheheheheh JD! That's how it always is they have the nerve to be married!
ReplyDelete@Glenn--yup I was SCREAMING at the TV! It's just POPS! NOT Pops Eury Sr.! Cousin Tony is NOT Pops Eury Jr.! UGH!
oops forgot "You and Me Both Jr."
ReplyDeleteGlad it seems they've killed that commercial! It got old FAST!
Caution - lots of action going on in the back of the back.
ReplyDeleteback of the pack.
ReplyDeletefew weeks back one of them (Larry?) called Ryan Truex 'Ryan Truex Jr' Just a habit I guess.
ReplyDeleteWhats with all these commercials - arrggghh
ReplyDeleteYou are watching a good battle and flick your watching the race for 2nd.
ReplyDeleteThese poor cup guys are just having a terrible time in this NW race.
ReplyDeleteThe darn race is interupting the commercials.
ReplyDeletedid they missed the restart?
ReplyDeleteLittle tight track for two video boxes, what do you guys think?
ReplyDeleteI would rather see one window.
ReplyDeletehere we go again I had audio on the scanner now I have nothing. I've restarted etc etc guess its time I disappeared for the night and watched the lightning over the ocean - at least there are no commercials there.........
ReplyDeleteI've sat in some of the areas that are blocked off tonight. Not a great crowd for them.
ReplyDeleteJust got a msg from the NASCAR.com guys, they switched the audio to the right channels. Close and open it again, it should work fine and is free tonight.
ReplyDeleteOh wow Elliott Sadler is having an outstanding run - oh yeah, he's a cup guy - but where's Kligerman? Well he's a little behind & a NW guy so we won't hear about him.
ReplyDeleteThanks JD mega tantrum averted. Lightning storm still ongoing though if I'm desperate in the next commercial!
ReplyDeleteThese new cars might be sweet looking, but they are single file on a track where racing is usually side by side.
ReplyDeleteTires maybe?
Kenny Wallace and Nemechek are both doing good.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like the new cars will bring the same excitement to the Nationwide series that it did to the Cup series.
ReplyDeleteThe look is just great on TV!
ReplyDeleteRW is watching the rotors! Lucky us!
ReplyDeleteDid Dr. Punch just say "#00 Ryan Newman"?...
ReplyDeleteBig box should have the two to three cars in it not the small box. Small box should be for one car, like pit stops.
ReplyDeleteTo me that makes sense.
Yes he did! LOL!
ReplyDeleteLove that aerial shot!!
ReplyDeleteWhy have the pit stop in the big box and not the racing?
ReplyDeleteEverytime something about the coverage starts to bother me, I remember that there are no Waltrips and it doesn't seem so bad.

Missed two restarts so far.
ReplyDeleteEspn has no pride in what they do.
Espn doesn't care because they have no pride.
OH no, a cup guy has tire rub! Let's watch him go around the track for a hundred laps!
ReplyDeleteReally Rusty? It's not a tire rub? C'mon now.
ReplyDeletePretty sad to miss not only the restart but the lead change. Just sad.
ReplyDeletePoor Chickenman :(
ReplyDeleteNascar preaches safety, but yet they'll let a guy run around lap after lap with a tire rub. I don't get it.
ReplyDeleteThis race appears to be ESPN's promotional tool for upcoming football games. Is there any doubt where their heart is?
ReplyDeleteMan, I was just thinking that. It's the red headed stepchild among the stick and ball boys.
ReplyDeleteWith 62 laps to go Espn finally figures out how many sets of tires the teams were able to buy.
ReplyDeleteSo we've got a new NW car on its first short track, with no one knowing a lot about how it will need tires, and Nascar does not allow Goodyear to sell the teams an extra set or two?
ReplyDeletePoor Brian :(
ReplyDeleteI wish ESPN would use a rule of thumb on their split screen coverage. Put the battle that is closest to the front on the left side and your other battle on the right. Seems goofy to me show a battle for 3rd place on the right smaller screen while showing the battle for 13th on the left bigger screen..
ReplyDeleteThese last 50 laps on TV have really stunk in terms of coverage, especially pictures.
ReplyDeleteESPN (main) just did a side-by-side promo of the final 10 laps on ESPN2 after a Marshall TD.
ReplyDeleteHow hard is it to hold the camera on the finish line??
ReplyDeleteESPN:
ReplyDeleteyou couldn't show the final lap???

You would think there would be more viewers watching Nascar when you read that yesterday's NFL game was the most watched regular game in 14 years.
ReplyDeleteSo people do have Tv sets out there.
You just wonder what it is we have to do to get the freaking lead lap cars to cross the finish line on camera!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by folks! See you tomorrow night. TV schedule is on the main page!
ReplyDeleteJD
Congratulations to Happy :)
ReplyDeleteNice to see Trever and Ricky battle it out for 3rd and them getting some TV time! Nice post-race interviews :)! Good kids they are!
Forgot to add very nice of Clint to go over and chat with Brian about their incident
ReplyDeleteJust one more comment - ESPN did a fine post race show and lots of interviews. Still missed the cars crossing the finish line but I've been complaining about that for over 10 years! See everyone later!!
ReplyDeletehey JD, the pre-emptions start already: 6abc in philly will not be showing nascar countdown, instead they will be showing a weekly eagles pre-game show (for a game tomorrow). I am glad ABC is only used 3 times, cause the affilliates clearly disregard and disrespect nascar fans... pathetic..
