Live Blogging Whelen Mods From Bristol (SPEED - 6PM ET)
Every year the Whelen Modified Tour fights for TV time. Bristol Motor Speedway gives the teams an opportunity for national TV on a Wednesday. Sometimes, something is better than nothing.
The good news is that Mod fan Mike Joy is calling the race along with regional racing expert Dick Berggren. Bob Dillner, who is also deeply involved in the regional racing scene, will be the pit road reporter.
It's great of SPEED to air this race that gives fans an opportunity to see the teams and personalities of a tour that is famous throughout the greater New England area.
The Mods put on a great show and the bumping and passing style of the series should make for some interesting racing. Look for Joy to pass along a lot of information about the drivers and the history of this tour during the telecast.
This post will serve to host your comments on the SPEED coverage of the Whelen Modified Tour from the Bristol Motor Speedway. To add your TV-related comments, just click on the comments button below.
Speed Channel cant for the life of them produce a broadcast without technical problems. Last weeks Cup qualifying was mostly silent. Todays Truck quals is even worse. They had 5 days to fix it, no excuses.
ReplyDeleteMan, this truck coverage is the pits! Weird. Usually right on the money.
ReplyDeleteGood evening!!!!...am looking forward to the Mods....I am having no audio problems with truck qualifying...did I miss sumfin???
ReplyDeleteMikey is in his "other" personality today. Talk about annoying. After doing such a good job on the last race too...
ReplyDeletePsyched for the Mod race. If you are on Twitter or Facebook, you may discover that the SPEED coverage is slightly time-shifted.
ReplyDeleteJust FYI.
w00t! w00t! The Mod Squad <3
ReplyDeleteIm really really really excited for this race. Myers Brothers, Tim Brown, Seuss, Santos. About as big of a field as you can get for a Mod race. Hoping for no more audio problems!
ReplyDeleteNice to hear from Dick Berggren when he gets more than one sentence out on the air and Chris Myers is not dragging him down.
ReplyDeleteTed Christopher having a snit with his crew chief???...Imagine that!!!!....I am pullin' for the Myers Boys from Bowman-Gray!!!!...Dirty South!!
ReplyDeleteThe "former nascar drivers group", once again failed to get the job done. Mikey and Phil were lost, lets see what "real broadcasters" like Mike and the DR can do.
ReplyDeleteThis is such a cast of characters in the Mod race. Makes the Cup guys look pretty vanilla.
ReplyDeleteWelcome to "old school"
ReplyDeleteJust my opinion but.....Mikey may get all pumped up and outta kilter when he comes to Bristol....remember, now....he almost got killed comin' off turn 2 so many years ago...that MAY dwell on his mind somewhat...
ReplyDeleteCool a see thru mod car.
ReplyDeleteMikey was just creepy today. Hope he gets it together for the race tonight.
ReplyDeleteStarting 29th, Daniel Hemric in his THIRD race in a mod...he won Brutons $250,000 Legends race last year...one fine wheelman...
ReplyDeleteThere ya go!
ReplyDeleteLets hope they get the cameras right
ReplyDeleteIMO...Mike Joy wishes he had said that BEFORE me....lol
ReplyDeleteWell they missed the first one, but came back with a lot of shots on the replay
ReplyDeleteEric Rudolph...man Id hate to go through life with that name. On a side note he was captured a few miles from my house as the crow flies. Eric Robert Rudolph not Eric Rudolph
ReplyDeleteIs racebuddy going to be available for the truck race. I looked at Nascar.com and did not see any reference to it but how Nascar.com is designed it could be there and I didn't see it.
ReplyDeleteThey told me RB was up for all the truck series races.
ReplyDeleteI have all but given up on NASCAR.com it is such a mess.
Awwww, Andy P on the hook!!
ReplyDeletezoom out. Tight camera shots do not work at Bristol.
ReplyDeleteWhat bothers me is Speed, Espn, all have been in the business of televising car races for years and they still haven't learned how to show a race to the Tv viewer.
Myers Boys have NO luck away from Bowman-Gray....Austin Pack will be good after his dose of crashitis...
ReplyDeleteThose overhead shots are just awesome!!!!
ReplyDeleteCervics? Dude. At least get a biology book.
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice job they are doing in the booth. Just proves you only need competent people to make a good show without all the fluff and nonsense!
ReplyDeleteTheres an opening for whom we call Mr. Kelley Earnhardt....L.W. Miller
ReplyDeleteWhoa! What a hit!
ReplyDeleteAlmost looked like something wet was on the track
ReplyDeleteAgree on the oil suggestion.
ReplyDeleteOver head shots show the race and what happened in replay.
ReplyDeleteI have an idea show the real race with wide shots.
When you get a close look at some of these cars they are beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI know technology is supposed to be a "better thing", but that miserable chemical they are starting to use instead of kitty litter is amazing in that it makes clouds....causes those with breathing trouble even MORE suffering, and I haven't seen that it's an improvement..

ReplyDeleteWhat crap, who wants to see the inside of a modified? Take the camera high, show me the RACE
ReplyDeletees the split screen, thx
ReplyDeleteFinally showed the proper shot from above, come on follow the action, look out the window
ReplyDeleteJames, awful directing. Just awful. We are actually seeing the race through the replays.
ReplyDeleteThey are even zooming in so tight that they show just one car - at Bristol.
ReplyDeleteIs this going to be the same camera director we get for the truck race?
Shawn C isn't a fan of the broadcasting
ReplyDeleteI predicted this the other day, remember!
ReplyDeleteHow many times do they have to attempt to show the race before they understand you need to see it
ReplyDeleteA rear bumper cam shot from a modified, are you kidding me. What IS this, auto racing 101?
ReplyDeletedid not realized that this is the Ryan Newman 150
ReplyDeleteEverything is just soo overly tight.
ReplyDeleteWhen we are told these cars are like out of control missles, I guess they were right
ReplyDeleteYou oughta see them at Bowman-Gray!!!!
ReplyDeleteJD > it just shows they DO NOT KNOW how to show the race fan at home the race. These folks are not race fans that control the show. You got the two best guys in the booth you could ever ask for BUT the video is LAME
ReplyDeleteI think this is a perfect track for these Hornets!
ReplyDeleteNewman is tailormade for a modified....the G forces don't bother someone with No Neck....lol
ReplyDelete15 Laps to go.
ReplyDeleteGive the director an incar cam and he goes nuts.
ReplyDeleteRacing all over the track. Not seeing any of it.
ReplyDeleteWhy do you think Newman is a NNCS driver? They had an agenda after the last race, I guess HE IS that good
ReplyDeleteMr Editor -
ReplyDeleteWhat a treat ...knowledgeable, informative, entertaining and professional, too ...it can be done ...imagine that ...I miss Madhouse, but I'm only 2 hours away so I reckon I should make it to a show at Bowman Gray, eh?
Walter
You give those guys something to prove, sometimes that is the little extra they need.
ReplyDeleteHe sure has something to prove. That he is not a cheater in this series.
ok Tv fans how many cars are still on the track. I see one.
ReplyDeleteThat Bowman Gray show just totally flopped in the ratings.
ReplyDeleteOf course....wrong channel...wrong producer...wrong way to shot it...etc....
You could package BG races for SPEED the week after and have a great show.
oops...."shoot it."
ReplyDeleteGreat rae, great job in the booth, absolutely the crapiest video imaginable. I think Andy Petree would be better off if he put Larry Macs kid in the seat!
ReplyDeleteHey, we got to see them finish at least. Thanks for that.
ReplyDeleteJD...you are so right about Madhouse....WRONG channel...wrong shoots...too much staging...BUT...it certainly got the stands filled for the first two nights after the winter showings....OMG there wasn't a seat to be had and Garrison, promoter, had to turn away more than 2,000 at the gate...I wish SPEED WOULD take a look and do that show....for ALL the classes, not just the open wheel mods...its turly a show....
ReplyDelete*truly*
ReplyDeleteThe live blog for the trucks is up! Please move your comments to that location.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
JD
I thought the coverage was ok. The booth was great & knew who was on track and what the series is about. They were ahead of the production truck for a lot of wrecks, it's onalt 1/2 a mile! Camerawork left a little to be desired too. But my drivers finished 2 & 3 so I'm happy.
ReplyDeleteonalt = only lol
ReplyDeleteMike Joy was on top of his game but Mikey was very irritating. Our fav was out fairly early so we weren't as interested in watching it so intently.
