Live Blogging The Nationwide Series From Richmond on ESPN2
Dale Jarrett and Vince Welch have the weekend off, so ESPN will go with three pit reporters and Rusty Wallace upstairs in the broadcast booth Friday night in Richmond.
ESPN2 comes on the air at 7PM ET, with the green flag flying at 7:43PM. Dr. Jerry Punch will call the short-track action with Wallace and Andy Petree alongside. Jamie Little, Shannon Spake and Dave Burns will be on pit road.
Richmond is a fast and intense race that brings fans quickly back to the reason short-track racing is a blast. Two grooves have traditionally worked quite well at this track that has also frequently seen the caution flag fly.
Pictures from RIR at night are always spectacular in HD and the sound is very different from last week at the Talladega Superspeedway.
The TV challenge is to keep up with the leaders, the best racing and tell the on-going stories all at the same time. No easy task in the Richmond environment.
Once again SPEED has provided all the TV coverage of the day, including the Nationwide Series qualifying. 7PM is the first and only time NASCAR fans will see ESPN covering the action from Richmond.
This post will serve to host your comments on the ESPN coverage of the Nationwide Series race. To add your TV-related opinion, just click on the comments button below. This is a family-friendly website, please keep that in mind when posting.
Thanks for taking time from your Friday night to stop by The Daly Planet.
Weather looks good, how about for later tonight?
ReplyDeleteWith Rusty in the booth, I'll find something else to do this evening.....
ReplyDeleteJD - I'm afraid with the group in the booth it'll be a long night.
ReplyDeleteESPN did a much better tribute to David Poole than Speed. Kind of choked me up.
ReplyDeleteLet's pray for good weather. Rain delay and RW = yikes!!!
ReplyDeleteDarn! Just missed it...thought I had my timing down to check mail and turn in rent. Came in on the end :(
ReplyDeleteNo love for RW? Come on....

Let's just hope he does not break out Draft Track. Remember that one?
ReplyDeleteI hate to have to comment on the coverage from MRN when the subject is ESPN, but if ESPN had coverage I wouldn't have to listen to the radio.
ReplyDeleteMy rant thought. MRN did not cover the at track announcer for the moment of silence for David Poole, the invocation, and 1/2 of the Anthem, sung by Charlie Daniels.
This is NOT a good start for MRN tonight.
What were they doing instead Glen?
ReplyDeleteGood anthem by Charlie Daniels and lots of fans singing along that I never heard before.
ReplyDeleteKRKO-AM in Seattle didn't switch to the MRN broadcast until right before the "start engines" command ...
ReplyDeleteAnd then when they did ... You couldn't even hear it because the sound was soooooo low ...
JD said,

Yepper. Don't think this track is conducive for drafting.
@Karen
ReplyDeleteYour thing about "Comment should be removed" CRACKED ME UP! LMAO!!!!!!!
Rusty handled that well. Silence.
ReplyDelete@Karen--LOL!
ReplyDeleteYes I agree, Mr. Daniels did a great job! <3

I've never, ever seen him with his hat off. Kind of weird, huh? But excellent job. That's the way it should be done.
No promo for Fox or even the start time....come on AB!
ReplyDeleteI was setting up my computer to this site and not looking at the Tv and I missed the green flag. I looked up just as the cars were going into turn one. I thought they would get a bit excited when the race started.
ReplyDeletesorry guys, I have to disagree. Charlie's age has caught up to his voice. Don't get me wrong; he's a legend, but sooner or later, it happens to most singers.
ReplyDeletePeople love him anyways, so it really doesn't matter, but it was sort of painful to me.
Nice interview with Eric McClure.
ReplyDeleteweather update, just checked the NWS radar. just a chance of an isolated t-storm, maybe we will get to see the race without rain.
ReplyDeleteglenc1 - Charlie did a concert right before the race and was on "Trackside" ... So, that may be what you were hearing ...
ReplyDeleteRusty handled that well. Silence.
ReplyDeleteAs Bootie Barker says, "Well, what did you expect?"
This is precisely why a car owner should not be calling a race with one of his own cars running in it.
Glen, you must agree though that on his worst night, he's better than most of the anthem singers for these races.
ReplyDeleteWhat happened to Scott Speed?
ReplyDeleteSure wish Fox did these kinds of pit recaps.
ReplyDeleteThat Go Daddy ad might be creepier than the Burger King!!
ReplyDeleteGood update on the top 5 - well there's still 30 or 35 to go . . .
ReplyDeleteactually, I think they have good ones and bad ones; it's a mix. Once in a while you get someone you've never heard of who does much better than the celebrities (we've had local people do it at the Glen that were great). Of course, one of the best was the state trooper who used to do it at Richmond until the ISC bought out the Sawyers. He was awesome. One of those country groups who does it a lot did it within the last few weeks and they were great, the name escapes me at the moment.
ReplyDeleteI love rock music, but a lot of the rockers just don't have anthem voices. The country singers are usually better. But a few years back Big & Rich sang it at RIR and I thought they sounded awful (might have been better on TV, I was there & sometimes the sound system distorts.)
But he could have worn out his voice with his other work today; that I might believe.
JD, they were just finishing up with the usual pre race junk. I was working to sync the tv time with Sirius time, I kept waiting and waiting, and after there was more than 45 seconds difference I knew something was wrong. Then all of a sudden they said "lets go to the track" and Charlie was already singing.
ReplyDeleteCharlie was on Speedway the other day promoting the concert and talking about the Amthem.
glenc1 - You're thinking of "Emerson Drive" ... They did it at Nashville ...
ReplyDeleteThe only problem with "Emerson Drive" is ... They're Canadians from Grand Prairie, Alberta ... So, the US National Anthem doesn't "mean" anything to them ...
RE: Rusty - Why does it bother me so much when I hear him pronounce Talledega as TELLedega? Is that a Missouri thing? 'Cause Kenny does it too. Just wondering....
ReplyDeleteGood evening everyone. Got my MRN-internet-station stream going.
ReplyDeleteDarn Shruba-duba-ding-dong took back the lead!
The only problem with "Emerson Drive" is ... They're Canadians from Grand Prairie, Alberta ... So, the US National Anthem doesn't "mean" anything to them ...
ReplyDeleteHow is that a problem?
The did a much better job than lots of Americans we've heard at races...and it supposedly "means" more to them.
I'm a little behind but did Rusty just talk over Andy when he was describing the pass for the lead?
ReplyDeletenrf,
ReplyDeleteImagine that
JD
that was it, tiamatsrevenge...I just looked it up myself. Funny though, we have a local woman who sings an *awesome* Canadian anthem at local hockey games...so I guess it works both ways!
ReplyDeleteOne guy who NASCAR asks a lot is Edwin McCain...he is also very good.
Miss America was okay last week but it was kinda out of her range. It's a *really* hard song to sing.
Joey Logano's really racing hard right now. Holding off Mark.
ReplyDeleteGrr... Shruba-duba...
Well just got here sort of..busy on the phone and tweetin' and trying to get energy to make choc chip cookies for neighbor who cut our grass! Lawn mower still not in the shop after it broke a cable and push mower would not stay started..*Lawn more shops are busy* so neighbor said he would cut it again. Worst time of year to lose mowers..raining making grass grow quickly.
ReplyDeleteI just can't get into the race tonight and will garner my info from here...I missed anything on David Poole except for the moment of silence. Had speed on at NOON and after 10 minutes they said nothing so i turned it off.
Just can' get into the race today. Not having MRN for NW does not help.
Aw man... poor Brandon Whitt. Wish he had a better ride, I've been a fan of his for a while. :(.
ReplyDeleteHow's the tv guys doin' this go-round?
Sophia- Sucks. Not a whole lot of the affiliates (who at least carry Cup) have the courtesy of broadcasting the NW races. I am lucky to have found a few stations that do and stream the broadcast online.
ReplyDeleteHi guys, I'm here.
ReplyDeleteWill play catch up.
Welcome all. Still ready for Jerry Punch to crank it up a notch.
ReplyDeleteJD don't hold your breath, Rusty is doing OK for the most part but I still prefer DJ
ReplyDeleteC'mon Jerry give Brad a break. He's only won one race in cup he says. Yeah, JP needs to crank it up quite a few notches.
ReplyDeleteJD- We have been waiting for Jerry Punch to crank it up for 2 years.
ReplyDelete@Sophia--what a nice neighbor!
ReplyDelete@Dot--welcome home!
Seems like Rusty can't relate to Andy. DJ does a lot of listening.
ReplyDeleteI was listening more than looking up til now--wow, the attendance is light. The backstretch sections get roped off until the front fills up, but even the front looks bare in spots. I've been there when both 'endzones' were open, nothing like that now. Sad, it's a great race. Not sure about how Richmond's economy is faring, but there used to be a lot of locals.
ReplyDeleteOkay, do you really think Scott Speed said 'doggone', lol? I think that's Rusty paraphrasing...
This comment has been removed by a blog administrator.
ReplyDeleteEveryone has different ways of expressing themselves.
ReplyDeleteI would like to see more Greg Biffle in this telecast, but Rusty is really doing a lot of talking.
@ Karen, Girlfriend, you are on tonight. Laughing while eating pizza, hard to do.
ReplyDeleteWhere's DJ? Add me to the non Rusty fans.
Is Greg still there?
ReplyDelete@ Gymmie, thanks.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by a blog administrator.
ReplyDeleteWow, you guys are right. That is a light crowd for the night race.
ReplyDelete@Gymmie
ReplyDeleteActually he's a very cantankerous neighbor to many but been sweet to me. He has a riding mower he loves to ride about every 4 days in this weather...well before we got rain forecast for 7 days.
His wife is sweetie and has a huge yard that looks like something out of Better Homes and Gardens.
Everytime I sit down for the race it's a caution. geez. or commercials.
Is there a FREE ONLINE site streaming RADIO of this race...might keep my interest more than tv.
Finally! People who can admit they dislike Rusty's commentary like me. Happy evening :)
ReplyDeleteIf you are visiting for the first time and would like to get a nick, just follow the Google links for a blue name. That way, we can know who is posting the comments as the race goes on.
ReplyDeleteThanks,
JD
Maybe the potential rain hurt the walk ups. Or they are afraid of the Swine flu :).
ReplyDeleteBe interesting to see how full it gets at Lowe's in a bit. They are pushing those tickets hard right now in the media.
ReplyDeleteHard JD that's an understatement, I almost don't want to watch the race on TV.
ReplyDelete@Dot
ReplyDeleteWelcome, even though you are late to class. You better have a written excuse.
:-0
(I know you were workin')
P.S. My word veri says "peetines" some odd combos on that thing lately, lol
Sophia-The site for 910 AM WCJW out of Johnson City/Kingsport/Bristol offers an online stream
ReplyDeleteI leave to go to the bathroom and Shruba-duba's still leading. Sigh...
Sophia, fess up. You want some chocolate chip cookies so you're sneaking some for yourself. Am I correct in assuming you're a chocoholic? Wish I was your neighbor. I wouldn't mow your lawn, but I'd definitely love to share in your goodies.
ReplyDeleteOK, JD, I'll shut up.
Lots of tailpipes in this coverage. In other words, TV networks usually try to stay ahead of the cars and have them come at the viewer.
ReplyDeleterolls eyes....I'm on a diet, no more cookie talk please!
ReplyDeleteStart & Parks of the race:
ReplyDelete#90 (Lap 13), #49 (Lap 23), #91 (Lap 25), #0 (Lap 31).
The camera is also following them too long we're getting the tops of the hauler (or what ever) too
ReplyDeleteEnough of Kyle already. Good grief. Worse than DW.
ReplyDeleteHotaru!
ReplyDeleteTHANKS. Listening online now. MUCH BETTER..sorry I just can not get into this BOOTH on tv.
Karen
I like chocolate but no energy for baking tonight..so just had some dark chocolate kisses to hold me over till I make cookies later this weekend.
I also think the fact shrubba dubba ding dong is leading KILLING the mood of this race....sigh.
Hated seeing Justin A wrecked out earlier
Thanks for the S&P info! Marty Smith was answering questions yesterday on NASCAR Now.
ReplyDeleteOne question was why Dave Blaney was not running better?
Mary just answered it like this...
"Three words...start and park"
It was awesome.
Maybe NASCAR can figure something out for the stretch run.
JD
Is anyone aware that tomorrow is Shruba-dubba-ding-dong's birthday? Would be a good weekend if he won both (but not for me).
ReplyDeleteI bet ESPN's loving this. No deviation from 'the script'.
Oh, and there's Carl too. How perfect for them.
I'm off balance tuning in late.
ReplyDeleteGood, Shruba duba behind Carl. Happy hotaru?
Did they mention Allgaier and McClure were back on the racetrack?
ReplyDeleteKeep an eye on the battle between the #26 and #01. They were 2 points apart before the race battling for the last locked in position.
They are doing a fairly decent job of talking about the non-cup guys (I don't consider Bliss a cup guy) considering the have pretty much taken over the top spots. However don't go overboard on Mike Bliss please.
ReplyDeleteOK what's with the triple shot of the pass. Not sure I like it
Shannon Spake has been working like a maniac tonight. Love the effort.
ReplyDeleteand Blaney deserves better than that...they all do.
ReplyDeleteHow about this one on an earlier caution as reported by Bob Pockrass on Twitter:
ReplyDelete"NASCAR believes this debris caution is for a hammer up against the Turn 4 wall. How did that happen?"
Nothing said or shown...
If Shruba duba wins tomorrow, he'll be the 2nd guy to do so on his b-day. Let's hope he doesn't.
ReplyDeleteI am not! Go everyone else (even though I'm a Roush fan)
ReplyDeleteWhen Nemechek qualified today, the Fox guys said he could not afford the tires to run the whole Cup race.
ReplyDeleteThere is just something fundamentally wrong with that.
OT JD did you see Kyle Petty's post on twitter?
ReplyDeleteNOT a fan of the odd Triple shot camera.
ReplyDeletesome NASCAR directors watched too many episodes of the Brady Bunch.
Jerry does get fired up...when he throws to commercial!!!
ReplyDeleteGood observation by AP on Burney Lamar's car. Nice to see the booth showing more than just the cup guys.
ReplyDeleteWell, hey, David Ragan ain't running tonight (or next week) so I wouldn't mind anyone but Shruba-duba, Carl, Mike Bliss, and Jeff Burton (some reason, I can't stand Jeff).
ReplyDeleteI should swap over to my Google account- forgot untill now I had one.
Yea JD but it's a great commercial. Mikey and Macy, too funny
ReplyDeletePoor Joe. He makes such an effort. I swear if I the money, I'd buy him some tires.
ReplyDelete@ dear Sophia, funny.
seeing Mikey Commercial reminds me.
ReplyDeleteI sat through an entire episode of that My Name is Earl show. WOW, when did that show become so crude and coarse? Watched it the first few epis of Season 1 and then lost interest..maybe that was why. Mercy!
About being sad? Has to be a tough year for Kyle. Not made any better by NASCAR Smarts and that horrible format.
ReplyDeleteSophia, wasn't that show terrible last night? How is it still on the air?
ReplyDeleteanyone else with thoughts on the espn commercial dramatizing the crashing aspects of racing? maybe I'm just noticing it cause of the talladega fall out, but that commercial clearly has an attitude of attracting the "casual fan who loves crashes" kinda disgusting honestly
ReplyDelete"had"
ReplyDeleteJD, since you're here, can we not do the word thing?
AC/DC for bumper music on MRN from like 30 years ago! She Shook Me All night long...first few bars :)
ReplyDeleteBLAST from the past
Nice to hear Barney Hall again!
OK, I'll test the water.
ReplyDeleteYes JD that post, I just hope camp doesn't lose it's support since he's not around anymore. Tony's Prelude isn't for camp this year either, but I guess spreading the wealth is probably more fair.
ReplyDeleteAhhh there's the Biff.
ESPN's through the field is sponsored, with all the sponsor items on Fox you would think they could get something sponsored that the fans want to see.
Anon,
ReplyDeleteI kind of felt that is what was wrong with Carl being on all these TV shows.
Okay, swapped over. Really became a hassle typing my username, and remember... oh, have an account.
ReplyDeleteWhew, this race is flyin' by so quickly.
Did Daly say he was on a diet?! NO WONDER he is so upset about the Burger King! It's not the butts - it's the buns!!! hahaha
ReplyDeletePS Why has Dr. Jerry Punch declared war on excitement?
This comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteI love it when they start talking fuel mileage, anyone really think this race will stay green to the end? This is a NW race after all, heck Steven Wallace has dumped or almost dumped at least 3 cars already and he's still not on the lead lap
ReplyDeleteROFL...I am not a diet kind of guy!
ReplyDeleteLet you know how it all works out.
Does Kevin Costner and NASCAR together kind of make your brain hurt a little?
This comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteKevin Costner in ANY combo makes my head hurt.
ReplyDeleteNOT a fan of that cre-- er, guy.
Delana Harvick is on Twitter. She is not liking her pit crew. Bad stops. Should be interesting right now.
ReplyDeleteA caution for Morgan Shepherd losing power?
ReplyDeleteThe battle for 30th in owner points is intense. The #26 is 5 points ahead of the #01 right now.
I follow De on Twitter too. Her comments are interesting to read.
ReplyDeleteOK why is this guy screaming at me for ESPN360, are they kidding me with this commercial.
ReplyDeleteWe always try to remind others that at least Morgan runs the entire race, often on his own dime.
ReplyDeleteI hadn't planned on listening to the whole race tonight... actually a pretty good one.
ReplyDelete@ Anon 9:16 & JD,
ReplyDeleteIt's a sad world we live in when crashes are used to get viewers. True fans watch regardless. Yes, they are breathtaking. I find it more breathtaking when they almost wreck. Like, "how'd he save it?"
If you've noticed in the media, all the news is now based on bad behavior and sensationalism. Maybe my age is showing.
JP sounds like he's winding down. Time for him to switch batteries.
nrf- I hate Billy Mays too. But there are some funny YouTube vids of his commercials.
ReplyDeleteJD - This race broadcast is not bad. I don't know whether I missed it but have they mentioned who has gotten the lucky dog? Also, I hate when RW says - driving their brains out!!!!
ReplyDeleteHis track bar is done.
ReplyDeleteDrive his brains out. Reminds of the other saying and I keep waiting for Rusty to misspeak.
ReplyDeleteJD- Morgan gets much more help this year. Tony Stewart pays his tire bill and Kevin Harvick helps with cars.
ReplyDeleteWith Morgan off the track, the 26 and 01 would be locked in at Darlington and the 89 would have to go or go home.
Here we go THE STORY for this race is now behind the wall, now what Doc
ReplyDeleteThe only drawback is Punch, he is back to stats and numbers and catch phrases.
ReplyDeleteNice guy, but he should be in the infield.
I hope they try AB in the booth once then Punch is on vaca.
I'm suffering from Wallace/Punch Syndrome.
ReplyDeleteAs much as I don't like Mike Bliss, tough to see his night end like that.
ReplyDeleteBs61,
ReplyDeleteI was doing NASCAR stuff in the 80's and he was already a veteran. I am amazed he is still hanging in there.
Oh now it'll be the Kyle and Carl show or is it the Carl and Kyle show???
ReplyDeleteCup guy gets LD. First one I've heard. I like MM.
ReplyDeleteThey are talking over each other in the booth. Rusty can't stop talking and JP is overwhelmed.
ReplyDeleteHope Brad Keselowski ruins ESPNs Carl/Kyle parade.
ReplyDeleteDon't know why, but I just couldn't get into the race tonite. I'm taping it, but listening to Sirius. My goodness, WAAAAY too many commercials-I feel like I'm complaining about a TV broadcast!! And it's the same ones over & over-about gold is a good thing..etc.
ReplyDeleteI'm actually listening to the TV now..weird.
If tomorrow night's race is anything like this one, I might pay attention to that one too.
ReplyDeleteThink about this. If Fox is hurting for ad dollars and ESPN has a company-wide hiring freeze, you have to wonder how Sirius and MRN are making it on the NASCAR radio side.
ReplyDeleteI don't know if it's because I'm bias (only race I can attend) but I like the Dover commercial
ReplyDelete@nrf--I hadn't realized that it wasn't for Camp this year. Since the TV replacing is on hold (would rather visit my friends since I can get pretty much everything I watch online for free I canceled cable and the only thing I've ever ordered through PPV was the Prelude) so I'm going to send them the $25 directly.
ReplyDelete@JD--yes I've been enjoying De's twitters! I think it was one last night she was tweeting about her Target love! I had to laugh!
The wisdom of DeLana Harvick...
ReplyDeleteGymmie it's all military related this year, kind of hard to complain about that
ReplyDeletemy dad sort of accidentally said once, when he sees Billy Mays 'I just want to kill him', lol. Must be one of the most annoying guys on the planet.
ReplyDeleteWhen I heard that about Joe N.....all I could think was, NASCAR needs a rule. Or maybe Rick H could give him a few tires.
You can there's a pack of cars racing, battling for position.....yet they keep the camera on the front 2 cars where there isn't a battle going on.
ReplyDeleteHi, Billy Mays here for... stop screaming.
ReplyDeleteShruba-duba, NOT again!
ESPN is loving this because it is the script they wanted.
ReplyDelete@nrf--Billy screams EVERYTHING and I swear there's nothing under the sun he hasn't/wouldn't hock! He was on Jay Leno about a month or so ago pimping some show he's doing.
ReplyDeleteWhat a mess :(
You know JD, since you mentioned it, we have heard MM get the lucky dog twice
ReplyDeleteOh no there goes my guy Brian Scott!
ReplyDeletePunch still will not call these incidents when they happen!
ReplyDeletedadgum? These guys must've learned a lot of euphamisms to help them not swear, lol.
ReplyDelete@nrf--ah thanks! Yes definitely no complaints here! <3 military
ReplyDeleteThat was some good driving by Burton.
ReplyDeletePetree sounds so excited when an incident happens....and then Punch chimes in with his monotone drawn out voice with, "caution has come out on lap xxx"
ReplyDeleteI am curious when did things change from, "driving their a** or but off" to "driving their brains out"? Something about driving and brains in the same sentence kinda grosses me out.
ReplyDeleteMRN may have pi'd me off, but at least they can find a wreck in front of them.
And Dot, according to JP Burton just tapped the wall.
ReplyDeleteJP- so monotone, you could fall asleep (but I can't due to all the background noise in the broadcast). Like I'm back at school watching a boring documentary.
ReplyDeleteHave you seen Pitchmen with our friend Billy? You have to watch it at least once.
ReplyDeleteFirst time I've heard Biff.
Mike - absolutely right! Makes me nuts! Can't they just switch those two guys for a N'wide race to see how it works?
ReplyDeleteBTW - SPEED just dropped a line that they have Dale Junior lined-up as a guest on RaceDay Saturday.
Jimmie Spencer and Junior...hmm...
Watch and see there'll be 5 to 10 cars behind Busch & Edwards battling for position running side by side, but they'll keep their cameras focused on Busch and Edwards a couple of car lengths apart.
ReplyDeleteWhat happened earlier w/MM and in race reporting?
ReplyDeletePitchmen... THAT's the name of it. I watched a special on CNBC last weekend and Mays was featured on it.
ReplyDeleteSo few laps to go. I actually would like to see a backflip than a bow (even though I 'disowned' Carl for running in this series)
I don't agree with Andy that was payback by Keselowski. Looks like Leffler pulled a Carl on him and Brad held his line.
ReplyDelete@Dot--yes that's it! That's why he was on Jay...to talk about that show!
ReplyDeleteThe script is right on schedule.
ReplyDeleteLeffler is not the cleanest driver out there I'm guessing he started it
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, I called it.
ReplyDeletePoor Herman :(
ReplyDeleteDot,
ReplyDeleteLast time they went to MM in-car, he was busy getting his LD back and couldn't talk.
Attention Jerry...there's a car in the wall.
ReplyDeleteAnother caution... getting down to the end.
ReplyDeletePoor Kenny, even though I find him annoying on 'RaceDay' personally.
So that's how many accidents JP has missed in progress?
ReplyDeleteHeck, I would take AB in the booth and Dave Burns in the infield.
ReplyDeleteAt least there would be some kind of energy in the broadcasts!
There it is again....Petree "whoaaaaaaa we have a car in the wall" and then total silence from Punch for 10 seconds. It just seems as the race goes on, Punch wears down...it's as if he's run out of things to talk about.
ReplyDeleteKW got the call. Can Carl pass SDDD? Will they hit each other? Let's listen to how JP calls the end.
ReplyDelete@ Karen, thanks.
JD... me too!
ReplyDeleteWin tonight SDDD, lose tomorrow night.
ReplyDeleteNo one saw that win coming...nope not at all :p
ReplyDeleteAnd the script lives!
ReplyDeleteUnhappy camper, am I.
ReplyDeleteDarn it, darn it, darn it!
Ditto Dot
ReplyDeleteNo OFFENSE to KB FANS:
ReplyDeleteTHIS is anothe reason I have been losing interest especially in NW.
how often do we HEAR about FULL TIME NW guys.
:( STINKS for them.
JP gets a second wind at the end of the race.
ReplyDeleteJP calls the burnout/bow better than the race, sad
ReplyDeleteI hear some boos I thought.
ReplyDelete(Oh, wait, that was ME)
MEOW HISS, Phhfft.
Poor Jerry, such a nice guy but he really killed this broadcast.
ReplyDeleteRusty, Andy, AB, Brad and Biff all tried very hard. Shannon was outstanding on pit road.
But, the human monotone just drains the fun out of this series.
Shannon, nice interview with Mark Too funny
ReplyDeleteI think I agree. It seems MRN has had more commercials this year as a whole. I want to take time to disect a radio broadcast like cawsandjaws, just haven't had time. I don't like to b***h when I don't know the truth.
ReplyDeleteMike Bagley has done a wonderful job calling the race tonight.
Well shrub a dub d** ???? ??? ??, I love that name, has done it again. Like him or not he is continuing to break records. We'll have to put up with him for a good while.
How long will the post race last? Heaven forbid baseball tonight gets pushed back 15 minutes into the 1986 boxing match
ReplyDeleteWTF would MM need to learn? She has got to go. Doesn't she know the difference between the CUP & NW cars?
ReplyDeleteI spaced. WHAT did the bwin ask Mark that he seemed annoyed?
ReplyDeleteDang...I even had the tv sound on and missed it.
JD is that other guy holding the recorder really suppose to be that close to the TV interview of the winner? Don't remember that before
ReplyDeleteThanks everyone for stopping by. We will be here with a new column for your comments later and then live blogging the Cup race Sat. night.
ReplyDeleteAlways interesting here in TV land!
JD
The only time Punch sounded excited in the last hour was post-race talking about Busch's post race routine....that's because it went along with his script that he prepared for. Which tells me he can do stuff that's written down, but he can't ad-lib for anything, which is key to be a play-by-play person.
ReplyDeleteDid I miss the replace of Kenny Wallace hitting the wall? All we see is kenny in the wall and rusty saying he doesnt want to see a replay.
ReplyDeleteDecent race. Still to many Cup Guys. Too bad for Morgan. He at least goes as far as he can instead of some teams just parking at first chance do to darkness or needing to rotate the air in their tires.
Coverage wasn't bad. I guess anything is an improvement from last week. Rusty is well... He's like a certain person on SPEED. Needs a restrictor plate or at least a filter. Seems like whatever comes to mind comes out in no specific order or reference.
Like many have said switch JP and AB and that would help the flow and follow through.
Dot I liked the Shannon/Mark interview, shows she was paying attention at least
ReplyDeletenrf, he will get a little NASCAR visit shortly. Hope he keeps his credential for tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteanother short post race. why?
ReplyDeleteDid anyone notice Andy say Carl Edwards is driving his guts out on the last lap? Brains, guts, what's next? Is RW contagious?
ReplyDeleteDecent race, bad ending (at least for me)
ReplyDeleteGood night everyone.
@ Mike, that's exactly what I said last year. JP cannot be spontaneous which is sorely needed in his position.
ReplyDeleteAs I mentioned in my column, ESPN was only on-hand for the race.
ReplyDeleteSPEED once again did everything else.
This has not let the ESPN guys really get comfortable and this week was a good example.
I sure wish there was a post-race show online, but no such luck.
@ Nrf, I couldn't believe the question she asked. I loved Mark's response, though. I guess I missed what was on the radio. But really, what would MM learn?
ReplyDeleteDaly Planet Editor said...

AND now MRN says something about David Poole. Right at the end, right before they thank all their sponsors.
They have their regular producer, I guess she is still mad at David about the grapes.
ESPN broadcast is the same ol'same ol' mess, but that is why I won't listen to them. (crap, here comes "Dialed in", gotta change the channel)
If they want me to pay attention on tv they gotta change a few people.
Just tuned to qualifing, good to see Speed promote the races, even the one on ESPN2.
FOX Sports website has not reported race results yet itself and I was not able to get FOX Race Trax to work tonight or last week for N-wide race. Maybe an economy move?
ReplyDelete@ Richard in NC, I can't get it to work for the NW race either. Is it supposed to? Or is it just for CUP?
ReplyDeleteThe new Fox Race Trax is only for Cup. If you want access to the NW race trax, use http://msn.foxsports.com/nascar/busch/foxTrax.
ReplyDeleteIt worked for me all day today.
