NASCAR "RaceDay" On SPEED From Kentucky Speedway
There is a sellout crowd today at Kentucky Speedway for tonight's inaugural Sprint Cup Series race. Before the on-track action, there is a two-hour RaceDay show on SPEED.
John Roberts is hosting with Darrell Waltrip and Kenny Wallace on the panel. This might be the biggest crowd of fans in the history of the many years of the program.
Reporting will be Wendy Venturini and Hermie Sadler. There is a lot going on inside the track, but one big story is what is going on outside. There has been a monumental traffic jam all day long that has delayed fans and even some drivers from getting to the track. Let's see if SPEED reports on this story.
Rutledge Wood is back on RaceDay and he will be interviewing NFL veteran Chad Ochocinco. Not too sure what the agenda is or why TV is interested in this person, so we will find out together.
Kentucky Speedway's sellout will push issues like no SAFER Barriers on portions of the track and bad traffic jams aside. It's going to be fascinating to see the drivers working before a full house of fans truly excited about the sport.
Wallace has a tough time working with Waltrip on this program. While Kyle Petty tends to be inclusive, Waltrip is the opposite. His opinions are spoken as fact and often Wallace's only option is to agree with the Hall of Famer. That dynamic should be the key to the two-hour show.
As we have in the past for select venues, we are offering you the opportunity to comment on this program before, during or after the show. Feel free to voice your opinions about the content, personalities or production of NASCAR RaceDay on SPEED. To add your comments, just click the comments button below. Thanks for stopping by.
Show starts at 4:30PM ET!
ReplyDeleteCouldn't access you on twitter JD but WISHED I would've emailed you about 700wlw Radio. Been doing SPECIAL NASCAR talk radio since Noon, discussing traffic problems and helpful hints to get to the track. Many of us have been tweeting tips & RT each other.
ReplyDeleteNow they are talking to Bobby Allison & before that Bruton Smith & others.
A GREAT day to be a sports fan and ENJOY the Radio for a change!
Also ESPN Radio 1530 in Cincy will CARRY the race! So they are pulling out all the stops!
I've enjoyed listening the the excitement on the radio. Great weather...HOT but dewpoints are much lower than yesterday.
Looking forward to TNT tonight.
Bill "SEG" Dennison who stammers a bit, is LOVING this extra talk radio for his FAVE sport. Hosts KOI Sports report on Sunday nights. Not a NICER guy could you find. He's like a little kid in a candy store. It's truly Christmas in July for him. Good sound at the track. :)
I just hope Darrell will quit cheerleading for Kentucky Speedway and just talk about drivers and cars
ReplyDeleteNo reporting yet on the bad traffic problem. Maybe if it isn't reported it will go away.
ReplyDeleteThey should interview fans that tried to get to the race last night and missed most the race because of traffic.
Bruton Smith said on the radio I 71 is one of the worse interstates he's ever seen.
ReplyDeleteCourse, the boys didn't ask him about the lack of SAFER barriers...but BS did say the traffic was going to be bad. Oh, and he said if people that went to the race were UNHAPPY about ANYTHING at the track, to write them and let them know.
They did not give out an address or I would post it here & already emailed about lack of SAFER Barrier. A million dollar shower house is nice but . . .
oh, and some lady Reporter called in earlier to say this morning about 8 AM, she saw a man walking from said Shower house, in his underwear!.....just strolling along, taking his time inside the infield back to his camper!? He appeared to be about 70 but she was still stunned...as I would be.
Bruton's hat should say "traffic" instead of security.
ReplyDeleteI had to snicker when I saw that Mikey's tribute car to his doofus brother didn't make the race. But they sure let us know all about it on RaceDay, didn't they?
ReplyDeleteAnd I agree, it's gotta be exciting for all those fans in Kentucky. After all the years of lawsuits and highs and lows, they finally have their Cup race. Good for them.
the people in atlanta should be complaining as they lost a race so kentucky could get this one. But they cant even sell out Labor Day race.
ReplyDeletewhats next on BS radar so las vegas gets a second date? Loudon one race? Atlanta gone, finally purchase Pocono and get two dates.
Yep, just the beginning of the New World Order.
ReplyDeleteThis season, I have watched very little of Raceday.
ReplyDeleteEach time I tune in I see a chef, Speed Center, Rutledge, or commercials and I just move along.
Wishing everyone a great race tonight! :)
JD, the beginning? I thought it began when they scavenged Wilkesboro's dates.
ReplyDelete5:30 News on WLW radio how bad is the traffic to SPARTA? I 71 is backed up 18 miles!!!!!
ReplyDeleteDid they mention THAT on "Race Day"??
wow, have they ever delayed start of a race due to traffic?
Sophia, as of an hour ago Denny Hamlin was stuck in traffic. He's tweeting from the car, if you're into that sort of thing.
ReplyDeleteOk Denny Hamblin is stuck in the traffic. That makes me nervous.
ReplyDeleteI don't tweet celebs. Unless local guys who RESPOND to folks :) Some Cincy guys really get twitter & believe in following some of us back & send fun DMs.
But if not all drivers are at the track, I need to check out a helicopter report I just heard.
Many fans will NOT make the first part of the race.
ReplyDeleteDoes this happen a lot at new or first time tracks? It's 18 miles NORTH & SOUTH
Is this being mentioned on RaceDay? I miss Kyle Petty & guess I'll have to turn in since the local NASCAR radio talk stopped.
Traffic update: 5:52pm
ReplyDeleteCINCINNATI -- As expected, traffic heading toward the Kentucky Speedway has become a bit of a nightmare.
Heading south on Interstate 71, traffic is moving at about 10 miles per hour after the split. That's about 18 miles to the Speedway. Traffic was also backing up onto Interstate 71/75 before the split.
Drivers trying to avoid the traffic on U.S. 42 are finding their strategy is not paying off. WLWT's Terry Daniels, who is headed to the Speedway, reported that he has traveled only one mile in 40 minutes.
There are no traffic accidents reported on any of the paths leading into the Speedway, just a lot of cars.
About 130,000 people are expected to attend the Speedway's first-ever Sprint Cup race, which is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m., regardless of whether all the fans get there on time.
