In-Progress: Monday "NASCAR Now" On ESPN2

The big one-hour Monday edition of NASCAR Now rolls out at 5:30PM Eastern Time on ESPN2. This show has been completely re-vamped for 2008, and now features a roundtable style discussion group focusing on the topics of the race weekend.

The program is hosted by Allen Bestwick, and this week will feature Ray Evernham stopping by ESPN for a visit. Evernham is the newest member of the NASCAR on ESPN crew, and fits-in well with Bestwick.

ESPN has tried to integrate all the NASCAR announcers into one big team, and this program usually features a good percentage of the on-air talent. The change from last season has been amazing.

There will be a review up later, but this post will serve to host your reactions to the program in-progress. We have tried to offer these posts so that viewers can log their opinions without having to wait for a later story on this site.

To add your comment, just click on the COMMENTS button below and follow the simple instructions. The rules for posting are on the right side of the main page. Thanks again for taking the time to stop by.

Excellent points of view about extraneous people in a pit box. Ray and Mike gave both sides of the story.

Like the discussion about the oil tank cover and the guys asking questions of each other. Would have liked to hear a little more from Ray but that might have made it to long of a discussion.

Didn't somebody mention at the opening or in a voice over at the beginningof the show, the NASCAR camera guy did NOT have on the proper clothing??

Can somebody verify that? I thought ALL had to wear firesuits in the PIT ROAD area. Maybe some sweet, dear person with a DVR can check that....but I was just curious.

Nice to see LIVE conversation and the boys having FUN!

Good for AB clarifying that it was NOT their competitions (Fox) camera in Carl's pit box

sophia, as far as I know, the only persons required to wear a firesuit are those that go over the wall. You notice that crew chiefs do not wear them.

The strange camera guy had the word "group" on the back of his vest. I'm wondering if that was NASCAR Media Group?

Newracefan said...

Sophia they were referring to the guy with the camera did not have a "team uniform" on so he was NOT part of the pit crew. If it had been another pit crew member too bad and the penalty would have stood. It was a sort of state the obvious comment. Firesuit are required for any one going over the wall he was not over the wall just big time in the way.

Interesting show, as it was after Daytona. I wonder if there is a reason for this line up of commentators versus the post Daytona crew? I believe that the discussion was smoother when Rusty and Brad were part of the panel.

The clip of Michael Waltrip's comments after Jeff Gordon's crash was interesting. After seeing that, I am interested in seeing what he has to say on "Inside Michael Waltrip Racing".

Yes it was a NASCAR media camera man (formerly Nascar Images) JD might be about to get the follow up to this. I'm thinking someone got in trouble.

I have been able to shoot at TMS for NASCAR and Indy Cars, and all media shooting the race are issued vests. Different colors for different levels of access.
You are not required to wear firesuits.

Newracefan said...

Thanks Boyd, I guess that means that the TV pit reporters do not need to wear those silly firesuits they all seem to wear on ESPN and TNT

Boris not available for Infinion testing for David Reutimann. You think Jack told him not to help the Toyota guys cause he has helped just about everyone else.

Excellent show. JD you are right TWIN is going to have their hands full. Hopefully they can step up but with no Schrader this week I have concerns

An excellent show! I had a wonderful time just listening to the guys talk.

Good wrap of the weekend and a good look forward to Atlanta.

Light years ahead of last year's disasters.

Way to go. :-)

There's a very good rapport between Allen Bestwick, Ray Evernham, Boris Said, and Mike Massaro. They reply to each other's questions and comments and Bestwick trusts them enough not to put a strict leash on them. I like this combination.

Big ups to Boris for explaining camber with a gesture. I think there should be more of this. He adds a lot to any program he's on.

thanks for the feedback everybody. I also thought since the reporters wore the firesuits EVERYBODY had to....Glad I asked!

It was a good show to me but agree the one with Rusty and Brad seemed more fun but I think these guys had a good time, too.

Now to compared against the "sorry I already am missing Kenny TWIN show"

still I LOVE THESE MONDAY editions of NASCAR.

AB is great on here. :)

I wish they would RECONSIDER a Sunday night show. SPEED has NOTHING on tv about racing after WINDTUNNEL. However I was awake late last night for the 2AM repeat of SPEED REPORT and IT was 'updated' with current CUP race results...I fell asleep so don't know if they address the 99 inspection issue or what.

That is cool SPEED REPORT does two additions on Sunday night...I did not know they did that.

Still from 10pm EST nothing on tv about NASCAR except for those with ESPN NEWS..and of course, those without SPEED would probably loved Sun PM NN

The show just seems more LEGIT with AB hosting, too...no offense to the other hosts. :-)

New wrap-up column is posted on this show. Great comments.

The NASCAR Media Group cameramen do not wear firesuits. That was purely an accident. Glad that NASCAR made the right call.

If you notice, the Fox pit reporters do not wear fire suits either.

Another great show...TWIN needs to get it together and also pay the light bill...good grief!

Yes you are right about the FOX reporters now that I think about it..duh.

I wonder why the ESPN reporters wear the firesuits then, if not mandatory?

re: Light bill on TWIN. NOTHING could save that show now. Lighting is the LEASE of their worries. :(
