In-Progress at Milwaukee: Nationwide Series on ESPN2

Dale Jarrett has not yet returned to the ESPN racing line-up, so once again the Nationwide Series race on ESPN2 will feature Rusty Wallace as the Lead Analyst.

Tonight from the Milwaukee Mile, it will be Wallace leading-off the program when he joins Allen Bestwick and Brad Daugherty in the Infield Pit Studio for the NASCAR Countdown pre-race show at 8PM Eastern Time.

Look for the pre-race program to address a lot of issues including the Joey Logano situation at Gibbs Racing and the rumors that he will be in a Cup car for 2009. Daugherty has to comment on the recent developments in the Grant lawsuit and the SI.com interview that the former NASCAR official gave this week. Why Grant did not choose to speak to Daugherty is certainly an interesting issue.

Once underway, Jerry Punch will call the action with Wallace and Andy Petree in the booth. Down on pit road will be Dave Burns, Mike Massaro and Shannon Spake. Tim Brewer will be on-scene in the Tech Center for updates.

This is a grinding, flat track with tough action and usually some upset tempers. With only a handful of Sprint Cup drivers doing double-duty, the regulars of the Nationwide Series should get an opportunity to shine.

They just said on qualifying coverage that the pre-race show may start as much as 15 minutes earlier than originally planned. In other words, the pre-race show will be coming on around 7:45p.m. Eastern. Evidently, the NHRA qualifying show is going to be shortened.

Sadly, one of the NHRA drivers was killed during qualifying today. So that must be why the Milwaukee pre-race show is coming on earlier than originally planned. Again, they were saying Milwaukee pre-race coverage may start as early as 7:45p.m. Eastern.

We had a bad storm come through here a couple of hours ago and lost our satellite signal for a bit but now it's ok. Looks like nice weather in Milwaukee and am certainly happy to see BK get the pole. Grand Marshall, Randy Thompson, looks just like my husband well a skinny husband. Go get 'em.

Hadn't realized this until Jerry did the promo - next week at New Hampshire the Nationwide series is broadcast over-the-air on ABC and the Sprint Cup race is on TNT on cable. Something just seems odd about that.

If I remember the schedule correctly ... ABC will carry the Watkins Glen Nationwide race and ESPN will cover the Sprint Cup race the next day. Agree with you ... kind of strange.

There is nothing strange about that. In this day and age, most people have access to both ABC and ESPN. The reasoning that ABC is a 'higher' network if you will, than ESPN, just doesn't fly anymore.

Sure would be a more enjoyable race if Rick & Phil were calling this race.

I agree with anon at 9:43 that this race would be more enjoyable with Allen & Parsons, although I think Rusty is better this year. And Tim seems to be giving us good info from the tech center - enjoyed the brake segment.

That was a really cool camera shot panning down from the Scott Wimmer fan club over to his car on the track.

I still hate having an in race reporter.
Leave them alone.

JP is having issues pronouncing Colin Braun's name I've heard him stumble over his first and last name!

AMS fan said...

ESPN camera's have had good shots of the cup drivers getting into the back of the Nationwide drivers.
I agree Vicky, JP does have trouble. A lot of people have fun at Larry Mac's use of the English language, but he has fun with it.
JP seems to try to be perfect, which we are not.
JP just doesn't sound like he is having fun.

vicky d,
Same thing with Brad Kes-lowski. It bugs me every time I hear JP mispronounce his name.

Vicky D said...

Alex, I heard BK on Windtunnel a couple of weeks ago mentioning how he wanted his last name pronounced and he wants it like you spelled it.

alex said...

Oh, I had assumed it was pronounced as it's spelled. Thanks for clearing that up.

I'm drinking a shot of Crown everytime somebody references the phrase "Cautions Breed Cautions." Man, I'm buzzed now.

Vicky D said...

But JP pronounced Blickensderfer (sp?) right!

They got the finish right. Showed many cars coming across the line.

Thanks for showing more finish line but please PLEASE go back to the drop down grid.

Those heads SLIDING into place and then disappearing and then the next batch sliding into place on the crawl...hard to read.

Is it TNT that's doing the drop down grid? My brain is tired. I lOVE the drop down.

Didn't catch much of tonights race..distracted on the phone but glad to see some positive comments.

Hey, Carl did not do the back flip? Said he is upset he hit Clint...hmmm. Clint wasn't too happy. Good for Carl for not doing the back flip...fans want it....but hey, it loses something if he does the flip and IS NOT IN THE MOOD...good for him for not doing it.

P.S. For those with SPEED, NASCAR Performance is on and then Trading Paint EST time..11.30 and midnight.

Gymmie said...

He didn't do it because of what happened with Clint and out of respect for Scott and his family :(

But congratulations to Cousin Carl and I know he could have won with PK as well. But if Drew makes him happy I'll be happy for him.

SophiaZ123 said...

Thanks Gymmie for explaining he didn't do the flip out of respect for Scott's family...I was feeding my cats a snack and missed that part.

Richard in N.C. said...

On MRN what I understood Carl E. to say was that he did not think it would be right to do the back flip in light of Scott Kalitta's passing.

Geez, do you actually WATCH the races?

You spend more time telling us about your household activities than racing.
