In-Progress At Nashville: Craftsman Truck Race (7PM SPEED)

A smaller than normal field of only 34 trucks will take the green flag on Saturday night at Nashville Speedway on SPEED.

Rick Allen and Phil Parsons will handle the action from the booth with Adam Alexander and Ray Dunlap reporting from pit road. Update: Michael Waltrip is also along for the race tonight.

Things get underway at 7PM with The Set-Up pre-race show hosted by Krista Voda. This post will serve to host your comments about this program on SPEED.

Krista's has had more fun and energy in the first 7 minutes of the NCTS Set-up than Jerry Punch showed in today's entire NNS race!

Werd anon Werd! She's great! And always having fun :)

Haha agreed.. gotta love Krista. She's awesome.

Kristas energy is higher than Docs as the winner approached the finish line.

Krista's best place would be the Hollywood Hotel. Did I say that?

Amen JD, I've said it before she would be fantastic, now we just have to figure out who can take over her pit reporting duties. Suggestions anyone?

What an awful anthem. Sounded like a dirge.

NRF, how about Jerry Punch? I've never heard him as a pit reporter, but I hear he's pretty darn good at it.

okay, Mikey being there ruined it for me. Sorry JD, I'm gonna listen to MRN on line. I've had all I can stomach of a bad racecast today.

Mikey's why I started watching trucks so to each his own.

3 wide in the first turn of the first lap is why I stayed.

Mikey is like certain veggies. Either you like him or you don't. No middle ground with the big man.

Daly Planet Editor said...

Not too much to say about this one other than it is always fun to watch the Trucks on SPEED.

I think we are all just worn out from the NW race. It's amazing how much easier it is to understand what is going on on the track when the PXP guy gets it. Espcially helpful when there is no timing/scoring on the web for the trucks

If nothing else, Mikey does add excitement up in the booth. At least his voice goes up an octave or two. I like him in the booth.

Off topic (sorry JD) but since I'm talking about Mikey, watch the TWIN clip on Nascar.com.

Speed is showing ALOT of racing thru the field for spots-good job!
Great analogy about Mikey JD-I can't handle lima beans either! :)

Back during the Prelude to the Dream broadcast, Mike Joy sorta accidentally said something to the effect of, "Maybe they'll throw a caution for phantom debris, to bunch up the field like in NASCAR."

There was a long pause after that.

But today's truck race demonstrates that he was exactly right. Every time Bodine gets a big enough lead, the officials find some debris on the track.

It used to bother me, but since Joy essentially admitted that's why they do it, I just laugh now.

I will admit that Nascar at times, will affect the races, but anyone who thinks they can mandate who wins is nuts! JMO, of course.
I really like the split screen Speed uses for pit stops! The 4 letter network needs to adopt that, imo.

See, I watch trucks BECAUSE of Michael. Never bothered before he was calling the races.

Good job, JB. Two good guys now won today.

Another great job by Speed, nothing else to say

I can handle Mikey on TWIN-it's always been "his" show from the time I started watching it in it's various names. But he's just to "look at me" at the truck races & no one can rein him in. Like JD said, to each their own.
Great, JB won!!! A local guy for me!

Wow two great winners today.. I couldn't be happier.

you know why there are so few posts during the truck race? it's not b/c almost no one is watching: trucks have a big audience.
it's b/c speed does such a consistently solid job that it's a joy to watch! there's no stupid tricks, no follow the leader camera coverage, good recaps of the action ad "thru the field" reports, great pit coverage.
all in all, a professional job done by folks who know the sport and the competitors and have pride in what they do.
thanks to everyone involved in bringing us the truck races each week: would that your colleagues could do the same in the "premier" series.

Good points red. Truck racing reminds me of Cup back in the 90s when no one was watching yet. Cup/NW only got gimmicky with the big TV deal of 2000 or 01.

If the suits would only realize this. We just want to see a good race and what's happening with every driver. A sentence or two about the odd wads (my pet name for anyone out of the top 35) would be nice. They have fans too.

BTW, the ticker for the ARCA race is awesome. These old lady eyes could read it from across the room.

Recorded the race. Another good broadcast from SPEED. Watched it overnight. Congrats to J.Benson. Well deserved, a gentleman of the sport

How refreshing to watch a race where the commentators actually talked about the drivers and their trucks! The best part is that they didn't obsess over the front two drivers the whole danged time.

What a concept! Focus on other drivers!
